Reviewed Sep 8, 2026War länger als erst geplant im Hotel. Habe mir ein Upgrade mit Stadtblick gezogen und was soll ich sagen. 8. Stock und Ausblick über die Bucht und die Stadt. Sauber, geräumig, alles funktioniert, herrliche Warmwasser-Dusche. Leckeres und abwechslungsreiches Frühstück. Empfehlenswert!
Die günstigsten Zimmer nach hinten sind etwas kleiner und bieten eine Blick auf ein Sozialbau. Lieber einen 10er mehr investieren

Reviewed Sep 3, 2026Everything were superb. From front desk welcoming and smooth check in to hotel rooms and room service all incredibly satisfied. The room service staffs even fold my clothes nicely and placed it neatly. The breakfast also suited my family's taste and variety of choice.
Sabahan language gap. But is alright. I can tolerate with it all.

No tenia moqueta la habitación e incluso nos preguntaron si preferíamos queen bed o individuales. Cenamos en el restaurante del hotel y buena relación calidad-precio.

La zona non è molto turistica, bisogna spostarsi a piedi per arrivare al lungo mare e ad alcuni ristoranti. Struttura un po' spartana. Al check in c'è stata un po' di confusione con un altro ospite con un nome simile.

Reviewed Aug 31, 2026Bright clean room with rear view on to the forest. Mosque nearby but the call for prayer was pleasant and melodic rather than a cacophony. Comfortable twin beds, adequate storage space and clean bathroom. Kettle, cups and tea/coffee provided. Excellent breakfast. Good wi-fi. Early check in permitted although price of 50 MAR was a bit steep. Free luggage storage while we went on Kinabatangan river trip. Excellent location just a few minutes walk from the waterfront and close to Agnes Keith house. Good aircon.
Standard twin room was a bit on the small side. Much bigger rooms were available at a cheaper price with a late booking if only I had known

The hotel is older style but the rooms and facilities are spacious, clean and comfortable. Quiet, good location and short walk to city centre. Quality nearby restaurants including the hotel restaurant. Our experience is that the hotel deserves a higher overall rating

Reviewed Aug 5, 2026Wir haben hier 2 Nächte verbracht. Das Hotel liegt sehr gut im Stadtgebiet. Nicht mittendrin aber auch nicht weit draußen. Direkt am Heritage Walk einem Spazierweg zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten der kleinen Stadt. Es ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen und hat seine beste Zeit hinter sich. Auch die Sauberkeit ist verbesserungswürdig. Das Frühstück ist hingegen sehr gut und erfüllt alle landestypischen Ansprüche. Der Preis ist fair. Insgesamt also eine mittlere Bewertung.

Die Fenster waren etwas hellhörig und die Klimaanlage ließ sich nicht gut einstellen.

Hotel and rooms are extremely dated. Rooms are very basic. Cost per night does not feel like value for money especially given the fact a basic fridge is not provided. This is a one night stay as a layover tbh.

Reviewed Jun 10, 2026First of all, this is my 1st visit to Sandakan after my last visit which was 20 years ago. I find the front office was friendly, welcoming & very accommodative. The room was good for a night stay. Breakfast was also very good, since have a wide selection. Thank you.
Only when we went out for a walk, their was a guy sitting across the hotel, who was holding a long parang. We had to make a different route to walk then. Mainly for us ladies is our safety. The location is fine.

Reviewed May 31, 2026Das Zimmer war Top. Es war etwas hellhörig, ansonsten war alles super. Das Frühstück morgens war sehr umfangreich. Und auch sonst konnte man gut in dem Restaurant essen. Das Hotel liegt direkt am Heritage Walk und nur 5 Minuten vom Ufer entfernt.

The parking space is at the back of the hotel. Very small space. Not that convenient to those who bring car. But you have no choice because that’s only safe place to keep your car. It’s risky to park around the shop nearby.

Reviewed May 18, 2026Dit is een prima hotel voor een verblijf in Sandakan, personeel is supervriendelijk, de locatie is prima, alles is goed te voet bereikbaar.
De kamers van het hotel zijn gedateerd, maar wel schoon, restaurant is daarentegen modern en pas opgeknapt denk ik. Het ontbijt is wat minimalistisch. De bedden zijn erg hard. Je krijgt maar 2 (bad) handdoken, geen reserve wc-rol op de kamer.

Reviewed May 17, 2026We stayed at Hotel Sandakan for a couple of nights in April, in a ‘deluxe twin room’. Very good location if you’re interested in the nearby Heritage Trail. Pleasant, efficient receptionist. Clean, modern lobby. Our room, 513, had a large picture window with a view over a few streets toward the water, 2 chairs, a small round table, dresser/desk, closet. Odd ‘light boards’, but we got use to them. The bathroom was just ok, and the tap water was tan. We weren’t bothered by the nearby mosque call to prayer. Breakfast, included in the price, was served in the restaurant next to the reception desk. The first morning was buffet style; the second morning they offered limited choices/not the buffet. There is a Chinese restaurant on the 1st floor, however we didn’t try it.
* Although the room description included a refrigerator, and there was a space made for a small one, there wasn't one in the room. * The lobby has been renovated however the hallways and rooms have not been. The photographs make the rooms look fresher and more updated than ours was.

En pleno centro de la ciudad pero alejado del bullicio de las calles centrales, a unos 20 minutos del Aeropuerto de Sandakan y a 40 minutos en coche de Sepilok. Llegué antes de la hora del Check-in y me guardaron el equipaje hasta que mi habitación estuvo preparada. Me avisaron por WhatsApp cuando la habitación estaba lista para entrar. El aire acondicionado funcionaba bien.
La habitación no estaba limpia del todo. Había pelos en el baño de los anteriores huéspedes, un tapón de una botella de agua, suciedad debajo del lavabo y la mampara de la ducha parece que no se ha limpiado desde que se abrió el hotel. El desayuno muy limitado y con pocas opciones. La piña estaba pasada. Valido para pasar una noche.

Reviewed May 12, 2026The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, from reception to housekeeping. Location was good, very close to town.
This hotel is falling apart. Everything in my room was broken, the wardrobe door, the toilet was leaking, there was a bad smell and there was black mold on the ceiling of my room. Also the shower head sprayed the water over the shower cabin into bathroom, unless you held the shower head the whole time, so the room was soaked after showering. There were very few options for western breakfast, and no western food left if you arrived after 8:30.

Reviewed May 4, 2026Het was zeer proper, het personeel zeer behulpzaam en er was keuze genoeg bij het ontbijt. Elke dag verse handdoeken, al was dat niet nodig, en overal vlakbij.
In Sandakan zelf is er niet veel te beleven, maar in de ruime omgeving wel!

Było głośno bo obok stoi meczetem. To jest bardzo męcząca dla ludzi z innych krajów. W trakcie ramadanu jest bardzo głośno. Bardzo słaby internet był w pokoju. Musiałam Korzystać z własnego internetu.

It is right next to the mosque so every morning we were woken up around 5 am by the call to prayer. Good breakfast but, they don’t light the food warmers so the food is cold, which is a shame as they offer a good selection.
