Location and large bed
Electric sockets on only one side of the bed. Lots of indicator light visible at night and need a blind on the skylight. Would suggest more shelves for toiletries in the bathroom/wet room. There was no toilet seat. We stayed for 2 nights and the room wasn’t serviced after the first night. I think we were given an accessibility room since we were late arrivals
Missed the entrance to the hotel even using satnav, so I turned around and came right back to it. Check in was at the bar. The rooms were behind the pub in a building that may have been an outbuilding originally . The room itself was pretty basic, but was fine for the night we were there. There was a kettle for boiling water and surprisingly, it had a safe. The bathroom was pretty small. The shower worked nicely, but the tub was slippery. A bath mat in the room, without having to go ask for one, would have been nice. There were a number of items to choose from off the breakfast menu; it wasn’t a buffet. The food was ok, but food services company quality.
Central within walking distance of most facilities, couldn’t fault the accommodation everything we needed for an enjoyable stay
Nothing
Very central to the town, very kind thoughtful staff. Parking. Ground floor . Inside and outside dining.
Lovely room,good meals
No black pudding
Location good. Pub looks great but that's where it ends.
Hard beds and pillows. Breakfast advertised until 9.30am. Arrived at 9.06am to be told breakfast has finished and chef is too busy to serve us. No guests were in the pub eating or finishing their breakfast and no breakfast items were out. Nothing in literature to say when breakfast would be served but website confirmed it was until 9.30am. Suspect that chef couldn't be bothered to serve us as only ones wanting breakfast. Otherwise why was everything cleared away already if breakfast finished at 9.00am. Therefore paid for breakfast but wouldn't serve us and when we tried to protest the lady on duty was very indifferent to our plight and just reiterated that breakfast was over. Will never set foot inside that place again.
Very convenient and great parking
Breakfast was pretty dreadful
The room was excellent! It was a nice size, plenty of space, and included all facilities usually expected in a hotel room and then some. We loved the decor, the lighting, the super kingsize bed; we really appreciated the air conditioning, and wished we could have stayed for longer as my husband and I both agreed it was one of the nicest most comfortable rooms we have ever stayed in.
Unfortunately, on walking into the pub for the first time and waiting to speak with staff, our first impression was not good. The staff knew we were waiting and they smiled at us, but did not deign to talk to us until they had finished whatever it was they were doing. In a hospitality industry, customers come first. They must be treated well and prioritised otherwise they may not return. Luckily, when they did speak to us and for the rest of our stay they were quite friendly and very helpful., so no harm done. ☺️
Loved a bath in room, Katso chicken dish amazing closeness to town comfy bed good size great air conditioning and fridge in room
Sausages need to be replaced terrible, noise of motor kicking in all night next to room 1 and the lights out back way overboard so room not dark and when complained about one poor, no terrible meal no discount offered and staff didnt really care. Where’s manager, good knows who’s running the place

Great place and staff

Lovely room, very clean, smart and comfortable. Good quiet air conditioning.
The staff in the hotel were quite gruff and not terribly helpful especially when we were trying to get our breakfast. The breakfast was pretty poor unfortunately - poached eggs virtually hard-boiled - and we wished we’d gone elsewhere for brunch. A shame as the accommodation was lovely.
Great location
Aircon was a bit noisy in the middle of the night
So convenient to town. Air conditioned room was very comfortable. Great pub with excellent staff.
The location was excellent and the room was superb we will be booking again for our next stay in Bury St Edmunds
We had our evening meal and lunch the following day but found the food was for me inedible. Accommodation 10 out of 10 but the food 3 out of 10 (and I'm being generous) the staff although friendly we're totally out of their depth. We compared this to The Dog and Partridge (also Greene King) that establishment gets 10 out of 10. Chose The Fox as it has better parking and the rooms are lovely.
Friendly staff clean accommodation excellent air conditioning
Amazingly clean and luxurious such good value for money. I don't think ill bother staying anywhere else next time!
Nothing
Excellent location Really nice room Good staff & nice pub
The shower was unusable due to the high temperature. Very dangerous. I did report this issue & the staff said they would deal with. But a week before someone else reported an issue with the hot temperature
The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Parking was easy and free.very quiet location, short walk into town. Pub itself was really nice and the staff were welcoming.
The food was disappointing. Very long wait and poor quality.
The room was very clean and bed comfortable Would definitely book again

We regularly stay here. Great location with easy access to the town centre and gardens. Great bar with excellent food and drink. Very helpful staff.
Slight issue with the shower/bath in Room 1, which the staff are aware of and dealing with. Rooms would benefit from blackout curtains.
Location was excellent. Large well decorated room and large bed.
We were disappointed that breakfast was not included in the room rate. There was black mould in the velux window.
Staff were excellent, good menu. Ambiance was good. Particularly enjoyed the quiz!
Nothing to dislike.
Good location, friendly, good facilities
Good location Friendly staff
Breakfast could be offered a bit later than 09:00.
Well situated for sightseeing
Nothing
Convenient position, close to city but quiet. Off street parking. Great breakfast. Super clean, well appointed room. Friendly staff. I am sure it isn't the cheapest place to stay in Bury St Edmunds but it represents excellent value for money.
Could do with a caddy in the shower for shower gel etc.
Lovely looking. Close by to our venue. Parking for car
I thought it was expensive for 1 night. We didn’t stay 24hrs. No brekkie included in price.
Warm, comfortable, quiet stay. Will stay again and recommend
Nothing
Location was great, easy parking, nice room.
Staff seemed a little stressed and put out.
Lovely room. Lovely bed.
Good location just 10mins walk into main town, light and airy, comfortable
A little noise from the pub, but given a bank holiday it’s expected. The price reflects this slight inconvenience. A later checkout option would be nice!
Good location for the cathedral, bars and restaurants
Breakfast a bit hap hazard
Such a lovely pub in a great location. We would pick it again and I’ve already recommended
The location, the size and decor of the room, the staff were great
Close to attractions, shopping, and restaurants. (Meat&Greet)

We wanted somewhere relatively close to the centre but with its own parking. This was perfect.
Nothing
Beautifully decorated. Underfloor heating was nice too. Great location. The pub bar was really nice too. Couldn’t fault it. Would definitely stay again
Nothing. It was all great
Room comfort. Well appointed. Parking outside the room. Location.
Staff obviously overstretched. We expected a breakfast bar but had to order it from server. Thus cereal, cooked breakfast and toast arrived together. Not good. Worst thing was basin plug was missing an O ring. They knew! So we paid a fair price for a basin that could not hold water. Also, Velux needed dusting and at sometime the outside needs washing. Not difficult.
Good.
Characterful inn excellently located close to the centre of Bury St Edmunds. Room was spacious and quiet, and I had a really good sleep on the comfy mattress. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was relatively simple but very nicely cooked to order and was very tasty. Nice to be able to use the on site parking for the rest of our day in town.
No significant issues. Might have been nice to have had a cereal option with breakfast.
Location good for visiting family. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely, clean and well presented room.
Nothing - all good.
Nicely decorated clean comfortable rooms. Lovely old pub with good food. Staff all very helpful
Few spotlight bulbs in toilet need replacing but that’s a minor issue
Every single aspect was perfect. What a gem The Fox is.
Nothing
Smiles from staff, comfortable bed, design of room (exposed beams, high ceiling and view of trees), good food
Good
Room servicing was not good. We were missed one day and only minimally done when it was.
Very nice location, very warm and cosy quiet rooms.
We paid £159 with Booking.com which clearly stated STANDARD ROOM, BREAKFAST INCLUDED. Then when we departed, they said that we had only paid £139 for room Only! So we had to pay again for the breakfast. I showed staff my confirmation, but they said they had only been paid £139. So we footed the breakfast bill twice. Which was a disappointing end to a lovely stay.
The room was nice and big with great parking right outside your door :-) everything was perfect. The breakfast was very nice and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely book this venue for my next stopp over for business

The accommodation was spacious and nicely decorated, no bling thank goodness. All the basic niceties of an overnight stay were already in the room, ie coffee/tea making bits, biscuits, glass bottle water. The bathroom was also spacious and again nicely fitted out with a bath and a separate shower, although getting the water temperature right in the shower was not as easy as we would have liked. Cooked English breakfast was also very good. There was plenty of parking and the Fox is only a few minutes (less that 10) walk from the Abbey and the shops.
It would have been nice to see the more usual open display of Continental breakfast option rather than order these.
The room was a good size; large comfy bed; great shower; clean; heating and air con; tea and coffee provided; huge TV. Check in was easy.
The room was at the back of the pub in an annex in the carpark. This car park was also a walk through to a large public carpark behind - could be busy and noisy during the day. The room was a little tired in places - wobbly wooden floor planks, missing handles on cupboards. The bar man on Saturday night was quite rude when we came in at 10.30pm wanting a drink - reminding us a few times he was locking up in a few minutes. We has no intention of staying late but it made us feel uncomfortable having our drinks.
Lovely cosy room. Good location. Attached to a very nice pub
Nothing
Great location and the renovations to the rooms are fantastic
Nothing
Lovely spacious bedroom. Great food and service in the pub.
Beautiful room, friendly staff
In town. Giant bathroom, headed floor.
Everything
Beautiful and quiet room, perfectly located in the city center. Very clean and high quality interior. Food was very good too!
great breakfast,location,parking and facilities
The shower / tap water temperature was dangerously near to scalding, (why?) making a comfortable shower almost impossible. The room (#2) is rather dark, with a lightbulb missing, and was rather overheated overall,, meaning a window had to be permanently opened not to get stuffy. But overall, very good.
Excellent, clean and comfortable room in good quality and well presented ground-level accommodation with car parking close by. The bed was of a very good size as was the room. We were very warm throughout our stay (sometimes too warm!) and enjoyed eating in the main rooms of The Fox. The food on the whole was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. The Fox is pleasantly and conveniently located a few minutes walk from the Cathedral, which was the focus of our stay.
Difficult to fault this accommodation, however a bath grab rail close to the bath would have been reassuring due to my mobility issues, I was given a non-slip mat for the bath when I asked at reception which was needed. Breakfast was as stated however food is served direct from the kitchen with no buffet opportunity. My requested continental breakfast of fruit and yoghurt could have been prepared a little more carefully without added orange skins/pips and apple core to contend with! The Croissant was however delicious! These are minor issues and can easily be resolved with a little more food presentation training. The window in our room did not have a lock/opening restriction and being ground floor could have been a security issue when we left it open for a bit of fresh air.
Rooms are excellent, and excellent safe parking.
We have stayed here before and it was excellent, but let down by the breakfast service. This time was no better. Confusion with taking the orders, no buffet for fruit/cereal/toast/juice A real pity, as the accommodation is really good.
Lovely room and conveniently situated close to centre of Bury St Edmunds

The location was good and the room in an outside converted block had everything we needed and was comfortable . The wet room shower was good. There was ample parking.
We were not told in advance but were given an accessible room which meant the sink etc was at the height needed for a wheelchair user. The breakfast was ok but basic and the coffee machine was not working.
Staff are welcoming. Pottery is lovely, location is perfect on the edge of town only a 5 minute walk and your in the main town. But still quiet enough for a rest full sleep
It was old in style but very welcoming to all.
Everything! The room was gorgeous, the pub is nice and the staff very friendly. Great location too.
Unfortunately our room was the first one and you could hear a constant humming, probably from the kitchen fans?
Great location with parking
We had a few issues with the room . Pop up waste plug got stuck so couldn’t use sink til next day . Difficult to watch tv as it was set on the wall at right angles to sofa . Poor lighting for reading . One light bulb had gone and another flashed on and off . Both mornings arrived for breakfast and no staff to be found . Gluten free options poor - only bread no cereal . ( and I had notified them in advance) They ran out of cornflakes and orange juice . We got served our toast first before my husbands muesli arrived !
