The staff were were very pleasant and friendly, taking an interest in their guests. Breakfast was served within minutes of my arrival in the dining area. The hotel is in a quiet location.
Great staff
The location is the perfect walking distance from everything to see in Bury Saint Edmunds. Well kept bar, restaurant and the outdoor seating was lovely.
The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful
Friendly staff, comfy big bed, ideally located
Great location, good sized room, nice breakfast
Hotel doesn’t allow people staying overnight with e-bikes
staff were helpful. food was delicious. location was spot on. bed was comfy.
parking was tricky. parts of upstairs felt worn. shower was too hot, toilet was difficult to flush. room smelt a bit musty. tv signal was hit & miss.
Disabled room
Bedroom needed refurbishing.
A good location a short walk from the centre of the town.
It was a hot night when we stayed and there was a fan provided, but it was never as comfortable temperature wise as you might have liked. Rooms were fine, if bog standard, and a little tired and I struggled with the mattress which was really uncomfortable. The room was basically situated in the car park too which meant there were vehicles coming and going late and early right outside your window, which had to be open as it was so hot. I think I resented the price most - £95 for a night without breakfast. Bury St. Edmonds is not a cheap place to stay but this was a sub Premier Inn or Travelodge experience and I expected a price more in line with that.
The staff are so helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast good value for money
Nothing
Nothing. A very bad expe tiende
We made a reservation for 2 rooms including breakfast. The day before arrival we got a phonecall saying they had only one room available. We told them we could not accept that. They did not have another option so we had to cancel and make a booking somewhere else. And we asked to return the money we paid. Three weeks later oud money still is not paid back. A very onjuist way to earn money, more like stelling it.
Nice pub, helpful staff, check in was easy.
Room was quite hot and the window didn't open much so it wouldn't really cool down, although the fan provided in the room helped.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Nice comfy bed and clean linen and shower.
The place was tired looking. Needed a refurbishment- decor and carpets
Friendly, staff, nice evening meal, good location
Room ok wardrobe full of stuff, that shouldn't have been left in room. Spare pillows had dirty pillowcases on.
Prima locatie.
We had a great stay , very comfortable room and the breakfast was extensive and excellent, We will be back next year for the beer festival and we wil certainly be booking a room again. Highly recommended 👍
Not the fault of the venue but the neighbours bloody said dog would not stop barking throughout the night. Very annoying.
Central with car park for residents. Did not eat there but nice looking menu and good selection of non-alcoholic drinks!
Slight traffic noise as had room at front on road.
Location excellent, breakfast good
The room was small, stuffy and the carpet had a musty dirty smell.
The heat in the room
Quirky hotel
Meagre continental breakfast. Difficulty flushing toilet, only half a toilet roll for 2 day stay, only one milk in room. Had to ask for more. Got the feeling they didn’t want to give much.
Nice old friendly pub. Great location Very clean, comfortable & friendly staff. What more can one want for a little weekend away.
Nothing
Personale molto gentile e disponibile.
The staff when booking were amazing, as we're in our 80's they advised us to book room 2 as on ground floor. The shower room is huge & the bedroom so lovely & so comfortable. We will definitely recommend & stay here again. The breakfast food was delicious, well cooked & hot¹ready to start the day.
Nothing
Location - easy to find, short drive from Windsor Castle, plenty of free parking; Rooms - ground floor, decent size, surprisingly quiet, sleep quality good, solidly equipped; Wifi - worked well; Bathroom - size OK, shower and hot water worked well;
No major issues
Comfortable bed, clean linen, well sized en suite with good water pressure, very close parking. Only reservation is that the room was quite small, with little room left to walk around the double bed (queen-sized?). Friendly attentive staff. I opted for a full English which was good value for £10
Nice pub beautiful location
Pub shut very early most of the staff were very pleasant just one who never cracked a smile and barely spoke, apart from that an enjoyable stay
The staff were great, nothing too much trouble.
The rooms could have done with a deep clean. There was a delivery right outside my room at 7.10am one morning and the next morning a motorcycle parked outside my door.
Breakfast was good and very personal. A proper ground coffee would have been appreciated. The room was good and the shower facility room.4 excellent in an intetesting quirky bathroom as befits a 15 th century pub.
Nothing really but remember its a pub which has a closing time perhaps later than your bed time
The staff were very helpful and friendly, the location is great for the town centre and the rooms were nice and spacious. Comfy beds.
A bit rough around the edges but the few issues we got sorted out.
The property was pretty and just out of the hustle and bustle of the town which was nice
The cleanliness of the room was questionable the shower shelf I couldn’t use because it was hanging off the wall. The toilet didn’t flush properly and was going brown in the bottom. The cleaning needs more attention and the curtains had physical thick dust on and lots of cobwebs. We ate dinner the day we got there the steak was ok no complaints there’s Breakfast the first morning was not great eggs were hard and just felt like it had been chucked on a plate the 2nd morning was much better. Staff were lovely but in the morning they were sat having their own chats and out of the 3 times we ate there no one checked on us when we got out food just when I went to pay
Staff very nice and friendly. Breakfast was good piping hot and tasted fresh.
Extractor fan outside when we were having breakfast, and also as it was so hot outside windows had to be opened and I could hear it throughout the night. Checkout was good, however when we returned back from our meal out in the evening at around 10.15pm the pub was closed. There was a note on the door explaining that we could gain entrance to our room through the back door and there was an emergency telephone number to contact. The back entrance is quite along way round to walk at night, and I thought that this should have been explained when we arrived.
Central location, staff are very friendly and helpful
No air conditioning in room but fan was provided. Found it a bit too hot and uncomfortable to stay in during summer time despite having the fan on
Pub and food fine, staff pleasant and helpful
Room scruffy, stiflingly hot and noisy. Seriously in need of refurbishment.
Warm welcome, in fact all the staff were friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. The hotel room was clean but basic, and decor a bit dated and tired. Perfect location for us easy parking and within walking distance of the town .
Maybe a daily clean of the room and portable electric fan would of been good during the heatwave. A small niggle the offer of filter coffee rather than instant sachets .
Personnel gentil
Very good location, walking distance from town centre and on site car parking for hotel guests Friendly staff, great food, comfortable rooms.
Nothing.
Location was great & manager who checked us in was very friendly & helpful
Only provided one cup & teaspoon & 4 tea bags for two guests. Hair left on floor of bathroom. Bedside lamp broken.
Location and staff can’t fault either
All around the skirting board was rather dirty had not been cleaned a lot of stains and I had no milk in my room so I was unable to have a hot drink
Breakfast was excellent and most enjoyable Staff exceedingly helpful
Cannot think of anything
Quieter area and easy to walk to town Good food options
Steep stairs and creaky floors Old fashioned and dated
Really good
Nothing
Staff were super friendly and helpful Room was clean and bed super comfy
Menu didn’t state all cocktails that were available.
Good location. Clean & compact room.
Room compact, hot & a little dated but ok for our 1 night.
Ontvangst en de pub bij het hotel
Location, character, atmosphere. Staff were super helpful and friendly

Staff where super friendly and helpful
Stayed for couple of nights room was small and was in the car park won't want to stay more than a few days nice to have parking but a bit tight .
large bedroom and bathroom with fabulous towels. Staff very pleasent. Bar was welcoming.
We stayed during the heatwave in room 5 This was very hot even with two fans going, this made sleeping very uncomfortable. The bathroom was almost at sauna temperatures. The staff did explain that they are unable to fit air con due to listing of building. Breakfast was poor, tea and coffee was individual sachets with an urn of hot water, even though there was a coffee machine behind the bar, limited continental breakfast.
Location, room size and cleanliness
Could have had air conditioning
Excellent breakfast with many choices. You fill in a form with your selection and preferred time for breakfast, handing it in by 9pm the evening before. Hardly any waiting to be served as a result.
The cups in the room are too small - mugs would be better.
Great location staff helpful
Looks like it hasn’t been cleaned or decorated in decades. Broken blind in room, bathroom was so hot unreal ! Tv constantly losing signal, smallest tea and coffee cups I’ve ever seen. The continental breakfast no pastries lack of fresh fruit very poor .
Perfect location, comfortable room and friendly staff
NA
Central location , helpful team , good parking , good value
For the price paid , it was good .
Location is very good
Room was not serviced when we asked. So when we got back in the evening there was no toilet roll (no spare when we arrived), no coffee, tea, milk, the bed not made and the small bin was full. We complained and got some replacements and an apology. The following day we didn't ask for a room service but got one.
Great location in the centre of the historic market town, just a short walk to the market, cathedral, shops. Very easy check in and check out process. Room as to be expected for the price, amenities all functional.
Bathroom could use a refresh.
Great location with parking
Clean tidy and liked location
Good location. Has free parking. Staff very friendky
It was extremely hot in the room, we were in a heat wave but perhaps a fan would have helped
Easy to find, nice car park, and the staff especially were lovely
Room was very hot.
The location, friendliness of the staff and the room was to a decent standard. Two outside drinking/eating areas.
There should have been a non slip mat in the shower
Good location to town and the benefit of a car park. Nice and friendly staff too.
The room was very hot but we did have a fan but we did stay on one of the hottest days of the week.
The surroundings are lovely. The bedrooms are spacious. I particularly loved the dining/bar area which has stylish decor, and is well thought out - there's a place for everyone, even if you want to just be in your own space. The biggest highlight was that the staff were ever so friendly and helpful, and nothing was ever a problem. The manager sorted me out for last minute dinner and b'fast which was most appreciated.
location and staff
cleanliness
convenient. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Room was dirty - needed a good clean. Breakfast was not good. Not even a proper coffee.
Excellent location, easy to find.
Very run down, not very clean Carpets thread bare & dirty in pub & accommodation. Dining area dirty, dried food on chairs. Horrible old smell in halls & rooms. Empty & dusty diffusers Tiles in shower dirty. A lot of dust in room. Breakfast was ok! Had to pre-order which was fine but one came out wrong. Manager very helpful but needs a better work environment.
The Bushel is in the town and provides parking.
The staff were pleasant enough, but their first priority was seeing to the needs of the pub, rather than guests in rooms above the pub.
Central location
The wallpaper behind the bed was like an optical illusion😵💫 Be aware that the entrance to parking is not actually on St John’s Street.
The room was clean and spacious, just what we needed for our short stay.
The room was comfortable and clean. The location was great for the town, the train station and the bust station.
Nothing
Breakfast very good value
All good!
Perfect location
Staff were wonderful, helpful and very attentive
Nothing
Great location, room was clean and spacious. Really comfy bed and great shower. Staff were so helpful and really nice. Breakfast was excellent value. Would highly recommend
Such a great location on a fab street in Bury St Edmunds.
The room we had was in the car park and the curtains let in the light and early morning deliveries from the pub meant a lie in was thwarted. The rooms were quite warm, although a fan was provided.
Great location nice meal and good breakfast.
Nothing.
Staff were brilliant even the young girl cleaning kept going without slacking. All of them very friendly.
Every thing was great. But remember it's a very old building 100's of years old so it may not have aĺ the facilities you want. (and my steak was a bit grisly)
The Bushel is a very pleasant pub/hotel with super friendly and helpful staff. It is superbly located in the town with many nice restaurants and other amenities close by.
Nothing negative to report, it was all good.
Close to shops & restaurants Really lovely staff Good choice of drinks and menu choices Free parking
Only downfall was the room was incredibly hot due to heatwave but fan provided in room which did help
Clean and cozy room, helpful staff
N/A, it was exactly as described
Not much. The shower was ok and the towels/bedding appeared clean.
Grubby decor, gone off and limited milk/drink sachet selection, no bathroom sink mirror light.
Room size was excellent, shower was good.
There was a buzzing sound all night which I could not find the source of in the room
The Bushell is located near to both rail and bus stations. My room was very comfortable with all the facilities I required and the choice of breakfast menu was superb.
I have absolutely no complaints
Easy walk from both station and town centre. Friendly staff serving a decent breakfast. Bed comfortable and shower good. Classic rooms above a pub, not really a hotel.
Decor getting a bit tired, small tear in net curtain and carpet. Live music in bar on Saturday night was very loud in the room, it stopped before I went to bed but worth checking when if you want a quiet evening in your room.
Great location, that's why I chose it,great price and had parking
Not really anything I did not like
Everything
It was all good and very central to town
Location and near to bus station. Not noisy at night.
O
Very friendly and helpful
Not so great if you’ve not got great mobility, lot of steps and the stairs are very narrow and steep
great bit of dinner, very good breakfast.
The bed was comfortable, I slept very well!
My boyfriend slept well, but he was woken up during the night by a guest who was next door. The hotel walls are quite thin, which caused him to wake up to the guest talking. Another bad thing was that the next day we went to have breakfast. Of course, it was 10:30 in the morning, but the attendant told us to look at the menu and choose what we wanted. But when we went to order the food, they said they couldn't, that breakfast wasn't available. We were a little confused, since he told us to look at the menu and choose what we wanted. Another equally important detail is that the television in the room is not a Smart TV, so we practically couldn't watch what we wanted. The room could also be better ventilated. It had a slight (damp, closed) smell.
excellent location in St Johns street where there are lots of lovely independent shops. car park a real bonus. Massive walk-in shower Really helpful staff. Good breakfast
lots of steps in the pub--but it is old. Stairs to room a bit of a challenge. there are ground floor rooms (didn't know that) or I would have booked it
The receptionist who greeted us was excellent - polite, cheerful and very helpful. We also liked the proximity to the town centre.
The breakfast arrangements - the request form was not really fit for purpose so difficult to be sure and clear what you were ordering. Disorganised in terms of not having juice glasses, cereal bowls, etc on hand without asking. Difficult arrangement for making tea. Staff less cheerful and helpful than receptionist. - almost surly. Requested rooms close together - couldn't have been further apart. First come, first served car parking places not made clear on initial booking.
Breakfast cofee was cool and week
Location
Small room
Newly refurbished and room was lovely. Very welcoming staff.
Tv said ‘no signal’. Staff the next morning suggested it might be a loose connection. Breakfast was rather underwhelming.
