Provider-sourced guest reviews.
I booked this hotel on Trivago but when I arrived Trivago had cancelled my booking without my knowledge or permission. They did however refund me my money. The owner gave me a reasonable deal in order not to disappoint me. The hotel is very cosy and homely and the staff were wonderful. The breakfasts were first class. My room for a double was very small and had some of the basics missing. There was no wardrobe, no hangers, no chest of drawers, no ironing board, iron or fridge, all of which I expect in a 4 star hotel. However, the owner did supply some hangers later when I brought up the subject. There were pegs sticking out of the wall about 6 feet from the ground and that is where I was supposed to hang my clothes. She left a stool so that I could reach the pegs. I would never sleep in a room with clothes hanging around as it would look like bed-sit land. Many of the reviews state how spacious the rooms in this hotel were but mine certainly was not. However, despite the obvious drawbacks, I enjoyed my stay very much. The food was very good, the location was excellent and the room was very comfortable. However, I would never pay the 295 Euros the owner claimed this room usually cost.
Lovely bar food Friendly staff
Very comfortable and clean room with a good breakfast. However the TV in the room didn't work.
We love it here and were so looking forward to a return visit. The rooms at the front are close to completion so our room was at the back. It was lovely, spacious and beautifully decorated, with lots of gorgeous bits and bobs. Very thoughtful additions such as straw beach bag for when it’s hot and a hot water bottle when a little cooler, obviously there is a charge if you ‘forget’ to leave them in the room on departure. The weather was kind to us so we were able to sit outside for a drink, the bar area is also fabulous, stunning decor and a very quaffable selection of cocktails. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was fabulous, there is a separate review. We did have an issue at breakfast however it was professionally dealt with by Paula on reception. Our feedback was constructively received. Another wonderful stay, we have reluctantly reduced our rating from ‘excellent’ to ‘very good’ in relation to our breakfast experience. We absolutely will return and hopefully will be able to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms.
Excellent stay, very comfortable, spacious and clean rooms and hotel all round with a very friendly and helpful welcome. Restaurant is a great choice for good quality food and big portion sizes. Outdoor bar and seating area with great views is a bonus and a perfect place for relaxing on a sunny day. Great transport links to Dublin and further south with the DART only a 5 min walk away. Safe and welcoming location.
Didn’t like the face that check in was 3:00 and wanted some food at 3:30 but was told the kitchen was closed to prepare for the evening service. Also no room service which I found very odd
Yet another 5 star experience in the HH. Still punching far above its weight. Our room might not have had a sea view but it had everything thing else to make our 3 nights memorable. Like the rest of the hotel it had style, comfort and cleanliness. Best breakfasts in Dublin. Reception staff could give lessons in friendliness and helpfulness. Could not have been nicer. (loved the muted background jazz music in parlour area) We love the seafront walks all within a minute from the hotel. Definitely one of our go-to hotels on East Coast. With ongoing improvements we can't wait to see finished results. 4 stars coming. J&J👍
Booked this hotel as it was near where we were attending a family christening. Good communication from the hotel. But, they are undergoing refurbishment to all the sea view rooms, it didn't really detract from our stay though. The hotel does look dated and tatty from the outside but once inside it's very nice. Good friendly attentive staff. Would imagine that when it's refurb is finished it'll be a jewel along the seafront in Dun Laoghaire.
Positives Haddington House is situated in an excellent location with wonderful views from the front of the hotel. All of the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The terrace seating area is well-organised and a lovely place to sit for a drink or a meal. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. Wifi was fine and connection was straightforward. Less than positive It would have been nice to know before we booked that renovations to the hotel were happening during our day. As it was, we could not have a room with a view over the bay, and the workmen started hammering at 8am on our first morning. The TV was tiny and fixed high up in the corner of the room and could not be seen clearly. Also, the TV reception was via aerial and was intermittent and very poor with limited options for channels. I tried to use the room telephone to contact Reception to ask for a fan, but it did not work so I went down to the front desk. There was no lock on the bathroom door. The wardrobe was old and not fit for purpose eg the bottom shelf fell off because it did not have four props to hold it in place, and the rail for hanging clothes was from back to front instead of from side to side. Summary Wonderful location and staff, but a very 'tired' hotel. Certainly not good value for money given that it cost £374.53 (€431.98) for a double room only (no breakfast).
We had the most wonderful evening dining at the Haddington Hotel’s outdoor restaurant last night. The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour. The service was top class, warm and attentive without ever feeling overbearing. A special thank you to the lovely manager (who recently returned from her Erasmus in Spain, apologies for not remembering your name!). She went above and beyond to make my husband’s birthday truly special. Her thoughtful touches and genuine care made all the difference! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable meal in a stunning setting. We’ll definitely be back!
From start to finish, our stay at Haddington House was exceptional. The staff were incredibly warm, professional, and always willing to help—true hospitality at its best. The hotel was spotless, with a calm, elegant atmosphere and tasteful decor throughout. The view of the Irish Sea only adds to its charm. Bonus that it’s walking distance from Forty Foot, a popular spot for locals to take a daily dip in the sea. The restaur A perfect blend of comfort, cleanliness, and charm.
Having booked this hotel several months in advance, I was extremely disappointed to be bumped in order to accommodate another guest who was being charged more. Was given the excuse that ongoing works in all bedrooms wouldn't be completed until Sept. Funny thing though...it's still available to book on other dates up to Sept.
Area was clean. They seem to care more about the restaurant attached to the hotel than the actual hotel itself. The hotel is under renovation but did not take away from the cleanliness of the hotel. Staff was great except for one cameriera who became very rude because of a language barrier.
Last year (May 2024) we discovered Dun Laoghaire while on a whirlwind tour of Ireland and spent an amazing sunny, warm, beautiful day on the pier and dinner at Oliveto! I have thought about this meal, this service, this restaurant for a year! And for my 50th birthday my husband surprised me with a trip to Haddington House! The weather was sunny and warm all week long! With Emma’s suggestions and recommendations, we explored People’s Park, the Pier, Sandycove, The 40 Foot, Dalkey, Glasthule, our favorite nearby pub The Eagle, and none of this would have been on our radar if Emma hadn’t engaged us, had conversation, or welcomed us warmly to Haddington House. She was the smiling face that greeted us upon arrival and the woman that set us up with a room the wee hours of the morning we arrived. She mapped out every avenue for shopping, lunches, and transportation! We enjoyed towels from the hotel and sat in the park for 4 hours reading books and magazines and RELAXING!!! An amazing week! Thank you for having us!
Wonderful property, very clean, and amazing staff. The cocktail bar and restaurant are excellent
very good experience
Everything felt cared for and right
We love it here, everything is just perfect. We were a little disappointed when we booked and no sea view rooms were available due to being renovated. We were sure we would be a little disappointed with any other room, how wrong we were, our room was fabulous. Spacious, spotless with beautiful decor, fabulous coffee machine, tasty treats and a large bathroom with super powerful shower. In the rooms you can borrow a beach bag for warm days and use a hot water bottle for cooler days. There are a number bikes in the foyer that you can borrow, the views along the sea road are stunning whether you cycle or walk. The bar area is lovely, with plush fabrics and gorgeous colours, it feels very decadent. Breakfast is really good, lovely continental selection with really tasty breads and pastries. The selection of cooked options were fabulous, eggs Benedict, smashed avocado and thick local bacon were delicious. The window seats give an amazing view of the harbour. The staff were delightful, especially the lady who checked us out on the morning of the 11/3, she is so generous with her knowledge and recommendations as to where to visit locally. The young lady at breakfast each morning was so friendly. Both are an absolute credit to Haddington House. We can’t wait to return and stay in one of the new renovated sea view rooms. Highly recommended.
An excellent find in a superb location. Very handy to the DART line . We stayed on a Rugby weekend and found the Haddington a great value alternative to staying in town, and only a short DART ride from Lansdowne. A very warm and genuine welcome at check in and friendly staff in the bar when we got back in the evening. The room was clean and spacious and very comfortable. We didn’t eat in the hotel so can’t comment on the food. Shower was a bit difficult to figure out but that was the only issue. We are definitely coming back again later in 2025.
Awesome place with great eye for detail. Loved the beachbags and other little items in the room. Staff was very pleasant and friendly. The food in the restaurant was great, although staff good improve on certain points. But overall we had a awesome stay!
Very cosy
Excellent service and very courteous.
I love the Haddington. It's quite possibly my favorite hotel. The building is beautiful, the location is incredible, the staff are fantastic, and the restaurant is amazing. They have put so much care and love into this hotel. I feel fortunate to have discovered this gem. You can borrow a bicycle to take to the 40 foot- you're close to the DART to get in and out of the City Centre (without feeling like you are in the midst of hustle and bustle) and how can you ever beat being right on the sea? I can't recommend this place enough.
We found the hotel very agreeable to stay in. No complaints atall. The food was also good. Staff were excellent and the room clean and adequate.
Emma on the desk was brilliant, very welcoming and informative. We got a room with the most perfect view over the Easter pier.
It is a lovely hotel but let down by a very, very basic room. We did book the deluxe room for the following day with a very nice sea view. The staff, bar area and food were lovely.
A wonderful place full of character , tucked away overlooking Dun Laoighre Habour - oozes with class A lovely bar area that hasn’t changed in years Nice pleasant check in - rooms are well decorated and en suites are very modern - will be back very soon
Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff, and a beautiful neighborhood.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in a charming hotel with lovely, helpful and professional staff.
This is our favourite hotel in Ireland. It is petite but perfectly formed. Staff is kind and helpful and if we get a sea view room we are in seventh heaven; this hotel runs on love to detail. It is close to the Dart and in some rooms you can hear the trains rumbling like an empty stomach. We love the breakfast room and the sea views onto Howth you get from there. The bar area downstairs is cozy and plush with dark voluptuous velvets and brass, There is lots of modern art displayed in the hotel, so it’s a great mix of old and new. The best place to hang out on a cold rainy day is in front of the fire. Staff is kind and very welcoming and this hotel is home from home for us.The location is very good, right in the heart of Dun Laoghaire, close to the Dart, and there are many shops and good restaurants around Haddington House.
The styling and staff of the Haddington never fails to impress me. I always have a great stay here and it makes a business trip feel like a well deserved treat. It’s a little like being in a time warp, and I now what it means when they say “the good old days”. Great nights sleep, and gently woken by the waves creeping up on the harbour rocks. I didn’t want to get out of bed. The receptionists and Olivetti staff are tops. Well done again 👏👏. Thank you.
Fantastic we will be back
Wonderful place to stay, nice room great biees and staff
Truly. This hotel is clearly a labor of love. The thoughtfulness put into every aspect shines through.
Overall the hotel décor and style is attractive (quirky and highly fashionable in the latest flowery boutique style). The staff were efficient and welcoming. We liked the special extras – beach basket, bike, etc. The location is very good . Fine for bus, train, DART, walking, shops, etc Room 220 is small but nice and has a good view of the harbour But … the plumbing ( shower and taps ) in the bathroom needs renovation - soon We didn’t use the restaurant in the evening. We had cooked breakfast in the restaurant and saw that the décor and styling is good. It has good tables for breakfast with a fine view out towards the harbour. We think the hotel is perhaps one of the best in Dun Laoghaire town ( there’s not much 3 – 4 star level competition in Dunlaoghaire ) We would stay there again in the future.
Stopped for some drinks and lite bites after visiting Forty Foot. We wee seated in a back room with a wonderful view of the water. Very enjoyable. A selection of small bites was available and we seemed to have the room to ourselves. Appeared to be an extremely interesting place.
Exceptional service , all staff members were very friendly & professional . Receptionist on check in even managed to find us a tape measure ! Our room had a wonderful view , it was small but cosy & met our needs, if a little warm due to the unexpected resurgence of summer . Restaurant for dinner & breakfast was great , but the absolute highlight is the cocktail bar . Quite simply amazing cocktails , wonderful service & ambience . Highly recommend this hotel , where we had a much more personal experience than at the Royal Marine the night before .
The ataff was fantastic. Bar and restaurant very nice. The location was good. But the reason i stay at a hotel is fhe room and the room was terrible. The room itself was ok but the bed was only fairly comfortable. Bathroom was nice size but had a sink with individual hot and cold taps. Supposed to be quaint I supose but its 2024 i would like to wash my hands in warm water not ice cold or scalding hot. The worst part was the noise however. It seemed as if my nieghbors where in the same room as I. It was terribly loud. My room was near the lift too so i had the noise of peole getting on and off the lift at midnight. The window faced some kind of alley which was also very noisey. Each night i was awakened at least 3 times per night between 22:30 and 02.00. The room did not have air conditioning which ok but the window did not open either. Well it did open, but less than 1” . The room became very stuffy. And it also smelt like cheap furniture which may have come from the clothes rack. Overall probanly one of the worst rooms i have had in years and i spend about 12 days a month in hotels. I am sorry but I would not stay here again unless it was the only choice in the area.
Lovely location overlooking Dun Laoghaire harbour good restaurant options 5/7 mins walk away or stay and use the very good hotel restaurant
Nice, comfortable, clean room. Friendly staff. Would have been five stars if we didn't have to book a time for breakfast and get turned away if we turned up early. Food was OK. Service faultless. Don't need to use over 200 characters for this review, but here you go, if you insist!
Why was I charged for breakfast? The menu stated it was included.
Awesome place right near the piers. A lot of great food options around the area.
Another wonderful stay at Haddington House for us. This hotel is perfect for a little getaway and ticks all the boxes for us - wonderful friendly staff, always with a smile on their face and nothing is too much trouble for them. It's also great to see the same staff working there year on year. Fantastic restaurant, beautiful outdoor seating area and bar which opens when the weather permits, the most amazing (award winning) cocktail bar which is never too busy - top tip, if you're a cosmo fan, ask for the Raspberry Cosmo, it's not on the menu but they'll make it up and it's divine!. Also, make sure you get the breakfast, you won't regret it. Lovely comfortable beds, and quirky little extra touches in the room. It has the most amazing views from the restaurant and some of the bedrooms with Dun Laoghaire pier right on it's doorstep. We've stayed multiple times and can't wait to go again!
I love the Haddington. Close to the Forty Foot and swimming, close to the DART into Dublin Centre, amazing staff. It’s a great property. Can’t recommend it enough.
I've stayed at the Haddington every time I come to Ireland. Emma, Siobhan, and the staff are incredible, the rooms are great, the restaurant is amazing, and its location can't be beat. Grab a bicycle and a towel from reception and go for a dip at the Forty Foot or head up the road a couple of minutes and grab the DART into the city centre. It's location is second to none.
We had a 4 night stay as a couple, but part of a larger group of 12 people. Every single one of us thought the beds to be extremely comfortable, so much so it was mentioned at breakfast. Breakfast was also great! A selection of something for all and service was fast and efficient. The hotel itself is in a fantastic location, it's a 5 minute walk from the Dart train station into Dublin, a return ticket is a little over 5 Euros. However, there are a number of local bars and pubs in the vicinity. Our large group used the bar as a meeting point for drink prior to arrangements, the cocktails are good, as is the wine, the guniess and the service. Our only surprise was that on the last evening we booked into Olivetto to eat, we were not advised that we would need to be on a set menu prior to eating which made things difficult for a couple of people with dietary requirements. A compromise was made with staff. The food on my part was extremely good, I had lamb which was superbly cooked. *** I really enjoyed our stay and will likely return**
An extremely pleasant and clean hotel located on the seafront. Attention to detail was amazing and we really enjoyed our stay. The plug in the bathroom didn’t fit completely so water leaked a bit, but no real issue. Highly recommend staying here as it’s so close to Dublin but without the restrictions staying in Dublin City centre can have (parking etc)
Very nice property and staff, highly recommend
Excellent staff, very clean. Great restaurants
Nicely located hotel in Dunlaoghaire. Close to a the promenade and the DART rail system. The hotel is situated in very nice groundswhich encourages you to sit outside and enjoy the good weather. The hotel itself is well run and the staff are friendly.
The staff at Haddington House were amazing! They gave great recommendations of places to see, and helped me figure out public transportation in the area. And they were all so so so kind! The location was also very convenient. Within walking distance of a lot of shops, but also close to bus stops for the longer treks.
Our first introduction to Ireland. A perfect location. Views of the harbour and close to cafes and shops. A 20 minute train ride into the heart of Dublin city. About a 5 minute walk to the train station. The Hotel is beautiful with SO much character and welcoming charm. The staff are very efficient and helpful. This is an older style hotel with much history but also with modern facilities. We stayed for 4 nights and were just a little bit sad to leave. A very big yes to anyone thinking of staying there.
Excellent waterfront location. Staff friendly and efficient. Food is delicious. Can't say enough about hotel, my favorite
Really enjoyed our stay. We had a nice ocean view and the area around the hotel was perfect for relaxing and strolling with easy access into the city.
My stay was basic, the room was close to the lift very noisy, you could hear chatters and doors slamming. I was not able to rest after a long flight. Room was musty and outdated. Staff were not friendly, when we asked for a room change we were told that they were fully booked. Location was great for shopping. I would not recommend.
The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful, and gave plenty of wonderful recommendations in the local area
Great view to the water. Very nice & helpful staff. Cool bar!!
I love Haddington House, my second home in Dublin. And I can confirm they served the best Irish breakfast in town.
Such a perfect hotel! Staff is incredible, food is outstanding and the best bartenders around. Hotel is decorated perfectly with lots of wonderful couches and areas to sit and enjoy a beverage with friends. Rooms were comfortable, very clean and simply perfect. Would stay here every single time I come to Dublin.
Staff was super friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and had just enough room. The food in the restaurant was wonderful. Would absolutely stay here again.
Fantastic stay. Comfortable room and great staff.
The staff at the Haddington are very welcoming. The hotel is full of character and is in a,superb location opposite the pier and very close to the DART station
Folks were extremely friendly and kind. Loved the hotel and would certainly stay there again.
Emma at the front desk upon check in was wonderful so welcoming, lots of sightseeing information . Loved the coffee and tea machine, bed very comfortable. Would stay there again.😊
Lovely boutique hotel in a gorgeous location with amazing staff! I will definitely be coming back!
The views
So close to everything.
Lovely location by the sea. Easy 5 min walk to shops, restaurants and pubs. Loved the 15 minute walk to Sandycove along the sea front from outside the hotel,. Rooms were tradition and very cosy, the staff were super friendly.
Coastal gorgeous location - walkable and easy access to so many private eateries and retail. Staff was wonderful and cared that you had a great experience at the hotel and area.
Great night away and no better place for a mini break
Wonderful team in the hotel, that make staying here delightful. Good location for cold sea swims too
Had a very happy break at the Haddington House, Dublin the restaurant and bar was excellent. Room at bit on the small size.
Another amazing stay in a firehouse hotel with amazing staff and great food and drinks
My only issue with the stay was that the hotel was inaccurately described on Hotels.com as having a pool, so we planned to have a swim on the morning before checking out. This wasn't the hotel's fault, and it's probably the only time in many years of using Hotel.com that I've ever had an issue with a listing. However, the price I paid did reflect my belief that it had a pool. Having said that, the hotel was in an ideal place for our visit, the staff were lovely, and the room was one of the best we've stayed in for a long time, in terms of cleanliness and comfort (though the shower temperature did fluctuate). Overall, we really liked the place.
Staff very helpful
Very pleasant experience, a wonderful atmosphere, a beautiful view and very nice staff from the reception to the restaurant, bar and housekeeping. THANK YOU!
I cannot sing enough praises about Haddington House! It is the loveliest hotel that I have ever stayed in! I have stayed in 4 and 5 star resorts and Haddington House does not have all of those resort amenities like a water park, a fitness center, or a casino. BUT it is a beautifully and uniquely designed hotel with a very fascinating history. The entire hotel is immaculate and it is truly a work of art. It’s a small boutique hotel which provides an intimate, quiet experience. It’s across from Dun Laoghaire Harbor so it is very safe, very quiet, and very peaceful. The hotel has stunning views. There is a wonderful restaurant, Oliveto, inside the hotel and it is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is made to order and it was absolutely delicious and you get to stare out at lovely Dun Laoghaire harbor and the sea while enjoying a cup of tea. The hotel was an easy 5-7 minute walk from the shops and cafes in Dun Laoghaire and Dun Laoghaire train station. There is also a bus stop close by. You can easily get to Dublin city center in 20-25 minutes on the DART train. Emma and the staff at Haddington House are absolutely wonderful. They are very warm and kind and they made my stay so special and comfortable. My stay at Haddington House was one of the highlights of my 4 week long trip around Ireland and the UK. I really hope to visit Dublin again in the future and Haddington House is my first choice for any future stays in Dublin.
We loved this hotel! Darling, great restaurant and bar and perfect location on the ocean. We loved the free rental bikes and the overall ambiance. We want to come back!
Quick and friendly check in- got a free upgrade as a frequent visitor!
A very comfortable stay in a wonderful location. The surrounding area is fabulous and you are easily connected to Dublin central with the Dart train service, bus or taxi. The quality of service, the drinks in the cocktail bar and the restaurant is first class as is what they serve. The breakfast will certainly set you up for the day!
Beautiful area and beautiful hotel! Upon arrival the guest services was lovely, she recommended we see their restaurant for a meal as we arrived late. The staff at the restaurant were accommodating to my husbands dietary restrictions. Our room was excellent, clean and spacious. The ability to purchase some of the products we used was wonderful as it was our first visit to Ireland. Now we can take home a piece of Ireland with us. Would stay again. Beautiful accommodations and area. 3 minutes from the beach!
My sister, husband & I stayed one night. No issues. Didn’t have the breakfast or evening meal. Very comfortable. Only thing was they charged us again about an hour after I paid on the same card. Was a little unusual as it wasn’t even the same account. They rectified it as soon as I brought it to their attention.
Beautiful Victorian hotel, stunning location with amazing sea views. Staff very attentive. Only a short train ride from Dublin. Can't recommend enough
Location was great… Found the room to be tight & small for 2 people… Floor was not level as bed had shims… After a half hour of running the shower, no hot water was available… Front desk was friendly when we arrive until the change of shift then the new girl was not so friendly… For the price we paid, we definitely should get a partial refund… Restaurant “Oliverti” was ok but very limited in choice… Spanish Hostess from Malaga was Great… She had an Awesome Attitude and Super Friendly !!! We will most likely stay someplace else when we return to the area but will eat at restaurant again…
We were In a room over the restaurant on a Saturday night, and it was terribly noisy.
Great location on shore with east train access to Dublin. Comfortable rooms with very helpful staff
Awesome view, wonderful staff
Such a lovely, classy but homely feel. The staff were fabulous and the history and stories provided another positive element. The service was professional. friendly and helpful.
My second home! I have been coming to Haddington House for many years, and the place just keep getting better and better. Oliveto is one of my favourite restaurants in the world. The staff is super helpful, friendly, and always ready to go the extra mile. The rooms are real bedrooms, nice and cozy. My home in Dublin!
Great receptionist!
Exceptional service, and lovely hotel. Free on site parking, which was very convenient and a great amenity to have, especially in that area. The only negative I have, is that the heat was on very high in the room, and it was uncomfortable. I tried to turn it down / off, but it remained hot for a long time. I had to leave the window open all night. Everything else was excellent.
Very clean and great service!
Staff very helpful
Beautiful location by the sea, very nice neighbourhood, close to commuter train (DART), very nice hotel, nice bar. Far from airport.
Marvelous hotel with outstanding sea views, great food and sophisticated cocktail bar. Perfect staff & delightful being able to walk by the sea. Look forward to visit again
Just love this hotel so near everything and the staff are so friendly.
Ideal location, friendly and helpful staff, nothing was a trouble for them. Transport is very convenient by bus and train. Great selection of restaurants with many and varied menus.
The hotel was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My family and I had two rooms which were very comfortable. The breakfast was very good too.
Fabulous place to stay, the staff was amazing and so kind!! The Horne was perfect for us and we felt so welcomed, they made us feel right at home!
