Lovely breakfast, plenty of parking, and helpful staff.
Nor a lot.
Old fashioned and quirky Great parking Great staff and owner
breakfast good, room comfortable, easy transport into town on bus,
Not able to provide freezer space for freezer blocks. No obvious reception process and somewhat Fawlty-esque approach to customer service
Very cosy, olde worlde! Loved it. Bed was comfortable and the room was lovely & cool. The breakfast was really good and Cherry the owner was very friendly & helpful.
Nothing.
The lovely lady on the front desk , the garden and lovely view from the room
Nothing
Host was lovely and so helpful. Breakfast was tasty. A quaint old fashioned stay in a building over 500 years old. Definitely recommend
A comfortable traditional British hotel in a historic setting. Ample car parking.
L'hotel typiquement anglais, ancien mais joliment décoré et propre L'accueil chaleureux des propriétaires, et disponible pour des conseils touristiques Le parking privé Le petit déjeuner (breakfast) délicieux et bien fourni
Average breakfast, but very comfortable hotel
Location was ideal for visiting family in Trull and watching cricket in Taunton. Only 30mins to get to Exeter which is also great city to visit. Breakfast options were great, and cooked to order. Bathroom very clean
The hosts were very welcoming and helpful during my stay. The hotel is very eclectic, a super lounge area / reading room. The patio is large and a perfect place to sit in the sun and read a book or paper. Rooms were well stoeked with all amenities and very clean too. good location in the village with a Post Offcie and a local shop nearby and its directly across the road from a nice pub. The Full English breakfast was excellent ! also with a good range of cereal / fruit / yoghurts etc. If I am in the area again I will certainly stay there .
Nothing it was a very comfortable stay
Really lovely outside area and quirky style. Welcoming check in.
Would like more of a stocked tea and coffee facility. Stingy with the cooked breakfast. Needs more sleeping pillows. One of the members of staff was very condescending
Unique, listed hotel. Room spotlessly clean. Staff very welcoming and professional.
Pretty property, lovely inside.
The location was very good. We were to spend the day on the West Somerset Railway which was about a ten minute drive away. Very friendly staff and an excellent breakfast
The bedroom did not meet our expectations, nothing like any of the bedrooms shown on Booking.com website. Wallpaper peeling on bathroom walls. The bed was not to our liking (way too soft) but that's a personal preference
Nice, clean
Interesting historic building, oak beams, themed rooms and a lot of intriguing antiques. Good parking. Very good breakfast cooked to order.
It was in a lovely village location but not far from Taunton. The hotel itself was quaint and interesting with a nice outside space and good car park. Breakfast was really lovely and the staff were friendly and obliging
Nothing ….it was exactly what we needed
El desayuno excelente y el trato igual.
Courteous staff
Some Biogas smell throughout the stay duration.
Lovely location, good value, great breakfast.
Lovely proper old fashioned hotel. Owner was charming and informative. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are all lovely. Breakfast was great. Great location for exploring the area and for the Steam Train from Bishop's Lydeard. Free parking is always a bonus.
There was nothing that we didn't like. Some bits are due a refresh but nothing was annoying or stopped us having a lovely time. The walls are very thick (nothing they can do) so the wifi is slightly tempramental.
Very welcoming. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Rooms and communal areas were very clean. Plenty of parking. Very good en suite facilities. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation in the area.
It was all good
Quaint and comfortable.
Mix of tourists and business people as a clot of single rooms. Seemed to prioritise the people on business for breakfast timings.
The room was ok but very oldy worldy and creaky floor
The attitude on several occasions from the host/owner
The location was fantastic for us as we spend are days in the hospital that was les than 10 minutes away
Nothing the foetal was everything we could ask for
Lovely room.

Disappointing (sorry!) after reading the reviews, very dated. Asked for a bath didn’t get one, very compact room, no views, full English wasn’t full, no beans!!
Lovely lady running it. Very friendly. Easy parking. Lovely village. Nice garden.
Bed was too soft and shower was tiny.
Breakfast was excellent and Cherry is a knowledgeable and caring host.
The only minor point and I can't fault the owner for this, but the guests upstairs were extremely noisy. Its a very old and beautiful building, but sound does carry.
I wasn't made aware that the restaurant wasn't open on Monday night when I booked the hotel.
Nice old building
Dusty Too much decor collecting dust
The location was fine as it suited the type of property. Breakfast was hot and very tasty. The bedroom, although small, had everything I needed and more. It was extremely comfortable and well presented. I particularly liked the furnishings and how it was styled. I had the best nights sleep in months.
I liked everything, it was perfect for me. No complaints and I can’t think of anything that would have made my stay any better. I didn’t like that I couldn’t stay longer.
Had a lovely 1 night stopover & a super fresh breakfast. Lovely hotel

It has character
Historical, friendly feel!
Lady was so friendly, welcomeing even the dog was welcome, breakfast was really nice, bed was so comfy sheets were the softest bedding ive ever slept in x
We arrived late and the restaurant wasnt open so had to walk find food but wasnt far so ok
Comfy bed
Had to leave my dog unattended in the bedroom whilst we had breakfast, asked if we could eat breakfast outside ,no was the answer . And couldnt take her in the dinning room
Great staff and lovely breakfast
Comfy bed and nice shower.
Limited cooked breakfast menu unless you like full English, but continental had nice mixed berries and yoghurt. Nowhere to wait for check in except a very hot garden.
Breakfast was excellent. Lots of choice for fruit yogurts and cereals. Cooked breakfast was tasty and a good size. The hotel is spotlessly clean and there were plenty of towels and a tea/coffee facilities provided in the room. The outside area was also nice and we sat out there for dinner; we couldn’t take our dog into the dining area, which I didn’t find unreasonable. Staff were friendly and made us feel comfortable during our stay. They were quite dog friendly and there was no extra charges included.
I found the bed particularly hard and ended up sleeping on the chaise lounge. However, the dislike of the mattress was a personal preference as my husband found it very comfortable. It is not very clear when booking that any evening meals required are via a Chinese takeaway option; there is no evening catering at the hotel and only breakfast is cooked on site. However, there is a good selection and once the food was delivered the hotel served this to us properly, rather than out of containers (on the plus side our curry was quite tasty).
Very goodNothin
Nothing
Not much
The room had no fan and was 30 degrees upstairs! It also smelt funny and very tired, dirty. Grumpy guy when I turned up and grumpy woman serving breakfast. Not what I expect. Think a food standard visit is due
Loved the atmosphere of Meryan house. Decor was amazing and the owners were so friendly. Room was great, bed comfy, good drink facilities. Nice pub across the road. Breakfast was a clear 10/10..poached eggs were delicious!
We couldn't stay longer
The location was ideal for our trip and it was very quiet
The room was way too cluttered, less unnecessary furniture and a bigger bed would have been a lot better
Lovely village location just outside of taunton. The family who run this hotel are lovely too, and breakfast is truly 5 stars.
We did find it odd that the door is locked at 11, however a keycode is available so if youre out late you arent locked out.
Noem het ouderwets, maar de nostalgie die er is.
Douche in een bad
We used it to break the journey up to Devon. Only 10mins off the M5 so perfect. Nothing flash about it- probably a bit tired but a nice welcome, clean and a good breakfast. Perfect for our one night stay.
They advertise breakfast from 7.30 midweek- we asked for 8am and was put off until 8.30- my fault I should have insisted on 8am- it just made us a little late getting to our destination.
Room was comfortable, well equipped and spacious. A basic breakfast was provided before breakfast service began as I was leaving early. Staff were excellent throughout.
An observation rather than a criticism. The mattress was extremely soft, though it was comfortable.
Good to have a decent-sized single room, and a comfortable bed too. Beautiful decor throughout and lots of artistic interest. A hotel - and a village - with a history. I enjoyed a walk round Netherclay Community Woodlands, recommended by the hotel staff.
The garden has potential and is obviously work in progress, with a generously sized seating area.
Very pretty
It’s charm
Friendly staff , clean room, good food, character house, plenty of parking and well kept gardens
No complaints
Stained chairs in room. Wallpaper peeling. Bed uncomfortable. No guidance in room to facilities. No food offered in the evening. Arrived at the same time as a Just Eat delivery.
Rustig hotel direct aan de fietsroute LeJog. Uitgebreide (Chinese kaart) en goe ontbijt. Behulpzaam personeel
Nice breakfast. Nicely decorated.
The room was very nice but very small with poor ventilation. The TV blocked the window which only slightly opened. No Milk for morning coffee.
Beautiful old building, excellent breakfast and dinner
Absolutely no effort made to make stay comfortable during hottest June ever - no sun umbrellas in garden, no bottled water or fridges in bedroom , no fans or air conditioning anywhere in the building.Badly stocked bar. No choice and only just able to have a gin and tonic., due to lack of tonic and only 1 gin, no sign of anything more interesting. Offered Sauvignon blanc when we asked for two glasses of white wine. but then could only provide Chardonnay - not sure what would have happened if we asked for a whole bottle rather than just a glass! When I tried to mention that a fan in the room would of been helpful as we had spent an unbearably hot night, the owner told me it was one of their cooler rooms and had previously been complimented! It is a great shame as with just a few simple tweaks this could be a lovely hotel, but due to the extreme heat and no efforts to make our stay more comfortable we had to cut our stay short. Dinner arrangements are a little unusual with the restaurant only providing a chinese takeaway menu albeit served in very pleasant restaurant environment and it was very good quality and enjoyable so that not the problem . It the lack of even very basic things like water and fans in rooms.I dont normally complain but felt so uncomfortable had to mention I understand nobody can prevent heatwaves we are hot in our own homes but simple precautions like ensuring air flow in rooms and providing hydration would of made all the difference.
The whole package is excellent. Friendly staff and the evening menu is very very good.
Our stay there.
Great location…
Beds uncomfortable Too much tat
Parking for free .location easy to find breakfast was first class every thing available quick service I only booked 1 night but I would book again if I need to in future
There was nothing to not like about my visit
Het was heel persoonlijk. Het diner was verrukkelijk, tweemaal! De douche was.prima..
Het bed was prima maar een beetje smal.
Nothing to like
The owners attitude. We had made it very clear on our booking we wanted a 3pm arrival. When we arrived we were accused of entering the reception without permission, the room wasn't ready as requested and this was important to us, we were told to go for a walk until the room was ready. The photos on the website need updating
Easy to locate, met by pleasant owner who explained everything to me. Room was a fair size for a single. Great bathroom 🚻 facilities. Breakfast really nice & served by pleasant staff. Easy chk out, had taken payment, which I orefer. Shall stay again if in the area, cannit fault.
The family, especially Sherry, helping to keep history alive in Taunton. Beautiful house.
Everything spot on.
Preisgünstig Sehr gutes Frühstück Witzige Einrichtung
Zu kleines Zimmer, das zusätzlich sehr voll gestellt war. Unfreundliches Personal Teilweise schmuddelig
Beautiful hotel in lovely spot. Relaxing lounge Pretty outside area.
Water running all night meant sleeping on the floor in another room
Location
Charging £46 for burger and chips and then getting it from a takeaway and serving it on plates in the restaurant. Also how can 6 cans of coke and 2 small Famous Grouse whiskeys come to £45? Absolute rip off!!!!
Location for us
Room not ready until 1630 after agreement 1500 hrs Breakfast 0730 - 0900 unable to get until 0830 and told we were unimportant. Day 2 breakfast unable to get at 0830 and expected us to take a walk until ready.. The owner Lady was extremely rude and treated us not as guests, but as slaves to do as we are told, dreadful hotel mattress and facilities, would not stay there again and never had the last breakfast, we just left.
Breakfast was excellent with good range of fruit, cereals and cooked food with tea/coffee, orrange etc..Spot on thanks.
All good
The History Behind it was amazing.
We felt that the glass protection on the top of the old furniture should have something to prevent the glass from sliding before there was an injury.
Comfiest beds ever. Great breakfast. Nice family.
Breakfast. Value for money. Hotel style.
Rooms very well appointed if a little dated
Excellent in every way. We had a wonderful stay and the family were so welcoming. Our room was beautiful and quiet. Everything was charming and of a very high standard. The dinner was delicious. Would recommend.
Amazing olde worlde furniture and feathered bed. Lovely staff
Cherry (the owner) met me on arrival and made me feel at home straight away. The rooms were beautiful, warm, clean and very comfortable, with all the modern requirements. (TV, WIFI, ensuite, tea, coffee etc). Breakfast was a veritable feast; with everything you could possibly want. Thank you Cherry for a fantastic stay!
Nothing. All good!
Location and general atmosphere.
Nothing
Amazing place. Only marked down because no room fans were available at it was very hot
Very friendly hosts and lovely to chat with the other guests in the bar area.
Lovely friendly hosts
Friendly and helpful staff.
Poor access for wheel chair users.
Breakfast was good but late arrivals not really welcome and lack of service at the reception and bar when we arrived.
Believed we would have access to bar services which were needed after long hot day.
Friendly and helpful
Wonderful stay felt like home friendly team. Peaceful sleep, great shower, lovely garden to settle in with drink taking in the views and great breakfast.
Very kind staff, great breakfast in manor like atmosphere 🙂
Lovely big room. Bath as well as shower. Very clean
Make sure you don't get directed by your satnav down the small back room.
Very clean and quaint

A lovely old house with a lot of period furniture. And a great breakfast.

Supergezellig en authentiek hotel!
Only the location.
The owners are extremely rude. I’d booked for a relative of ours for two nights. On the second night our relative was stopped at the door being told “you can’t come in you haven’t paid!” Had I been with my relative I would have had something to say, unfortunately (or fortunately for the owners) I wasn’t. When I went to then pay the bill and sort it out so my relative was able to be allowed back in… (my details were on booking.com and the exact same card was used to pay) we were told that because my relative was ‘travelling light’ they thought it was a ‘scam’, it also appears that my relatives bag had been gone through.. At the time I was quite taken aback at the attitude but upon reflection this is totally unacceptable. We were also told that we should have booked direct to get a better deal.. we’d already tried that and the price quoted was double! Ontop of this, when going for breakfast at 8.10am which was between 8-9am time slot, my relative was told “I have to get my workers breakfast first, if everyone came down together there’s not enough room for everyone” All in all not a great experience and won’t be using again even if it is the most convenient location for us.
Really good breakfast. Quirky, arty decor in an interesting old building. Enjoyed sitting in the sumptuously eccentric lounge before dinner.
The whole place could do with decorating. Paint coming off windows etc. Dinner was described in the menu as being supplied by "our offsite catering facility". This turned out to be the local chinese restaurant, and was even served to us in the plastic containers. Why don't they just tell you this? On check out, I was disturbed at having to pay for breakfast in cash. Yes, it did say this on Booking.com but I had missed this. Interesting... And I don't know why the owner needs to tell me I should have booked direct and give me her political views when all I'm trying to do is check out.
Meryan House is a quaint hotel that offers very comfortable rooms. We found the manager and staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a nice bar and restaurant. The breakfast was especially good.
The floors are a bit creaky but that's the nature of the building construction
I have dietary restrictions which reduces choice however what I was able to eat was excellent. Cleanliness in the hotel is of an exceptional standard.
Made to feel welcome,bedroom spacious
Host fussing over how to book in the future
An absolute gem of a hotel, full of charm and character. A warm welcome. An overnight stay as of to a Wedding the next day but wouldn't hesitate to stay longer. The breakfast was superb, an excellent choice of cereals, choice of juices, fresh fruit and a cooked breakfast of your choice from the menu. I had bacon which was cooked to perfection, mushrooms and eggs. I was told that all locally sourced. Highly recommend Adequate parking also
There was nothing I didn't like
On site car park, room was clean
Had a private function on when we were there so no where to sit or get a drink during the day. No reception area and unfriendly first greeting, told to early to check in and to come back at 3:30pm. Breakfast overcooked/ burnt.
Nice family run hotel. Good value for money with breakfast included and off street parking.
Very clean room and friendly staff.
Nothing.
