Location.
Room was dark so needs better lighting. Bathroom layout was a trip hazard i.e. the step for the shower.
Bien situé. Grande chambre.
La ventilation dans les chambres est bruyante et ne peut pas être arrêtée.
Unique, charming, close to most everything a tourist wants to see/do. The bed & bedding were wonderful.
My timing of being there was off, so no restaurant/bar open on the premises.
Clean heritage building. ... close to all downtown activities
Nice room and bathroom.
Breakfast: lots of sugary food! No natural Joghurts. Everything wrapped in plastic! Lots! of garbage producing, eg no reusable/washable cups and cutlery. All seats were already occupied by other guests.
We were pleasantly surprised to find our room had been upgraded to a large roomy suite with two bathrooms. Location was perfect for exploring downtown SJ and the complimentary breakfast made for a perfect start to the day. We had an excellent dinner in the Gypsy restaurant. The bed was probably one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in during our travels.
Just an observation - the step up bathtub in Room 300 could be tricky for someone older and/or with mobility issues. We managed just fine, and perhaps the front desk staff makes a quick judgement call at check in time if guests appear more frail and elderly.
The location is ideal for exploring St John’s. The history of the place is interesting. The king room was roomy with a comfortable bed.
Breakfast was “cold continental” with yogurt, fresh fruit, baked goods and instant oatmeal. We expected more for the price.
Location to the harbour
The homeless
Location! Breakfast was great to start the day.
Our fireplace wasn’t working.
The location is excellent and having available free parking in downtown St John’s is a huge asset. We liked the low key ambiance and our room was quiet and very pleasant.
Excellent. Friendly helpful staff.
Breakfast was very basic considering the price of the hotel. Muffins, instant oatmeal, yogurt, fruit and drinks. Room was very noisy. Not street noise, just a hum noise.
The location is excellent. Our room was well appointed and very clean.
Unfortunately, our particular room was beside a very noisy air circulation or vent. This happens I know, but other than that our room being excellent the noise was not pleasant Another chair would’ve been welcome. Although the breakfast was good, I have to say I was very disappointed that we had to use Disposable bowls, cups and implements. And it seemed that they were not going to be recycled, but thrown out in the garbage. This is very unfortunate and I hope that in the future you can find some way to create less garbage.
Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
The lighting in the room could have been better.
Location!
4th floor was tough with all our luggage
Everything in the previous questions. All excellent.
I would have liked a fresh bread/ toast option for breakfast.
Zentrale Lage
Interesting historic building. I enjoyed the breakfast choices.
I was hoping for a room with 2 beds, as I was travelling with my son. There were people hanging out and talking near our window at night.
I like the old feel of the rooms. The rooms were large. Part of the breakfast was fine.
Very dark in the rooms because of a small window. The shower dripped constantly. Needed a washer. The breakfast I understand is from Costco. However they need to add additional cereals and change up the baked goods, rather than the same muffins everyday. My biggest issue is the hotel takes no responsibility for the parking. They say it is public, but if you need a parking pass its not public. There were a few break ins. I was told by the front desk they do not take responsibility. As a guest on the last evening, I followed two guys dressed in black with duffle bags. they saw me and hid. I went up to where they were and waited for them to exit. I told the front desk attendant and she said why worry it is not your car. Also she said they are not responsible. I asked her to call the police to do a check and she said they won't come. However I guess she did because the police did a check approx. 10:30 pm. I barely slept at this hotel checking on my car. I mentioned this to the general manger when we checked out and I mentioned they should hire a security guard from evening until morning. his response is they do not have the budget. Same response about changing up breakfast bake goods. Also for the two days at the hotel the elevator was never vacuumed and the same food crumbs remained all weekend. as well the elevator at times did not want to move. Very scary to be in the elevator. It is very old and should be serviced.
The building was unique, staff were very friendly and helpful. The king room was huge and quiet. They supplied a continental breakfast with a variety of fresh fruit, baked goods, yogurt and more.
Our king room was on the 4th floor, very spacious with an attractive modern wood-forward design and a harbor view. There was a 2-person tub but we didn’t use it. Staff was friendly and helpful despite our arrival at a hectic time for the venue - a wedding that was supposed to be outdoors was being moved inside due to heavy rain. We had read reviews stating that elevators didn’t reach the 4th floor; happy to find that wasn’t the case.
Minor issues: In the bathroom, the toilet area was separated from the sink & shower area by a pocket door. I didn’t see any light source in the toilet area. No electric socket near one side of the bed. Seating for the complimentary continental breakfast was very limited; several people had to wait for a place to sit down.
Room was gorgeous and spacious. The breakfast was 3 stars. Small selection of fresh fruit, yoghurt, muffins and packaged oatmeal. Good coffee and cozy space for eating or could take up to your room.
limited selection of breakfast food. would like more fresh fruit an more nutritious muffins.
Spacious and well laid-out room, comfortable bed, friendly and helpful staff
Deadbolt on the door was broken; breakfast was a bit meagre
The location was excellent and had a lot of character
The room was very dark and had a lot of pillar posts . No working fan in the bathroom
Wunderbare Lage!
No Wi-fi. Wasn’t told at check-in but given a password.
It was close to everything including George St.
We liked everything about this hotel, but a little pricey.
Location was super. We walked to restaurants for dinner and evening entertainment.
We were on the street side and the motorcycles were noisy for much of the evening
The room (206) was spectacular! Huge spaces. The location is excellent.
Staff were pleasant and helpful. Great location
Dark eating space...carpet
Location can't be beat for downtown. The beds were super comfortable. AC was quiet so easy to sleep with it on.
The rooms on 4th floor where we were (in the same building as the lobby) don't have elevator access past 3rd floor and if you're tall...well, expect to bang your head as you are in the roof with very little walking room between the bottom of the bed and the roof pitch.
Notre chambre et l'emplacement.
L'air climatisé est trop bouillant et froid.
My wife and I spent two nights at this hotel as part of a fly-drive vacation in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. Our room was comfortable and spacious overlooking the waterfront with all of the amenities we needed, although we were a little unnerved by a big air conditioning outlet positioned in the ceiling directly above the pillows on our bed! A continental breakfast was provided but we thought this was disappointing with a limited choice of items and no hot food. The hotel is conveniently located overlooking the waterfront and with good access to all the shops, bars and restaurants which are all within walking distance. Car Parking was available at the front of the hotel. A comfortable and convenient choice for a few nights stay in St John’s.
Location was very good and the staff the location was very good
The mattress and the pillows were not comfortable at all
Large room and bathroom with the king bed. Location right in downtown for easy walking to restaurants. Convenient hours for the continental breakfast. Free parking right outside the front door.
When we pulled back the bedcovers there was a Kleenex under the top sheet. Towel warmer wasnt working very well.
I loved everything about this place, the location, the history, and the staff. Everything you need is within walking distance of the hotel. The rooms are unique and I highly recommend the Signature King Suite.
There really wasn’t anything I didn’t like, we enjoyed everything about this place.

Being right downtown.
Not enough unused electrical plugs near the bed.

Location was amazing and the room was super comfortable. At first I worried I might be bothered by the carpeting as I have allergies but there was no off-odour from them. We were on the top floor and were able to open the window when we wanted.
I have a severe egg allergy and I’m lactose intolerant so there weren’t many options. Lactose Free Yogurt would have been great as would a dairy free option to pour over the oatmeal provided. A variety of herbal teas beyond peppermint and ginger would be lovely (camomile😊).
Location
Elevator was dirty and needed service Room floors were slanted and uneven ( felt like we were sleeping uphill
Staff was great and loved the look and cleanliness of the place and location was perfect for our plans for the day and night
Bed wasn't the best for comfort and would rather a hot breakfast for the price I payed
We loved the history of the building. Our room was comfortable and the location of the hotel was perfect for exploring St. John’s on foot.
Location was GREAT! We walked to restaurants over our two day stay. Staff was friendly. Room was nice. Bathroom exquisite. However, shower knobs not working well and room temperature could not be regulated. Left sign on door for clean up at 9 am , when we returned at 4 it still was not done.
Su situación en el centro histórico de la ciudad.
Necesita urgentemente una remodelación y hacer algo de caso a los huéspedes porque todos nos quejamos del desayuno.
Great location
Slightly older boutique hotel, could be upgraded.
Bien localizado.
No volvería
We chose to stay at Murray Premises because it is an historic hotel. It’s not a run of the mill ‘modern’ hotel which I have seen enough of to last a lifetime. It’s a former warehouse built in 1846 and since turned into a 69 room hotel. We stayed 4 nights in a standard king room on the second floor and were given a quiet room as requested. Water St and George St are just up the hill and with all the bars and restaurants I imagine some rooms would be a bit noisy. We took the elevator to get to our room ( didn’t notice anything wrong with it) but used the stairs the rest of our visit. Our room was huge, not like the tight spaces in modern hotels. Lots of storage space, a gas fireplace, A/C worked great, good lighting, Keurig coffee maker, fridge but no microwave. Bathroom was huge with wonderful toiletries. There is a jetted tub but we are shower people. We had complimentary breakfast each morning in a cute room off the lobby and I was very pleased with the selection. I had yogurt, oatmeal, juice and mandarin oranges and he had muffins or croissant, oranges and coffee. I was glad to not see powdered eggs, dried up overcooked sausages and bacon which tend to be usual fare in motel chains. It was nice to eat what we would eat at home. We were warmly greeted every time we saw staff members, very happy with the free surface parking lot, everything was very clean and we had no problems at all. We wish every hotel had the charm and character of Murray Premises.
Size and comfort of room. Quiet and relaxing.
Tub is wonderful but rather dangerous to enter and get out. Needs safety bars
Sobre tot la ubicació. També el llit, habitació i bany amples. Parking.
Sorolls a l’habitació. Canyeries. Aire. Tampoc: l’esmorzar
Location was amazing and it was a big room
It was very dated. The place need an overhaul
It’s central location
The fact it had no restaurant
Location and the history in the building
This property looks nice but their customer service is terrible. We cancelled our June 2026 reservation on Marcn 12, 2026 via their website and well within their cancellation policy. Feeling everything was all taken care of, we proceeded with our vacation to the east coast of Canada. Upon our return, we found we were charged one nights stay due to 'no show'. I promptly contacted the hotel, explained that we indeed did cancel our reservation via their website on 3/12/2026 and were told that they have no record of that correspondence - only of the reservation. The gentleman on the phone was less than helpful so we proceeded to dispute it with our credit card company. The property focused on providing the cc company our reservation confirmation which we never disputed. We have no control over how their web site is managed or who manages it but this is no way to treat your customers and certainly leaves a bad feeling for ever dealing with this property again.
The location
The hallways were dirty. The room had very small windows and I felt cluster-phobic. The breakfast is a continental breakfast.
The location is excellent. I don't think there is a better location in St. John's. The room was large and had a post & beam vaulted ceiling. It had some charm to it. Attached photo is the hotel as seen from Signal Hill on a slightly foggy day, using a telephoto lens.
The place was dark, the lighting in the room was not good. The structure is old. You can feel the floor sloping from the exterior wall toward the bathroom. The wifi was completely useless, I had to use my phone for internet access. The breakfast was a disappointing continental breakfast, at least there was good seating. The one elevator was clunky and jerky. We boarded with other guests at one point and they were vexed with the noise and jerkiness of it, I told them "You'll get used to it" and they forced a smile.
Prices not consistent with the quality.Too expensive really especially compared to other modern hotels in town.. This one needs urgent renovation. We had a room with fitted carpet which nowadays is not in use anymore in modern hotels because it retains dirt and causes allergies. The lift had on the floor a piece of carpet which was really dirty. It was not cleaned during our 3 days stay.Disgusting.
The room and staff were delightful.
Right downtown
Historical
It was a short walk to Water and George Street but you couldn't hear all the noise/ music from the nightlife. It was great to have the lounge area where there was breakfast in the morning and room to socialize and meet other travellers into the evening. Also liked that they had filtered water and almond milk available for coffee!
We liked everything! The only thing we could think of that would make our stay better would have been like gluten-free muffins or something of the sort for breakfast. They did offer lots of muffins, yogurt, oatmeal, fruit and fruit juice though.
So close to everything we needed for the George Street Festival
Breakfast could have had some better options and maybe a way to at least warm muffins.
It was central to what we were doing. We attended the George St festival and location was great. We did some day trips and always found parking when we returned. Did a lot of walking in downtown and streets and building had lots of character. And of course being next to the harbour and seeing all the ships was great. Overall a great place and the staff couldn’t do enough. Highly recommend this to anyone. And the price was good considering the location and quality of facility. Thank you
Nothing
Oldy worldy hotel full of original features Car parking was a bonus Rooms super clean Breakfast again was a bonus - fruit, oats, muffins, cereal bars and coffee etc They have a water filter too Room Had a fridge Would choose a high floor
Amazing location, historic
Location and beautiful rooms.
A little noisy from the city.
Breakfast was average at best.
Breakfast.
If you are into a boutique old style hotel, this one will suit you Good size room
I think breakfast should be better (that was not a breakfast!) I think bathrooms should be upgraded
Charming hotel with a lot of character. Loved the whirlpool tub and the room in general was lovely. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was convenient for us to get around the city.
Loved the location
Friendly staff room was clean
2 towels for both of us and 1 facecloth how were we supposed to get ready with no facecloths or towels.
Location staff
Bed small, toilet small, no freezer in fridge, dark room needs overhead lighting. Breakfast room needs microwave
Location was good and free parking readily available. Reception staff always cheerful and helpful. The room was clean and amenities good. Very efficient mini fridge and freezer. Jet tub in bathroom and heated towel rack, which was very useful after we got soaked in the pouring rain one day. Self-serve style continental breakfast and very plentiful, with fruit and muffins, croissants, yoghurt, etc. This food was also available all day until it was used, which was useful for early departures, snacks etc. Wonderful cupboard full of books for an exchange.
Room was dowdy and bedding unattractive. View of inner courtyard. Harbour view would have been nice. Breakfast room was rather small for a fairly large hotel and got very busy. Unfortunately, I couldn't have read the info fully because I was expecting a lovely cooked breakfast so was disappointed, especially for the price. Some jam would have been nice for the croissants, and maybe a toaster.
History of the hotel, ease of parking, size and amenities of room
Hot tub did not work
Location was perfect. Nice touch with a coupon for Jack Astor restaurant across the street. Staff was exceptional and helpful. We were able to check in earlier which was so helpful and appreciated. Gorgeous hotel. We will definitely return.
Nothing- we did have a minor issue about a dripping faucet in the bathroom, but it did not affect out stay. We told the front desk. Other than that, everything was perfect!
Great location in easy walking distance of the centre and lots of restaurants. Can recommend St John’s Fish Exchange and Saltwater. Free parking a bonus. Short drive from the airport.
Limited choice at breakfast. No hot food and porridge was the only cereal available. The first room we had (208) was lovely but the air conditioning unit on the roof above was very noisy and kept us awake most of the night. Staff responded very positively and we moved rooms the next day.
Location is great if you want the downtown vibes and bar scene. The rooms are converted from a port warehouse so much old fashioned wooden construction is evident. Amenities could include more power plugs, USB jacks, bed lamps, brighter room lighting, towel bars and coat hooks in bathroom, etc. The Otis elevator is old and noisy and should be serviced soon. Improvements could elevate the hotel to higher lever.
Great location, comfortable beds, good shower, very friendly staff, and free parking.
Very good location, great bathtub, interesting building with lots of history
Rooms on the 4th floor - you have to carry luggage up the final flight with no help available, half the ceiling is massive rafters sloping to the floor, so the rooms end up being small, breakfast was wrapped muffins and croissants and instant oatmeal - one step up from a gas station meal
Location, Near restaurants and attractions, room size, WiFi strength, water temperature and pressure, storage space, bed comfort, outlets, refrigerator size
Slow tub drainage, rough towels, no tub grab bars, challenging onsite parking, bare bones continental breakfast
Location and vibe
A little dated
Clean. and friendly staff
We were on the front near the highway and motorcycles were revving their engines up and down the road past 11 pm
Central, spacious, comfortable beds
Toilets are very short
Well located on waterfront and near to bars, cafes and restaurants, comfortable large room, nice front desk staff.
Breakfast was poor quality, cling film wrapped muffins, supermarket bought yogurt and mediocre coffee. Restaurant wasn't open so perhaps that's the explanation. Room cleaning could have been better. I usually don't quibble like this but the price I paid meant I expected more.
Location is fantastic. Right on Water street.
Rooms need updating. Bed, bedding pillows quite worn. Bathroom sink permanently stained. Old carpeting. Room tired. Needs a refresh.
Location, nice size rooms
Wish breakfast would have been a little more than cold continental. Pastries were good though.
Comfort clean and excellent location
Heated floor in the bathroom did not work and it would have been nice to have 2 comfortable chairs. Not one and a desk chair
Our room was absolutely lovely. It really made our stay in St. John’s Perfect! The location was perfect. It has the best atmosphere of any place we have ever stayed! I would highly recommend it.
It’s one of the oldest buildings in St. John’s and was originally a warehouse so the rooms have huge wooden beams and uprights. It is next to the harbour and Water Street.
Breakfast was limited- juice, yoghurt, croissants, muffins and fruit. Originally they put us in a room with a loud sound of a fan. Fortunately they moved us.
Location was the best. Staff friendly and helpful.
Loved the large room, didn’t like we couldn’t see out the windows
Location was excellent, continental breakfast was nice ( a little short on seating) elevator is convenient and loved the jet tub. The shower was fantastic
The smoking area is not a great or secure location for guests. We found human feces by the garbage, and another time, a street person approached looking for money. Disappointed the restaurant and patio area are not open, but understand the staff shortage issue. Hallways were very dimly lit, making it hard for anyone with vision issues.
Unterkunft wir direkt in der Stadtmitte.
Breakfast was very poor. Pre-wrapped muffins, basic selection of yogourt and fruit juice. Coffee cups rather than fresh brewed. Calling it continental was a really euphemism for something that was very, very basic.
The building is really showing its age. The bath tub / shower had a really high side and had a huge step up into it. This was extremely dangerous, and I'm amazed that this passed a safety inspection. The heavy plastic curtains didn't close properly which was a serious privacy issue given that the bathroom had a full length window right above the courtyard. Given that it's an old, converted building, expect the noise from guests in the room above. This was very noticeable even though they were actually pretty quite.
Rooms are nice and big, continental breakfast had good choices and good coffee.
Our room (319) was right under someone else’s room and they were walking around all night long. The rooms are not soundproof and we did not get much sleep with that person walking around constantly.
It was quiet, bed was comfortable, decent TV, jacuzzi tub, had a fridge
Could have had a second chair other than a desk chair. The shower put more water out the bottom. The continental breakfast was poor. Fruit, yogurt, juice & muffins.
Location is excellent right on the waterfront. Ambiance is quaint as it is a converted heritage building, however, that quaintness ultimately translates into issues that presented problems for us during our weeklong stay. Parking included was also something we appreciated. The room we had was poorly lit with lousy light fixtures and crappy low level bulbs and not nearly enough of them to read a book with all of them turned on. The historical nature of the building means there are few electrical outlets and windows are limited in size. I can live with it for the historical features like original beams and bricks. However, their lumpy cheap pillows didn't work out well at all. Asking the front desk for something different effectively got me a 2nd set of the same thing. The bathtub/shower was on a tiled raised platform, clearly built that way to manage plumbing needs, but it felt somewhat unsafe to climb in and out on a wet and slippery tile raised area. But the cheap and nasty Costco sugary muffins or sugary oatmeal packets to be moistened with hot water as the only 'continental' breakfast option, did not work for us at all. Diabetics be aware, and I am not a diabetic. Once was enough. We did appreciate the fresh fruit offered if you got to it in time. No protein option other than sugary yogurt made this breakfast one of the worst options I have ever seen in a supposedly higher-rated hotel. We just ended up going out to get a proper breakfast for the rest of our stay. It cost us considerably more, but I got the food I needed to do long hikes around St. John's. I loved the character of this historical building and understood the quirks that come with that history, but I don't think I would choose it again. Interestingly, my friend who is from Newfoundland thought we were 'splurging' on a 'really nice hotel' but I didn't get that feeling
Location and parking
Would be nice if there was a lounge
Just the location was good .
First and foremost the room they tryed to pawn us was so disgusting. It smelt urine or sewage that we had to run out because we were dry heaving . When we told the front desk they admitted that there was a sewage problem in the hotel really!!! Does the housekeeping not report the place is smelling like urine and sewage. And the continental breakfast really!! No butter no cheese no eggs no cold cuts no jam no peanut butter no toaster no milk no cereal the worst continental breakfast We have ever encountered in our many travels .The pace is old and felt like we were in a dungeon. Oh by the way the picture that shows outside must of been taken when opened. Old looking and sad if you believe the good reviews they are delusional.
Staff were friendly and lication is great. The history of the building is fascinating
Breakfast was a bit lacking
