location right next to neptune steps, lots of parking
staff spread thin
Had a good evening meal The setting is beautiful loved seeing Neptunes Steps Had a good evening walk up the canal
Location
Very disappointing stay – serious room and cleanliness issues Unfortunately, our stay at The Moorings Hotel was very disappointing. 1. The room door would not lock properly. We reported this to reception immediately after checking in. The receptionist said someone would come and fix it, but nobody came. 2. We had to slam/close the door around 20–25 times before it would finally lock. 3. On the second day, I went out and returned to find that the room door was unlocked/open, which was extremely concerning from a security point of view. 4. The room was not properly clean and the overall condition felt poorly maintained. 5. In the bathroom, the toilet roll holder was broken. Given the condition of the bathroom, we were also left wondering whether someone had entered the room. 6. Overall, the hotel and furnishings look very old and in need of significant maintenance and refurbishment. 7. On the second night, we reported the door problem again. This time, reception moved us to another room. However, the replacement room was smaller, including a smaller bathroom, which did not feel like a satisfactory solution. 8. There was also a very unpleasant smell throughout the hotel, which made the stay uncomfortable. 9. Even the toilet near the restaurant was extremely dirty and had no soap, which is unacceptable for a hotel. The only positive aspect was the location. The hotel is in a beautiful area, with a good location outside Fort William, approximately 5–6 miles away. Unfortunately, the location alone could not make up for the security concerns, cleanliness issues, unpleasant smell and poor maintenance we experienced. Based on our stay, I would not recommend this hotel unless these issues are addressed.
Joli jardin
Le prix est un peu élevé.
Breakfast was ok, shower pressure was excellent.
A lot of money is needed to get this hotel out of another decade, a lot of the furniture and carpets are “tired”. Expected a room with a view( looking at the photos on the internet). Electrical tagging was out of date .
This hotel for one night was expensive - however, the hotel did not meet the expectations met for such a price. The evening meal was ok and breakfast again was ok but there was nothing special about this hotel except the location. The room was clean and bed were comfortable.
Location superb Staff very attentive and so friendly Had evening meal good selection on menu Food presented well and good portions Breakfast had the full English great
We chose the hotel for the great location right on the canal and by the train station as we were starting a barge trip from there. This was perfect. We had dinner one night in the restaurant, which was good quality and there was lots of choice. Rooms were very clean. It was a short taxi ride into Fort William for access to shops, pubs and nice cafes.
Much of the hotel is tired and needs refurbishing. The bedrooms and beds are quite old which impacts the comfort level. Bathrooms are very old fashioned and in need of upgrading. The staff varied with some being very pleasant and helpful to others being cold, sharp and unhelpful.
The grouting around the 🚿 needed a clean, and the edge's of the carpet needed hovering especially on the stairs.
Setting was superb, right next to Neptune's Staircase. Room was a really good size, as was the bathroom. Food was good
Nothing
Room awful, 1 skylight window. Very dingy. Setee filthy dirty. Whole hotel felt dingy and unwelcoming. On seeing room deided not to stay. More like a hostel than 4x hotel.
Great location. Good facilities and really friendly and welcoming staff. Food in Bistro was delicious. Great views.
Floors needed a bit more of a thorough vacuum as we had tissues on floor by bed and behind bathroom door.
The location is excellent!!
I had someone else's old, wet towels in the bottom of the shower. No fresh towels for me. The room smells musty and I had to carry heavy bag up to my room through awkward staircase. Staff were not helpful when enquiring about parking the car for a few days whilst going on a canoeing trip. Staff advised that although they own the 2 massive car parks, which were only partially filled when I stayed, parking there would not be an option!
Size of the room and the upgraded room
Staff. Refusing to bother to get me milk for my room as it was too much bother
Great location and view. Had a superior room which was modern, spacious and very comfortable.
Some areas a bit tired but still nice . Only issue we had is the long walk to room with 3 corridors and 2 flights of stairs as one of my party has Mobility issues. Didn’t know about the stairs before we booked.
The room was lovely and the location was exceptional
We were made to feel rather unwelcome at dinner time, we had a table booked in the restaurant, were given a table in the bar, a member of staff then shouted to say that wasn't our table for food, it was then explained the restaurant tables were booked but they found us one. We had to fetch our own cutlery and sauces, had to fetch our drinks from the bar and told no tab on room or table ( which is fine if that's the policy but they then changed to say table was ok ), not offered dessert or asked if the food was OK. We sat outside and were told the door was going to be locked at 9pm ( one of the selling points of the hotel was the outside area by the locks ).. we had already paid £255 for the room but were made to feel like we were trying to run off without paying for the meal, we were staying in the hotel still ! . Such a shame, the room and locational were amazing.
Having to look for someone to request the restocking of some of the basic breakfast items. Was not that busy at the time.
La ubicación
La cama pequeña , hotel viejo . Caro para lo que ofrecía.
The location was nice
The bathroom sink wasn’t cleaned it had toothpaste still stuck to the sink and, tap and mirror. Some of the staff which were very little was rude. The hotel needs maintenance and good thorough clean, I would not class as a 3 star more like a 2 star. Going through on corridor that wasn’t cleaned at all and you can smell something horrible as soon as you opened the door.
Buen restaurante.
Lejos del Centro de fort william
Location. Cleanliness and all round value for money
Staff not too friendly but did the basics well enough.
Great location
A bit shabby - seems like it has seen better days. The service was patchy: some great, some not so gracious and hospitable
The location is good and the bed is comfy.
The place needs to be refurbished and cleaned. It is really outdated and the floor in my room (carpet) was full of stains
Nice location, bed was comfortable, bathroom with good shower. Breakfast was nice and with enough choice.
Pricey for what you get as too often in Scotland.
Very dated Dirty
Bed’s uncomfortable Dirty
The location
The staff were unhelpful. The rooms need to be redecorated. The hotel felt very unclean.
Great view of Neptune's Staircase and Ben Nevis
Restaurant food was poor and breakfast was pricey.
Great location and staff were friendly. Parking was good and food was acceptable
Toilet facilities were grubby
Nicely situated but we definitely won't be back!
The appalling way a lady "manager"? was talking to a member of staff, ordering her about as if she were a child in front of guests. Broken screens in the accessible room. General lack of cleaning, dusty and grubby areas in rooms. No staff at all to be found on checkout at around 9am to voice our concerns to. Generally no staff to be found anywhere most of the time. Cracked wash basin in one of our rooms.
We had excellent weather and it was really nice to have a drink outside beside the canal. Plenty parking space. Staff generally excellent. Food is good and reasonably priced.
Rooms are needing refurbished. A good clean would help in the meantime…but things like the blackened bath mat need replaced urgently. Bar closes 9.30ish
It was beside the locks and the “Harry Potter” train went by. The station to get on the train was close by The supper meal was very good as was the breakfast at £15 pounds each. The bed was comfortable
The outside step entrance to the pub is filthy which turns you off immediately. Upon arrival I had to go find the staff as per a sign, no problem but when I did, the woman was abrupt and looked bothered. When she checked us in she assumed we knew where to go. We had to ask. It was quite a distance through a maze of corridors and a series of steps to get to the room. When I picked up a mug in the morning, the spoon and the mug had been already used. The tissue boxes had only two tissues in it in both our rooms.
Food excellent
Poor plumbing shower cool and very tired. Room decor very dated
Convenient stop off travelling through Fort William. Room was comfortable and had everything necessary.
Pricing was pretty high for a last minute booking. There was noise from the extractor fan underneath the room or in the cafe which detracted from the peace.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Can’t fault the staff. The bed was very comfortable.
We were disappointed with the first allocated room. Superior room with a panoramic view of the car park and trees. When asked we were quickly and efficiently moved to another room. One with a view. (Again can’t fault the staff). The rooms are in desperate need of updating. The carpets are stained and the curtains falling off. Tatty. Not impressed.
Lovely location with balcony overlooking the canal. Excellent room, spacious with good en-suite.
Location and good service, nice food too
The shower matt, black mould under it
The staff were caring, professional and determined to deliver for the customers.
Nothing!
Personale accogliente e camera spaziosa
Sciacquone poco funzionante e tanta polvere
Good location for us to start canoe trip Food at cafe was good, breakfast not so much. Car park available which we didn't use.
The whole hotel needs some TLC. The cafe has had money spent on it but the rest is dirty and unloved, easy fixes like curtains hanging down and bathrooms, side lights not working, not properly cleaned so dirt on floor. Basic but that appears to be general theme of hotels in the area.
The location was absolutely beautiful and quiet. Great view from our room. Nice, spacious and clean.
Nothing much, maybe that there is no lift!
good location, nice room
staff seemed a bit offhand. Dinner was good, but service poor
Pleasant location .
Room very small. Twin beds as requested. Had to move bedside table every time we needed to open the very small wardrobe. Bathroom had large walk in shower for persons with disabilities.Ok. no lid on toilet, just a seat. Food was overpriced. Only ate there once. Ok. Whole place needed a spruce up! Seems to be run on a shoe string. Would not book there again. Not sure what star it was advertised as but I would only rated as a 2. Not worth the £500+ paid for 3 nights.
Nothing
Everything was bad. So much of dust in hotel carpet. Hotel restaurants staff was very rude and food was definitely not worth touching.
There wasn’t bugs
The coffee cups in the room were not clean, the two chairs in the room had very noticeable stains all over the seats, the bedding had stains on some of the pillows and covers, the breakfast plates were almost all always dirty with food stuck to them, every coffee cup at breakfast was dirty, the cutlery was hit or miss with food still stuck to it, the water pressure in the shower was almost too low for me to use without standing directly under the showerhead which was at my forehead meaning I would have needed to crouch while showering entirely, I did need to crouch while washing my hair, the water pressure also seemed to be dependant on the adjacent room and would go from barely usable to just a trickle, this was also the same for the water temperature until on my last morning where there was just no hot water at all. This is not including points where I just didn’t use it much and so didn’t care but still noticed like the hall carpets where some spots had enough dust in the corners to hide all the colour and other bits had been worn through to have the carpet material strands pulling out
Good location, friendly staff and spacious room.
Outdated, noisy in the morning, a car engine running for a few hours next to room woke me up at 7am. TV didn’t work. Small double bed.

The location was perfect
We booked 2 nights in a de luxe room, for £500 inc breakfast. Very poor facilities, restricted times for dining room. 2 lamps with broken fittings. 2 windows with broken handles, POOR quality pillows and duvet. Only handwash in the shower cubicle!! No lift in the hotel so difficult for some people carrying suitcases upstairs to the 2nd floor. Decor old and shabby. A conservatory was more modern and used for dining. I would never recommend this hotel. £250 inc breakfast Would never recommend thu
The position was nice
Very strict breakfast times!
The service at the bar and restaurant was very poor. Quality of the food was very average. I'd have expected more from a 4* hotel. Room was hot and uncomfortable. The decor is very dated and tired.
Service was poor.Nobody at reception. Had to go looking for staff to get a drink at the bar and check out.
The location is lovely. A beautiful view of Ben Nevis and next to the Caledonian Canal. It should have been perfect.
Starting with difficulty in booking the room. Our room was dirty and poorly maintained and the bathroom was filthy. Apart from a linen change it had not been cleaned from previous guests. The restaurant service was slow and the food poor. We were overcharged on the bill and was told it was too difficult to have a refund. On departure at 9am there were no staff on reception to discuss our experience. The hotel seems more interested in catering for large coach parties who will never return rather than individual bookings.
The location
Disappointed to find breakfast was not included. Made the stay more expensive than we had thought Shower over bath no pressure and been as I am recovering from a knee replacement was too deep to get in to
Very good location on the canal. Pretty garden.
Very disappointed the amount of money I was paying I thought the hotel was going to be first class. It turned out to be unfit. The hotel is very shabby and needs a total upgrade. Our en suite bathroom had chipped rusty fittings, black, moldy bath mat, and shower curtains a cracked wash basin, rubber seals hanging loose from the shower screen, which was broken. We were staying for two nights, unfortunately, and on returning to our room on the second day, we found housekeeping had not been in so our waste paper bins hadn’t been emptied our tea, Coffee facilities hadn’t been replenished. We spoke to the lady on reception who was always very polite and friendly, and she sorted it for us. Also, the food was poor and the Service in the dining room at dinner time was also poor. The lady who was on the breakfast service was very helpful and friendly. Such a shame as we were really looking forward to our stay there sorry to say we were not sad to leave and will never return.
Niente
Beautiful views from the garden. Staff were lovely.
Property is quite dated, modernisation needed.
Rooms were spacious and well kept. Hotel flexible around our dogs staying there and altered our room with minimal effort. Staff very friendly and approachable - nothing was not too much trouble. Good breakfast with plenty choice. Location excellent with good walks in the vicinity. Overall great stay.
Everything was very good - nothing that we didn’t like! Slightly expensive but still reasonable.
Nicht zum empfehlen
Schmutzig.. unfreundliches Personal ..
Comfortable room and good-sized, clean en-suite facilities. Good evening meal. Attractive enclosed garden.
Breakfast mediocre - poor value for money. As overnight residents, we found the eager demand for payment for meals offensive. Payment for our evening meal was requested as we left the restaurant and payment for breakfast was requested before being shown to a table. Access to the Neptune's Staircase not obvious from the hotel - we only found the access to/from the restaurant after going through the carpark and round the side of the hotel. No secure cycle storage offered - we were touring by cycle.
Location and staff. Not stayed in a hotel that made us feel as welcome as that for long time.
Nothing
Incapabale staff at restaurant, mixing up multiple orders, some of our meal got forgotten altogether, along with half our drinks, nad in general we did not get what we ordered
Lage
Sauberkeit

Location
Nothing
The location was convenient for our car trip to Glencoe.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but there are a few areas that could be improved. The hotel feels a bit dated, and the rooms could benefit from some renovation. There was a musty smell in both the room and the corridor when we arrived, although it disappeared after we aired the room for a while. The breakfast was okay, but we found the selection and taste rather average.
Loved the room
Meals could be so much better. Quality was very low for the price
The hotel was way overpriced in relation to its tired persona. I paid £190 nightly and still had to pay an extra £15 per breakfast. It no where near compared with Fishers Hotel at Pitlochry and that was considerably cheaper.
Upgraded my room due to it being my honeymoon. Beautiful view.
Had a bit of a wait to get our order taken at the restaurant.
Ideal locations for the Jacobite train, Neptunes Staircase right out the front door being overlooked be Ben Nevis. The largest mountain in Scotland.
No fridge in the bedroom.
rien
The location is exceptional.
It is very very tired. Needs a total refurbishment. No cycle storage facilities - very poor when it’s on a national cycle route. Staff service was very mixed. None of it was great but lots of it was poor. Not worth the money and were surprised that Hampton by Hilton put their name to it!
Location , accepts dogs , very spacious room with a view out of both windows, brilliant comfy bed , pillows well that’s everyone’s diff preference but comfy enough. Breakfast fabby x anything and everything for all needs. Good decent background music on x good bar x didn’t have evening meal but when we were there plenty people in dining room xx
Nothjng really x gave us what we needed , a bit pricey but at this time of year that’s what it is everywhere and I would go back again x
Personale sorridente e super disponibile. Posizione.
Staff was so cordial and professional. Gardens were beautiful. Had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the canal. Bathroom had a big soaking tub!! We watched several tall-masted sailboats as they went through the locks. Great walking trails along the river and around the hotel. Need to drive into downtown. Had a light supper in the restaurant, soup and salad, which was delicious. Breakfast was choice of buffet or order from menu, which we chose. Eggs benedit and eggs royale was delicious. Really enjoyed our 1 night.
Nothing negative. Expect "touristy" crowd during the day as people came to watch the boats and locks. This was nothing negative as we were part of those Tourists!!

Carpet dirty Hotel understaffed
Staff ok . Good location and canel
Needs updating. Especially painting and cleaning of carpets in bar area and steps to bar area. Definitely not a four star . 2 star rating Could be a great place if owners put money into hotel
Nice place
Nothing
Staff were helpful and pleasant
It is outdated and definitely not a 4star rating.
An amazing situation right on the canal, but the hotel was old & very tired. Many things in our room were far from satisfactory. However it happened to be a very warm afternoon with sun streaming into our room, but a fan could not be provided. Considering the excessive cost of a stay here, we felt this was far from satisfactory. Breakfast was very basic where everything was mass produced, no local ingredients or even fresh rolls!
Most things. Not accommodation I would stay at again or recommend.
The room was nice and so was the breakfast
Its a bit tricky to get to
Staff were very nice and the food was great.
Nice location at Banavie on Neptune’s staircase. Some staff were very helpful and caring
No hot water in the mornings - shower was like warm on 2 mornings and the other was freezing cold - we stayed 3 nights. Was not a 4 star - room was very small for an accessible room - little space for wheelchair to move around in the space. Heating was a very outdated radiator and had a broken lock on bathroom window so couldn’t open. Needs significant update. Was very expensive for the money, as was the food. Sadly 1 member of the party was very sick having eaten in the restaurant
