breakfast was exceptionally good, with a large choice and the host couldn't do enough for you. parking was excellent

location was a steep climb from the harbour, but that was to be expected.

Clean, comfy, fresh smelling premises with good water pressure in the shower. They carried our heavy bags up the stairs which was helpful. Good value for money.

It's set in a quiet location, so you get a peaceful night's sleep. The room was immaculately clean, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast choice was amazing for a property of this size.

Room was described as having a balcony but didn't, owner got argumentative when I mentioned this and blamed booking.com Been told by booking.com it's the owner that sets the facilities. I left a day early, partly for this reason. They refused to partial refund for the room being not as described.As it is, it was over priced for what the room was. Shame really, I wouldn't go back now and have previously used this place several times with the last owner with no issues.

Quiet, and the bed was really comfortable. Staff were friendly, free parking. 5 min walk down hill to the town, 10min walk back up. I would come back again.

Full English wasn’t the best I have had. No toast, or mushrooms. Sausages had a funny taste. I didn’t understand the bar, get yourself a drink and pay. I would like a bar tender, someone to talk to.

Not the fault of the hotel itself or anything they could do but a couple of the other guests were a little noisy when returning late at night. It was carnival night so probably not normal.

Room very dated (sink not fitting, toilet seat too small, toilet brush dirty, TV wires hanging down too low, light fitting above bed only sensibly operated by person on left and very bright, and, personal taste, toiletries very strong scented)but aware this room update is on hosts list to do. Breakfast on first day, toast not offered or available to do for yourself, breakfast bar poorly stocked, i.e one yogurt, two small pastries, no butter, and this at the start of service as we were the second couple in. Not a fan of the cooked breakfast on first day as sausage and bacon overcooked and sourdough toast not toasted or buttered. When toast and butter asked for, only flora margarine available. Second day much better with more yogurt on offer. We had boiled eggs and but not asked how we would like them so had hard boiled eggs supplied and toast came out a few minutes after eggs were served. Lastly, description stated coffee maker in room along with kettle and selection of tea and coffee, no coffee maker on the room.

Ours was only a brief stop at the end of a road trip. The hotel and location were fantastic. The host made our stay perfect, super friendly and welcoming. We left pretty early to get back home but the host made us a lovely pack up lunch to take on our travels because we couldn’t make breakfast. What a lovely stop at the end of our holiday. Really good value for money.

Fabulous stay at Avoncourt Lodge. Super convenient location. The hotel is spotlessly clean, beds really comfy and atmosphere very relaxing and homely. Extremely dog friendly. The breakfast was the best we’ve had ever. Even abroad. Food cooked to order by an excellent chef. Super tasty and lots of options to cater for all palates. Highly recommend to stay here. New owners just lovely and accommodating.

Comfortable and friendly staff

We had a nice view of the town and hillside from our veranda. Room was small but had everything you needed. Excellent breakfast menu.

At the top of a hill so whenever you went out it was hard work getting back.

The lodge has been updated, and was very pleasant, with spacious new dining area. Plenty of choice offered for breakfast, both cereals and cooked breakfast, jams and a mix of friut drinks Pleasant but small bar, although did not make use of that. The single bedroom was comfy,clean and brightly decorated. Had bath and shower available. Owners and waitress staff very pleasant and helpful. Lodge not too far from town on foot, and not far from local bus stop.

Although comfy and pleasant generally, the particular single bedroom was a little cramped for space, not knowing where to put bags and belongings on the floor. The venetian type blind for the window was bit fiddly to operate and only just shut out light, and a gap underneath the door, let through the landing light outside, opposite the bed.

Bathroom a little tigh

This was our second time at Avoncourt Lodge & the new management have made some great changes (not that we thought there was anything wrong before). The breakfast room has had a wonderful makeover & that also includes the menu. The room has been opened up & has a stunning view over Ilfracombe. The menu offers a great selection to choose from, including vegan & vegetarian options. The food is cooked & presented extremely well. The staff are very friendly & helpful, nothing was too much trouble. There was a genuine interest in what their guest were doing & offered suggestions of things to do locally. I understand there are more changes/upgrades planned & I would have no hesitation in staying again or recommending Avoncourt Lodge to anyone. Thanks to all staff for a wonderful stay.

Lorraine and her staff are to be commended for their courtesy and professionalism. It's a beautifully well run facility. The room wasn't huge but what it lacked in size it made up for in cleanliness and comfort. The breakfasts are really good and freshly cooked to order unlike a lot of bigger places with half warm food from Bain Marie's. Also there is an excellent selection for breakfast and a great range of vegan options as well. We really liked the amount of locally sourced products on the menu. Lorraine really gets what it takes to me a great host and we not only have no hesitation in recommending it but we look forward to returning.

To put something in here would only be nit picking and of no constructive use to anyone.

There were new owners who took over last Christmas. They have decorated to a high standard. They were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were superb. The bed was very comfortable. We had a balcony where we enjoyed sitting to relax and read. There was a lounge downstairs with an honesty bar which we used in the evening mainly on our own. It was very quick to walk into town and we would recommend *the Smugglers” a restaurant with excellent food at a reasonable price.

The room itself was adequate, but small and the en-suite was cramped.

Avoncourt Lodge is tucked away in a quiet and pleasant corner of Ilfracombe. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the breakfast is really good. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Good location, comfortable rooms but what made this place was the hospitality of the staff - immense - from the owners to those cleaning the rooms. All super friendly and willing to go that extra mile - for example we were getting ready for a wedding and they offered to iron our shirts (no charge) whilst we got ready. Great attention to detail and vision from the owners. We would definitely recommend and come back.

The hosts were nice and friendly. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice. Bedding and towels were good and good quality.

Shower over the bath, needs up dating and bath grouting too, tatty. Our room was right near the entrance and stairs and was noisy at times.. Although advertised as dog friendly, there was on one day 4 dogs in the breakfast room, yapping and even barking, not very conducive when eating breakfast. The honesty bar was very expensive, £3.50 for a packet of crisps. Location was up a hill and you needed to be quite fit to walk into town and harbour.

The situation is perfect for views across Ilfracombe towards the sea. Our room had a balcony too. Honesty bar meant we could have a relaxing drink after an evening walk, at the hotel in the garden. The staff were lovely, the owner was was always around and super friendly! The breakfast was cook to order and included in the reasonable price! On the top of a hill overlooking Ilfracombe the location was perfect.

The bed was tiny, my husbands feet hung over the edge. The sink was in the bedroom, which was awkward. The bedroom was really tiny so I could barely fit my case. There were pubes in the shower. The walls were paper thin so I could hear the bedroom next door.

Great B&B in the heart of Ilfracombe.Set on a hillside location close to the quay and town centre. Possibly a 10 minute walk to both. I had a room with a balcony with a fantastic view of Ilfracombe. TV, tea making facilities, comfortable bed and ensuite.Staff are friendly and helpful. There's reserved free carparking at the front of the B&B. Breakfast is good and served with a smile. Highly recommended.

Die Unterkunft liegt etwas über der Stadt und ist ruhig gelegen. Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen. Unser Zimmer hatte einen Balkon mit Sicht über den Ort. Das Zentrum ist gut zu Fuss erreichbar. Das Frühstück war auch sehr gut. Wir würden wieder dort übernachten.

Wonderful place to stay. Really good location, easy reach of the town centre and harbour. Near some gorgeous coast walks too. Avoncourt is clean and tidy. Our room had a balcony which was wonderful. Comfortable bed and a good shower. The dining room was new and beautifully decorated. Outstanding breakfast on both mornings. We would definitely recommend Avoncourt to others. The host is so friendly and helpful too.

It would have been a nice touch had there been a breakfast menu. The guests were asked what they would like, but they didnt have a menu to see what was on offer, without a menu the guests had no idea what to order. I found the coffee very strong and bitter, a nice cafetiere would add a nice touch.
