Beautiful view
Drinks from the bar and desserts were delicious. The staff at the front desk as well as in the restaurant were very kind and welcoming.
Maybe offer a plastic / disposable tray for people who want to take food and beverages to their room- to give them something to carry it on. I struggled carrying two plates and two drinks with nothing to put them on from the restaurant up to the 17th floor and down the hall.
We had an amazing stay at the Grand Rapids location. The hotel was very nicely kept and all the staff were very welcoming and professional. I want to compliment one employee in particular who we felt went over and beyond her job responsibilities. She took charge and instead of deligating she was actually doing everything. I was even more impressed to find out she was the general manager. Jas Staten is any companies ideal employee. She displayed professionalism, character and commitment well beyond expectation. You could tell she not only enjoyed her job but truly cared and it showed. The staff even commented on how much they loved working for and with her. JW you hit the jack pot with hiring Jas and I hope you know how valuable of an employee she is to the Marriott family.
WOW, we loved our stay. The last time we visited was in 2020 where the hotel had bare minimum staffing and service wasn't the greatest. Great to see how things have changed. Arriving and self parking was very easy. The only downside is if you need an EV charger they are padlocked and you have to Valet + pay a surcharge. We opted not to but it is an inconvenience nonetheless. Check in was fast and great. We arrived at 1pm and got early check in, which helped with our family staying in multiple rooms. We went to the pool which was a decent sized indoor pool, good for laps but only about 3 foot 10 inches at its deepest. No hot tub but the eucalyptus steam room and infrared sauna room made up for it. Restaurant opens up too late, had a huge line at 5pm with tons of people trying to dine before the busy night. We enjoyed the service and food. We didn't get a chance to go to the club lounge for dinner or dessert since we opted for the restaurant for a quick meal before we ran to our show. Noise levels at this hotel are a little loud at night with lots of events going on. If noise is something you care about, inquire about it at check in to potential get a quieter room. Rooms are great sized, modern, and love the bathroom. The Club Lounge is on the top floor and is really tiny, which can get packed real quick. We arrived right at 7am for breakfast, to find that the staff didn't quite have everything set up and ready to go. I wish the staff were given more time to set up so food can be ready at 7am, which is already a little late compared to other properties. Food didn't end up being ready till closer to 7:15am and with the crowds it made a quick early morning meal a bit stressful. I know JW's don't provide breakfast as a welcome gift but I wish maybe they would offer breakfast in the restaurant in lieu of club lounge access to help with crowds and late setup times. Overall we loved the property and were so excited we were in the area to return. We will absolutely be back, and we look forward to trying the club lounge and restaurant again!
What a great property! Lovely setting, stylish hotel, attentive service, modern rooms, some with great views of the river. Very diverse breakfast buffet and an active concierge lounge that is staffed and stocked. My only issue was needing to sleep and it was difficult. Early evening (8-11 pm or so), a concert was going on at a relatively new public amphitheater downtown and down river. But apparently the sounds travels easily and in tact across the waters to make it present to river-facing rooms in the hotel. The front desk offered to send up ear plugs, but if this is problem, better sound proofing and thicker paned or multi-paned windows are needed in those rooms. The offer of ear plugs is hardly a solution. To make it worse, a trio of drummers began playing on the Blue Bridge at 1:30 AM. The front desk called the police, but it took them until about 2:15am to get it shut down. All in all, not much quality sleeping time. While the drumming is clearly an issue beyond the hotel's immediate purview, staff seems to know about these noise problems. Absent a window fix, the least they could do is alert guests to the possibility and invite them to request a room that is not liable to be noisy. In fact, they alerted me via formal written letter to lock upgrades happening during my stay, but noise is clearly a bigger issue.
We stayed on the Executive Level in order to access the lounge. During the week, snack and small bites are very limited to non-existent due to staffing. We were not given our breakfast passes, however the desk agent provided Starbucks cards due to the mistake.
It was beautiful and clean
Nothing
Every detail was exceptional. I have stayed in many Marriot properties and this is the best by far. It is in the class of Four Seasons-Well done!
The executive lounge food was lacking for grab and go- no fruit and sugary options- consider Greek yogurt instead of plain and nuts or other healthy options as opposed to snack mix.
Charged the wrong credit card. A month later they still haven’t corrected their mistake. No follow up.
The customer service was extremely accommodating and friendly. Easily the best customer service I have ever had!
I really enjoyed my one night stay at this modern stylist hotel. For titanium elite they offered me access to the JW Club on the top floor, which was lovely. They had happy hour bar service there in the evening for a small fee. The server had bright red hair and was exceptionally friendly sharing tips about the area along with cocktails and wine. The room was awesome with floor to ceiling views of the river and we were upgraded to a corner room. We had a slight problem with our first room as for some reason the mattress was wet and the agent Mandolin apologized profusely and moved us to the same room on a different floor. The valets were also exceptionally friendly.
Our room was excellent. We made use of the spa and the restaurant, both of which were wonderful. We also loved the skyway access to other areas. Very convenient!
Cleanliness. Nice amenities.
If you pay online through booking, they will charge you again at the front desk.

Beautiful looking hotel. We were excited to finally stay at a JW. Amazing Valet, Bell service and front desk. But…but…THE ROOMS! They seem nice, but the mattresses? They use the ones that Motel 6 sends back. They are the most uncomfortable mattresses I’ve ever slept on. Combined with pancake pillows, super uncomfortable sleeping… The noise transfer room to room was unacceptable too. You could hear the mumbling of normal conversation next door. Combined with super slow internet and poor tv channel selection and it’s too much to over look. Holiday Inn Express is more comfortable. Really disappointing…
Close to all of the attractions and activities. The amenities were incredible.
I’ve stayed at this JW more than 25 nights over the years. As a Gold Member, I was surprised that there was no acknowledgment of my status or added consideration during check-in. I originally booked a King room and in the past have usually been given a nice view or an upgraded room. Due to some medical issues my son was experiencing, I needed to extend our stay by an additional night and change the room to two Queens. When I requested this at the front desk, the gentleman assisting me seemed noticeably put off. I had also requested a high floor and a room away from the elevators when I made the reservation. Despite that, we were assigned room 613, which overlooks the parking garage and is on a lower floor. I understand that it’s not the end of the world, but I do feel that my long-standing loyalty to the Marriott brand should have been taken into consideration when assigning our room. Now the pros: This hotel is absolutely lovely, both inside and out. It’s very well maintained, extremely clean, and even smells pleasant throughout. The common areas are thoughtfully designed to feel both open and private at the same time. The direct skywalk access to the Amway Grand and surrounding downtown areas is also very convenient. Margaux Restaurant and the bar are consistently excellent—not only in taste but also in presentation. The bartenders, wait staff, and hosts/hostesses are all outstanding. The breakfast buffet offers a great variety, and the staff will prepare fresh omelets, eggs, and other items to order. The valet team also deserves recognition. They were helpful, pleasant, quick to respond, and overall great to work with. The guest rooms themselves are clean, comfortable, and nicely appointed, though the lighting could be a bit brighter. Overall, I truly love this hotel and plan to continue staying here. That said, ensuring the staff consistently recognizes and treats loyal Marriott members thoughtfully should remain a top priority.
It was beautiful
NA
We loved the bathroom and the view of the river
nothing we would change
Great location, beautiful room
Had an unpleasant odor
Good location convenient to all of downtown. This is a circular building so the rooms are oddly shaped. Generous room size. My room was in desperate need of a floor lamp and stronger light bulbs. It would be very difficult to conduct a video call in the room.
Amazing views, clean comfortable rooms and very friendly staff
It exceeded our expectations
One of the most unprofessional and unpleasant experience ever and safety was a huge concern and an assault took place. There are multiple Marriott hotels in downtown Grand Rapids and I would highly recommend others.
Premium hotel, premium location, premium facilities
Routine maid service is not provided unless explicitly requested. Unfortunately, customers willing to pay for such a premium hotel are surprised when the room is not refreshed by late in the day. Unempowered staff are then unable to effortlessly provide maid service. Customers should be notified at check-in about the need to explicitly request maid service rather than be surprised at the end of the day.
Gorgeous hotel with sweeping views of the lovely riverfront; most comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom; luxe linens. VAlet service was really special - - and would recommend it as it costs only $4 more than self-park. The valets were great.
Greeting at front desk was abrupt and dismissive, with no explanation of elevator operation or getting music into the room. We tried to connect our digital music ( it is Christmastime!) to the TV using the instructions, and were unable to do so. Otherwise, NO complaints. Lovely hotel !!
Atmosphere
Room heater did not work. Maintenance fixed it after being called at 10 PM.
We loved this hotel with a convenient location in Grand Rapids. The staff was very helpful at the desk. The rooms were clean and modern. For JW Marriott product line, this hotel was an excellent value. The hotel was quiet even though located downtown. The restaurant and bar were really nice to hang out. I loved the brunches. A nice little gem in a nice town. Thank you.
The staff was friendly. Everyone from the desk to services room service and valet parking. Everyone was very friendly and helpful
The hotel staff was very professional. The valets were extremely helpful and did such a great job of taking care of our luggage and getting us up to our room. Overall, a wonderful experience.
We enjoyed our stay
Mattresses were like sleeping on floor. Pillows terrible. Will take days for my body to recover
Clean and spotless
Great property right on the river, super comfortable bed, nice room, great fitness room, good bar and really nice staff!
Beautiful newly renovated rooms!
Very nice place all around great stay
Location
Service was poor, executive lounge was not well stocked or staffed. Service in hotel bar was non existent. I had to go an asked for service after more than 35 minutes.
The location
sound insulation is poor
We’ve come to call the JW Marriott Grand Rapids our “Luxurious Safe Space” on account of two different unfortunate circumstances: - The first one was last August when we were traveling back from a death in my significant other’s family. The hotel we stayed at previously was terrible. It was as if we’d suffered two tragedies in one day’s time!! However, our second night we stayed there at the JW Marriott and it was as if our sorrows had come and gone! To see that review, please visit my TripAdvisor page. - Fast forward to June of this year. We’re in town for my significant other’s reunion. I was very excited to stay in Grand Rapids again, but decided to switch things up and stay at the Grand Amway. Boy did that turn out to be a nightmare!! I was excited to stay there because I had once worked for the company that did their renovations. However, we learned the hard way NEVER STAY THERE EVER AGAIN!!! Gorgeous property, just poorly maintained and even more poorly managed!! For the review to that horrific hotel you can also visit my TripAdvisor page. Nevertheless, this all set the stage for my stay at the JW Marriott Grand Marriott…! First, I called over and asked for Hannah because I remembered the amazing work her team at the front desk did for me and my family when we stayed there! She wasn’t available, so I spoke to someone on her staff named Kyler who could not have been nicer nor sweeter. She was very sweet and professional. When I explained my entire situation and why I needed to speak to Hannah, she got her right away. They were both nice enough to not only hold a suite for me, but offer a complimentary upgrade!!!! Guess it pays to be a Marriott elite member too, huh?! LOL!!! Irregardless, when I called back to say that we had finished up canceling our reservation at the Curio Grand Amway, Kyler and Isreal, along with the amazing valet and doormen, were able to help us get situated right into our lovely suite!! One of the things you notice right away about the hotel is the stunning contemporary architecture and design. It’s elements and spaces are modern, yet flows through forms. Oh, did I mention they also have live music? As well as top notch dining right off the river? Yep, this place has it all. Including the best private lounge in the city! So with the Best Front Desk Crew ran my Hannah, top notch restaurant and lounge, gorgeous rooms with state of the art appliance and amenities and some of the nicest valet/doormen, why would you stay anywhere else? JW Marriott is the pinnacle of luxury in Grand Rapids and that’s why I HIGHLY recommend it over any other place in the city!!! For us, it continues to simply be our LUXURIOUS SAFE SPACE!! :-)
Staff
I loved the view out the window looking toward the river! Our hotel room was super clean with beautiful and thoughtfully updated touches! Eating at Margaux was a treat too with its wonderful staff and food. We had a large table on for brunch on a Friday and our server was very attentive. We don’t visit Grand Rapids very often but if we did we’d definitely stay at this hotel again.
Nothing really.
Great place to stay, good food. Clean comfortable room.
Shower wouldn't shut off, a spider the size of a silver dollar was in my room, and there was a 2 inch open gap umder my door. I could take a picture of the room with my camera. This place has really gone downhill.
My wife & i had a great time with our stay. The food and drinks we had was really good.
It’s been a while, but had a wonderful time in GR. Nice location for sure. Fabulous weekend brunch; the sorbet mimosa was so yummy! Would def come back.
I rated it good because the room was nice and it was very clean. Location is good. However, beware when you are checking in. We were in line to check in and I overheard one of the women behind the desk tell the guest about breakfast, the third floor amenities, etc. She was very friendly. Now its my turn and I get "Stella". No smile, no "how are you", no acknowledgement of me being a Marriott member. Just a glare. She checks us in. I ask about breakfast, she mumbles an answer. I ask about other amenities. I was clearly bothering her. Still no smile and never a thank you. Marriott....Stella needs to be put in a position where she doesn't interact with guests. That said, we had a drink at the outdoor bar later in the evening and Hannah at the bar was awesome. Friendly, attentive and always a smile.
Our parking wasn’t the best experience. I wish we were told to keep our room key so that we could get out of the parking garage. We had to pay through the hotel for overnight parking, and pay again leaving the parking garage. We’re trying to get that settled.
First time staying here and we were impressed. The room was clean and recently updated. All staff were very friendly and helpful. We are definitely going to stay here again next Tim we are in GR.
I had a reservation for a year there overlooking the river for the Fourth of July on a site like Booking.com, well come to find out I needed a (river view corner room) to see the fireworks but that room was $200 dollars more, I said no way so I cancel that reservation, so then i got on JW website found the room that I needed, had it reserved on my card, had the confirmation on my phone. Went down there after 4:00 to pay for it, they told me I didn't have that room they told me the rooms went quickly, I told them I had that room earlier. Long story short they skewed me out of that room too the highest bidders
Wonderful 10/10.
It was great but over priced.
Structure and amenities are good. We have had our reservations for months ~ staff from check in to housekeeping and its inspection process was failing on the day of our arrival ~ which by the way was 4:00! We checked in ~ they checked us in under the wrong reservation ~ after taking our payment the error was uncovered ~ so two check ins to start ~ were told if there were billing errors we would need to work that out with Expedia ~ who had nothing to do with the check in error. We were left to occupy ourselves in the bar until the staff could inspect our upgraded room. Over an hour later notice of the prepared room comes and we need to claim our keys in another long que. we appreciate the upgrade yet the disappointment at the value and service for the price are totally underwhelming. Having had 2 great recent experiences at Gaylord properties we are contemplating returning to Hyatt!
We liked the space and it was very clean 9
So we had three people in our room because we came to town for a concert. There was only two coffees in the room and two cups and too many lights from the microwave tv alarm and etc. I like a dark room when I sleep
Had an amazing time. Will be staying again. Indoor pool was fantastic.

The room seemed sound proof. Furniture was very nice and artfully decorated.
Nice facility and room, staff is very friendly
My mom, sister and I had the most glorious staycation at the JW Marriott. The staff was kind and welcoming beyond the call of duty, particularly Isabel (at the front desk) and Jacob R (one of the valets). Their huge smiles and friendly conversation, coupled with their expertise and solid advice, took the hotel's comfort to another level. The weather in Grand Rapids was rainy during our stay, so we made the most of the hotel's amenities and enjoyed the 23rd floor Executive Lounge (their dessert hour was a great end cap to our day) and the fitness center, as well as our comfy beds. The room was well-appointed with a Nespresso machine (LOVE) hotel robes, and a marvelous soaking tub (ask for the bath salts!). My sister forgot her toothbrush - no problem, the desk provided her a bamboo one. As my mom said, the weekend could not have been more perfect. Thank you Isabel, Jacob, and all the other wonderful staff members for making our stay feel extra special. We can't wait to come back!
Shoutout to Isabelle at the front desk—absolutely fabulous and made check-in a breeze! The room was spacious, the bathroom was downright marvelous, and seriously… can I take that purple chaise lounge home? Instant love. The first-floor bar was the perfect spot for post-event drinks, and you can’t beat the convenience of being attached to the DeVos Place. That said, signage for my event was a little too subtle—nearly crashed a couple of weddings before finding the right room (oops!). Bonus: they’ve got EV charging on site—just be aware there are more Tesla chargers than standard ones. All in all, a stylish and comfy stay with a few quirks that make for a good story
Close to concert venue.
Easy
This is a very high end hotel, I splurged on the stay. I did not realize you could not unload your vehicle until in the front of the hotel yourself. The
Great location. Close to many restaurants. Beautiful view. Staff were absolutely amazing and helpful. Very much impressed by all the valet workers. All of them went above and beyond and were as pleasant as could be. Thank you for a nice stay.
Very convenient. Enjoyed our time there. Very clean
Had Easter Brunch reservations. This is the second time I’ve been disappointed with the entire experience. The food lacked flavor from the deviled eggs to the 3 greasy potato dishes. The ham was dry, the only salad was a tiny Waldorf salad, roasted carrots were so hard I couldn’t cut them with a knife, again no flavor. There was an omelette station but no one was ever there to make them. No bread selection. Had to request multiple times for plates to be removed and beverages to be refilled. Chocolate mousse desert was delicious. Carrot cupcake was dry. For a meal that cost $81, dinner was $65 + 20% Service Charge, to say I was disappointed, would be an understatement. I will not be returning, ever.
This is not a JW Marriott experience and the worst Marriott I have ever stayed at. Our family is very well traveled and have never had such poor experience. First, we had a 4 night/5 day stay. The staff starts knocking on your door at 8am. We’re from California, so that’s 5am PST. We ask them to come back in a few hours when we’re gone for room service. Of the 4 nights we were there, they only showed up once! We’re gone all day and usually come back around 10pm. By the third night, we complained downstairs and they finally sent someone the next day. Our trash cans were all full and we had no towels left. We came home the 4th night and again, no service. I would think even a Motel 8 would send someone to take out the trash, needless to say a JW. They gave us a handicap room with a faucet that didn’t work. We asked for a new room and despite having gold status, the front desk said that the general manager stated that they will not move us but will send someone to fix our non-working faucet the next day. The blow dryer was disgusting. Old, peeling, sticky and cream still stuck on the back of the blow dryer. The baskets where they have your towels in were all dusty and filthy. The trash cans were also not cleaned and you can see residue from the last visitor. This hotel does not live up to the JW brand and I would never stay here again. Would not recommend anyone else especially if you’re traveling with family.
