What’s not to like. A beautiful house, wonderful surroundings and friendly staff.
Nothing
Beautiful location and rooms
Menu was a bit lax on choice
Very friendly & helpful staff
I liked it all
Loved the building and the gardens. Amazing. The suite was very comfortable and we liked sitting on the terrace and watching the wildlife.
Our fridge didn’t work.
Everything, it was so tranquil. I did not get to enjoy the gardens or even visit the rooms in the main house as I checked in late and checked out early, feeling gutted. I really wish you would make an onsite spa and I would be stopping by regularly for spa breaks, such a beautiful hotel in a beautiful serene setting. Even the air here smelt different 😌
Perhaps need to upgrade the sink taps to a mixer tap ☺️ but it's not the end of the world
I liked the location, far from traffic. We stayed in the Annex which was even more far removed.
I was given room 215. Located in a hidden corner by the public stairs. So any traffic is heard, the brightness of the lights by the stairs filtered through. I had to put a towel by the door to get the room dark. I was part of a bridal party, the rooms 220&219 were far more updated than 215. The worn out handle of the chair alone clued me in. I never expected the rooms to not have a mini fridge because that’s a given in any hotel I’ve stayed, I guess I never read the small print. The breakfast selection was limited but I was lucky the arrest had 1 vegetarian/vegan option.
Meget hyggeligt sted med lækker morgenmad
Beautiful setting, rooms are comfortable, when we stayed in July we stayed in the annex, this time we stayed in the house, we preferred the house, room was bigger and so lovely. Staff so friendly and helpful.
Nothing at all.
We love the location the beautiful and majestic trees trees snd the tranquility
Nothing
Unkomplizierter, rascher Check-in & Check-out Prozess.
The outside of the building is nice and very beautiful.
The room was very dated, and not very clean and smelt very damp. The bed sheets smelled really bad and the damp smell made it very hard to sleep.
I love this place.
Very glamorous
Not much
Lovely building & setting
New tables & chairs in the bar area don’t mix in with the other surrounding furniture which spoils the look - cheap & modern where the rest is a classy period look.
Beautiful property with friendly staff and an excellent burger on the menu
The location, the style and setting
The room decor was a little dated
Lovely hotel in beautiful grounds perfect location for us. Great staff and a great breakfast
Very friendly, relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff
It could perhaps do with a bit of renovating
Quiet tranquil Good amenities
Only there for one night
Lovely position, gardens beautiful.
Location was great and the breakfast was good
The room was awful. we were in lodges outside the main house and it felt like a premier inn The reception staff were very cold
Love this hotel stay everytime im in London . Terrific staff , great gardens great breakfast . Fabulous hotel.
Nothing
We stayed in the garden annex which is in need of major renovation. For example the carpets in the communal areas were stained and old, the windows were rotten and needed replacing. However the staff were great, the breakfast was excellent, the gardens were beautiful and the main house looked attractive.
Essentially the annex needs refurbishing.
It was a beautiful building with fabulous grounds
The incredibly rude and arrogant reception staff.
Perfect location.
Not a very big car park.
Beautiful hotel and grounds, bed was incredibly comfortable! Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious too. Peaceful and great value for money.
We had no complaints at all.
The location, the staff and the rooms have everything you could need
The mattresses weren’t the most comfortable, upon the whole it was perfect
I particularly enjoyed the peaceful location with a beautiful garden. The food was excellent and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The association with W S Gilbert made it particularly interesting. I would definitely stay there again.
There was nothing about it that I disliked.

Not the first time here. So i'm familiar with the place and coming back whenever I am in this area of London. Setting is beautiful. breakfast was decent. Staff were very friendly. the location was great. Room has all necessary amenities. Everything about the property was up to my previous experience and more.
Room has no airconditioning. There was a small fan that wouldn't do much if the weather was hotter than the days we stayed in.
The good customer care.
Would have like a better choice of fresh juice and healthier granola and yogurt. Evening meal with fish needs rethinking as bland and ingredients did not compliment each other.
It’s in the woods and dog friendly.
Not well maintained. Value for the pet friendly room was overpriced.
Mooi oud landhuis. Kamer in bijgebouw prachtig ingericht. Goede airco. Vriendelijk personeel.
Is armoedig gezicht.
my room was lovely, the staff were friendly. the drinks were reasonable priced.
nothing
The peace and quiet of the location - oasis of calm
Staff were friendly and helpful.
The annex / lodge rooms are very basic and shoddy. There is no AC . The difference between the rooms in the annex and the main building should be made clear at the time of booking and should be adequately reflected in the price.
I found bed uncomfortable and shower flow very slowly. ..
Lovely place to stay.
Small double bed.
The biscuits in the room lol
Room was so messy and mould around the toilet and bed
Great house, helpful friendly staff, amazing food.
Nothing, would love a swimming pool there.
Lovely old building - we were in the newer wing which was quite a maze to navigate, but we did get upgraded to a balcony room which was very comfortable. The breakfast was very good, and our waiter was helpful and very polite
Slightly officious welcome. Water pressure was low so shower was quite weak
A very characterful property with gorgeous grounds. Peaceful, conveniently located a short drive from Harrow. Great food and service and excellent value for money.
Nothing.
Lovely staff, great location and amazing food.
A small thing, had to go to reception twice as the keys to room didn't work
The house is beautiful as are the grounds. All the staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful.
Lovely building and room
room was great and comfy., friendly staff
leaving so soon.
Lovely... good choices... catered easily fur intolerances
Some instructions about the light in the bathroom being on a timer!
Beautiful house and grounds, very friendly staff
The rooms really need aircon
Friendly helpful staff, very comfortable room
Everything.
Lovely garden , duty manager went out of his way to help .Clean . excellent staff. Beautiful location.
Could do with downstairs w.c .
Beautiful quiet setting & nice breakfast
Very tired garden rooms in annex with rotten windows and very hard bed
The food was excellent and Evan made the stay even better.
No air con
The room was comfortable and clean. Location was ok for what we needed and it was accessible to close by underground stations. Reception staff were welcoming and polite
Breakfast had a good spread but for the price wasn't all that - particularly when asked for a hot drink only to find out that after you asked for a hot chocolate you were then told that it was £4 extra (on top of charge for breakfast)
Good location and a kind and helpful man at reception
My original room smelled terrible and the mattress sunk down about a foot when i sat on it. It was so awful that I asked to change rooms. The nice man at reception put me in a room which was a bit better, but this place is so tired and tatty. Peeling paint, stained carpets, ripped material on beds. Awful water pressure, shower temp was either cold or boiling. It's a shame as this could be a great place, it just really needs some attention. its overpriced for how old and tatty it is.
Breakfast was good
Very dated and old
Location and bed
No water in the room not good being expected to use bath water for t and coffee Aircon very poor
Great location, ideal for us to hop in a taxi to an event at Wembley. Lovely spot amongst the trees, beautiful building. Nice big room.
Decir is a little outdated in the room - could be excellent with an update. Bathroom could have been cleaner but was okay. Not a fan of shower curtains.
Lovely grounds, nice reception staff
Some of the bar staff were off hand, one was lovely. Room could use redecorating.
location excellent, staff really helpful. Gardens are magnificent.
Bathroom was looking a bit tired
View to the garden
room numbers
Great value and great location
One particular member of staff, Ewan, was particularly helpful and friendly and sorted out a change of room from the disgraceful one we were initially given.
Initial room given was disgraceful i.e., net curtain hanging off the window, one of the legs on the bed was missing and mattress partially hanging off the bed. Luckily we were moved to a better room
Really impressed overall with this hotel, great location, super helpful staff and good value for money.
Nothing I didn’t like, to find something it could do with a refresh in the room.
tidy and fancy
the look of the bathroom
Beautiful outside and great location
Bathroom stunk of cigarettes and very thin walls
Set in beautiful, quiet parkland only a few minutes walk to a bus stop. The main building is impressive. Our first floor room was in a separate block, with views to the trees. Being out of the main building meant that noise from functions etc did not intrude.
The bath has neither a non slip coating nor a grab rail. While a fan was provided, there is no aircon.
Great leafy location. Reasonably convenient for Central London via Tube and Bus. Character and excellent Public areas. Competitive pricing.
All
The location and place is beautiful
Water pressure
I liked the balcony on the 1st floor and the air conditioning was a huge bonus.. Plenty of free parking. The staff i met were very pleasent, even the gardener.
It was all good for me.
Location
Upstairs anexe room was extremely hot, a fan was provided but it was still quite uncomfortable during the recent heatwave. The corridors were a lot cooler!
The location is perfect
Very clean
The main building is full of character and the setting is very peaceful and beautiful for a London hotel. The breakfast was good, particularly on the first morning when it was cooked fresh. (The second morning was buffet service because after a wedding.) The staff were very helpful at breakfast. It was very hot the weekend we stayed. Our room didn't have air conditioning as some rooms do. However, there was a fan that was very effective. It was basic but comfortable and I appreciated having two more comfortable chairs to sit in. Parking is good - plenty of space.
We were too late to book an accessible room but agreed to go ahead anyway. We were in the annex where there were steps to reach our room even on the ground floor. The shower was over the bath and my husband wasn't able to use it. I was able to, but it wasn't very powerful. My husband is partially sighted and the light by the bed wasn't strong enough to read by. Having the main light on helped but we couldn't see a way to switch the main lighting off from the bed.
Gardens were lovely
There's no lift
The staff were very attentive and attention to detail was good. The room was clean and well appointed, the bed was comfortable
I asked for a quiet room. My room faced out on to the car park so was woken early by people leaving in their cars
Location
No Air Conditioning
The hotel is now looking tired and the bed rooms are very poir stsndard for the price paid.
Decorate
Beautiful grounds, well equipped with toiletries, tea & coffee making facilities
Bedroom was tired looking, needed decorating & modernising. Walls thin in garden rooms so could hear conversation from people next door. My fault but thought it was nearer to Stanmore tube station but needed uber from station.
Just looks like a stately home.
Rooms. They need to be refurbished addition of an a/c is needed. Pressure in the shower needs upgrading.
I have stayed at this hotel lots of times before. The hotel, the staff and the facilities are all excellent. I booked a junior suite with French doors leading out to the garden. We had a little dog and this was perfect...
The room was a bit tired and there were coffee stains on the arm of the sofa. I'm guessing a dog didn't do that...
Really nice hotel, great stay. Room comfortable
Only downside, paid for air con in the room, but the unit wasnt on, no instructions who to set it up, room was very warm, took around 20mins to set it up. Once on it took a while to cool down.
We are regular visitors to this hotel, staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, the grounds and hotel enriched in so much history, I could not recommend a more pleasant stay. Public transport to London is mere minutes away. 10/10 as always. Was even kind enough to upgrade us for free to a suite as it was my birthday! Thank you again and we will be back :)
We did not have any meals. Room and hotel location were excellent. Gentleman at the reception was very courteous.
Nothing
The grounds were lovely and there were plenty of areas to sit outside to relax. The staff were excellent they went out of their way to ensure we had everything we wanted, they were all friendly and very professional at all times.
The room decor is very dated, the carpets were stained and the overall impression was dark and grime. Our first night involved us using a fire escape, part of it spiral steps, to gain access to our room as there was an event which barred normal room access. Not great for people with health issues. There was also very limited menu for dinner as there were events in the hotel. Very disappointing.
Beautiful location. Friendly staff
Too few staff for the number of guests staying.
Quiet in a lovely location
Beautiful location & historical building
Bit grubby in places no pressure on shower so difficult to wash my hair
Great feel to hotel
Nothing
The bar and restaurant were very good, and I had a lovely breakfast.
The bathroom of my room definitely needed a refresh.
Everything. I needed somewhere close to London which would have safe parking for motorcycles - hit the nail on the head with this place. Long driveway through well established garden with HUGE trees. Gorgeous historic building, my lodge room had a balcony overlooking the gardens, good food, tranquil. Sitting in the garden with a beer, you'd never guess central London is 10 miles away. Even had proper filter coffee in the rooms!
Nothing. Great place.
Fantastic location and gardens plus the character of the hotel
The lodge where we stayed had too many stairs no lift, no air conditioning and was very noisy in the late and middle of the night.
Room was clean, didnt have breakfast Staff were friendly.
Room was dated and needed tidying up, room was booked with air conditioning as a room facility but our room did not have this and there were no other rooms avabilbe due to the hotel being fully booked. This was a very big issue as they only supplied one fan and this was pointless for the size of room we had. Hardly slept on a very hot night.
The service and staff was good
Our room was a little dated The break fast was fair. My avocado was over ripe and bitter.
De tuin is geweldig!
Comfortable bed & room breakfast was adequate
The bathroom light shone into the bedroom & only worked on movement to turn it off needed turning air conditioning off ! Reception were made aware but did nothing
The staff were courteous and attentive. The decor and heritage of the place was delightful. The food we ate lunch and breakfast was delicious. The rose garden was so pretty and weather allowed for us to sit outside and enjoy the sun. The room was so comfortable and well equipped. The room was very clean.
Nothing really we will visit again the property was quiet and in a beautiful peaceful location. We were attending the Harry Styles concert in Wembley and the property was a 25 minute drive away from Wembley.

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
5/10Multiple reviews note poor cleanliness: stained carpets, cigarette smell in a room, dirty bathrooms and general tatty appearance; cleanliness is a clear weakness.
Service
10/10Service is frequently praised: duty manager, reception staff and named staff (Evan/Ewan) went out of their way to help and resolved room issues; staff described as kind, helpful and welcoming.
Location
10/10Location repeatedly praised: beautiful grounds/parkland, convenient for transport (tube/bus) and good for events (Wembley); excellent setting and views to the garden.
Room Quality
5.5/10Room quality receives many complaints: tired, dated decor, rotten windows in annex, sagging/missing bed legs, poor shower/water pressure and some rooms smelling of smoke.
Amenities
6/10Amenities are mixed/limited: several mentions of no air conditioning, poor shower/water pressure, lack of downstairs WC in one comment; public areas/character are good but in-room amenities need attention.
Value for Money
8.5/10Value perceptions are mixed but generally positive: multiple guests mention good value and competitive pricing, though a few feel it is overpriced given the tired condition of rooms or extra charges for some hot drinks.
Food and Beverage
9/10Food and breakfast are often complimented (‘‘excellent food'', good breakfast spread); a few nitpicks about extra charges for certain hot drinks, but overall F&B is a strength.
Overall Experience
10/10Overall sentiment skews positive: many guests describe the hotel as lovely, would return, and praise staff and setting—despite notable room/cleanliness issues, the positive service, location and public areas drive strong overall satisfaction.
