The whole stay was exceptional
La localisa et sa tradition son histoire

What to say? For me it’s the best hotel in Japan. The combination of history, location, and service is unbeatable.

Hotel was soooooo clean despite of it’s long history. I was so impressed.
The picture of the room was different with the actual room that I stayed.
The traditional Japanese feel
Nothing easily accessible walking wise
I liked the hotel, the gardens and the locations.
The hotel is old and needs some maintainance improvements. for example the light in our room was so white that looked like I was at a hospital.

Lovely, beautiful and exceptional experience at Fujiya
We loved everything about this hotel.
Incroyable hôtel, tout est somptueux. Service impeccable. Un must see au Japon.

Prachtige vergane glorie. Mooi oud gebouw.
The staff was exceptional in every respect. Polite, helpful and friendly. The facilities practical and spotless. Very nice onsen spa.
Outdoor pool seemed closed much of the time. Not sure why.
Endroit magique
The hotel, itself is a museum with a wonderful japanese garden.
We were in 4 people (2 adults + 2 children) and unfortunately we had to stay in 2 different rooms.
Its rich history
The front desk staff during check-out was rude. I left my room at 11am, the check-out time, and went to the reception to ask them to collect my luggage and store it while I had lunch. An hour later, I returned to the front desk to pay my bill and was met with rudeness. “My hotel check-out time is at 11,” he told me straight away. Confused, I explained that I had left the room at 11 and nothing was left inside. However, he refused to listen and seemed to be in a hurry. It appeared there was an internal miscommunication but I don’t understand why I, a guest, should be treated this way (especially in a supposed to be 5-star hotel).

The Fujiya Hotel is a truly unique and historic property with an atmosphere reminiscent of The Grand Budapest Hotel:) Staying here feels like stepping back in time, and the beautiful architecture and gardens make it a memorable experience. The location is great for exploring the area, and the onsen was absolutely outstanding - one of the highlights of our stay. The traditional Japanese breakfast was amazing - the best I have ever had. One member of staff was especially kind and gave us excellent recommendations for the area. We also appreciated the convenient shuttle service and the beautiful view from our room.
The hotel has a charming old-world character, although some areas would benefit from refurbishment and modernization. The indoor swimming pool feels rather dated, and we were disappointed that the outdoor pool was closed without prior notice. We also found the Western breakfast less impressive than the Japanese one. While the service was always professional, some interactions felt a little formal and less warm than we had experienced elsewhere in Japan.
Wonderful experience at the Fujiya Hotel. The buildings are charming, the staff are lovely and our room was well appointed, comfortable and clean. The gardens are lovely and the mountain views from the onsen are spectacular
The club sandwich was expensive but very average
Pretty much everything!
Beds were like a floor board. They even remade mine with extra padding but it was still extremely hard.
It is a classic hotel with outstanding design. Everything is extremely well-maintained. The level of service matched the elegant buildings and surrounding garden. I would like to mention a few of the people with whom I had interactions: Ms. Hagikura: patiently changed my room when I had an issue with my allergies. She went above and beyond to personally show me alternate accommodations in different parts of the hotel. She truly made me feel welcome. She is a great asset to the organization. Ms. Tamura: welcomed me back in the evening and was there again in the morning to welcome me. It doesn’t seem like she actually slept and the incredible thing is that she had the best smile no matter what time of day or night I passed through the lobby. Ms. Isozaki: I work in the food and beverage industry and I could not find any fault with the breakfast service (unfortunately, one of my habits). One of the best breakfast experiences of my life. Ms. Sato (at the front desk): give me expert advice about things to do and where to go. In many hotels when you ask someone for advice or information, they have to check with someone else or need to refer to something. It would seem that at this hotel everyone is trained to answer questions without this sort of assistance. Ms. Sato was extremely well prepared and patient.
I can’t think of anything
Spectacular hotel. Amazing garden.
Hermosas y cómodas habitaciones. Un onsen maravilloso.
Gorgeous gardens and cascades. The onsen was a treat. Could easily spend a month drawing this hotel.
Breakfast closes early for jet lagged travelers .
The staff was wonderful! The rooms a spacious and comfortable. We wished we had booked a longer stay because it is a beautiful hotel with a rich history.
Good choice of western breakfast.
Hotel’s front desk unwillingness to book reservations at restaurants outside the hotel. Also noticed their lack of interest in booking dinner reservations at restaurants within the property. They always came up with an excuse that all restaurants were full!
Incredible hotel and grounds. I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere in Hakone. Such a beautiful piece of history with it’s own museum, and story about each wing of the hotel. The staff were very polite and helpful. Loved the onsen in the hotel and the room with the forest view.
Limited areas to eat around the hotel if you don’t choose the expensive hotel restaurants. You just have to be a bit organised and book places.
Alles
Er valt niks over aan te merken. Geen negatieve punten
Grand old hotel with traditional Japanese baths and high quality restaurants.
Expensive compared to other places we stayed.
An old historic hotel, beautiful with great onsen facilities. Rooms are huge and it’s like being transported back in time very interesting loved it
Restaurants at the hotel are very expensive and in my opinion not worth the money (we ate here once) There are very few alternative places to eat
This hotel is exceptional. Extremely well managed with the most polite and respectful staff. The hotel has a beautiful calm atmosphere with first class restaurants. We stayed for two nights on a tour of Japan and we wish we could have stayed longer but alas we had to move on to Kyoto. The room was amazing, quiet, imacculately clean with comfortable beds. The Japanese gardens in the hotel grounds are well maintained and provide a great view from the rooms. We plan to revisit on our next Japan trip and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to experience the best of Japanese hospitality in the most peaceful and beautiful setting.
Elegance
I can’t think of anything.
Un hotel ciertamente exclusivo
El onsen y la habitacion
The size and history of the hotel. Also the staff were amazing, helpful and accommodating- they helped me plan my day when the forcast was rainy, they are aware which bus stops are closed etc. I felt like a VIP with the way I was treated!
You travel here for this hotel. It is iconic. More than a hint of Wes Anderson about it. Everything has been considered. We stayed in the Flower Palace. Each room is after a different flower and the stationary, artwork, rug, everything, is particular to the flower. The onsen and spa area overlook the mountains. They are luxurious. It is easily accessible by bus from the Shinkansen train station. Its a windy 30min on the bus but very scenic. The same bus line also takes you to the lake and other sites around Hakone. We had dinner and breakfast and these were exceptional experiences, particularly breakfast. The hotel is surrounded by a beautiful garden which takes 20-30min to walk around and is lovely just to sit in and experience. Our stay at this hotel was a highlight of our 2 week holiday.
I hadn't understood that Hakone is more of a region than a town, so hotels are scattered throughout. There isn't much else around Fujiya hotel although if you want to look at other things, taking the bus to them is very easy. Staff were perhaps more used to people who drove, or were not interested in other areas so did not have a lot of advice/ guidance on how to get to these other places by bus or even to suggest where to go. This is not a criticism, just something to be aware of.
The hotel and property was beautiful and quiet. A lovely respite during our busy two weeks visiting Japan.
Beautiful area. Beautiful premises. Beautiful garden. Could probably do with a bit of fresh air to look less frozen in time, but very good place altogether.
Some of the staff are terrible, in particular the male front desk managers we had to suffer repeatedly. No idea of hospitality whatsoever. Live in their own world. Dreadful behaviour: unfriendly; unwelcoming; aggressive; borderline racist in behaviour; trying to find problems instead of solutions; all in all behaving as if he is the king of a castle and clients are his inferiors lucky to be there. The absolute type of bad behaved people who kill otherwise good hotels!
Condições e qualidade do hotel
It was just beautiful
We had to wait in the reception area for about 20 minutes for breakfast instead of going straight into the restaurant when we could see spare tables.
The property and history was gorgeous.

Authentic and classic, traditional Japanese experience. Onsen on forest wing of hotel was incredible (no bathing suits or clothes allowed though!) but it’s very respectful and peaceful in hotel. Beautiful tranquil gardens and views. It was a relaxing couple days. We also visited the hot springs called yukassun nearby where bathing suits are allowed. Dinner in hotel was outstanding. Staff attentive and kind . Wonderful reset between toyko and Kyoto.
Rooms in forest wing were spacious clean and up to date. Beds so comfortable. Love the duvet blankets! Love the mountain views and the rooms. The lounge with coffee and drink bar were a bonus.
This hotel is absolutely phenomenal. It is beautiful, and surrounded by nature. It is the perfect place to relax. The rooms are comfortable and have anything a guest might need. The onsen is also very good.
It's just amazing - beautiful place to stay next to Hakone
The hotel is an absolute gem , so much history. The rooms are large and all amenities are available.
Unable to book into the restaurant for dinner which was disappointing. We then went and ate in the bar , which was ok . After dinner when we went to look at the restaurant there were tables available. Slightly perplexed by this .
Spacious rooms, great service by trainee who showed us to room and explained about facilities.
The hotel is beautiful with excellent rooms and a beautiful ONSEN. We really enjoyed our stay. Is very well located and confortable
Nothing
An old traditional hotel which is a monument in its own right. Large rooms. Three restaurants available on the premises. Traditional swimming pool and quite modern onsen. Very attentive staff.

Hotel was beautiful and historical. Very clean and room was comfortable. The Japanese restaurant is amazing and so authentic. It’s the only restaurant we fully enjoyed and service was great there.
The restaurants in the hotel need to be prebooked if you want to have dinner even the main Cascade restaurant. There are not too many options around the hotel to eat outside. During the week places are closed and on weekend everything is fully booked. Dinner in the hotel is finishing very early, last sitting is at 7.30pm. Staff in the restaurants doesn’t speak English. In Fudji restaurent they couldn’t accommodate the requests beyond the menu (even I just asked for broccoli for a child which my husband had with his steak so it was available). Some of the menu items translated wrong into English. We ordered spaghetti with tomato sauce from kids menu for my child and it came with seafood, ham and mushrooms. Next day when we went to Cascade restaurant I didn’t get my main course so needed to reorder and wait while my family was eating. The service is slow with delivery and with clearing the table, empty plates will be staying in front of you even the next course is there so need to find spaces to move them. Water sometimes was not offered or replenished. Dessert took 15 minutes to be delivered
Verzorgde kamer met mooie onsen. Mooi smaakvol ontbijt.
Beautiful location, helpful staff, large room, comfy bed.
Bathtub could be deeper, larger.
I had stayed at the Fujiya Hotel a long time ago, before the big reform, and was pleased to see that, while it is now more modern and comfortable, it has managed to keep many of the original features and atmosphere. It is a beautiful grand hotel. We particularly enjoyed visiting the museum and the garden. The hot spring is beautiful! The staff is impeccably polite and efficient.
Unfortunately, one small detail at dinner left a bad impression of service: we had a booking and were at the Cascade restaurant for dinner at 7. We had our starters, and immediately after our main courses had been served, the waitress came to the table with the menus and said: "Last orders, could you please order the desserts?" What?!? Why? It was just past 8 p.m., and we had just started enjoying our main courses! Why did she have to rush us in such a rude manner? Fortunately, my overseas visitor was very gracious about it, but we all felt rather uncomfortable. It's a 5-star hotel, not a fast food joint, and we would have really appreciated having a more relaxed dinner.
Beautiful hotel with excellent facilities. Treated like royalty. Onsen was amazing.
Further away from main tourist sites than I realised. The evening meal we were moved into a smaller room due to a function taking place in the main restaurant.
Location was wonderful with beautiful gardens and Onsen.
Nothing.
