Hakone Gora KARAKU

The staff were so very friendly. Almost everything in the hotel was complimentary to our booking. The food was great, the rooms were so clean and luxurious. The private onsen on the balcony and the booked spa treatment really helped us relax after travelling. The provided clothing was another really nice touch.

During our one night stay, there was nothing that we did not like.

Fin dal nostro arrivo siamo stati accolti da un personale di una professionalità e una gentilezza davvero rare. Tutti si sono dimostrati estremamente cordiali, attenti e disponibili a soddisfare ogni nostra esigenza, sempre con discrezione e con un sorriso. È proprio questa autentica attenzione all’ospite che rende il Gora Karaku una struttura speciale. Un episodio, in particolare, ci ha fatto capire quanto sia concreta la loro attenzione al cliente. Durante il viaggio avevamo dimenticato sul treno una borsa contenente acquisti tax free. Lo staff del Gora Karaku si è immediatamente attivato, contattando il personale dello Shinkansen e seguendo la situazione fino al ritrovamento della borsa. Ci hanno poi informati tempestivamente, dimostrando una disponibilità e una cura che abbiamo davvero apprezzato e che non dimenticheremo. Anche l’esperienza gastronomica è stata all’altezza delle aspettative. La cena Kaiseki è stata eccellente, con piatti raffinati, ingredienti di qualità e una presentazione curata in ogni dettaglio. Abbiamo inoltre adorato la possibilità di trovare nella hall, durante la giornata, un’ampia scelta di snack dolci e salati e bevande gratuite, un’attenzione che rende gli spazi comuni ancora più piacevoli e accoglienti. Il Gora Karaku non è semplicemente un bellissimo ryokan: è un luogo in cui si percepisce una vera cultura dell’ospitalità giapponese, fatta di cura, rispetto, discrezione e attenzione ai piccoli dettagli. Un soggiorno che rimarrà tra i ricordi più belli del nostro viaggio in Giappone. Se dovessimo tornare ad Hakone, non avremmo alcun dubbio: sceglieremmo nuovamente il Gora Karaku. Ps: le foto su Booking rendono poco L eccezionalità del posto e delle stanze. Assolutamente 10/10. Un’esperienza che consiglio senza la minima esitazione.

I love Sushi but even for me it was really challenging. It’s beautiful hotel with nice service but a bit too pricey. Could reduce 10-15%. But maybe that’s why it’s so seclusive.

Esperienza da dimenticare . Sono arrivato con un pò di anticipo dall’orario del check in quindi il personale mi ha invitato ad accomodarmi e aspettare fin qui tutto ok. Dopo di me sono arrivate molte persone che come me dovevano fare check in . Dopo circa un ora di attesa tutte le persone che erano arrivate dopo avevano avuto la stanza tranne io questo a mezz’ora dall’orario regolare del check in ( mi avevano assicurato di anticipare il check in di mezz’ora ) . Alle 15 ho reclamato la stanza in virtù del fatto che fosse l’orario della prontezza della camera e mi hanno detto che la stanza non era ancora pronta e dovevo aspettare alche ho preteso con fermezza la stanza così che tutto d’un colpo guarda caso la stanza era pronta . Nessuno dello staff si è scusato ed ha cercato qualche gesto di cortesia per scusarsi di quanto accaduto. Non è finita qui… Arrivati in camera ci siamo accorti che la pulizia della camera era alquanto scarsa . Dulcis in fundo la colazione… Tutto alla carta senza possibilità di cambiare nulla! Ps: Il colpo di grazia è arrivato dopo 4 ore dal check out hanno avuto il coraggio di mandarmi un mess per dirmi che mi avrebbero addebitato il costo di una bottiglia d’acqua (1,5€) 😂 che loro avevano dimenticato di mettere nel conto. Queste cose in un hotel che prende la media di 600€ a notte non dovrebbero capitare!

Beautiful setting, with fantastic facilities and food on offer. The dinner and breakfast each day was a particular highlight for us. Top quality produce, immaculate cooking, and lovely, friendly and talented staff.

We (two men) were traveling with our daughters - 5 year old and 8 month old so booked the private onsen for us to experience together which we had to pay for. In circumstances like this i would have expected ‘private family onsens’ be included as part of the hotel price.

Wow..... where do I start? The Hakone Gora KARAKU was one of the highlights of our first visit to Japan. Everything from the location, the staff, lounge, restaurants, onsen, and room amenities was perfection! The hotel is beautiful, serene and intimate. It is the type of hotel that you should definitely spend a day just hanging out and relaxing. They provide kimonos, yukatas and slippers to all the guests and everyone wears them inside the hotel -- including the restaurants. We loved it! Hardly needed to unpack our bags! We took advantage of the lovely spa treatments and had facials and massage. The onsen is heavenly and we also had a private outdoor onsen. The hotel is only about a quick stroll from the sweet town of Gora and its' petite train station. We dream of returning! Highly recommend!

Everything was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. The hotel exceeded all our expectations. The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and professional, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The room was beautiful, spotless, and very comfortable, with stunning surroundings that made our stay even more special. The restaurant food was very good, but it was also very traditional, with no alternative options available. It's something worth knowing in advance. If you don't like raw fish or traditional Japanese cuisine, I would not recommend eating at the hotel's restaurant.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we got a wonderful experience with the staff the accomodation and the food. We had dinner and breakfast included with our room booking we ate everynight at the hotel twice at the tepenyaki restaurant and another time at the traditional japanese restaurant both times exceeding our expections food wise and staff wise. We spent 3 nights at this hotel with activities during the day and relaxation at the onsen in the evening. The clothes we were given (3 sets of traditional clothes) were experience

I really enjoyed my stay. The staff were warm, friendly, and attentive throughout my visit. They were always willing to help and made me feel welcome. Their excellent service made my stay comfortable and enjoyable. Excellent food! Every dish was exceptionally fresh, delicious, and full of flavor. Absolutely stunning property! We felt pampered and were treated like royalty. The rooms are outstanding! The views from the balcony onsen are breathtaking. Beautifully furnished and with very upgraded toiletries. The free drinks and snacks are superb. Everything, from the lovely kimonos and yukatas to the fabulous, traditional Japanese dinner was phenomenal. The whole experience is that of a tranquil oasis. Best hotel we've had the pleasure to stay in during or Japan adventure. Such a memorable experience for our family.

We had a wonderful stay as a family of four, including two teenagers. The hotel is just a short walk from Gora Station, and check-in was quick and easy. The staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive throughout our stay. Their customer service was outstanding and made us feel very welcome. We booked a room with a private onsen, which was fantastic. The room was spotless, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed, including toiletries, a coffee maker, complimentary water, and juice. The bed was on the firmer side, which was perfect for us. We also enjoyed the guest lounge with complimentary snacks and drinks. The half-board package was excellent, featuring a delicious Japanese multi-course dinner and a choice of Japanese or Western breakfast. Both the private and public onsens were wonderful, and the mountain views were absolutely spectacular. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Hakone!

We have tattoos and couldn't use any of the communal spa areas. Breakfast and dinner are a set menu and doesn't change day to day - but the food is incredible! Just plan accordingly.

The view from our room on the 4th floor was beautiful. The location is excellent, walking distance to the Gora station, The Hakone Open air museum and the Hakone Gora Park

We were given a room on the 1st floor with NO view. We complained, so they upgraded us but we had to pay an extra $50 which we felt was a very cheap move from a customer service perspective, given we were paying over $1000/night. We had paid fpr 1/2 board but over 70% of the food, despite choosing the Western style meal for breakfast was non-edible. very sophisticated and beautifully presented but VERY Japanese. The hotel has beautiful interior design but there are barely any outdoor spaces to sit down, relax and enjoy the views. The onsen baths are both indoors and don't have much of an open view either. If I had to go to Hakone again, which I loved, I would choose a hotel with more open spaces and a food buffet that you can choose from that would include some Japanese and non-Japanese food dishes. You have to pick your exact breakfast and dinner times upon arrival giving you very little flexibility with your waking time and day plans. Booking.com should refund us the $50 for the room upgrade (same room but in a higher floor).

Beautiful hotel, I would visit Hakone again just to stay here. Great snacks and drinks at the lounge. Amazing location, wonderful amenities.

Karaku is an extremely fresh and modern feeling hotel located in the heart of Hakone. It's easy to see that it was built with the idea of catering to more global clients, which we welcomed enthusiastically. The highlight for me were the public and private baths. All of them had amenities that I had never seen in any of the more traditional onsens I've visited, such as a standing shower, dry sauna, and steam room. These only amplified the enjoyment of the already sparkling clean and new facilities. If you're traveling to Hakone to enjoy an onsen, then I would highly recommend Karaku!

The check-in took a bit longer than we're used to (maybe 10-15 minutes), but that's only because we arrived by shuttle provided for free by the hotel with a large group, so we can't complain too much!

We had the set menu at tue Grill restaurant. It was basically 100g of sirloin, a bit of salad and a mediocre dessert. Would have given the hotel a better score but feel ripped off for paying around SUD $200 which amounted to a snack. Also ate at Itous at Nobu in Gora. Was twice the amount of food for considerably less money as twice as good.

Every aspect of our stay was exceptional. When we arrived by shuttle, staff were waiting to greet us outside. They escorted us to the check in desk, where check in was simple, and we were given a thorough tour of our room. We loved the happy hours, so many options for drinks and food at different times of the day. The breakfast options were awesome - both the Japanese style and western style breakfasts were beautiful and well put together. The location of the property was great, not too far from the train station, secluded enough that it felt private, but still very accessible to other parts of the town. The property itself was absolutely stunning, serene, and the perfect place for my husband and I to unwind after a busy trip to other parts of Japan. We were in awe constantly of how intentional and well kept every single corner of the hotel was. Getting to start and end each day sitting in our private onsen on the balcony, looking out into the mountains and listening to the beautiful sounds of the environment was a surreal, relaxing experience we will truly never forget. We are already planning our next visit and we very much look forward to returning.

The breakfast was horrible. When I checked in they asked about food preferences and sensitivities and despite that continue to give me breakfastS that were contrary to what I had notified them, resulting in me just eating bread and soup for breakfast.

The food could have been better and should have been for the price I was paying. Also we had to move our own luggage to the room yet we saw them bring the luggage for all other customers up for them. We felt like second class citizens. I’m not sure if it was racist because we were American or because we purchased our room through booking.com.

Очень уютный, эстетичный, комфортный отель. Понравились горячие ванны, она есть персональная в номере на балконе, общественная на крыше под открытым небом. И можно арендовать индивидуальную, они расположены на первом этаже с выходом на улицу (рекомендую). Мы попробовали все варианты) В отеле есть бар, где можно находиться до 20.00 без оплаты. Очень много разнообразных напитков. В ресторане вкусно!

Views and comfort was exceptional. Loved top class food, service and facilities and at the same time no need to dress and instead wore everywhere the hotel provided loose pants and top. Comfort snd ease.

Forte do hotel são os serviços de SPA, porém no momento que chagamos já estava tudo reservado, sem possibilidade de conhecermos os serviço. Isto foi extremamente desagradável tendo em vista, deslocamento para chegar na região, preço da hospedagem e etc. Se a reversa precisa ser feita com antecedência isto precisaria ser dito no momento da reserva. Outro ponto é que o hotel poderia bloquear alguns horário justamente para atender hóspedes que não tenham feito esta reserva.

Sehr grosse Zimmer, der private Onsen auf der Terrasse war ein absolutes Highlight. So schön, im heissen Wasser sich zu entspannen, ins Grün zu blicken, einfach himmlisch. Das Kaiseiki war das Beste, das ich je gegessen habe. Die Lounge, wo man sich mit Getränken und Snacks bedienen konnte war auch toll.

Zu starke Aircondition in der Lounge. Sonst war alles grossartig.

It was prepared well. Some of the items were more traditional Japanese, however, that was to be expected.

We picked the international breakfast, so maybe some basic items like pancakes, eggs and fruits.

Set breakfast with limited items is a disappointment. Public outdoor onsen look boring with no surrounding plants and look like Swimming pool . Dinner is too expensive so has to skip and walk 5 mins to a Yakitori restaurant.

The property was informed prior to our arrival that we were coming with children. Upon arrival they showed us the additional charge for children that we agreed to pay. After a couple of hours the staff came back with a different amount saying they had made a mistake previously. We paid either way but it was an odd experience to go through at such a hotel.
