We stayed at the Hilltop Inn, Salmon Arm and I will never stay there again. The beds were so bad I couldn't sleep and neither could my son nor his wife. The beds are only doubles and in most places today they are queens. Went and bought an air mattress and put it on the floor so one of us could sleep the second night. Tried even sleeping across the bed but it still hurt my back. Wrecked our weekend there. In the bathroom there is no place to put soap or anything in the shower except the floor and I have trouble getting to the floor so never showered. We had reservations for 3 and they only gave us towels for 2. Their pool does look nice but because off lack of sleep and an extremely sore back and things we needed to attend, did not use it. The AC unit was very loud even on low setting so it was almost impossible to sleep because of the noise. I will say that it worked well, it was just too loud and probably could do with replacing. Oh, I will say that the one lady I spoke with at the front desk, she was very nice. My son signed us out and when they asked how our stay was and he tried to tell them they did not seem interested. Do not ask if you truly do not care. It is more money than a much nicer place we stayed at when we were in Salmon Arm two months earlier and that place also gave us free breakfast. The Hilltop does not give you breakfast. Unfortunately when we tried to book at the first place for this stay they had no vacancies.
The Hotel was booked by our tour operator. The rooms were clean and spacious. Although we requested for King bed, we were given two queen beds. The outdoor pool looked very good, however we did not go for a swim. There is no restaurants to have dinner within quick walking distance from the hotle and the restaurant at the Hotel is closed. Have dinner in town before you check into the hotel as it is about 15-20 minutes walk from the Hotel. Rooms were well equipped with Coffee machine, and toiletries. Overall good value for money and for a one night stop over.
Positive: Bed was comfortable and A/C worked great. Negative: Room was filthy. Bathroom was so bad that the tiles on floor were cracked, pulling up and missing grout because when you used the shower the water just spilled over and surrounded the toilet. Had to throw all towels on the floor just to soak it up so I could get out of the bathroom. Went to use fridge and spilt food looked like an ant hill was forming under the door.
We arrived about 20 minutes before the 4:00PM check in. The clerk asked for our credit cared and ID and then we were told we could not check in until 4:00PM. we were told to go wait somewhere until then. There is no compassion for long distance travelers. Coming back, we were again asked for a credit card and ID! Then there is a $50.00 deposit for the key cards! We have stayed at a lot of hotels but never had this issue before. No big deal really except it takes them a long time to credit it back. Our room was fair except the mattress was old and hard as a rock. We both woke up stiff and sore the next morning. We were on the second floor in the two story next to the main building. No elevator for heavy luggage. No ice machine or services of any kind. One had to go to the main building on the second floor for ice!! And then a sign is posted not to take too much 'cause the machine would have to work hard. Never coming back here again. A good night sleep was not possible and there is no service and no breakfast.
The pool was the only saving grace of this property. The room and furnishings were dated, and the bed was uncomfortable. In the evening if the window was open the truck traffic outside was too loud for sleeping, and with the window closed the AC was so loud it felt like a truck was in the room. Apparently we were in the “old wing”… and it definitely showed.
The pool area is fabulous. Like you are at a resort. 2 hotubs one upstairs ( where we were staying) was nice for a late night soak.
Very convenient
Clean room; pleasant staff
Staff were friendly, pool was very clean.
Good stay. Nousy if staying on the highway side.
We only stayed one night and it suited our needs. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't open on the evening we arrived. But its a pleasant stay.
The room we were originally booked into was absolutely horrible, the floor was rotten in the bathroom, to the point i nearly fell through. The cleanliness was out the window, big stain on the floor, the smell was so bad and the fridge was left with previous items. One call to the dest and they upgraded us to the "new building " and it was much better. Super clean, nice and quite, and made the stay much better
Ive stayed at Hotels and Hostels the world over and have to say this is one of the worst experiences we have ever had. Starting with checking in 4-5 young adults standing around chatting and looked at us like we ruined there afternoon very rude. The pool was advertised as a great spot. The Water in both the pool and hottub was so dirty you could barely see the bottom. Hair, bugs dirt and who knows what else. The room was barely cleaned and you could smell and see the dust and filth. For the price they charge they should be ashamed of themsleves. Ive stayed in old Motels that look like 4 star resorts compared to this property.
I have stayed at this hotel several times and this was the first time that i found that my room carpet was dirty. The hotel is now really old and probably requires a renovations. My bed was especially not very comfy even though everything else was great. The outdoor pool is always fun and is the best thing about the hotel. The restaurant has now been sold and breakfast is no longer included which his sad as they used to have a great breakfast.
Plenty of parking. The hot tub was nice after we'd been on a long hike the previous day Unfortunately on the evening we arrived the hotel restaurant was not open (it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) so we had to walk into the town for dinner and the route is not great on foot
We stayed here for one night on our way to the kootenays and it did the trick. Friendly front desk staff got us checked in/out quickly and plenty of parking. The rooms were nothing fancy (a bit dated) but absolutely did the trick. Didn't have a chance to check out the pools but they looked impressive.
room had vertical blinds with several section missing hard to keep exterior lighting out and views inside the room Had shoddy repairs to the wall behind the pool side door havent seen double bed in a hotel room in years
The thing I remember most is there was a balcony off the room that overlooked a long arm of the nice pool. There was a hot tub on the second floor where we stayed There was a restaurant attatched to the facility that was quite good You could walk under the highway down to the cool old wharf. The place was close to everything in Salmon Arm
So nice having the little kitchenette in the unit
The room was not comfortable
Staff was pleasant . Pool was lovely after a long drive . Unfortunately room was dirty especially the bathroom , loose dirty floor tiles .
Clean room, quiet, nice pool and hot tub
It was fine, clean and efficient. A/C was very noisy and couldn't be on for long
All in
Beautiful hotel and pool area. Comfortable beds.
We stay here often but this time wasn’t good. We got a room (123) with a constant banging sound coming from within the wall it was all day and all night long. The corners in this room has never cleaned and the toilet paper holder was hanging off the wall.
It’s an older property but is comfortable enough. The pool and garden areas are lovely. Rooms are showing age but the price is reasonable.
The comforter and the sheets were not washed properly.
Great !!
Beautiful property
Quite Frankly, awful experience. We booked using expedia and upon check in, we were told we were staying in a different building as apparently we got a cheaper room through expedia. (it cost us 175 for one night and that is not something I would say is cheap.
Beautiful spot to stay, comfortable and safe- only disappointment was there is no longer breakfast included!
Clean
Great place. Value for the quality
While this hotel is in a great location and the grounds are great our room was just okay. The room was in desperate need of a thorough cleaning and repair. The bathroom in particular was grubby and the shower had mould all around the base. The vertical blinds were missing pieces on each end. The beds were old and one sheet had a hole in it. The room itself was fairly clean but it wasn’t cleaned or supplied with clean towels over our three day stay even after we left a sign on the door. Can’t say I’d stay there again
The pool area is amazing!! So well kept, the gardens and cleanliness, top notch!
Pool
The pool area was fantastic. Very relaxing and a lovely view from my room.
Amazing stay once again. Staff so nice and accommodating Great little retreat and pool feels like a resort. Mostly adults…and quiet… which is my favourite part. I hope it stays that way :)
Pool was great Roos are well kept only issue is our fridge died during the night
Love the vibe here, a wee noisy at night due to location but we love it here. The pictures shown is exactly as it is.
We decided to spend a night in Salmon Arm and came across the Hilltop just off the highway.the surroundings and yard are beautiful as well as the pool area. The room was clean, the beds are comfortable and nice large updated bathroom. They rest of the room could use some updating ( furniture and remove carpet) The balcony was nice to look over the pool and enjoy our morning coffee. Friendly staff.
Very dirty
The pool is great. Warm. Huge. Fun for kids. Kind of lazy river. Restaurant fork seasons had amazing fusion food.
.
Very nice place love the pool.
We stayed two days in Salmon Arm on a holiday and loved this hotel! The room was spacious, a little older than I expected but very quiet room and had the sound of sprinkling water outside (the water feature on the pool). The pool was huge, with satellite hot tubs on the next building. Too bad the highway noise made it bothersome during the day. The beds were good, the place was clean and it had all the basics we could want - and they don't gouge tourists like so many other places. The restaurant - Fork Seasons - was EXCEPTIONAL! We had lunch one day and dinner there the 2nd day. Outstanding authentic Singapore food - the hotel is lucky to have such a gourmet restaurant as part of its services. We will definitely stay here again next time we come through.
Room was dated, but loved the pool would stay there again
The pool was amazing as always. The room was ok the beds were just awful, didn’t sleep all for the 2 days we were there. Beds are super hard and the wood base the are on squeaks like crazy every time you move. The saving grace was we brought our own fan that helped with noise and moving air though-out the room. We had a musty smell and had to kill a few beatles that found their way into our bathroom. We were in room 120. I would definitely not recommend this room. We wanted to be on the ground floor for the pool but would recommend staying in the main building not the other one. It felt more like a motel than a Hotel. Room definitely needs some upgrades. It’s kind of sad because have loved our other trips to this Hotel.
Amazing pool and outdoor area. We have come three years in a row with our grandkids, this year the staff is very diligent with pool hours, which is fine, but they didn't really care in the past. And now they are quite angry about enforcing the pool hours and they are literally to the MINUTE, I saw 2 people get kicked out because they were 2 minutes and 1 minute early to swim. It was a bit silly. Not sure if we'll come back for the 4th year.
Bugs in bathroom, limited parking, beautiful outdoor pool
The pool was very nice and definitely appreciated the hot tub. Room was just okay considering the cost. A little out dated and the bed was not very comfortable.
Great outdoor pool area
The beds are not comfortable .
All good
First time staying here and we loved it! We will be back again! Great location and we loved the outdoor pool!
Despite a minor problem, which was resolved to our saisfaction, our stay was great. Staff were friendly, professional and very helpful.
The hotel and staff were great. 5 stars for them, 1 star for Expedia
Hotel was clean, check in simple, room was good, pool was lovely after a long drive, restaurant in hotel is definitely worth a visit, excellent food.
While the pool is an attractive feature, the rooms could use updating. The hotel restaurant had the worst Japanese food ever!
Very friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms and very comfortable beds.
All is well
The staff was very friendly both in the hotel at the desk and in the restaurant. The room was dated and
Beautiful pool to relax in
This place needs a renovation, the rooms are not clean but it isn’t the staff effort just the age of the building and furnishing. Staff and pool are great.
This property has seen better days and is not well kept. The ironing board was hanging off the wall by one screw, the door seal was ripped and hanging off, the mirror was fastened to wall at a crooked angle, the floor in the bathroom had broken tiles and grout where I'm pretty positive water was getting under as the floor was flexing as you walked on it, the fan was barely attached to the roof, there were multiple places where big paint chips were gone off the walls, the sheets was ripped and stained, plus numerous stains on the floor. Do yourself a favour and stay at the new hotel across the street for the same price!
Hotel was clean and comfortable. Pool was amazing!! One thing to note the restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays which means there is no complimentary breakfast. This would've been good to know at time of booking. Overall though we'd stay again if we're back in the area
Loved the gardens and outdoor pool
Great family friendly spot, conveniently located, quiet and the pool was amazing!
Great Experience
Clean, easy checkin, comfortable beds, nice view, good service. Used to be breakfast included but new owners, now Fork Seasons restaurant. Breakfast very reasonable and good menu, but service slow. The pool is beautiful!
The pool is beautiful two hot tubs most rooms look out at pool
Property was fine for a night. Pool was beautiful. But walk ways to hot tubs and around the rooms entrances are covered in spider webs. Dead spindes. And live ones. Clean up the property a bit would be a major recommendation for me. Otherwise stay in the pool and you'll be fine.
We always love our stay at this hotel. The pool and hottub are a great feature. The gentleman at the front desk was so nice and extremely helpful!
Loved the pool and hot tub area is so beautiful with trees plants water feature
We stayed here before, so we had an expectation to follow. The pillows were AWFUL. The bed was so soft that two people rolled to the middle the entire night. The carpet was DISGUSTING. The parking lot was pitch black. There was no option to change rooms when we checked in at 4pm. The rate is higher than the value. Overall it was a place to sleep midway between our destinations. And not nearly as well kept as it used to be.
Great place to stay, kids enjoyed the pool and it was a nice hidden gem off the side of the highway. Would definitely stay again.
The pool was a great little oasis. The air conditioners kept the room cool but were extremely noisy. No dining options on Sunday or Monday
The Hill Top Inn was amazing! We stayed in the pool side room and my teenager children called it a mini oasis. We loved that we could go into the pool from our room..I also was impressed with how clean the room was and friendly the staff were. The only downfall was the sink in the bathroom was tiny and not confident to keep our toiletries for easy access. Other than that we found the hotel amazing and cannot wait to stay there again!
Great hotel. The pool was awesome. Would go back for sure !
My fav place to go
I arrived a bit before check in time and the lady behind the desk was very unfriendly. I understand if early check out isn’t available but I don’t need a lecture on the ‘rules’. When I came back to check in at the appropriate time there was a different employee at the desk who was very friendly. The website show a restaurant but I t’s only for breakfast and not open Monday or Tuesday.
This was our second time staying at Hilltop. Our room was in the back building on the upper floor. This building was quieter than the main building located closer to the highway where we stayed the first time. The restaurant was not open for breakfast on the Monday morning but we were prepared in case breakfast wasn't available. The bed was comfortable. It's not far from downtown, but being beside a highway we drove to places we wanted to see rather than walking. The people working at the front desk were very helpful.
Nice hotel and friendly staff. Lots of spiders though
Good place. Nice staff.
Decent room
Lovely pool- best outdoor hotel pool ever - and 2 EV chargers makes this a great place to stay.
This is a great family friendly location with an incredible resort style pool. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Furniture was a bit dated but that did not affect our stay. Pool hours are 9 am to 10 pm. Highly recommend and would come here again!
Nice quiet location. Kids loved the pool!
Fun place to stay!
Pool and yard is beautiful
The pool was freezing cold and the hot tub was not working for our stay. This was the sole reason we wanted to stay here was for the lovely pool but it was too cold for us to swim. Kids enjoyed it briefly. Would have been nice to know that the heater was not functioning and some kind of discount
The only nice things about this property is the pool. The rooms are not good.
The pool
Pool area beautiful. Rooms terrible, bathroom shower, tiles warn, unclean. Paint chipped in many areas, water stains on ceiling plentiful and gross.
Comfy beds and convenient location
Loved the pool area , disappointed the restaurant wasn’t open when we were there
The beds were very comfortable. It would be nicer if bedskirts were placed over the boxspring though. It looks kind of trashy without them. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed Sunday and Monday which is odd for the high summer season. Thus we could not try and or rate the food. Great internet and transport access. It looked like the walls had been recently painted but care wasn’t take to prevent dripping g onto the baseboards which are a different colour. So poor quality of painting in that regard.
Pool was good, staff was working hard but the place needs a bit of lipstick.
The outdoor pool area is by far the highlight of this property — beautiful, tropical, and resort-like — but even it is in need of some repairs. There was tile falling off the hot tub, and the water level was low. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn’t match the scenery. We stayed in Room 120 in a separate building, and the room itself was very disappointing. The bathroom was dirty, there were cobwebs in the room, and the overall space felt old and in need of a serious renovation. Staff were friendly in the couple of brief interactions we had. We didn’t eat at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the food. We only stayed for one night, and while the pool was lovely, the room condition means we wouldn’t choose to stay here again. If you’re booking here, be prepared for a great pool but very poor room conditions.
