Beautiful room that was clean with a good sized bathroom. Very stylish decor and comfy bed. 10 minutes walk to the main centre. It certainly was a great location to be in.
Charging £18 per day for their clients who have already paid good money for the room was a bit steep.
Nice and good building. Highly recommended!

It’s was beautiful, from entering the building, the decor was amazing, the staff were so helpful and friendly.
Great breakfast - Short walk to city center!
Location Cleanliness Friendly staff
La amabilidad del personal. Llegamos temprano y nos permitieron dejar las valijas. Al volver al hotel, ya estaban en nuestra habitación. Bien ubicado.
En la habitación del sub suelo, circula poco aire
All staff were outstanding, food was excellent room view wasn’t good but I understand why.
Location was perfect. Hotel was spotless
Nothing
Near to the venue that we were going to. Had a pizza outside which was pricey but nice.
all ok
Homely & friendly atmosphere
La struttura è bellissima e anche le camere, molto belle , il ristorante è buonissimo.
Non apprezzo la colazione calda al tavolo senza buffet. Buona , ma troppa attesa è la mancanza di un buffet non aiuta
Convenient position, lovely staff.
Thought the price of the accommodation should include the car parking. Television wouldn’t turn off so had to take the card out which meant everything electrical went off too!
convenient with helpful staff
room a little dark but that’s part of an old building which we like
The welcome greeting by Ian made us feel comfortable and at ease as his friendly but professional approach explained everything we needed to know. The rooms were lovely and clean and the bed was comfortable. The Uniqueness of this hotel made it very interesting. The food and service were excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. One evening we had pizza in one of the pods in the garden area, lovely cosy atmosphere with warm blankets and twinkling lights. It was conveniently situated within walking distance to Yorkminster and surrounding area and the map given to us at reception helped us plan our routes. Car parking was available at this hotel which was a great help.
Nothing.
The staff, the location, and the breakfast were exceptional.

Great location only 5 minutes walk from York Minster. Parking was a bonus it wasn’t free but it was secure and convenient. The hotel theme was quirky but tasteful. Bar and staff brilliant.
Breakfast was a little disappointing for the money. We paid £75 for two adults for two mornings. Everything was table service and I do prefer to help myself to juice, fresh fruit, yoghurt etc and unfortunately the sourdough toast was too hard to eat.
The Churchill oozes history. Our room on the first floor had modern twist on character. The bathroom was bright and spacious. Enjoyed a great pizza in the igloo in the beautiful outdoor area. Dining room is very charming.
We thought breakfast at the hotel was expensive, so ate elsewhere.
Excellent hotel in a great location

Location is great and staff friendly and helpful.
Couldn't fault anything
Locatie, de (grote) kamer, het ontbijt! Personeel prima. De prijs was aan de hoge kant maar dat hadden we er graag voor over.
Niets.
Lovely and fresh lots of choice
Paying £18 for parking
The quality of the food was good The service was good, staff were friendly and smartly dressed The atmosphere and charm of an old builing was a great influence on our choice of accommodation. The Chirchill is well placed for easy access to the city centre and the local attractions.
We booked the Chirchill because it was close to the city and attractions and offered high standard accommodation. That being said, we had a bit of a shock when we received an email two days before our stay advising us of a car parking fee of 18.50 per night. There was no mention of a parking charge when I booked. The hot water was off one day and the receptionist advised me it's because the plumbing is old and they can't upgrade it because the building is heritage listed. (I'm a master plumber and I know this is not true)
Lovely staff, great location and very clean
.
The restaurant, bar and downstairs facilities were great.
Tired room, needs painting , new fan (noisy), lock and bathroom tap stiff.
Didn't have breakfast. Room only
The Churchill was very clean and the staff were very polite and helpful from the front desk to the bar staff, everyone we came across was warm and welcoming. The breakfast was very nice with lots to choose from. I must say the attention to detail was exceptional even down to the name of the Brasserie with reference to the man who hid Churchill after he escaped from a prison of war camp in 1899, which me and my wife thought was a nice touch. It is in a great location just a a lovely short stroll into york centre.
I can not say anything bad about the Churchill hotel.
Really nice staff and location. Room was very nice.
Didn't get our room serviced first morning. We didn't realise you had to request it, however the staff brought us extra coffee milk and toiletries etc when we complained.
Breakfast was very nice nothing was a problem, more if you wanted it. The staff were all amazing receptions Ian was very helpful and a pleasure to talk to. Information of the area was very helpful too.
Free parking and an EV point. Not a criticism just helpful to me
Bedroom, bathroom and hotel very clean. Bed comfy and slept well. Staff were excellent in reception, bar and at breakfast, could not fault their positive attitude to making my stay a great one. I left my phone charger in the room when I departed and they found it and posted it to my house. Excellent customer service. In a great location near to minster.
Although the bedroom was clean and very comfortable and I slept well, I found it strange not having a window. The room had a large Velux roof window which did open, but room felt a bit weird. Fine for one night, but not sure I’d have liked it for a few days.
Sehr gute Lage. Fußläufig zur Innenstadt. Parkplatz vor dem Hotel. Nettes Personal.
Lovely old building, newish rooms, clean, super staff who were very helpful, cozy bar/lounge and fantastic restaurant. The location was great, a short walk from the old town.
Nothing
Beautiful and charming hotel, clean, excellent breakfast, good location for walking to city centre, car parking 18 Pounds / night.
Small room
Once you exit the hotel gate, you turn left and start walking that beautiful street shaded by gorgoues gigantic trees and lined with old colorful buildings and local bookshops all the way to one of the city wall's entrances. Loved that about the location.
I got a very a small basement room but it was clean and nice for the great price i paid even on short notice.
Wonderful hotel with friendly, helpful staff (as with all my previous visits over the years). Lovely spacious family room with ensuite. Beautiful breakfast room and lovely outdoor seating bar/ pizza restaurant. Would definitely recommend.
Notiong to dislike here!
The location is fantastic
Nothing I didn’t like.
Great staff, lovely decor and outside area!
Far too warm, tiny window in room too!
The location was very good, it was decorated too a high standard loads of attention to detail.
There was nothing I didn’t like.
O estilo do hotel. Proximidade estação de trem. Restaurante.
Quartos muito pequenos. Banheiro pequeno.
Parking was tight and breakfast was far too pricey
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was excellent value and really clean. Can't fault anything.
Great location, beautiful hotel, helpful staff
Location was great
There was no AC, no fridge in room, the windows did not open fully and no fans were provided. No phones to call either. It was very hot and we had a very uncomfortable night.
Love the Churchill stayed there a few times now
We had rooms in the underground area
La habitación no era muy cómoda , mucha escalera Y la primer noche no había agua caliente
I love the hotel fullstop. We've been coming here for over 5 years its a lovely hotel and the staff are amazing. The location even better.
I don't think the prices they charge to stay you should have to pay for car parking. I think also they should give people the option to have something smaller hot for breakfast rather than a full English
A very nice hotel and really well located to central York. Staff were great. Ian on reception was full of information about where to go and what to see etc. We had a ground floor room which suited us. It was a reasonable size with everything we needed supplied. Yes the hotel parking is expensive but it meant we could park up the car for three days and visit York in our own time. Parking in the UK can be very expensive. we paid six UK pounds for just one hour elsewhere so 18 pounds a night/day seems ok to us.
Hotel was amazing and location is great, a short walk to York centre. Staff were so helpful and vouldnt do enough for our stay, definitely going to rebook. Amazing
Hervorragende Lage, hübsch eingerichtete Zimmer in wunderschönem Anwesen.
Very nice property with a beer garden and wood-fired pizza area out front.
A bit pricey.
very frendly staff helpful, knowlageable room was quite got the sun first thing in the morning didnt have breakfast the first day but a champagne breakfast the second day couldn't fault it did like the kitkat instead of the normal custard creams had champagne and chocolates as a surprise for my wife on arrival nice super cooled in a bucket of ice chocs on a cool tray all staff was well dressed (ties) like to say thanks to the waiter who did our breakfast was like haqving your own personal valet very tentive thanks again
being our first time in the Churchill cannot say anything negatve suppose if i thought about it for a year could think of somthing well lets try Mmm no ilked that Errrr no liked that could be possibly NoNo i liked that too sorry couldn't find anything i didn't like
Lovely location, close to city centre, plenty of parking, super room decor and great bar.
Noisy room (111) doors slamming nearby and shower difficult to use !
Excellent location for walking into the town. Very friendly staff. Lovely clean rooms. Thank you for a lovely stay.
It was all lovely.
All the modty comfortable clean
Room was very small for one person in my opinion
Beautiful historic property
Room size
Room and food were good
queit expensive
Location is excellent Staff friendly Beds comfortable
No lift as listed building No AC
Room had little ventilation
Good room standard although no air conditioning. Staff very helpful in changing room and providing a toothbrush!
At first we were offered a room with no windows. This was a surprise but we managed to change from this room.
The hotel was superb as were the gardens
They tried to give me a standard room when I had payed for a more superior room and blamed it on the fact I had used the booking.com app
We visited York this week & stayed at The Churchill Hotel . It’s a fabulous hotel , wonderful location for a short walking into centre of town & to get to the races . Wonderful friendly staff ( big mention & thank you to Ian on reception & to all the team ) . Lovely decor & just a really nice friendly hotel to stay when in York . Highly recommended . Will definitely stay there next time in York .
Location and friendly staff
Very small room , extremely hot
Very friendly and easy going reception staff
Extraction fan in the bathroom want really sufficient
Nice spacious room with copper bathtub and large bed
Constant road noise and people talking loudly both inside and outside. Cheap carpet in the room, not in keeping with the rest of the room. Unnecessary chargeable car parking!
This was our 2nd time to stay at the Churchill Hotel. We like the location and in nice weather the pizzas from the pizza oven in the front garden are hard to beat!
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our meal was very good and my husband enjoyed the vegetarian option very much. Delighted to see a fan in the room as it was very hot! Location was excellent allowing a short walk to the Minster and Shambles.
The room was a little small, but was comfortable and clean. Entrance to the Car Park was tight, and manoeuvring was difficult.
Tea and coffee in room. Shower
Very cramped room
Todo es precioso. Increíble
Nada que pueda decir malo de este lugar
The location is perfect for visiting York
The room did not have a window! Air conditioning was welcome in the heat.
Food awesome, lots to choose from, great service. Staff incredibly helpful. Prince of Wales suite was divine.
Shower pressure could do with a looking at.
The location of this hotel was just perfect with a short walk to the center of the city. The was good parking on site available at a small additional charge. The beer garden was brilliant with ample, bookable seating and a fantastic pizza wagon in addition to the restuarent that served amazing food that could be ordered from the table. The restaurant was great. We ate in on our first evening and I have to be honest in saying it was one of the best meals we have had in a while. Bloody Mary Crayfish Cocktail, Crab Salad, Beef Short Rib and Lamb Rump, fantastic. Breakfast was very good as well although the continental should have included cold meats and cheeses We had a superior double room that was comfortable and well appointed.
Our room was on the lower ground floor (140) and we didn't notice this when booking. I think all superior doubles are on this level. There was just one small window that was at ground level at the side of the hotel. Fortunately it was quiet on that side. We did have a problem in that our room was not serviced on the second day. Apparently it is pointed out to guests that this will not be carried out unless specifically asked for and approval for staff to enter the room is given. This is the first hotel I have stayed at with this ruling and both my wife and I are 100% clear that this was not pointed out on check in. Reception were adamant that it was so we agreed to disagree. The staircase down to the lower ground is narrow and it was difficult, although just manageable for me to navigate with a suitcase. This staircase was the only access to the lower ground that we could see and therefore the only exit if a fire occurs. We didn't raise this but it would be a concern. There is also no phone in the bedroom with direct contact to reception. These concerns did not detract from what was a memorable stay in York but prevented me scoring a maximum.
The hotel was lovely Staff were happy and friendly Location really good.
Just thought breakfast was expensive. Granola was on the main breakfast list at £18. That's the only time ive ever that. But the bacon egg bap was good.
Çalışanların ilgisi ve güler yüzü, konum temizlik ve rahatlık
It was nicely kept
The shower was a little different to operate, but it was ok.
Nice stay. Ambience is lovely and the hotel is very charming. The location is great and everything is within walking distance. Our room was very comfortable and easily accommodated our family of four. Breakfast was quick and delicious. Our only issue was the room temperature. We were on the main floor and the room was very hot, despite having a fan and the windows open, it was is difficult to sleep at night or remain in the room for long during the day. Otherwise, we had a lovely stay.
Die Einrichtung, das Personal, das Ambiente, der Garten, die Lage, das Bett
Wir hatten ein Zimmer unten im "Keller" und dir Decke war etwas niedrig. Das Fenster war oke. Für den Preis in Ordnung.
The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. Along with the decor, they helped to create a friendly and lively atmosphere. The restaurants and outside eating area looked very buzzy and fun, although we didn't eat there.
There was a bit of noise around the bins outside our window but this wasn't a problem at night.
Conforto das camas.
Falta de ar condicionado.
It was quiet and comfortable. Because of the weather obviously the room was very hot but there were 3 fans in the wardrobe and they were very appreciated
Breakfast was pretty disappointing. The fire door at the back was open all day, which I thought was a bit of a security concern. There are no dead bolts on the room doors. Being a woman on my own with 2 kids it worried me.
The location is perfect . 5 min walk to city walls. Great staff …just great value for money .
The small double room is small but ideal for a one night stop over .
We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the bridal suite by the lovely welcoming ladies at reception, what a treat the room was beautiful, very spacious and very very comfortable, the grounds were sensational
There is nothing to dislike about this property, should be a five star
Great location, good size room. Great pancakes at breakfast
No aircon just a fan, room was located near the bins for the kitchen and so alot of noise of glass being tossed into the bins every now and then Shower head needs replacing, parking is expensive considering you've booked a room
Clean, comfortable and a good location. Friendly and helpful staff.
location was great friendly staff great decor in room and food wow
no mini fridge in room for the water provided water was to warm to drink
Very helpful and friendly staff ,lovely rooms and outdoor area ,clean and comfortable throughout. Would highly recommend and stay again
Stay here quite a lot, always have a good experience
Room was really hot and stuffy, opened the window and used the fan provided
Great Location Great room very friendly staff. Didn’t use but the bar and gardens look like they would be fun.
Looks great from the pictures on line
The room was very small and not what it’s like on the property pictures paid £160 for one night would of rather had primer inn
The rooms are fantastic as are the staff and the location!
Parking was tight and food expect breakfast was not the greatest.
The Churchill is a nice "suburb" hotel, located within a 10-15 minute walk from Bootham Bar Gate that leads to York Minster. It feels like a Georgian townhouse street in central London but cooler. From the railway station, the hotel is about 15-20 minutes walk via their suggested route which is part of the Transpennine trail walkway (Scarborough bridge over the river Ouse). Upon arrival, the reception staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Our small double room was clean, well decorated and just enough space. Everything worked as it should do. The history and architecture of the hotel is wonderful. The bar and dining areas are excellent. The woodfired pizzas served here are crispy thin and delicious! We recommend.
We were surprised by the cost of parking and cooked breakfasts, none of this inclusive of the already expensive booking paid for in advance. Such extras amounted to a considerable percentage of the room only rate. At the time of writing, parking was charged at £18 per night and cooked breakfasts were about £19 per morning. As such, we decided to travel by train and we found a great alternative place for breakfast just a little further down the street. We found our room was a little noisy very early one morning on glass refuse collection day. As there is a railway branch line in a cutting nearby, you may hear one or two trains passing through early in the morning, but thankfully not often. Our main concern was the stylish shower in the en-suite bathroom and figuring out how to use it safely. Entirely in matt black finish, neither control knob had any visible markings on it to instruct you as to function or temperature. My partner had a nasty surprise but thankfully wasn't scalded. Once we knew how it worked, it was absolutely fine. We recommend the hotel puts up a simple notice of correct use on the bathroom door to avoid guesswork and accidents.
Beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect visiting York city centre and only minutes from the station..
Staff were very friendly
We thought the cost was steep for what we recieved and also were dissapointed to have to pay for parking in their while we stayed
Si me gustó mucho es muy limpio, cerca de todo y buen desayuno
Las habitaciones pequeñas
Letto comodo, personale gentile
Assenza frigo bar in camera e calorifero attaccato al letto (ti spacchi le caviglie scendendo dal letto, pericoloso per la sicurezza)
Great stay at a lovely hotel spoiled by some lack of attention. Was told I had a reserved parking space - on arrival no reservation. Room left unlocked all day by cleaners.
Last minute booking for a couple of days in York and we weren’t disappointed. Had a Westminster room on ground floor which was nice, not huge but big enough. Staff are very friendly and helpful and food in restaurant was also good. Yes parking is £18 but they did allow us to leave it there on our last morning as well. Special mention to Rhys for the explanation about possible Churchill link and his service in restaurant. Easy walking distance to the minster also. Would definitely stay again.
Great location, a brief walk from the city center and an easy drive in when arriving in a car. Car park by the building, although paid per night. Great breakfast for its price, very happy. Staff were very pleasant!
Very rough mattress, could feel the springs everywhere. The shower screen is too low, meaning when showering you can accidentally end up with a pool of water on the floor.
