Fantastic hotel. Staff are lovely and helpful. Hotel rooms clean.
My children particularly enjoyed their stay and yhe food was excellent.
A very shabby, uncared for and dirty place. The bar had run out of beer throughout our stay. The room was miles from reception and was dirty, mouldy and dismal.
Staff very good
SADLY THE HOTEL IS VERY RUN DOWN.DIFFICULT TO KNOW IF THEIR WILL EVER BE FUNDS TO REPAIR IT .
No lift, literally coach parties, very elderly . Buckets from roof leaks, 20 year lld worn out bathroom(208) Food canteen style.
Continental breakfast choice poor. Christine on reception was brilliant
Was a tad tired decor wise.
to be honest looks can be deciving, from the out side and the reception very nice, but i wish i never paid 140 pound for 1 night, if i didnt laugh id of cried, the smell was disgusting, the carpets was really bad and the staff didnt care at all, we ate in the dining room which was full of mould, or beds was rock solid and smelt, i was fuming with the place i can go on, we was on the third floor and the lifts wasnt working and the place was falling to bits, the place does have potential but i dont think they care, its not hard to get a carpet cleaner out, the bar staff was lovely but the food and everything was shocking, and we spoke to a few guest and they was livid with the place if i could give it a zero i would, and some of the staff not all need to treat people with respect coz i was shocked how they spoke to some guest
the place it was falling apart eating in a place full of mould and sick on the carpets, id keep going but it will only get worse, we had a small balcony and im not gonna lie if u got a jet wash to that it would crumbe, there is no excuse for that, i took more pic but will only let me upload 20, charging people that amount of money for it to look like that is wrong, wake up and fix it, and the smell well that wasnt nice, and the last 2 picture was where we was eating.
Location was superb and access to the promenade for a short walk into Grange. Settings were also nice and staff friendly.
It needs some serious TLC. Obvious leaks and in need of redecorating. Breakfast- Luke warm coffee, bacon and black pudding hard and cold and quests for dinner so long we drove into town for food.
A Grand Building. Very clean. Lovely Grounds.
I understood the period /age of the property, however, the interior is very dated. To the right of reception there (totally on view) is an area which only houses an old leather sofa. This area needs a refurbishment/modernised to make interesting. All needs to entice a younger generation!
Breakfast ok, tea and coffee cold.
Dusty carpets, long walk for disabled people to room. Room lighting underwhelming WiFi poor.
breakfast was excellent as was dinner , fantastic location beautiful building , will use again .
nothing a perfect hotel .
This is home from home for us , viktoria , Thamos, nial, christne help to give the place a real sense of visiting family every time , amways making each visit special
Coming back home ... see you again really soon , thank you for everything you do for everyone xx
Beautiful old building
Breakfast was plentiful but poor quality, room was very tatty, ripped wallpaper holes in curtains, stains on walls and bathroom very dirty, dinner wasn't very appetising
The food and dirt
Was offered the accessible room on check in once I explained I had M.E. - the lift was broken and the only single rooms left were on the 1st or 2nd floor which I would've made myself ill getting to Bathroom was very stylish and well designed for accessibility, eg had a shower chair I could move around to sit at the sink to brush my teeth etc. Floor was tilted and there's a shower screen so you don't flood the bathroom while still having a roll in shower Comfy beds 2 pillows on the bed Reception told me at check in just to call if I needed another pillow which was nice
Accessible room a little hard to find, room number not labelled the same as the other rooms Limited disabled parking, only saw 2 spaces Shower had a few grimy spots on grouting and main shower head Couldn't see a way to lock the door of the accessible room! I can see this might be good in an emergency situation but didn't feel safe that anyone could just walk in while I was asleep. If I hadn't have been so exhausted I would've said something but I couldn't face walking again. Nowhere to charge phone next to bed - can be a plus for some but felt I needed my phone with me for safety - though there is a landline phone on the bedside table.
A fine old building. Huge restaurant
On the coach circuit
Lift out of order, not due to be fixed in a reasonable time.
A beautiful location, enjoyed the eldery people coach party's arrival, on Saturday, and the lovely people, staff are brilliant.
Unfortunately the hotel has a looks run down and tired, the lift was under repair, and not in use.
The view
Inside the hotel doors are dirty upstairs ,bedroom we had the mattress was very soft and cheap the pillows aswell very flat everymorning get up with back pain ,wall paper next to the bed its starting coming out ,lift not working when we got there was already the lift out of order,(at least should let guest knows before they arrive that lift not working) when we got there we been asking from receptionist (the lady first apologised about the lift that we cant used it because broke)to check if there is available room downstairs instead we use upstairs but we said we leave it and see how it goes ,but we never seen anyone all week in hotel working on lift, about breakfast ,45mins before closing already short of cooked meat you see just one piece or none on plates, not much fruit to choose sometimes you find already empty bowls which we did asked if there is anymore and sometimes did said sorry we haven't,should not leaving the juice trays full with liquids that have underneath of the jars which twice we had to ask one of the waiters to empty it before goes on floor and someone can slip ,some staff needs to learn smiling and communicate with the guests, but one morning it was Thursday we found everything during breakfast they kept filling up and kept it clean under the juices jars ,staff were very friendly and chatting that day and we did thanks them for lovely breakfast , we loved the evening entertaiment which only twice we attended, hotel looks lovely but needs a lot of work to be done ,it is a bit expensive for staying in that hotel
The property entrance and grounds were beautiful along with views of the bay from some bedrooms
Some furnishings were very dated and seemed like they needed replacing a while ago. A strong food smell came into the bar area which was unpleasant and more outdoor seating would have been welcomed
Great location, beautiful building, and friendly staff. We were there during Cartmel race weekend at the end of June, and the hotel had kindly opened their bar late for us to have food after the Kaiser Chiefs concert. Although compact, my single room had a desk and chair, and a baggage stand. My friends' room was large and had great views.
Although clean, the hotel needs some tlc, and that can make some areas look grubby (shower cubicle). But this is reflected in the price. My room was on the ground floor and the window was right next to parked cars. Ok for one night but maybe not for longer. And as in most hotels, you can hear the bedroom doors shut, because guests are not considerate enough to close them quietly. Why is there no dampening around door frames?
Staff were very friendly, we loved the historic element of the hotel. Beautiful view, lovely breakfast, thank you
Rooms are a little run down but to be expected in an old hotel and reflected in the price
Nice hotel and great location
All good
Staff were very friendly Spacious room. Two easy chairs
Decor tired. Couldn't open window in bathroom. Difficult to dry anything - the weather was wet.
The gardens
Nothing
I knew the hotel was in need of modernisation and the owning company in administration so in that sense it met my expectations. Food - breakfast and evening meal were pretty good - the bedroom very tired.
Still a bit expensive given the somewhat tired condition of the room / beds etc
Spacious bedroom and bathroom, lots of dining and bar space, good outdoor space
Receptionist unhelpful, food got returned as it was so poor, WiFi did not work despite asking them to check it, paintwork peeling, musty smell, very tired looking
Room was very dated but clean. Breakfast was really good & great location
Decor in the room was in need of repair & upgrade
Breakfast was okay. The location was good as well. Plenty of parking spaces.
Lifts were out of order. The hotel is massively rundown. Tatty paintwork, mouldy bathroom. I think everyone was doing their best but the place needs refurbishing.
Traditional, old English hotel with a long hiatory and very clean with friendly staff. We returned due to the experience of our first visit earlier this year. We like the room sizes and views of the estuary, the lovely grounds and spacious restaurant/bar area.
There is nothing we dislike about the property. We couldn’t have the suite we wanted due to a maintenance issue and the one we got instead had wasps nests so we couldn’t open the windows. This wasn’t ideal as it was very warm, but it was quickly rectified by moving us to a different suite and we had a very comfortable stay.
Location, facilities and the woodwalk
Lift was not working. Pub food was bad. Breakfast was good.
Good location Friendly and knowledgeable staff Room good size with a nice juliet balcony fir a view 11am check out is great Toiletries and bowels Comfortable bed Free parking Enjoyed evening meal. Good value
Dog friendly areas could be expanded Very limited space for dogs
We stayed just one night on the weekend of Cartmel races and was chosen for the location and price which were excellent An older property very picturesque Rooms were very comfortable and clean great bathroom although dated a separate shower and bath Bar area was beautiful with very comfortable chairs Staff were very helpful and friendly A great stay and would definitely recommend for a stay of one night or longer
The style and cleanliness
The view was lovely
Breakfast was cold (meant to be hot) and not appealing and evening meal was a bland carvery. Decor was Very very dated, peeling wall paper and in need a an overhaul Room was foisty
Location and breakfast
Cleanliness of the room / bathroom was very poor Bed was extremely uncomfortable and the Springs had gone.
Grand hotel hotel staff was friendly and breakfast was delicious
Room was A little bit tired lifts not working
We booked 3 rooms and spent a lot, The location was great and the views from 2 were fantastic.
The hotel is very run down, mold everywhere and it doesn't look like it's not had any money spent on it for 20 years at least, doors are falling off, corridors are cracked and plaster falling off daily with the carpets stained everywhere, the breakfast is terrible and poorly ran, it has the potential to be a great hotel if it had investment put into it. It's a shame to keep letting such a nice building in a great location jut rot away whilst taking people's hard earned money.
Location
It was very tired
The position and the public areas were delightfully furnished in a traditional manner
Our room was spacious with comfortable bed and well furnished but the window was in a very poor condition; rotting wood and cracked glass. Bathroom spacious but cold tap on the bath didn't work and bath surround needed replacing.
Large Victorian building. Clean and warm Nice staff.
Room’s need updating. Looking tied.
We came a few years ago and loved it only thing is we don't have a car my grandson and the rest of the gang that came sujested you have a pick up mini bus to get us from railway station ha it would be nice tho for people who don't drive we had the walk along the promenade was nice but had to struggle up the bit at the end to get to bridge and then the long walk up to hotel ok if no luggage we don't mind walking in the woods and we did see the deer this time loved it over all but then no lift fewwww we'll prob lost a stone ha thankyou had a great time xxxx brekky was fab too Barbara kylan Harriet and Ezra
Most of it when got rid of baggage thanks once again
It brought back memories of our wedding reception 45 years ago. Close to family and friends.
Same decor as 45 years ago, very shabby and worn. Cleaning issues throughout, almost looks neglected. We did not enjoy being treated as those on the coach trips with regard to dinner. We WERE seated separately, the waiter took our three course menu order, we received the starter then ignored. On complaining to head waiter, was informed that we were expected to join the queue for the buffet-style main course. Why take our orders for main course?
Lovely breakfast but a Luke warm cup of tea spoilt it
Place was very tired looking and needs a refurb
Bar service was ok
Bed was on the small side breakfast was very poor
Best location best n comfortable
We really enjoyed everything. Well done, Martin and your very friendly staff... we had a very comfortable stay. I'm looking forward to coming back .
The only thing I can say is the road from the main road needs some work done on the potholes... otherwise it is a big thank you.
Helpful and friendly staff and location
Such a cool place being in an old building. Was cool to learn about the history. Would stay again
Nothing
Historical
Nothing
Great old fashioned vibe to the place
Bed a bit small
Lovely old character hotel and right next to the seafront promenade - lovely walk down the coast. Good sized room and bathroom had a large shower. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had dinner in the bar, lovely meal and great service. Breakfast in the large dining room was great, huge room with good views. Price was excellent for a last minute stay.
It's a old hotel, so a few places need a bit of TLC - but I thought this added to the character of the place - but some people may not like.

Been Here A Few times Last Few Years A Very Nice Stayover . Nice Staff Clean Hotel Beautiful grounds and Location. I Well back Again Soon x
Nothing..x
Staff very friendly and helpful, food was good and good value. Location excellent with fantastic views over the Morecambe bay. The Peacock was an added bonus.
We were on the 3rd floor and the lift was out of order for the duration of or stay meaning 6 flights of stairs to get to our room
The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, the staff are amiable and the furniture on the main was comfy.
The bathroom had not been cleaned properly, the inconsistency from the staff, being hearded out of breakfast 20 minutes before breakfast had finished, the room had obviously not been used in a while as was musty and the windos had to benelft open to air the room. The hotel itself is tired needs considerable maintenance and is looking thread bare and battered in places with obvious damp and leaks. Staff while amiable at best were surly and even rude at some points.
The staff were fantastic
Broken lift! But it happens
Location, character, food, staff.
Nothing - everything was great
Lovely woodland walk on the grounds.
Needs refurbishment, would be a lovely hotel but it's all 'tired looking' and needs a deep clean.
The hotel has a great location, with friendly and welcoming staff who create a good atmosphere. There is also a lovely walk through the woods near the hotel, which is perfect for enjoying some fresh air and relaxing surroundings.
The room was dirty, poorly cleaned, and generally disgusting. It did not feel hygienic or comfortable at all, and the standard of cleanliness was far below what I would expect from a hotel. For two days in a row, I had to ask for the cups and spoons to be changed in the restaurant because they were dirty when we were seated for breakfast. The whole hotel needs a thorough deep clean. The handrails were sticky, the carpets were dirty and smelled bad, and the doors were covered in dirt. Yes, the hotel also needs some upgrades, as some of the furniture is ripped and worn out. However, even if the furniture is old, the hotel should at least be kept clean and hygienic throughout
area grounds
room dirty ripped curtains dust on skiting boards. very bad lumpy materes lifted up in middle . ased second morning re a new matress and fan due to very hot. they said no problem and would sort . 2pm asked again they said they sorying it. 7pm they were no fans left. hose keeper said no mayresses and gave me a quilt to put over mayress. husnand didnt sleep for 2 nights and bad back really bad service
Nice clean comfortable bed. Room was nice and fresh
Unfortunately when my wife had a shower the handle came off the control valve I actually fixed it have myself so we could shower
We loved almost everything. The grounds were amazing, the interior was just spectacular. Entertainment was great also. Only spent one night but it was a great night.
Literally the only complaints we had was the extractor fan in the bathroom was broken, obviously nothing major. To be honest, I can't really call that a complaint either.
Location, good breakfast, clean and functional, staff very helpful and friendly
Dated, limited facilities, poor carvery, damp smell in the room, sink in bathroom was loose
Comfy and good location
Hotel showing its age.
Nothing at all
Overall bad experience
Room was dated. Twin room beds had different mattresses. Could not shut the windows properly. Could not close the bathroom door shut. Kettle had grean scale/mould. Bar closed early.
Breakfast was great.
Very old property. Good for locals but people coming from India China will have high expectation based on price.
Loved the balcony room and how pet friendly the hotel is.
I did not dislike anything.
Location
Too many dogs
Breakfast was excellent . Location was ideal
Access to main roadfrom the drive was a bit daunting Chips with the evening meal had a funny. Neighbouring table thought they'd been fried with something else
Hannah- What a lovely friendly face, very kind and welcoming!
Location
Decor throughout was poor with the wall and ceiling paper in the room peeling off the walls.
Woodland walk. Refunded for the visit once manager of the group was informed as requested by the staff on leaving.
The room was dirty. Informed reception they said they would make sure it was cleaned immediately. Returned to room once it had been 'cleaned' it was still dirty lipstick on cups dust everywhere carpet filthy. Despite it having been recleaned!!!! Eventually cleaned by a manager. The carpet changed colour when hoovered!! Food wasn't good either. Food not what was ordered and potatoes that came out must have sat in the frifge for a week as they were grey souffle looked as if it had been chewed by the chef and moulded back into into a shape. Morning pastries were the cheap style that last for months in the back of the cupboard. If you are a dog owner you are confined to the dog house to eat and socialise. No beautiful view for you i'm afraid. Would not recommend this hotel sadly.
The view
Very dated the musty smell the food options
Excellent value for money in a really good location.
Lovely peaceful setting Not along walk the grange Could do with more seating tables outside Needs some attention to decorations as paint is peeling off in some areas but it is worthy of a 3 star rating
Room and bed were ok. Breakfast nice Accommodated wirh cot in room
The beautiful building and proximity to the promenade for a lovely walk. It has so much potential to be a beautiful hotel. Breakfast was ok. Shower and bathroom were nice.
Apart from the receptionist who checked us in and the breakfast waitress the staff were pretty grumpy. We brought our dog as the hotel was "dog friendly". We weren't allowed in the bar or restaurant and were relegated to the garden room which was an ok room but we felt like pariahs and completely out of the way. The garden room was not near the dining room and felt forgotten. The evening meal was awful.
Outside seating, Grounds, plenty of space and tennis for the children
A Bit tired
The hotel had lots or character and a lovely peaceful feel to it. Although some would say ‘dated’, we actually thought this added to it and made it a unique experience. We also loved the woodland walk that surrounded the hotel, especially good for our two little children, that had a little hidden play park with football and tennis area. Very spacious room, and liked that they put us on the first floor with no one below us as we had our two (wild) children with us.
Lacked facilities and in some places it did feel a little ‘run down’, for example, the seating and curtains in the dining hall were ripped, wallpaper torn from walls, cobwebbed in corner of rooms (however very high ceilings) but this didn’t bother us, but can see why this would be off putting. Needs a bit of an update
Quiet location next to the estuary. Nice town and walks nearby. Breakfast at the property was good.
A little dated in the rooms although clean. For example if it gets hot there is no AC which can be challenging in hot weather.
Location was good. We did not stay for breakfast. We went to the small coffee shop in Grange over sands. Food and service was excellent there.
Our room was no. 47. The shower off the main bedroom was clean but could not use the shower as it did not work. Outside was unkempt, trees growing out of chimney stacks, rotting wood on balcony.
Très bon accueil et emplacement très agréable.
Salle de bains pas grande et douche très impratique
Outside of property and good live music on Saturday night
Cobwebs in the room, bar food was average
Great room!
Staff were welcoming and helpful, nice view from bedroom.
Beds were uncomfortable, layout of bathroom not exactly good (toilet squished between bath and shower wall), wi-fi was hit and miss. Room was very basic and old style. All rooms dated and need refurbing.
Staff were lovely Food was nice Grounds were pretty
Room was dated Shower curtain and mat mouldy Tea tray very dirty
Amazing location, perfect sunset. Easy to find, good car park. Amazing building so much history. Amazing walks, cocky peacocks. Friendly staff, great room, spacious. Views to die for. Good bath and shower, hot. Amazing breakfast.
Bed springs. Could feel them. Room 34
The view
The noise from other guests as the floorboards where thin and you could here them
Location
It was far away
The building looks stunning, but has not been maintained professionally. Interior can do with a lot of TLC to get it up to the standard that the building requires.
Some of the staff were professional, but there were more grumpy personel than happy people. The property can do with a maintenance crew that actually care and want to give the grand place its worthiness.
Did not have breakfast
Good location
