Beautiful location and nice surroundings.
Beautiful in every way and very pet friendly. Food top quality lovely walks.
Nothing it was all first class.
Nice grounds. Needs better weeding though.
Lodge room was small. Breakfast was poor- cheap bread. Treated like second class by having a dog.
Lovely building in quiet location. Good breakfast and comfortable bed.
Some noise from external equipment outside of the room which turned on and off during the night. The room was a little too warm and window opening was limited by the noise.
Good price nice clean rooms great food, not cheap though but you pay for quality
Car park has wood between grass And tarmac slipped over this morning as wood was wet moss and was like ice that needs addressing
Lovely outside space Staff were friendly and helpful
It was really dog friendly with lovely gardens
I met 3 friends for lunch there. We all had sandwiches, but the bread was stale. Didn’t have the heart to complain as everything else was lovely, so just ate it. Not a lot of choice on the tea tray in room. No sweeteners or decaf options, just basic
Al staff were very friendly .
Lovely house & grounds, nice room, comfy bed, lovely bathroom Welcoming staff
We were upgraded to a lovely big room in the annex and although we were told there was a pedestrian pathway going past, we didn't appreciate we couldn't leave the curtains open at all, or we were in full view of the many daily walkers.
Lovely large room with comfy bed and great decor. Rituals bath products an added bonus. Staff friendly and helpful. Gorgeous building set in peaceful grounds. Plenty of parking
All good
Lovely property and grounds with plenty of parking. The staff were helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
Beautiful setting, comfortable beds, dog friendly. The main building has retained most of its original features and the grounds are kept in perfect condition
The room was different than in the photos, but was still pleasant. Simple but modern
Lovely place, lovely staff
The staff were friendly and helpful, we had a pleasant recently decorated room which was very clean, free parking and an excellent breakfast. The hotel is in a quiet location with woodland walks nearby. The restaurant food was very good and reasonably priced.
Some of the corridors and staircases could do with some upgrading, eg, fresh paint, new carpets, etc. I think our room (16) was above the kitchen, and we could hear loud voices under our room at times
Very good location
The complimentary biscuits had been opened and there was only one packet between 2 ppl.

Beautiful hotel with lovely staff. Comfortable bed massive suite . Lots of parking , very relaxed vibe . Amazing cocktails, very strong ! The bar and lounge area is really nice and relaxed.
Pillows were too firm and uncomfortable . The shower temperature handle came off in my hand , but I managed to get it back on. The bottom of the toilet was stained, I assume with limescale The menu has changed and the food felt less superior from previous visits, although by no means bad , just a comparison to other times we dined there. I chose from the bar menu and had a steak and ale pie , which unfortunately has less steak and more gristle inside. Despite this it was very good overall, these are not major issues. Our suite was lovely , but very grey because of the style, so could benefit from some flowers or greenery to complement it. We first stayed in the same suite 4 years ago, so compared to that day it probably needs a tiny refresh . But overall it's a great place.
The surrounding countryside! The classy, traditional feel of the hotel.
When I arrived, there were used, crumpled towls hanging in the wardrobe. Once the room.was not made up although I had put the sign on the door. When I booked the booking supposedly got timed out. I had to rebook for 60€ more and there was no breakfast included. I suspect this was surge pricing. The first payment actually LEFT my account and was refunded the next day.
Erg vriendelijke mensen, uitstekend ontbijt, ruime kamer, fraai uitzicht
We only stayed for one night. The room (in the main building) was fabulous.
Chambre, SdB et l'hôtel en général, tout était comme décrit. Parfait. Bon rapport qualité/prix.
RAS.
Lovely old period building but with lovely comfortable modern rooms and facilities. Lovely breakfast.
Nothing - all good
Great location Delux double was a lovely room
Duvet had dirty stains all over it Staff at breakfast were unfriendly, made us feel uncomfortable, no manners despite us being cheery and didnt explain how breakfast worked and we had to go looking for toast and condiments. They were very snooty. Training issue and need to just be nice!
Comfortable friendly hotel

Lovely veranda for drinks overlooking the garden. Good breakfast. Good value. Big choice of places to eat in the vicinity.
Not a big problem but we booked a Lodge Room - described as quieter and popular with business people - but we were put in the main house. When we queried this, we were told the Losge Rooms were for those with dogs. Room was fine but a bit noisy...
Friendly and convenient. Clean and well equipped. Staff were welcoming on arrival. Room was ideal.
It was easy to check in.
The black out blinds in the out-house didn't close fully, which annoyingly let the sunlight in every morning and disrupted my sleep. The window was also very dirty. Security wise, there wasn't a safe to keep your items. The sink wasn't proportionate to the size of the bathroom. I had to be very strategic with how used it. Frustratingly, there are no USB sockets or anything of the type in the room. I hadn't brought a conversion plug, but luckily I brought my laptop with me, so I was able to charge my phone that way. It's very inexpensive to fit at least of those plug/USB sockets in each room.
It felt like a real privilege to stay here. I'd definitely return. Even the catering team did their best to help with a complex dietary request. Thank you!
Nothing to not like.
Nice hotel . Nothing really to complain about
It was nice nothing more .
Really big room, nicely decorated, comfy bed, all amenities we needed

Lovely setting, comfortable room , good value, good breakfast and dinner options
Not property fault but noisy both nights.
The TV In the room ( no 37) didn’t work properly with poor/ no signal it kep turning off to a messaging service This is not acceptable and needs to be addressed asap
Staff were amazing. Especially Tracy on reception
Breakfast was poor
Manor house feels great, all was kept in a traditional format and the whole hotel feels very calm and settled. They do though have events, often weddings which might generate some noise coming from their event location. All in all a really great place in the middle of nowhere. The gym is rather complete for a small hotel like that.
Only thing I did not like was the green light in the ceiling near the room door indicating the emergency exit - it really bathes the room in a bit of a green sheen at night. It had traces of other travellers glueing over it - something we had to do as well. :D
Lovely setting, we were able to sit outside on the patio after a very tiring day. Rooms very clean, bed very comfortable and great shower. Staff really pleasant, breakfast & bar food excellent.
One minor thing, could maybe do with lighting the signage as quite difficult to find at night in a very dark road.
The staff were lovely and all very polite. The hotel was very nice and the grounds lovely. The evening food was very good.
The breakfast was a little poor, the first morning we had the cooked breakfast it was ok, not anything special. Toast was limited to one piece each. The following morning I decided to have the pancakes, these were awful they were thin pancakes and had clearly been microwaved too long as they were hard, I then had avocado on toast, eggs really under cooked and again just one slice. Yes there is a cold section of cereals, juice and yogurts. The price £17.50. Not cheap. So sadly the breakfast let it down, which was a surprise especially as the evening meals were great!
The hotel was beautiful and the staff were lovely too. Our room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. We were there for a friend's wedding and it couldn't have been any better.
There wasn't anything I didn't like about the hotel
Lovely place, clean, safe, pretty, great staff.
The fact I had to book this as my previous accommodation was so terrible!
Nice enough. Have stayed before as local to a site I visit regularly. Welcoming staff. Good breakfast.
Juts a little tired in some areas but not bad at all.
Lovely location.
The environment the bed the room the shower
Nothing much to dislike really....though you need a car
Nice building, gym was ok.
Room a little small, nowhere to put suitcase without it being in the way. Receptionist wasn’t the friendliest
Beautiful hotel in a lovely quiet location. Food was amazing, cocktails even better. Room had a lovely view, comfortable bed, lovely high ceilings. Bar, restaurant and courtyard were all great. The staff were all very polite and welcoming, will definitely be going back. Highly recommend trying the desserts and The Bramble cocktail.
There was no negatives about the property.
Check-in was efficient and we had access to our rooms early, which was really helpful, as travelling with two elderly parents and it was another very hot day ! Lovely grounds and setting amongst tall trees and kept gardens. Both rooms were of average size, very clean and of high standard. Fan in the twin room (No 30) across courtyard, a real bonus, as no air conditioning. Breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice. Staff very helpful and attentive. Designated car space as blue badge holder was much appreciated.
There were wedding celebration events on both the Friday & Saturday of our 2 night stay, so it was very busy at times with varying levels of noise, including 'party revellers' leaving or heading to their rooms in the early hours and confetti etc on the patio. The staff did a fantastic job trying to keep areas clean and tidy ! The breakfast room acoustics were poor, due to low ceiling. It was very noisy , especially as there were a couple of large tables of wedding guests on both days. There was an option to have breakfast out on the patio. So be prepared for wedding parties if you visit at weekends, especially during the summer months.
Attractive old building
I liked the location and restaurant bar area. From my window I saw the woods so it was a nice secluded view. The room was plain but comfortable. Im not sure the room itself was worth the price. I’m sure it must be a once off but my room smelled like garlic to the extent I needed to open both the bedroom and bathroom window to try to create a draft.

Beautiful buildings. Lovely breakfast.

What a beautiful hotel tastefully decorated with excellent finishing touches. Well appointed rooms with high end finishes. Very friendly staff, Rachel was very welcoming at reception and the grounds are absolutely stunning. The the lighting at night surrounding the trees is really pretty where you can sit outside and enjoy the evening air. We had breakfast on Sunday which superb with quality food. Highly recommend. Ideal wedding venue or other celebration 🍾 For very hot summers please note: rooms dont have air-conditioning but fans are provided in every room. I presume this is because it is a listed period property, Wonderful hotel so dont let this put you off.
Lovely hotel, location was amazing, Rachel on reception was absolutely brilliant. Very clean and a wonderfully well kept hotel.
The staff were very helpful, and friendly especially the barman (the guy from Portugal) loved the banter and the cocktails he made up for us to the point I had 6 😂
The hotel rooms were extremely hot. No air con in the rooms just a mini fan which didn’t help at all. At around 1:5am the whole hotel was woken by the fire alarm (luckily false alarm) seems someone had maybe been smoking in their room
Beautiful location. Fascinating building
Our room was above the kitchen and staff quite noisy coming and going
Lovely breakfast and main house facilities
Didn't realise the room we booked had a bath rather than a shower - difficult for husband with bad knees. However, room very pleasant indeed.
The hotel was beautiful, my room was delightful, nice big bathroom, very comfy bed. I had a balcony which was a bonus! The breakfast was very good. I've day I had the cooked breakfast and there were interesting choices available like smashed avocado on toast, as well as the usual cooked breakfast options. Another day I just had continental, and it was very reasonable and a good choice.
No complaints, except maybe my room would have been small to share, but I was alone and it was perfect.
Beautiful hotel! Friendly staff and gorgeous setting.
Good location and generally nice property
No aircon - rooms too hot
Beautiful location
Nothing
This is a very ‘genteel’ hotel, with a degree of class. The grounds are great, even with the very dry weather. We enjoyed our night there.
It maybe needs updating.
We held our Daughters wedding here, in January. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. All of the Hotels facilities were 10/10 - with the staff being totally brilliant at all times. The catering and service was fine, as were the rooms used for the ceremony and subsequent Disco. Also plenty of parking available around the Hotel. A big thank you to the staff, who ensured that the day ran smoothly - faultless !
Location
I had a hot smallish room tucked up in the eves for 6 nights, would have preferred a nicer room for such a long stay.
Nice rooms
Everything was great, we love Gorse Hill and this was our 4th stay. The hotel staff are always so helpful and welcoming the rooms/hotel/grounds always clean and tidy.
The only issue was slow service at breakfast. However this was due to the number of people who attended a wedding the same day as we had booked. There isn't much that the staff/hotel could have done. We have stayed at Gorse Hill before so we know service is usually execllent.
I recently stayed at the Gorse Hill Hotel in Woking, Surrey, for two nights as part of a last-minute booking using a Virgin Experience Days voucher, and I'm really glad I decided to book. The hotel is easy to reach. It's just a 25 minute train journey from London Waterloo to Woking Station, and from there it's only around a 15 minute taxi or car ride to the hotel. On arrival at the hotel you're welcomed by a beautiful country estate surrounded by greenery, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. There's also plenty of free parking available if you're travelling by car. The guest rooms are located away from the main reception area in a separate building, making rooms wonderfully quiet. I stayed in Room 55 on the first floor. One thing to note is that there isn't a lift, so if you're travelling with heavy luggage or have mobility concerns, this is worth keeping in mind. Whilst rooms don't contain a fridge or microwave all the other amenities were fine. My room contained a comfortable double bed, desk, tv with freeview channels and a generously sized wardrobe and in room coffee machine and complimentary water, all of which made my stay comfy however, a few cobwebs around my bedroom windows and in communal areas need a good clean and a steam iron which would have made my stay top tier. One of the highlights of my stay was definitely the staff. Everyone was warm, welcoming and genuinely helpful. The general manager Harry made sure I had everything I needed on arrival and gave me a fantastic first impression of the hotel. Leah ( a waitress who worked in the restaurant) was attentive throughout my meal and regularly checked that everything met my expectations and Holly, who was a general all rounder and worked behind the bar, was equally wonderful and couldn't do enough to help. The majority of the team made me feel genuinely looked after. The only slight disappointment came from one restaurant manager ( an older man ) , who seemed to lack attention to detail and seemed quite miserable. He randomly moved my ketchup tub from my table without asking and accidentally spilled water across my table whilst pouring it, and didn't wipe it up. Thankfully this was a minor incident that was far outweighed by the excellent service from everyone else. The hotel has two main areas that serve food - the bar area and the restaurant, both of which are spacious. Breakfast is served from 6:30am to 9:30am on weekdays and from 8:00am to 10:30am at weekends. There's a good continental selection with cereals, fruit, toast and preserves, and juices, tea and coffee while a cooked breakfast is available for £17. on my furdt day I chose the vegetarian breakfast which I sat and ate outdoors within the hotels beautiful patio area which has ample seating space and greenery.Unfortunately, the vegetarian sausage wasn't to my taste so another variety of veggie sausage would be perfect. Also, the mushrooms tasted as though they had come from a tin which was slightly disappointing but on my second fay I went for thr pancake stack which I could not fault. It was delicious. Dinner impressed me.There are two menus, the bar menu and the restaurant menu, both of which have a great selection of items to choose from. I enjoyed a lovely mushroom soup, an expertly cooked rump steak served with beautifully crispy fries, seasonal vegetables and a divine apple crumble and ice cream. Thanks to the generous portion sizes I was left ready to burst. During my visit, the hotel was hosting a wedding, and all of the guests appeared to be having a wonderful time, which really added to the welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're planning a solo escape, a romantic break, a family holiday or a weekend away with the children, this hotel is a lovely choice. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Gorses Hill Hotel. Its peaceful countryside setting, convenient location close to London, friendly staff and comfortable accommodation make it somewhere I would happily recommend and would certainly consider visiting again
Booked this hotel through booking .com. Booked 2 rooms, requested 1 double bed and 2 single beds. I was given 2 rooms both with double beds and one room had a cot/single bed put in it at an additional charge. I did not request this nor did I pay for this. The receptionist who said he was the supervisor Ghouri, was arrogant in his manner and assumed that as my granddaughter was 17 yrs, she would not share a bed with me therefore at an extra cost, without asking me, he put an additional bed in my room. I was able to sort this out with Ian Hill the Manager who was very helpful and apologetic. As a result of the fact that Ghouri failed to apologise, I have cancelled my forthcoming visit in September, when I was due to stay at the hotel for 2 nights as my friend is getting married there. Staff training required.
Stayed before about 14 years ago An ideal location for us for the evening.
It was so hot and no A/C but had the benefit of a very large window.
Very nice House and Garden
Unfortunately not so easy to find, even people living close to (walking their dog) could not tell. Neither the guy at nearby Coop supermarket, so we had to phone to be guided to the place.
Room 22 was good-sized. Everything was clean. Breakfast was not eaten.
It was very hot, and it took an extra ventilator to cool the room down in the evening. It would have been useful if the room had been aired early in the morning and then the curtains closed.
Location
Breakfast timings they finish at 9.30am
The hotel downstairs is beautiful. The gardens are lovely too. We attended a wedding and we could not fault the hotel or on this account.
When I booked the room for my sister and husband, I was offered an upgrade. The room they were given was not an upgraded room. It was much smaller than those of others in our party, with a small bathroom. It was not as high standard as I was expecting from your photographs. What was most disappointing though was the breakfast. When we came to breakfast at 9am, there was no juice, no fruit salad, limited frozen berries, na pastries. I pointed this out to a waitress and she said they would refill the buffet when they get a chance. After a while, they did refill the juices and the pastries, not the fruit salad or berries. We were never offered any toast at breakfast and when we asked for it, it eventually came when we finished all our food. My sister and some other members of our party never got offered toast either. I find that really baffling. At the price you pay to stay at the hotel, you would expect a lovely choice of breakfast, and certainly toast would part of it. I also did not feel that the staff were keen to help; I did not feel at ease when asking; it felt Iike I was causing inconvenience.
Beautifully decorated and lively grounds
Nothing at all
Location
No air conditioning, the first room we were given looked over the garden but was very hot, ok unusual weather but we asked to change. The second room overlooked the kitchen waste bin area. It was equally hot. We both had a terrible nights sleep even with the fan provided.
beautiful grounds and hotel
Location
No fans and no air conditioning during a heatwave. Breakfast was bog standard and basic.
Lovely well kept property
Small bedroom and Bed
Food in the restaurant was superb. Lovely decor and location.
Reception staff could have been a bit more responsive! No aircon in the room and the fan wasn’t the best, so very warm and stuffy in the attic room. In the bathroom you couldn’t stand up and have a shower due to the sloping ceiling. Considering I am 5,2” I struggled !
Not a great deal
Rude staff not clean and over priced
The hotel on paper looked nice.
When you are spending £175 per night in a 4 star hotel you would normally expect air conditioning. We now know how a turkey feels when in the oven. House keeping even did not have the sense to pull the blinds to shade the room. Even the cold water was running hot. We had a room on the third floor which was probably the hotest place to be. We were staying with friends and they had all sorts of issues with their room including a toilet that did not flush. A very disappointing stay..
Quiet and clean
No fridge in the room in the middle of a heat wave Restaurant minimum staff not smiling
location, good breakfast.good parking
we were given a disabled room!!No net curtain people passing by the window. No milk.Small room, No shelves no hooks in bathroom. Dirty hand rails in bathroom. No where to put your case except on the floor. No tissues.
Classic, authentic
Old building, no AC
We stayed for 1 night for our wedding anniversary. The hotel and grounds are fantastic and staff are very attentive. The food (dinner & breakfast) were both very nice. We stayed in room 43, a double deluxe. The room & bathroom were a nice size and clean, the bed was comfortable too. The reason we only gave a 3 is we had a really bad night's sleep due to a loud humming noise, we had the night manager up to the room to listen but he didn't know what it could be. Shame really as otherwise it would have been a great stay.
Location was ideal. Good value
The room was next to a fire door. Slight noise as people came through it, but only infrequent

No air con, no fridge, no safe. Room up under eaves and very hot. Odd shaped room with small window
Mooie kamer in prachtige locatie .Zeer goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding
No chair in my room , one could only sit on the bed!
Great traditional & atmospheric hotel. With very interesting history & attractive gardens/grounds. Exceptionally friendly helpful staff. A peaceful atmosphere.
I liked everything
Very comfortable and tranquil hotel. Excellent cuisine.
.
Room was not as expected. Breakfast, if different options may have taken breakfast. Overall too pricey for food.
Receptionist was rude. Ghouiri - his manner was unacceptable. Although not rude on purpose, his abruptness left a lot to be desired.
Very lovely room and shower and great location away from main house so very quite
Was very warm day and no air con but that was situational another day not a problem
The property was stately and pretty, looked attractive.
Apparently, due to /grade 2 listing, there is no air conditioning… As an older person, the small bedrooms, being offered only a (just one ) fan, was not even close to offering comfort from heat, certainly not for me! I appealed for help, and the kindness of one member on reception saw me moved to a room with air from windows.. it saved me… I knew several others staying, as we were a party group, the rooms they were in were unbearable, …. UNBEARABLE! I was disappointed by lack of full cleanliness, spiders n webs in the shower, dirt on the windowsill, which blew in apon opening, indeed the windows obviously not been opened to clean! Very scruffy out the back areas , rubbish and broken items.. The gardens not as attended as they should have been… All this being taken into account against the enormous cost… As a world wide traveller , this is not up to the standard for the price! Definitely not! Note the windowsill photos were after I cleaned the worst off
The location is great. it is blessed with a country feel, less than 2.5 miles to the train station and town
The accommodation was not clean. We were housed in the 'overflow' lodge, which has really steep stairs if you are on the first floor. The room has no AC, it had no fan or real means of airflow. The small windows opened onto the main road. There was one v small bottle of water between two. One poor quality pack of biscuits. The bath had two large chips in it, both were rusty. The screen for the over-bath shower had mould on it. The carpet was not well cleaned. The bed was, however, comfortable (but so is the Premier Inn). The staff at breakfast were miserable. The food was cold when served (the plates were hot). The smashed avocado was a smear on a piece of untoasted, dubious bread, supposedly sourdough. One poached egg was overcooked, the other had snotty white to it. For some reason, the chilli element was missing and diced cucumber, red onion and tomato was liberally applied to the plate. The coffee was poor filter coffee. The fruit was of poor quality and had no berries, just a melon with a little pineapple.
Beautiful location and surroundings, comfortable well equipped bedroom and spacious bathroom, with amazing views of the grounds. Easy car parking. Booked as a last minute overnight stay visiting friends and family in the area. We were grateful for the slightly later complimentary check out.
Can't think of anything really. Just some bottles of drinking water in the room would have been good, especially given the heatwave!
A very professional and well run hotel. The room was a good size and very clean.
The room was super hot. I mentioned about leaving windows open before guests arrive to let some air in because its exceptionally difficult to cool it down. i understand and can accept the reasons (bugs, no known arrival time etc). Also, and this is not technically about the hotel, but the dinner was not great. My friend said that hes eaten there before and its been a lot better he wondered whether the event (wedding) was to blame and the main chef(s) were working there.
