Provider-sourced guest reviews.
This was a great stay in a perfect location. Lovely room with a sea view, with everything you would need for a three night stay. The cooked breakfast was excellent, and the hosts Margaret and Martin were superb.
We were met with a really warm greeting from our hosts. They really made our stay, very knowledgeable about the local area and couldn't do enough to help. We had a good choice for breakfast which was freshly cooked and delicious. We stayed in Cozy Cove which is a lovely little double room with a fabulous view of the bay. Lots of thoughtful little touches like usb sockets, lots of plugs and coathangers. Everywhere was spotless and very homely. We did see previous reviews about the bathroom being small. It's not massive but it is really fresh looking and we didn't have any issues at all (and we're not skinny). Excellent location and parking on site. We'd definitely come back.
The Borthalan Hotel was amazing from the friendly and extremely helpful owners to the beautiful facilities and view. The owners provided all that we needed to get into St Ives and to walk around the local Carbis Bay Area - this made the visit that much more enjoyable. There is plenty of parking if you are driving to the Borthalan - which was a huge plus. The Breakfast was absolutely wonderful and they met all of my wife’s gluten allergy needs. We will absolutely visit again.
Our stay was great and our hosts Martin and Margaret were superb.Borthalan Hotel was very comfortable, clean and quiet. The breakfasts were fabulous and we would definitely like to stay there again.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Borthalan Hotel. Room was lovely, comfy bed, with a great shower in bathroom. Area was quiet with great walks to beach and St.Ives. Train station close by if you dont feel like walking. Breakfast was superb and our hosts Margaret and Martin were perfect. Hoping to return very soon.
Exceptional hospitality and stay! One of the best B&Bs ever! Very clean, comfy bed, soft linen..loved the large shower in our room and the sea view! Great location with a short walk to the beach and the train station. Martin & Margaret's hospitality and welcome made our stay even more special! The house and gardens are beautiful and so well kept and maintained! We will definitely be visiting again!
The rooms were very clean and cosy ,lovely big bathroom and good sea views. The hosts were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. A lovely cooked to order breakfast was served each morning . Property was in a quiet road close to train station, bus stop and a short walk to Carbis bay.Truly wonderful stay. Many thanks , Janet and Richard.
Easter weekend away, Thursday to Monday. It was a fantastic stay with great hosts. Nothing was too much trouble, and breakfast was terrific. Location perfect train into St Ives 3 min walk, or you could walk into st Ives around 20 min a nice walk as well
The hosts were very knowledgeable about the area and gave very good feedback on local areas of interest and good restaurants
Really good hosts very good relaxing break enjoyed all aspects the stay very good
I don’t often leave reviews which is an indicator of how good this was. The weather and company was excellent which is always going to help but this is a great place to stay. Run like clock work- clean, great location, good facilities throughout, excellent shower and breakfast and hosts who make you feel at home and care for your every need. I would certainly return and recommend to friends and family.
Fabulous hosts with excellent breakfast in a great location
Margaret and Martin are lovely people who made us feel more than welcome. Our room had a wonderful sea view and was well equipped. I would say that Hotels.com has titiled the Borthalan as a hotel but I personally think it is a B&B - but a lovely one.
Spotlessly clean top class room excellent breakfast Hosts were attentive and helpful Free parking which is always a bonus would definitely stay there again.Highly highly recommend
Lovely place and lovely people made us feel at home amazing 🙏
I had the most delightful stay at Borthalan Hotel, Margaret and Martin made me most welcome, it was very peaceful and restful. I was really surprised the lovely breakfasts were included, somehow I missed that. My room was really lovely, I felt quite at home ,all I needed was there. The transport system is amazing, not expesive and reliable. Definitely recommend a stay there.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Borthalon House. Martin and Margaret were wonderful hosts. They were so friendly and engaging and willing to help in any way they could. Margaret cooked an excellent hot breakfast each morning. Would definitely recommend.
Friendly & Clean but not suitable for visitors with a mobility problem
Very good adress, large Breakfast choice, location is good although in a very build up area it is close to the beach and beautiful sea side walks. We enjoyed the sea view from our room and tea and coffee provided.
Lovely hotel everything was perfect. Could not do enough to make us more welcome. Excellent room with lovely views and a great breakfast with lots of choice. Highly recommended.
Lovely guest house, v friendly owners and great views/location . Booked to attend wedding at carbis bay hotel, vfm this was far better!!!’
Very comfortable, clean and friendly establishment. Beautiful sea view from rooms 5 & 7. I don’t know about orhers Good hearty full English breakfast. Excellent service. Very close to carbis bay station and it’s only £1 to get into ST Ives (05/07/22). I liked it here a lot and intend to stay again.
The hosts, Martin and Margaret are the nicest of people, friendly, and nothing is too much. Room was comfortable and clean. Would stay there again.
On arrival it was explained that rooms would not be serviced as we were only there 3 days. We were only left one 20ml tube of shower gel & shampoo for 2 for 3 days. The bathroom was very small and had no natural light. Breakfast was good and cooked to order
We had a lovely 4 night stay at Borthalan House. A beautiful house in a stunning location, ideally situated between St Ives and Hayle. The hosts were absolutely charming. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend and would love to return in future.
Great hosts and location. Room was nice and clean with a lovely sea view. Would definitely recommend!
Great location, very clean, perfect for walking into St Ives, very friendly, fab breakfast 😁
We have stayed at this hotel before and as before had a great time. Excellent breakfast with friendly service, nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are very comfortable and clean with all facilities. Once again can fully recommend this hotel
Excellent position, sea view from bedroom. Friendly, delightful and attentive hosts. Lovely breakfast.
Very high standard of cleanning. 10of 10! Love it!
Lovely owners, breakfast was Greta and the hotel is in a great location. The view from our room was gorgeous.
Stayed here for the October half term with my wife and I could not fault our stay. Hosts went out of their way to ensure we were happy and had everything we needed. Breakfast was exquisite and the room with a sea view was absolutely gorgeous. Incredibly pleased with our stay, the hotel is not far from anything and the hosts knowledge of the area and suggestions of all the hidden little gems (cafe’s, art shops etc) was extra helpful. Definitely would recommend. You won’t be disappointed.
A wonderfully amazing stay the couple that run it are so lovely welcome you like family and the food was excellent .. cant wait to stay again
We loved our stay, the room was clean and comfortable with the most amazing shower! Martin and Margaret with such lovely hosts and made us feel so welcome and completely safe in these strange times. The hotel is a short walk from Carbis Bay shops, restaurants and beach. It is also a 2 minute walk from Carbis Bay Train station where you can go straight to St. Ives in a matter of minutes. Highly recommend!!
Wonderful hotel & fab hosts!! Great breakfast & comfortable accommodation Easy but hilly walk to carbis bay & access to train station
Our hosts were absolutely fantastic. Very welcoming. the rooms were spotless, the shower was powerful and the beds extremely comfortable. The breakfast was also delicious.
Friendly hosts who spent time ensuring everything was ok. Great room, good breakfast, car park, good location to visit the area. Close to the railway station with little noise. The main thing is they care, offer advice for days out etc.
Very helpful and friendly hosts, who made us feel welcome from the moment we rang the doorbell!
Family run small hotel, 10mins from beach with local places to eat or near train station for st ives /Hayle
We had a lovely 4 night stay at the Borthalan Hotel. The location was perfect, as soon as we arrived we were greeted with a breathtaking sea view and although we didn't pay for a sea view there was a wonderful view out the front with some chairs & table. The train station was a 2 min walk and we caught this into St Ives a few times which was a 4min journey for £1. We also walked it some days it was about 30-40 mins but a beautiful coastal walk. I will say there are lots of hills which were tough on day one but I was used to them by the end of the trip but the train option is great when you just want to get back. Our bedroom had an en suite bathroom, tea and coffee facilities and a TV. It was perfect for us as we were out all day and was nice to watch a little TV whilst unwinding before falling asleep. Our beds/towels were not changed during our 4 night stay because of Covid but this didn't bother us at all as was such a short stay. The cooked breakfast was delicious. Due to Covid we had to pre-book a slot which was OK for us but a little bit of an inconvenience if you want to be up and out early. The hosts were lovely. Very Friendly and welcoming and let us know where they were if we needed them so it was nice to come and go at our own leisure. This was our first trip away during Covid and we felt very safe. There was hand gel at the door. The communal living room was closed off and breakfast times scattered so we weren't all there at once. I would visit here again
We had an absolutely comfortable and relaxing stay. The area was accessible and had parking. It was close to the train station to St. Ives and further down the hill is Carbis bay beach. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was good. The owners are really friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back and stay!
Really loved our stay. The property is so convenient to St Ives via train and coastal walk. Also less than 5 minutes from Carbis Bay beach. Also Martin and Margaret are so welcoming and friendly. And also full of advise of places to go etc. Really recommend. Dont hesitate booking.
Guesthouse was lovely, well hosted by Martin and Margaret. Warm welcome upon arrival and nice farewell on departure too which gives the stay the overall personal feel. We were given the room on top floor with excellent sea view room was lovely too every last touch added to make it homely. Close to St Ives harbour we got the train in and left our car at the guesthouse which was a really good idea, suggested by Martin. Carbis bay station was a 5 minute walk and trains run every 30 minutes! Breakfast in the morning was lovely too we filled in the breakfast form the night before and was served that in the morning. Overall lovely stay will be going back, definitely recommend it.
Amazing see view, which really made our stay and the owner was really lovely. Room was really poorly decorated for the price we paid.
The place is amazing, a view to the sea from windows is fantastic, lovely personal touches. Very clean just an awesome place. Breakfast was great! Would recommend to all!
The place is amazing, view from windows to the sea is fantastic, lovely personal touches. Very clean just an awesome place. Would recommend to all! Breakfast was very delicious !
Lovely hotel, very clean and comfortable. Owners friendly and helpful nothing too much trouble. Great breakfast with good choice all freshly cooked. Within walking distance of a beautiful beach
Great B&B. Lovely room, clean, large and great bathroom. The couple running it are very helpful and friendly. Great location near train station for easy access into St Ives. Lovely breakfast. Would definitely recommend.
Love the location. Love Carbis Bay. Margaret and Martin were excellent hosts and went out of their way to help if we needed anything. Including finding a dinner reservation for us when we had given up. Lovely breakfast and service.
We had a lovely stay at the Borthalan Hotel. Margaret and Martin were wonderful hosts who made us feel at home. They were extremely helpful and cooked a great breakfast each morning with lots of options to chose from. The view of carbis bay was beautiful and our room was perfect - with a very large shower and en suite! Would absolutely recommend
Amazing views from a small but perfectly clean, comfortable and quaint room. Excellent service and friendly, helpful hosts. Very enjoyable stay - thank you.
We had a very enjoyable stay. Margaret and Martin were very hospitable. There were appropriate arrangements to manage COVID. E.g staggered breakfast times, masks worn by B&B owners, social distancing adhered to, hand sanitiser upon entry. Location is perfect and just outside of st ives so you can escape the business. But can get to the centre of St Ives by a beautiful 30/40 minute costal walk or three minute by train (B&B 3 min walk from station). Would definitely recommend and would stay again
We received a warm welcome on arrival and shown to our room which was lovely and had the perfect view of Carbis Bay. Hotel is well situated with a short walk to the Bay. Would recommend.
Lovely spot on Carbis Bay with lovely sea view. Clean and welcoming rooms. More of a B&B though than hotel. Good value for money too. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Brilliant location for both Carbis bay and St Ives. Easy access to cliff walks. Has amazing garden to watch sunset from Wonderful hosts.
Had the most fantastic time in Cornwall, made very special by the hospitality of Martin & Margaret at Borthalan House. Could not have asked for better hosts who were very helpful at every opportunity, cooked a great breakfast and were even thoughtful enough to give us some aloe Vera for my burnt shoulders. Would highly recommend Borthalan House - a great location, great place with a special charm made by great people.
When we arrived at the location we were warmly welcomed by Margaret and Martin who run the place. They are two very friendly people who made our stay there very welcoming. The view of Carbis bay is amazing from the front garden. We found our room nice and cozy. Breakfast was served on time and it amazed my wife and I that they both run the whole thing by themselves. St Ives is quite hilly but the exercise is good for you. Carbis bay beach is only a 10 minute walk from where we stayed.
Very friendly hosts. Comfortable room. Great location for getting bus or train to explore the area
Lovely place, very clean, good food and friendly staff would go again 😊
Clearness and disponibilty by the owner. ................................................................................
Excellent location and sea view. Close to station and beach, I could hear the owls and the sea as i fell asleep
Owners were very friendly. Had to use a cup to fill the kettle as it wouldnt fit under the tap and situation of plugs in the room were not easily accessible
Really friendly staff who couldn’t do enough to help us. Great breakfast. Quite a small bedroom and Ensuite but amazing views.
A lovley last minute booking we was pleasantly surprised with the room ,view and big ensuite
The photo shows the establishment as in spacious grounds whereas it is in such a built up area that it was hard to find. The room was the smallest I have ever encountered measuring perhaps 11 ft x 11ft with the ensuite included in this size. The en-suite was very tiny. The bed was comfortable and the room clean.
It is obvious from the moment Martin and Margaret greet you that they are passionate about the hotel, and it shows throughout. The rooms are newly decorated and cared for. The breakfast was amazing with a good selection. We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay and would highly recommend the hotel. Many thanks
Excellent hotel and close to the beach. Not within walking distance to the town centre but good access with a train station located nearby. Clean hotel and good breakfast.
We can not fault Borthalan Hotel an the slightest. Everything was perfect.
Lovely stay lovely people.
Very warm and friendly staff Lovely breakfast that was served on time I would definitely recommend it to family and friends
Loved the spacious rooms. Amazing shower - nice and hot/cold perfect for however you like your shower. Rooms were a good temperature. Beautiful views. Calming decore. Didn't like that they didn't refill tea/sugar/milk on daily basis. Breakfast options limited. Floors very thin, wardrobes rattles with every step. Easy access to local amenities. Would stay again.
We had a fantastic 4 nights here.Martin and Margaret were such lovely hosts. The rooms were spotless, the breakfast was lovely. It feels like we have made two new friends. Thank you both for making us feel so comfortable
breakfast to late.
We have stayed here before. A lovely welcoming couple who provide comfortable and spotlessly clean rooms and a substantial breakfast in the morning. We returned for a second visit because our first stay was faultless. We shall be returning again in the autumn. A perfect setting and excellent service. We shall always stay here whenever we return to Carbis Bay. Station is only five minutes walk from the B&B with a regular shuttle train service between St Erth and St Ives calling at Carbis a Bay.
Just stayed for one night, bed springs dug in my back, new beds required.... nice breakfast, staff and good shower
We really enjoyed our stay. The people were very friendly and the hotel was nice and clean and suited our needs. It was much more reasonably priced than other hotels in the area. There was a short train trip into St Ives from nearby the hotel which was good.
Hotel was close to the beach & train station. The room overlooked the sea. There was a coastal path to St Ives which took approx 35 minutes to walk but was very pleasant, 5 minutes by train. If you walk back late it is dark along the path.
Property clean and tidy, owners were very welcoming. Excellent breakfast.
The bedroom was very disappointing. The shower was impossible to use. Far too small. Otherwise great views, friendly owners and great location.
Very clean, within walking distance of shop anad beautiful beach. Also train station nearby . The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and imformative about nearby places to visit.
Great location. Lovely hosts. Good value for money.
The owners/staff were so friendly and went above and beyond to ensure you had everything you needed.
I so disappointed not to get a sea view room as it was a main reason I picked this over other hotels in the area. The room was okay, but cold when I arrived on a wet evening and I was surprised to find the heating turned off in the room. It would have been nice to have a warm room to arrive to. There was no freah milk offered and no water in the room, which is fairly standard now. I was also surprised I be told cooked breakfast doesn’t start until 9.00am. As I was on a walking trip this was later than I would have liked, but was nice when served up. The fruit selection for breakfast was good. There is a nice pub a short walk towards St Ives called The Cornish Arms, which wasn’t mentioned when I asked about good local places to eat. I had a good meal at a reasonable price there.
Friendly family run B&B. Delicious hot breakfast and a great service. Nothing was too much trouble. Great view from our room. Very close to St Ives either on foot or by train, with the station just five minutes walk from the accommodation. Will definitely be returning.
Lovely stay, hosts very welcoming. Very clean, great breakfast.
Lovely location I expect the rooms over the bay would suit honeymooners but being an angler my room was fine. Excellent landlord friendly and helpful only had one breakfast but it was tasty with quality ingredients. Decorated to a high standard and very clean rooms. Open bar to help yourself. Parking a little difficult but at least it was free probably what made my booking.
My fiancé and I just got back after the Easter break. We had the attic room it was lovely. Thanks to Martin and Margret, very nice people that go the extra mile. We even got an Easter egg on Easter Sunday 😀
Martin and Margaret were very friendly and welcoming from the minute we arrived. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them, from making us feel at home, to telling us about the local sights and amenities. The house had a fresh and clean appearance and a cosy atmosphere. Would recommend and I would stay again
Great little hotel in a fantastic location and amazing hosts. Would definitely recommend
had a lovely 4day stay, our room overlooked the bay, lovely walk down to beach, parking good harty breakfast. Martin helpful with the bags and advice about the area, unfortunately it rained for most of the time but it was a pleasant and convenient stay. Very convenient to supermarket and restaurants, and easy access to the main roads to explore Cornwall
Very helpful owner Loved walking along coast trail to St.Ives, and taking the train back.
The owner.s of the hotel made us feel very welcome
Nice hotel, really friendly staff. Rooms are spacious and functional albeit in need for a refurbishment. Cooked breakfasts are freshly prepared and decent. Our only gripe were the beds. Not comfortable at all. Otherwise enjoyed our stay.
B&B is dated but clean with friendly owner. Attic room was small and en-suite cramped. Bed was comfortable but standard size. Choice of cereals, fruit and standard cooked english breakfast components - no other choices. A bit disconcerting to see owner's partner sitting on loo with door open doing a crossword!
The room is tiny, the bathroom even smaller. It seems more like 2 star than 4 star due to a lack of amenities and a tiny space. It needs updating a lot and is a train ride into st Ives rather than a walk. A disappointing stay!
Lovely B&B in a great location, close to the beautiful beach at Carbis Bay. The train station is a 5 minute walk away so you can travel back and forth to St. Ives with ease. Martin, the owner, went out of his way to make us feel welcome and was always very attentive. Great breakfast too! We'd highly recommend The Borthalan!
Nice location and staff, with a decent breakfast. But the top floor rooms with seaview were absolutely cramped and even charged at a premium. I even accidentally bumped my head on the roof pillar in the bathroom - my fault as there were warning signs.
This hotel is within easy walking distance of the train station just one stop from st ives. It is ideal as parking is difficult in the town and much more expensive than the return train fair. The hotel is friendly and clean and the breakfast is delicious. You can come and go as you please and the host is very friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and recommend this hotel.
Very enjoyable stay, lovely location, great host and delicious breakfast.
Friendly welcome and service. Great location for beach and trains. Fab breakfast. Would use Borthalan again.
