Breakfast was lovely but we felt sorry for the poor waiter - he was amazing but run off his feet. Very apologetic but we could tell he was too busy
More staff at breakfast
The hotel is beautiful and the staff are lovely. I was worried as my room was at the front of the building, that the train would keep me up but I'm a light sleeper and I slept through it all which was fantastic.
No complaints or feedback.
The granola at breakfast was amazing Everyone was so friendly The vibe was cosy but kind urban punk
Room was a bit on the small size for 2 people
The elevator is over 100 years old.
Rooms are really small
The hotel was really a lovely aesthetic experience, rather than just a place to sleep. We really enjoyed being there! The abundant art is very cool and the design of the room is great. (The bed was incredibly comfortable, too.) The location is wonderful—we walked just about everywhere. We also appreciated the billiard table on our floor, as well as the balcony one flight down.
I liked it all! One thing I'll mention for other travelers: there is a beautiful vintage elevator that requires an elevator operator, which is usually one of the people at the front desk. This was kind of part of the whole experience, and usually just takes a moment, or you can walk up the stairs. But if you just want to press a button and not talk to anyone when you come in, you should probably be aware.
I like the location and beautiful building. They've maintained the charm of the older building. Loved the elevator, which is manually operated. Staff was also very friendly.
In the rooms facing the street, the street noise can be very loud at night.
Heerlijke kamer, fijne mensen, leuke buurt
location, access to public transportation
Noise from street during our time the ground floor rooms were unavailable to hotel guests because they had been hired our for wedding / other events
Old charm!
Parking, rooms a little small
It's a beautiful building and the decoration was well done.
Cassette, the hotel restaurant, held a karaoke night with a live band that night. There's no sound insulation, and it was very loud in our room until 12am. We were on the third floor, so it must have been even worse a floor below. Also, there was a billiard table in the lounge on our floor which we could also hear in the middle of the night. We got very little sleep which is unacceptable for any hotel, much less one that bills itself as a luxury hotel with a price tag to match.
The buildings 'old' vibe and the wonderful lift! Tram (streetcar) so city centre stops outside hotel.
Noise of the kitchen?? Extractor fan all night
Très bel hôtel. Chambre très agréable Accès direct aux transports
Stylish and relaxed. Good location and amazing original lift-!! Ali made us feel especially welcome in the dining room (cassettes)
Gladstone is a beautiful, historical building in an absolutely perfect location. Being able to step out the door and onto a tram was awesome, but the location was also immensely walkable. Queen St West is a vibrant and neat area with lots of shops and restaurants, and so close to other cool neighbourhoods with a lot of culture. The bed was super comfy, the layout of the rooms was lovely, and I really liked that the shampoo was non-scented. It was also a neat touch to have little communal hangout spots on each of the floors.
I did read reviews before staying and saw that some folks commented on it being loud on the weekends, so I was prepared for this. However I will just reiterate: they had karaoke at their downstairs bar/restaurant until 1am Saturday night, and it was LOUD. We were on the third floor and I could barely get to sleep because the bass was reverberating through my pillow. I don't think this is a critique of the hotel per say - it is an old building and sound travels, and it's nice that they have an eventful atmosphere. But it is definitely something to be aware of if you aren't planning to go out on Saturday night.
Location was fantastic on Queens West
We booked a king corner which was at the front of the building. It was incredibly noisy and I’d recommend booking a room at the back. There was also a wedding in the Saturday and the noise from guest in the early hours of the morning, say midnight - 4/5am was dreadful and inconsiderate.
great place very stylish super location
Lovely stylish hotel. Rooms quite small but very nicely done Great dinner at cassette staff friendly Fab location on hip queen west
We weren't sure what to expect after reading some of the reviews, but were delighted with our stay at Gladstone House. Our room was clean and bright, with a really functional sitting area with a love seat, coffee table and tv. The room had a mini-fridge and a coffee maker, lots of hanging space and nice touches like a steamer instead of an iron. The sink is in the bedroom, with a separate WC/shower, but it was worked fine. The windows are not very soundproof, so you do hear street noise, but we found the room fan and our white noise app effectively blocked the sound and we slept very soundly. The hotel has nice common areas with areas for sitting and a pool table. The decor is fun and funky. We had a couple of meals in the restaurant and both very good -- I'm still thinking about their breakfast sandwich, which was one of the best I've ever had. The area around the hotel is decent, with lots of restaurants and coffee shops. The Queen Street streetcar is right outside the door and it's about a 10 min walk to Liberty Village.
Location, comfy bed
Cost, small room
Beautiful old building snd location
Overall the room was stylish, but not comfortable. I didnt enjoy it - there was no enjoyment with coming back to relax or nap after long days sight seeing or bad sleep night before.. Here's a summary: The noisy air ventilation system running through the corridors. I asked to be moved because i could hear it inside my bedroom. This was on top of the noisy air con system in the bedroom, which i had to turn off at night. The staff were very helpful with finding a different room. The windows aren't sound proofed, the noise of constant sirens outside, as well as the tram (streetcar). I didn't have a full nights sleep the full duration of my stay. The rooms are very sparsly furnished. My room was a good size, beautiful comfy bed. Sadly no chair in the room, which it could accomodate. A lovely sink area was in the room, which was fine - however a small ledge to put toiletries on would be helpful. No where to sit down for 10 minutes - theres a small coffee machine. A long rectangular box about 2 feet , with opening underneath, with leather padding i assume is the seat. However this is under the tv, quite big and heavy, so the only seating option was the bed.
Spacious comfortable light-filled room with a gorgeous bath. Vegan unscented bathroom products which I loved. The staff were absolutely delightful and very helpful and the food was good. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that there was a gym, which I wasn’t expecting at all. A boutique hotel in an area with loads of restaurants & bars. Easy to get to the centre of Toronto by tram.
Nothing.
Lovely building facilities and room in a great location, what more do you want
Nothing
House keeping did a wonderful job.
Staff were so miserable and such poor customer service the first half of the week, thankfully it improved. But basic hello and good morning cant be that hard. Good in the bar. Breakfast was awful, overcooked eggs, sausages that tasted like vinegar and burnt potatoes . There is no safe in the room, we rearrangement the room so the coffee potnwasnt sitting under the open wardrobe.
Lots of character! The artwork added a lot of interest!
Nicely renovated. Efficient use of space.
Beautiful place.
Coat was high
Comfortable bed and clean room. Great location.
No privacy as the huge windows look out on the street unless you close the curtains which makes the room dark. Both nights the bars were closed before 10pm for a drink and that was one of the main reasons i stayed there as the bars looked fun. Not good value.
I stayed at Gladstone House for one night. The hotel was fine for a short stay, but it wasn’t really my style. The pink décor, neon touches and overall quirky vibe felt a bit too much for my taste. I also found the lift quite unusual and it added to the feeling that this wasn’t the type of hotel I would normally choose. Room ok but again too pink. The surrounding area was also disappointing. It didn’t feel particularly clean or appealing, with a lot of graffiti and a general lack of upkeep, which affected the overall impression. That said, it was perfectly acceptable for one night and served its purpose, but I personally wouldn’t choose it for a longer stay.
Great location and bar
Beautiful hotel, and a lovely clean room! The whole hotel has such a fun and bright aesthetic and the staff were lovely. We will definitely be back!
Slight downfalls were that we didn’t realize our hotel room didn’t have a fridge, and the elevator is staff operated so we often had to wait a little while for someone to be able to access it
Good location for attending sports events. I slept okay in Queen St facing rooms, but I used ear plugs. Historic building, nice renovation, okay staff. Good neighborhood for restaurants and trendy nightlife. Stayed during a very busy period in Toronto. Rate was fair for that time. When looking at prices, keep in mind that this is a mid-range hotel in terms of level of luxury.
Traditional old building - the loft was charming. Great location…
On the expensive side without any real perks! Products were basic (no lovely smellies!)
beautiful room, excellent bed, bathroom was fantastic
street noise, yelling outside (unavoidable!)
I liked that it was central to where we needed to be. We were there for a show and it was only a 5 minute walk to our venue. The elevator was very cool!!! Wow!
The price was very high, and if you want a late check out it’s 40$. For the price you pay if you want a late check out it should be allowed. When we asked for a late check out they said it was good to go, and then called us the next morning at 11:30 asking if we needed help with our bags… I know that’s the kind way to ask people to get out of the room, but we were suppose to be allowed to leave at noon.
Ystävällinen henkilökunta, oma ravintola, rauhallinen huone
I stay at the Gladstone frequently as hq is in Toronto for my company. I am on the road almost every week. I enjoy staying at the hotel as it is a home away from home, room is cozy and modern, each floor has a fun space, the restaurant has excellent food and coffee, and it is close to everything in Toronto. Hands down - the staff are what makes the experience. Friendly, helpful, willing to accomodate a request at any time. It really is more like an experience rather than a place to sleep.
Very nicely renovated classic hotel. Excellent beds. Super nice staff. A bit far from the central parts, but the local neighborhood is very nice with many good bars and restaurants. The hotel have a helpful leaflet with recommendations. The wine bar Piquette on Queen Street is fantastic! :)
-
It is central
We did not sleep the whole night as the windows are not double glazed and since we are on the Main Street. The hotel is historic and nice to visit but we are in year 2026 the minimum thing to do is to upgrade the windows to double glazed instead of hearing everything on the street as if is inside your room. You can imagine the noise of tram, cars, ambulance, garbage camions passing by all night as if they are inside the room.
Beautifully renovated old building with some quirky historic features. Very handy to public transportation. Staff was exceptional. Very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was very good.
The staff were all so kind
Location was perfect
There was no place to put suit cases, had to have them in the floor. No coffee or creamer
Really appreciated the coffee maker in room. Staff was friendly & hotel was very secure. I would definitely stay again.
Very fun place, clean and nice people
Beautiful!! The staff was anaz
Everything was gorgeous
Decor
No fridge in room
Proximité des activités choisies Bel immeuble
Great location for that area of Toronto. Hotel has a cool vibe and the room was really modern and open. Staff where friendly. Parking was nice but a little confusing make sure to watch the video on the hotels FAQ page to find it.
Noise from traffic was a significant issue. I was on the 2nd floor and I was awake most of the night even with ear plugs in due to the noise from traffic, especially the street car/bus which must run 24 hours and passed by the window to my room all night long. Although this was the only issue I encountered it changed the entire experience of my stay.
Coffee station. Pool table.
Room was very small, the staff were young and a bit scattered. Nowhere to put clothes. Seem to going for a neon light vibe which I would l like less for when it comes to going to sleep. Paid $375 per night. Did not seem premium to me. The neighborhood is noisy not much privacy from neighbors except whem blind is fully shut (could do with some in between). No breakfast or anything included. I get that prices of hotels have gone up a lot but it did not feel like a great deal for me. I was brought in for a work venture and they would like to have put me up somewhere that felt elevated. I will let them know about my experience. Oh it said full studio to myself but what ibgot was a room that just about fits a queen bed and barely room to walk around it and not much else.
Great location, clean rooms, friendly staff
room was small, next to the road and could hear every street car
It is an amazing historic building and very attractive. I especially enjoyed the flavors of the past combined with a modern touch and look. I absolutely love the building! And parking is available close by and can be arranged through the hotel which is a plus as well the beds are comfortable and there is a historic elevator you will not want to miss!
Everything was perfect!
Great location and very cool atmosphere
The noise from the air conditioning unit kept me up most of the Night. They could use double pain windows
Vibe, location, bar, restaurant, service.
Parking a little tricky but staff was very helpful to get you sorted.
No space for parking for check in
Great location for what I needed - to be near my daughter who is a student at UofT and living in the area.
No breakfast-included option with booking. Beautiful old elevator, but it also made things a bit cumbersome. It worked ok.
Very friendly staff. Beautiful room and facilities. Great cocktails.
The room was very noisy from a local bar and the fan in the room was noisy but drowned out the bar noise a bit when it was on. We were told the next day that we could have asked to change rooms or get some relief from the noise. Will know that for next time.
Location. Ambiance.Staff. Cool antique elevator.
Street noise from Queen street. Single pane windows.
Hotel had a nice feel, clean and fresh. Excellent location with trolley car passing by.
Stay here! This is a beautifully renovated building in the perfect location in a great part of town, with a really cool, relaxing atmosphere. Fantastic, friendly service and welcoming staff. We loved the breakfasts and dinner and happy hour drinks in cassette. Really enjoyed the pool table on the 3rd floor. Comfortable bed, great shower and perfectly sized rooms with all the amenities you could need for your stay. We did not want to leave! If we’re ever back in Toronto we would definitely come back, and would recommend to everyone!
This did not ruin our stay but there was a noise outside our room (air con or something) that was relentlessly loud during the night and if we hadn’t had ear plugs I think we would have struggled to sleep. However, the guests with us who stayed in an other room had absolutely no issues with sound at all, despite being in a front facing room, a perfect stay.
Beautifully designed hotel with some fun features (love that cage-style elevator!) My room had plenty of space and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel's location in the west of the city works well if you plan to commute to the airport by taxi. You can walk to nearby restaurants and cafes. Finally, the hotel also sits on a streetcar line, making it easy to explore other parts of the city.
I experienced no problems during my stay.
Very fun place to stay. Super trendy and in a great neighborhood. Very friendly staff!
Rooms were very small. Sink outside the bathroom was kind of inconvenient.
Gorgeous hotel! Great location, not obvious parking with the hotel but they did offer when I checked in. Small rooms but beautifully laid out and comfy
Parking is a joke and you have to walk in and out of the garage by walking through a section that’s says vehicles only and has no side walk. The lobby is nice but once you get to your room you find out it hasn’t been properly cleaned, there is hair in the shower and in the sink. Once we did clean up the room ourselves, I took a shower and the whole bathroom was flooded because the drain is in between the glass and the toilet. The caulk in the bathroom was peeling and discolored and looked like a toddler applied it. The view from the room shows nothing but garbage and random objects thrown on the roof. No iron in room but they will provide a disgusting steamer that hasn’t been cleaned in who knows long. If you are forced to use it, your clothes will smell and you will get black particles all over your clothes. Last but not least do not use there make shift elevator!! It is dangerous and they definitely neglect maintenance. My wife injured herself and when we told them the next day they basically implied we were lying and why didn’t we report it sooner.
We were visiting family in the area. The location was why we picked it as they lived less than a 10 minute walk away. Price was decent enough. We ate breakfast in the restaurant and it was very good booth mornings. Menu was good and cost was reasonable. Staff were polite and courteous. Nicely decorated. The old elevator was classic. Free wifi.
There isn't really parking on site. There is some nearby though. What was more challenging was that there wasn't a designated drop off/pick up area. That would have been helpful as we had to load/unload in a no parking zone. I realize that the Gladstone is a boutique hotel --- however the room was a little small.
Very cool place, cozy room, love all the art
The staff weren’t super helpful. Room wasn’t ready at check in, when I requested parking I wasn’t told I’d need a fob after 10pm which caused chaos later in the evening with the parking garage. Just didn’t go the extra mile for anything (even though I’d let them know this was a celebration for a birthday and my first solo art show). The hotel is amazing, I just expected a little more given it’s a boutique hotel, not a budget stay.
If there was a microwave and fridge in the room it would have made it easier to provide meal/snack/drinks for my child. The room was beautiful but very small even for an adult and one child we were feeling a little cramped.
Comfortable and spacious room
Was a bit noisy with traffic, trams and trains nearby
Rien
this was my second time at glastone house. the staff is super friendly and the bed is the comfiest one i have ever slept in!
maybe a mini fridge in the room would be nice!
Love the character, such as the old elevator and architecture. Good staff and a wonderful little restaurant.
Checking in and out is a challenge, as Queen Street is always busy and there is no underground parking.
The staff and location
The rooms are really small
We had a nice size room, with plenty of sunlight, a nice view, a moder updated look and feel. The staff was exceptionally polite and helpful without being professionally, emotionally distant , as it is so common nowadays. It was a personal nice experience. The beds we had were very, very comfortable and probably the best beds we have ever experienced in the hotel.
What was a little bit problematic was that there was no parking right by the hotel. We had a heavy snowstorm the night before and were forced to walk through the slush, on reduced walkways, back to the hotel, from our Park House, dowm the road. . For people with heavy luggage, and perhaps physical restrictions, this walk would have been impossible. Our shower room had the tendency to overflow , since the drain did not properly work, in the floor. But that is just nitpicking. We booked our room with booking.com, and the term other taxes was a bit of a throw off. To me, that's just means the original price you see, it's just a click bait.
Very cool vibe all around. Staff does excellent job curating a great experience for the guests. Hotel is conveniently located near eclectic shops and dining options. The location is also great to avoid the traffic nightmare that exists in the city center. The restaurant has some fantastic food. Cassette is a nice chill vibe for a night cap. When a place nails all the details you know it is something special.

Lovely historical property with a modern feel!

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
9.2/10Multiple guests explicitly praised how very clean the rooms were ("very clean", "Sehr sauber"). Housekeeping and room cleanliness are consistently noted as a strong point.
Service
9/10Staff described as friendly and lovely in several reviews; check-in/out worked well. Minor service issues mentioned (staff not always outgoing, breakfast understaffed, a late-checkout knock), but overall service sentiment is positive.
Location
8.6/10Location on Queen Street is praised for vibe and access to downtown activities, but multiple guests complained about significant street/train noise and some noted it can be a longer transit ride to certain tourist sights.
Room Quality
8.3/10Beds and pillows repeatedly called very comfortable; rooms are often described as small with limited storage and older windows/AC that can be noisy, which lowers the room-quality score slightly.
Amenities
8.8/10Notable character amenities (unique old crank elevator, bar, restaurant, breakfast) are appreciated. Some amenities drawbacks reported (bar closing early, noisy ventilation), but overall amenities are a strong feature.
Value for Money
6.5/10Several guests explicitly said it was not good value for money and that the property looks better in photos than in person; combined with small rooms and noise issues this is the weakest area.
Food and Beverage
9.4/10Breakfast items were repeatedly described as delicious (though the menu is small) and the bar was noted as lively when open. Main negatives were understaffed breakfast service and occasional early bar closing.
Overall Experience
9/10Overall reviewers describe a very enjoyable, characterful hotel with great design, comfy beds and friendly staff. Noise, small rooms and some service/staffing hiccups tempered but did not outweigh the generally positive experience.
55 artist-designed guest rooms each reflect the property’s unique style and ambiance.
