InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort by IHG

Very pretty, clean and relaxing. The staff were very nice. They gave good service from when we first arrived, and we felt taken care of from the start. The food was also varied and good. Rajdip and Govinda were excellent servers at Senso. The rooms were nice and big, and the sunbeds outside were very comfortable.

The water in the showers was cold, and took a very long time to become warm.

Overall, the restaurant stands out (we had all our meals at Senso Restaurant). The staff, food variety and food quality was exceptional. Mr Rajdip and Mr Naveen deserve a special mention. They were eager to help always. Mr Wesley, the restaurant manager was quite helpful too.  Housekeeping was impeccable. Checkout process was seamless. Special thanks to Mr July for the pleasant experience. Mr Vishan at the concierge desk was quite helpful in planning our day trips. Special thanks for Mr Ishrat the manager of Intercontinental Balaclava. It is people like him that make a place truly special.

Check-in process could have been better. Some of the staff needs to be trained further. Rather than mechanically saying "Dinner is free, breakfast is free, only 4 bottles of 500 ml water is free" etc, it would have helped to just say that since I opted for a half-board package, breakfast and dinner are included in the package. None of these are actually free and neither were we out there expecting a free dinner :-) I have paid at least INR 80K for the 4 days for the half board. As we had our flight landing early in the day, we reached the hotel at about 10.30 AM. The check-in staff wouldn't give us any timeframe about when the room would be available because as per them the rooms were not ready and that the check-in time is 3 PM. But, in the same breath, she also said that if I pay EUR 100, I can get the room immediately :-) Finally, I spoke to Ishrat and he immediately arranged the room without paying anything extra. We got the room before 12 noon. Intercontinental Balaclava should seriously consider the concept of meal credits. So that people checking in early and checking out early due to flight times can swap meals (or avail the unused credit to be used for F&B). Intercontinental Balaclava would also do well to increase the daily water ration! 2 litres per day for 2 adults is unfair 😊. Water rationing is typically done in hotels that are in countries were tap water is good for consumption. If that was the case in Intercontinental Balaclava, it would have been good if guests were told that the tap water is good for consumption. Other option is to provide water fountains from where guests could fill the bottles. Charging for drinking water is not a great idea in most cultures, unless one is in the drinking water business.

Staff was very frendly

Picturesque resort, excellently located and very clean.

My bathtub has a leak and flooded my room. The glass bottom boat at the boathouse is old and rugged and very uncomfortable to get in and out of. The staff are also generally not very welcoming. From the lady who did my orientation when I checked in, to the barman, the waiters, and the boys at the boathouse who were very clearly making jokes about my weight.

I was upgraded to a family suite, somthing that blew us away, thank you very much for that

We stayed here for a week and it was a remarkable experience. The property is quite large and spreads over a large area. It has all the facilities that you expect for a resort - multiple pools, sports facilities, water sports centre etc. The staff were always welcoming and friendly. The breakfast spread was large, although with more Indian dishes than Mauritian local ones.

There arent much dislikes, but things to note: - The locality of the resort has absolutely no eateries or shops in walking distance. Even if you drive, this area is a relately secluded part of a village. - We had dinner from the resort in one night and it was quite expensive and not value for money. We had breakfast only package and other times food is payable. There are few a la carte restaurants in the resort and most of them need a reservation in advance.

Quiet location of the hotel. Grand lobby. excellent room. big choice of food at the 4 restaurants . Veda, Noble, Mediterranean and the large buffet restaurant . Huge expanse of the property . Great beachside seating for relaxation. The STAND OUT QUALITY WAS THE STAFF . Soru madam - exceptional service . Very good service by Anjali . Drishti and Khushi madam.

Limited option for " Half Board" residents in the dinner menu .

The waves of the sea is near from the beach, the food of the breakfast was fantastic and variety.

The hotel itself is not suitable for GCC citizens, the rooms include stairs, the water supply is very short. The balcony inside the room, the pool is not suitable for adult, the kids club is far from some rooms. The noisy from the night activities is still until 11:00 which impact the bed time

كانت تجربتنا في الفندق ممتازة بشكل عام، فالفندق جميل ونظيف، والخدمات كانت مميزة، كما أن معظم الموظفين كانوا متعاونين وودودين ويستحقون الشكر. لكن للأسف، كانت تجربة تسجيل الدخول سيئة جدًا بسبب إحدى موظفات الاستقبال. كان أسلوبها غير لائق، ولم يكن هناك احترام أو تقدير لظروفنا، رغم أننا وصلنا بعد رحلة سفر طويلة وبرفقتنا أطفال. كما طلبت منا متطلبات غير معتادة، وتسببت في تأخير دخولنا لمدة ساعة ونصف فقط للبحث عن الحجز في البريد الإلكتروني، وكان من الممكن التعامل مع الأمر بطريقة أسرع وأكثر احترافية. لا نرغب في أن تؤثر تجربة موظفة واحدة على تقييم بقية الموظفين المميزين، لكن نتمنى من إدارة الفندق مراجعة أسلوبها وتدريبها على حسن التعامل مع النزلاء، خصوصًا العائلات القادمة من السفر. كنت أتمنى معرفة اسمها أو رقمها الوظيفي لتوضيح الملاحظة بشكل مباشر، لكن للأسف لم تسنح لنا الفرصة. وباستثناء هذا الموقف، كانت بقية تجربتنا في الفندق ممتازة.

I liked the location of the hotel. We had a rented car, so it wasn't a problem to explore nearby beaches. The territory is well-kept and clean. There are now crowds, which makes it feel private. There is a good range of free water activities at the hotel, like water skiing, sailboats, kayaks, snorkelling etc. The rooms are big and overlook the ocean. The stuff are friendly and helpful.

سكنت فيه ثلاث ليالي اخذت غرفه عائلية عبارة عن غرفتين وتكرمون دورة مياه الغرف جميلة واطلالتها على المحيط الرومو سيرفسر طلبنا منهم مرتين عشاء للامانه ارخص من انك تاخذ الغرفة بعشاء طلبنا منهم فوتوتشيني وبيتزا سعرهم تقريباً 100 ريال

عندهم نظام غبي جداً كنا 4 يحطون لكم 4 قوارير ماء ام 500 مل اذا طلبت زياده علشان قهوه اوشي يقولك المساء يحقلك تطلب مره ثانيه ماكانهم خمس نجوم وكل ماطلبنا بالليل يرسلون حبتين 😅 النظام الثاني الفوط على المسبح انا سكنت قبل باكثر من منتجع اول مره تمر علي طريقه متخلفه مثلها لازم تعطيهم بطاقة علشان يعطونك الفوطة ويسلمونك البطاقة بعد ماترجع الفوط المشكلة تجي تبي ترجعها ماتحصل موظف تقعد تحتريه يجي الفطور للامانه تحس موجه للهنود ما الومهم صراحه معظم السكان هنود

It was all beautiful the atmosphere the trees and beach and the grounds keepers trimming of the bushes and leveling of sand on the beach just a woderful experience. Thank you so much can't wait to revisit.

The property is on the sea coast with easy access to the beach. It is very nice to enjoy the sunrise and sunset in a peaceful atmosphere. The staff at the restaurant are very helpful, looking to satisfy our requirements. Breakfast spread is very good.

Very difficult to get help from front-desk or housekeeping. One day I needed an extra bottle of water, I had to request front-desk three times, when there was no response I contacted the Duty Manager and then got the water bottle. On the day of departure, I requested for some help to take the luggage from the room to the lobby. With no help forthcoming, I dragged the luggage myself. This area needs improvement.

The sunset views were out of this world.

Booked a day earlier then we arrived so that when I do arrive room will be ready as I was traveling with a 4 year old . Only to get there and told that room was not ready all excuses were been made to delay us and also was lied to about room not been ready. Accused of booking it the evening before thats why the room was not ready.

Le personnel et très gentil, nous avons surtout beaucoup aimai Anjali une dame qui travaille à la sécurité au portail, toujours le sourire et de la bienveillance. Elle est très gentille nous avons beaucoup parler avec elle c’est une très belle personne avec un grand cœur . Nous ne l’oublierons pas .. seul point négatif les chambre sont un peut mal insonorisé, nous avons était réveillé à 5h du matin par nos voisine qui rigolaient et parler un peut fort . Sinon très beau séjour à l’île Maurice . Un peuple très accueillant et gentil .

The room: The room was perfect — exactly as described and shown in the photos on booking.com. Breakfast: The breakfast was good, but the organisation was a bit strange. You need assistance to find what you need — for example, they put butter at the juice section instead of near the bread. Some food sections are also inconveniently located. But generally after the first day — the learning day — you get used to it. The staff is friendly and very responsive, big thanks to them! In general: Restaurants are tasty, service is very good and people are friendly. Lots of families with kids. Also, the hotel was full but you would only notice it at breakfast — the rest of the time it looks almost empty. Very well managed.

SPA: There were two saunas, both only slightly warm. Why not keep one at a lower temperature and make the other properly hot? The hammam is the biggest issue. It should be made from marble but here everything — benches, walls, all surfaces — is plastic. Plastic when heated releases hydrocarbons into the air, making this small enclosed space genuinely unhealthy. I hope they will fix this. Ocean: Clean but too many rocks, too shallow and not much space to swim. I noticed that most guests were using the pool rather than the ocean.

It’s one of the best resorts I have been in Mauritius! It looked amazing and had great views. We have had the best food at all of its restaurants and would highly recommend them to anyone. The rooms were very comfortable to the point where we felt at home. Staff members were very friendly and catered for our needs efficiently. Would definitely go again next time we are in Mauritius!

We liked the room very much, it was really nice. The few beaches which are belong to the hotel was okay, but nothing special. It worth to walk a few minutes to Turtle Bay which is much better for snorkeling. It belongs to another resort, but on the public beach part nobody cared that we are there. Obviously we couldn't use their facilities. All the restaurants we tried were nice, the staff was really kind and very friendly. The selection of food was quite good, both for breakfast and dinner we could find something which are not too spicy.

On the first day we arrived there were a lot of mosquitoes in the room, maybe somebody left the door open. After few days we found all of them and we watched the doors keeping them outside.

Am apreciat amplasarea hotelului, care permitea accesul facil pe plaja indiferent de locul cazarii. Chiar daca este o plaja stancoasa, este deosebit de frumoasa, iar amenajarea hotelului pune in valoare aceasta frumusete. Laguna este ca un acvariu natural. Personalul este amabil fara a fi intruziv. Cat priveste mesele, mi-a placut faptul ca am avut optiuni alternative de restaurant pentru micul dejun, cu stiluri si oferta diferita, precum si intervalul generos incepand cu o ora matinala, in care a putut fi luat micul dejun. Un decor minunat si la restaurantul amplasat in vecinatatea plajei (Noble House).

Sugar island and the sun beds along the beach as well as the buffet and restaurants on the property were all amazing. Really enjoyed our stay and time at the spa and pool. Enjoyed the music entertainment each night as well as the disco nights. Staff are also lovely and attentive.

You can’t really kayak or paddle boat. There’s only about a 10m x 10m area where you can kayak. The bar wasn’t consistent with the drinks but they were still good. The pools also weren’t deep at all so you can’t really swim but still great to relax and sit at the pool bar.

The territory is enough spacious, though the beach is with lots of stones, still can find an occupation at pool or ping-pong or volleyball/tennis. Place looks great for snorkling and diving as lagune is finishing very close.

Reception ladies look to not be very professional: extremely slow, not speaking French, despite notification to not disturb during baby day nap they decided to call us to room several times with unclear reasons
