Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The location was great, right on the edge of Grasmere village. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also very good.
The property is a bit run down. In our bedroom (no 31) we had the smallest bathroom I’ve ever been in. It was difficult to manoeuvre yourself around the toilet to be able to close the door and you were in danger of burning yourself on the heated towel rail when squeezing past it to get in the shower. The room had an adjoining door to next door which was not soundproof at all and we could hear every word of their conversations and were woken by them at 6 in the morning on the day they left. Beds are not particularly comfy and would benefit from mattress toppers.
Good location and friendly staff. Rooms excellent value for the money.
The Inn’s car park was very busy in the evening due to non residents being able to park when visiting the Inn for food/drinks and we found it really difficult to find a parking space when returning to the Inn later in the day. In the end we had to park on a car park in the village centre for a while but luckily we managed to find 1 available space at the Inn about 9pm in the evening so we did manage to leave the car on the Inn’s car park overnight. Allocated parking when staying would have been preferred.
Location was very good, just outside Grasmere. Room was comfortable and quiet.
Parking can be tricky. Carpets a little grubby looking, but I appreciate that the location contributes to that.
Fantastic location, great family room. Highly recommend
Fantastic location. Great staff. Had dinner at the hotel which was superb. Will definitely stay again.
Stayed in rooms 39 and 42. Signage from reception to the rooms could be better.
We liked the atmosphere of the Swan and its location with ample parking and a bus stop across the road, there was plenty of choice with the breakfast and the evening meal
There was nothing we didn't like
Very comfortable and perfectly located. The Swan was excellent to come back to after long days of walking in The Lake District. The staff were very friendly and helpful - a special thanks to Tanya for all of her help during our stay. Dinner and breakfast on site helped fuel the days of exploring the local area. Parking on site was great. Beds and bathrooms were clean, comfortable and very generously sized.
Room was very spacious.
Think our room was above the kitchen or something as there was a loud white noise pretty permanently. Didn’t disrupt our sleep but it was always there.
Very attentive staff, especially a lovely lady from New Zealand who looked after us so very well. Accommodation, meals, decor and location all great. Look forward to a return in due course. Really lovely experience and stay. A great place to stay.

The hotel is in a great location, the rooms are spacious and the bed was very comfortable The staff are lovely and really welcoming
Nothing, it was great!
The rooms were easily accessible There were grip rails in the bathroom Easy car parking
The corners in the rooms were a bit dusty
The hotel is cozy and comfortable. Tony is lovely and definitely it won't be our last time.
The rooms were large, comfortable beds, controllable temperature. Staff were pleasant. Food excellent.
Car parks not big enough. No lift.
Staff are friendly and attentive. A well managed hotel and our go to for the lakes.

Big well appointed room with big spotless bathroom. The food is not restaurant quality, but it is right at the top of pub food.
There was a large noisy extractor fan outside of my window. They only turned it off when I asked at 10.20pm. It started again at 6am. Avoid rooms 1, 2, 10 and 15 !
Food great. Pub layout very nice and traditional. Location amazing.
Lack of service -almost a self service food and drink situation
Great location Lovely pub and pub garden Impressed with family rooms
Could do with a few more parking spaces
Very helpful staff . Great breakfast. Great pint of blue moon . Room clean. Short walk to grassmere . Great pub for a relaxing drink or food
Free parking. Plenty of it . Traditional pub/ hotel
Great location. Value for money
Nothing
The room was clean.
The room was very small and the shower room minute. The table we had for dinner, despite booking was beside the kitchen door. Constantly banging. Everything else was adequate.
Friendly staff, great location, tidy rooms and nice pub
Lack of parking
Perfect location. Great staff. Very clean.
Nothing
Super friendly staff, really spacious bar/restaurant areas. Lovely location, despite it been along a fairy main/busy road you don’t hear anything
Food could be better, didn’t taste or appear fresh particularly breakfast.
Situation, beer garden, bar area
Cramped shower room Uncomfortable pillows Limited evening menu
- The location was convenient for walking to into Grasmere. - The rooms were comfortable. - Good draught beer choices. - Breakfast was good
- Evening food was poor (we stayed 3 nights and ate out of the hotel for the third night). - Staff were hit/miss - the young guy in the restaurant was great. There was a pleasant young woman behind the bar. But that was about it - staff broadly chaotic, tables left dirty after eating, a senior member of staff moaning at others to stay in the station they should be in. An older gent literally taking the plate out my wife's hand while she was trying to scrape leftovers into it... Things got better on the Monday when the bank holiday people left so I assume the business threw the workers (but if you can't operate at your best at full capacity, what hope do you have?! - We visited with a 1 year old, no mention of a cot (we brought our own but this would have been nice for over £200 a night). - We had to chase fresh towels on day 2 when we returned because nobody had cleaned our room. We had to chase twice which wasn't great. We also had to chase twice for a fan. Overall it was an OK stay. We wouldn't return as nothing about it blew us away and we were left with more frustrations than plaudits but it was by no means a bad 3 day trip. We decided on staying in the UK last minute and this was among the only hotels left. It done the job.
Fantastic location right in the heart of Grasmere but being fair enough away from the shops , it was very relaxing . The gardens were immaculate and sitting outside with a pint was an absolute joy . The staff were all friendly and the breakfast was tasty . The views of the mountains were incredible ! Everything was on the doorstop , buses , walks and a beautiful village !
The evening meals were a bit disappointing TBH
Cozy hotel and staff were welcoming and friendly.

Friendly, helpful staff, lovely rooms, excellent food.

Great location and quality in the hotel. Great service and breakfast
Nothing.
Evening meal was better than I expected, and breakfast was good too. Rooms were clean and shower was good
The hotel looks as though it has been expanded onto the hillside beyond the road. After a long coast to coast walk we had to carry our bags up and down many flights of stairs to reach our room. Only later in reviews did we read that it would have been easier to wheel our bags out of the hotel and up the car park road . Would have been really good if staff had told us that.
Friendly staff and couldn't do enough for you. Amazing bus routes enabled us to visit Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness.
A bar area for a drink after you have eaten. If your table was booked after you. No where to have a drink. The shower was very small.
Lovely hotel. The staff were really nice and friendly. The food was great we especially enjoyed the breakfast. It's in a gorgeous location.
The bathroom was a bit small but served it's purpose
Food was great and location 👍
Nothing
The position and the facilities, helpful staff
Dogs sat on furniture that customers were to sit on. Dogs that smelled badly right next to us eating dinner.
lovely venue which is pet friendly, great food and drinks.
The location, the cleanliness and friendly staff
Nice room, great food and lovely staff
The room was lovely, comfortable and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Food did let us down. Breakfast really need an upgrade.
When booked the price did not show the VAT this was added when payment was due , I feel the full price including VAT should be shown when reserving
Location
Bathroom was tiny
Very cosy pub-hotel vibe which was exactly what we were hoping for.

All food very good and all very clean
The dining chairs could do with looking at ,some very warn, was running out of drinks such as Baileys , we ate at 7.30 so not got the starters we would have liked
Good location. Pleasant staff. Varied menu . Plenty of parking. Room large and comfortable.
Location good but drivers not keeping to speed limit was annoying!
Prachtige locatie. Vriendelijk personeel en een gezellige sfeer.
De bedden zijn niet fantastisch. Ze zijn een beetje hard.
Great location on the edge of Grasmere village and all the staff we met were excellent and so friendly

Very good food. Full English breakfast and buffet was a great start to the day and later, very tasty pub food in a beautiful beer garden with a view of the countryside.
Lovely beer garden
Menu could be better
Location,
Difficulty accommodating guests for evening meal as a busy restaurant, bedroom and corridor doors no silent close mechanisms, banging doors late at night and early morning
Great location, good atmosphere and good food.
Fantastic location in a beautiful town. Breakfast was amazing and the service was exceptional.
I'm sorry but I cannot find any faults.
Breakfast okay Location good.staff where brilliant.
Bath room,it was very small. Water flow was very low.
Good location. Lovely beer garden. Friendly staff
Dogs have access all areas. Not great if you are allergic or uncomfortable with dogs. There are dog free areas, but owners can walk their dogs through them which defeats the purpose
Ideal location for Grasmere
Nothing
Quaintness Welcoming hard working staff Beer garden Well stocked bar Nice room
Dinner bought a sharing steak which was suspiciously lost a lot of weight I am a butcher/ chef
Perfect location. Food was amazing. Great pub.
Great value, location and service

Over the years my family have stayed here and this was the first time for myself and my son. I have heard so much about it and it lived up to its expectations! Will return.

Me and my mam have just enjoyed another lovely break at The Swan Hotel in Grasmere. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff — they always go above and beyond to make us feel welcome. I asked for an easily accessible room for my mam, and they made sure this was arranged without any fuss, which we really appreciated. The food on the new menu is absolutely beautiful, and the location couldn’t be more perfect for a relaxing getaway. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.
Location, staff,food
Nothing - if had to nit pick would have preferred one bigger mattress that two seporate ones pushed together for us
Room clean and comfortable
The full English breakfast was a joke. One sausage very small egg two hash browns the size of 50 pence pieces one piece of bacon one mushroom. All arranged around the plate to make it look full.
Food was excellent good value for money, staff really friendly
Really excellent breakfast and really efficiently organised. Excellent location, opposite an easy walk into Grasmere village and als opposite bus stop with very frequent buses in both directions, giving easy access to a good number of locations.
Would have liked a larger selection of vegetables to be available on the pub menu.
Food was very good
After a long day on the fells, we had an amazing dinner, despite not having reserved a table. The vegetarian tagliatelle was delicious! The room was very large and tastefully decorated, the bed spacious and very comfortable, with views over the beer garden and surrounding hills. Breakfast fuelled us for another full day on the fells. Our dog was made to feel very welcome by staff.
We struggled to find a parking spot on arrival, but managed to secure parking within a few minutes. Remember to register your car details on the new system.
Great location for walking , varied menu , nice eating areas , comfortable room and car park Friendly helpful staff
Loved all the many seating areas inside. Comfortable chairs, nooks and crannies so you felt part of the whole but also secluded in your own area. Such a wide variety of places to sit, and the outside areas were v well maintained as well.
Everything. Great location. Lovely hotel. Fab staff. Lovely food ❤️
Nothing
Kind and friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable. Delicious food. Stunning views
Repeated emails asking me to check in online while I was trying to enjoy my touring holiday.
Location, bus stop outside, no need to drive to Keswick, Bo'ness or Grasmere village. Variety of food very good 👍
Stairs everywhere
Great spot (especially for dog owners) with bus stop outside, walk out access to fells and hills, level 10 mins stroll into Grasmere. Lots to do on doorstep. Green option on housekeeping earns a free drink (limited drink offer) a welcome initiative.
Staff on evening shift were polite, helpful and welcoming. However, the morning shift was verging on Fawlty Towers level - to everyone! Reasonable variety in menu but inconsistent in quality. Lots of other hospitality options in walking distance.
Second stay at The Swan and once again did not disappoint. Twin room with my son and the room was huge, very quiet - great facilities, tea coffee biscuits, big screen tv - nice bathroom facilities and amenities. The evening meal was great and the included breakfast was sensational. Parking was great too.
There was nothing to not like.
We liked everything about the property
Nice place, reasonable food. Decent staff.
Wildly over priced for what it is. Nothing exceptional about it. £230 per night is way more than its worth. Greedy.
Great location
I have been charged £510 for the 2 rooms I booked rather than the quoted price of £450
Location and outward appearance, only.
£210, including compulsory £15 charge for my tiny little Maltese. Full parking on arrival and the following problems with the room: biscuits broken into crumbs, rubbish on carpet, no WIFI in room working, broken lamp bulb in one light, dead flies in main lampshade, no hot chocolate and last but not least, electrocuting myself on the “push to use” hairdryer. The pictures don’t reconcile with the reality and this room and facilities were massively over charged. I wouldn’t want to pay any than £60 for this, let alone £210 (£195 excluding dog). Latterly, the room boasts “completely toiletries”, which were bolted to the wall. There were also signs all over the place threatening charges (e.g. car parking and smoking infringements). It set a really poor tone, especially given my experience. The one positive was the friendly, approachable approach from the chap in the desk, who came up to try and address my concerns. Wouldn’t stay here again though and definitely wouldn’t recommend it for that price. Glad I just had one night.
Location, nice beer garden.
Rooms far too hot - no fan or air con. Drinks expensive. Food ok but not worth the prices. Over all not value for money at all.
Das Essen war recht gut.
Familienzimmer hatte nur ein winziges Fenster und dieses lies sich nicht einmal öffnen. Frische Luft gab es nur durch öffnen der Eingangstüre.
Location and bars.
Self service breakfast, food and bedroom not to the standard expected for the price of a premium room. Since hotel was bought by the Inn Collection Group it is not as good as it was previously.
Have visited grasmere many times and always wanted to stay here
The weather was really hot so the room was baking no air conditioning
Lovely location and very friendly and helpful staff good atmosphere
Good of done with air conditioning in the bedroom as it was very hot weather
Staff were amazing , great location and facilities excellent. Thank you
A bathroom shelf would be useful.
We stayed for 4 nights and had the best stay. The staff are all super friendly and make you feel very welcome, the location is brilliant for some great hikes but also easy and quick to get into Grasmere. Our room was spacious and the bed really comfortable. Having a delicious cooked breakfast was a welcome treat each morning, and the free drink for every day you opt out of getting your room cleaned was also a nice touch.
Our room was outside the fan for the kitchen, it did turn off each night but not until 10/11pm - it didn't bother us too much but if you like a really quiet room it might not be for you.
Great room, lovely location, staff were absolutely fab
Great location. Good parking. Friendly staff.
The bathroom was so small compared to our bedroom. To many stairs. And the food wasn’t brilliant.
Really lovely receptionist , super helpful
Woukd have lijed a quiet lounge to sut abd rekax in
Always love it here!
Only the limited parking and first come first serve situation
The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was efficiently served, even though the restaurant was busy at the time.

Blend of old and new. Nice garden to eat outside
Room was a bit functional- needed a bit more charm to convey more of a holiday mode.
It’s a lovely location and you can walk up the beautiful hill behind hotel to Arthur’s Stone. Easy walk to the shop and restaurant in village. Beautiful location. Megan the manager dealt with a small issue with our room very quickly on arrival and we had a lovely peaceful night here.
We enjoyed our meals . The staff were very helpful and polite. The room was lovely, and very comfortable beds Loved the location of the hotel, very picturesque. We were lucky with the weather, warm enough to eat outside, which was a bonus.
There was nothing we didn't like.
