The room was extremely small and had no view. The plug in the bathroom had to be released. The front of House lady was harassed and not overly welcoming. I suffer from a serious stomach upset was there and I suspect it was the food, since I had not did not eat anywhere else.

Great size room. Very comfortable.Really enjoyed additional touches - Fan provided for hot weather/ radio/ water/ drinks/quirky door frames/ huge wardrobes/parking. Bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was very good. We also had an evening meal - again very good. Hotel has 20+ rooms, so felt private and was quiet at night.

Room was fine - no aircon - did not expect it really so night was a little uncomfortable. Other than that room was good and ensuite had everything it needed. Breakfast was ok - not a huge choice on buffet but the cooked breakfast was good. Ideal location for our trip

The extractor fan in ensuite was incredibly noisy. If you needed the light on in the night - it woke the other person up. So so noisy.

The staff were incredibly helpful, kind, efficient and friendly. All of them. They all really tried their best.

3rd floor room incredibly hot tail end of a heatwave. The bedroom window would not stay open; the duty manager found a piece of wood to prop it open. Bathroom window would not open at all. Once the bedroom window was propped open we could enjoy the room and have a good night. So a plea to Maintenance Dept : fix the windows!

Room staff and facilities were excellent. Food in the restaurant exceeded what I was expecting.

Not the hotel fault, but it was extremely hot in room 21. Couldn’t get air through the window and the fan just moved all around.

Beautifully refurbished. Very in keeping with the historical vibe but everything immaculate and clean. Amazing breakfast and great service.

For understandable reasons there was no air con and the old fashioned window did not open that much. Fan provided though.

Lovely hotel and staff. Our bedroom had a great view from the bed out into the countryside. Nice optional online check-in. Didn't have dinner but it looked good. Breakfast was very nice.

Very difficult to sleep in the room we were given because the mattress and pillows were old, lumpy and uncomfortable and because there was loud and erratic clattering noise throughout the night from a faulty ventilation fan outside the window.

Very impressed by the style of the room. I loved the newly renovated bathrooms and the soaps.

No AC and the building holds on to heat for days. We arrived in a day with a high of 90. The room was warm, with 2 very small windows and a tiny table fan that sounded a lot like a percolator coffee pot. As the evening air cooled the room did not. The next day the temperature cooled to 85 and the day after 75, but the building held on to the hot air. It was much warmer inside than outside. The windows in the bathroom don't open so we couldn't get a cross breeze and the bathroom was particularly stuffy. They have problems with booking seeing how many guests we had on our reservation, so the sofa bed wasn't made up for our daughter and when we went to set it up around 11 there were no supplies in our room. They fixed that right away but it was a little uncomfortable as our family were in our pj's. Aldo they didn't have a record of our daughter at breakfast. They said they get problems with bookings sometimes from booking. These weren't a big deal exactly, and in a different season like winter I might stay there again but not if the highs were above 70.

Staff were excellent and the room was spotless, bed very comfortable. Bathroom and shower very good. Room was on the small side, but excellent for one night. Great location & we would certainly stay there again.

This hotel is a 15-20 min walk from the overground station and about a 10 min walk from the town centre, it's in a great location. The room was clean and a reasonable size. The staff were really very helpful and pleasant.

I happened to stay during the second heatwave in the UK this year. Sadly and rather uncomfortably there was no AC in the room. They’re also isn’t a fridge, nor does the Hotel provide slippers or a towing robe. It is worth noting that if there is an event on at the hotel during your stay, it will be very difficult to sleep until that event is over. The music was very, very loud. The hotel did provide a fan which was helpful. All of that to say is before you book - read the fine print! I’m used to those things being automatic but it’s worth noting for future guests that these things are not automatically provided.

A very attractive, well kept hotel with friendly and efficient staff.

The bedrooms and upper floors were unbearably hot and airless. Provision of air conditioning is urgently needed especially in these times of global warming.

There is easy access to the town. Staff are friendly and the attractive building has a useful car park. The coolest spot in the building was in the spacious first floor viewing gallery where you could sit and work.

A fan was provided but in this recent hot weather the room was very hot. A grilled tomato at breakfast was oddly served in a small bowl rather than in a plate!

Beautiful building. Lovely room. Free parking. Staff spoken to were kind and helpful. Particularly the reception manager on Saturday night/ Sunday morning. Lovely stay location great but not value for money.

So hot. Considering weather and prices of rooms a more substantial fan would have been nicer than the tiny, cheap plastic fans. A turbo fan maybe or a larger pedestal fan nearer the bed. It was an uncomfortable sleep. Bar shut early before 1200 and no 24 HR staff seemed to be available so no cold drinks available on returning. There were some guests in the reception lounge. Only a number to call in an emergency. But this was not available from rooms only the sign in reception.

The hotel staff and sevice was excellent, and we really enjoyed our stay. I have dropped a star, the reason being we were staying at the hotel during the very hot period. The lack of Air Conditioning made the bedroom very hot. there was a fan in the room but all that did was blow the hot air around, even with the windows open. The addition of some form Air Conditioning would greatly improve the bedrooms.

Room was nice and well decorated but a little on the small side. The worst element of the stay was the lack of air con in the room. Whilst I understand the heat and temperatures were extreme and mid heat wave, the temperature in the room was unbearable and very difficult to sleep. I think the hotel needs to invest in some kind of air conditioning, even portable units to cover the summer months.

Incredibly generous staff went above & beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. We arrived several hours before check in and were kindly offered the air conditioned conference room to get ready for a wedding. The team really did all they could. Clean, comfortable room, and a great shower.

We were there in a heatwave and our room was unbearably hot. With climate change, an old Victorian building like this really does need to consider air conditioning.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is in a very good position.

The temperature in my room was positively dangerous. I was shown other rooms I could use instead, but the temperature there was similarly far too hot. The staff told me that the inadequacies of the hotel in dealing with high temperatures had been pointed out to the hotel owners on several occasions, but they refused to do anything. I managed about 3 hours sleep in the course of the night by wrapping myself in wet towels. In order to avoid potential tragedies, the hotel should be avoided during the summer period until this problem is solved.

We attended a presentation evening last week and the se tmeal, although fairly priced did have shortcomings. My starter of a mackerel pate was extremely salty and when I requested some extra bread pieces (only two the size of a 50p coin with a large portion of pate), I was told there was no more! After the first course was served the waiters proceeded to bring napkins to the tables! BLTN. The main courses were fairly good but my wife had extra, where the pastry toppings to the mushroom 'tart', not a tart, had been made separately on sheets of greaseproof paper. We knew this as it had not been removed before plating up! A complaint was made and a quick apology returned. I would have thought that this would have invoked a bit more than that. If we had been on an individual booking, I would have refuse to pay for this but as we had paid in advance , that want going to happen. Not even an offer of a free drink!! The room was comfortable an f there was entertainment proved by a male singer doing covers. I assume he looked good, sounded ok but he was completely in the dark, no stage but no reason why a couple of spotlights could not have been erected. Expensive bar prices on top. This is such an iconic building in the town with comfortable areas in and out, its a pity it falls short.

My room had superb views and a comfortable bed. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast. The service was good in the restaurant and bar primarily with young uniformed staff. My recommendation would be for management staff to be uniformed to avoid inappropriate dress and for image. There is no phone in the room. The restaurant set menu for groups can take up to 90 minutes for a three course meal.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Located a short walking distance to the city centre. The room was lovely and comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly, and there was a great choice for breakfast.

The only fault I could say was that the bathroom window would not stay open, but that was not a major issue and did not majorly impact on the stay!

Wasn’t expecting this to be as nice. We had a really good checkin from the Manager. Then my room (took some finding) was superb. I think it had been refurbed. It was super clean. Fantastic bed and a nice seating area. Great tea and coffee pods. We also had a superb breakfast. Seriously, the manager and team at this place are doing a wonderful job.

Really lovely staff. The woman on the front desk couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. It's also a beautiful building, I arrived at dusk and it look lovely with the lights on, all glowing.

Breakfast only served between 8-10am on weekends, would have been nice to have option for room service as well. Thought hotel was a little tired, and room overpriced.
