Welcoming and helpful staff from the start of our stay which continued throughout. Comfortable room which was well appointed and maintained. Enjoyable food well prepared and good value for money. In a good location an easy walk into the town centre. Overall a lovely historic building which provides the best of what you would expect from a top pub in terms of atmosphere, food and drink and, a comfortable place to stay.

The only comment I would make is that as not being an early riser it would have been good if breakfast could be served to a little later time. This is a minor point which does not affect my high regard for the service provided.

It was in a great location and very welcoming.

Nice comfortable room with good facilities. Bathroom was very clean and the bed a good size. Nice to have a fridge in the room. Free parking nearby is a real positive. Also provided plant based milk which was a nice touch.

breakfast was limited with fruit looking a bit tired and limited vegan options (e.g. no margarine/vegan butter). I had a room adjacent to the road so did get noisy with cars as I am a light sleeper.

Only one point. We should have been advised about booking for dinner as one evening the entire pub was reserved.

Room was very spacious and comfortable. Shower leaked onto floor but was clean. Could have done with bottled water in room.

Breakfast was not very good I had scrambled eggs which did not look v appealing and v small portion. Coffee was awful and out of a thermos flask. Tables were sticky.

Room 8 involved climbing a number of stairs. It wasn't a problem for us but might have been for some guests

Excellent location, room had a lovely view of the abbey and had clearly been refurbished recently. Easy to pop into town! Good parking too, and breakfast was good value.

Bedroom was good, food was good, really good outdoor space with a good atmosphere.

We stayed during the very hot weather and air conditioning was needed. With climate change they should be looking into installing it.

Perfect location to explore Bury St Edmunds. Excellent food. Friendly staff.

Drawers that didn't open so nowhere to put our clothes apart from coathangers. The drawers were just drawer fronts.

Breakfast was lovely. Room spacious and clean. Location was excellent 2/3 minute walk into town. Free parking. Easy to find. Great atmosphere in the pub in the evening.

Our room was looking into the road so was a little noisy in the evening and early hours of the morning. Would request a room the other side next time.

The shower couldn’t be made cold/cool in room 2. The fan provided was super dusty and I found someone else’s earring on the floor. The bathroom had mould in the tiles and a damp ceiling and the radiators were super dusty. Our fridge also didn’t go cold.

Nicely designed and well-furnished. Easy access from parking and didn't have to squeeze through busy pub. Lovely pub garden right outside. Nice cooked breakfast with delectable pastries. Location is perfect for visiting the cathedral and sightseeing.

Lack of air-conditioning; sizeable portable fan was supplied but was a bit creaky and dusty. Bathroom was nicely designed and looked fresh, but sacrificing some better functionality for that traditional look, i.e, sink with relatively short double taps, awkward shower placement.

We were 7 of us, staying a hotel to attend birthday party, I was with my partner other friends who were staying by themselves had much bigger rooms, we booked same time same price room, we thought why they didn’t give us bigger room for couple, we had no space to move between bed Tap in bathroom was broken, shower head was not clean full of limescale, WiFi doesn’t work, same WiFi to pub and hotel rooms

Room was clean, well equipped and in the heatwave there were plenty of windows open and a fan.

Pillows were a little flat but otherwise it was great.

Location and food were excellent would definitely recommend to friends and family hope to return for a family visit in future instead of business.

Lovely hard working staff and great food & beer! Restaurant was very understanding of my wife’s food intolerances (chef spent time with her to discuss options).

Carpark can be a bit tricky to enter and to find a space.

Th hotel was ideally situated for the Theatre Royal where we were visiting. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Standard of housekeeping

Classic English inn and pub with great food and service. The rooms were well maintained, quiet and super close to Bury center with a free car park. The food - perfect! I may be partial … I left my passports and credit cards there, and the manager, Adam, notified me and remedied the situation.

I turned up by car after a long journey to find I had no parking, so I had to find a place in the town, near the Dog and Partridge. This offered free parking until 8pm the next day. I walked to the car park early, before breakfast, to retrieve the car before the deadline, drove it back to the D&P, only to find that the car park was still full, so I set off again in the car and found a street with free parking until 9am. I left the car there, and walked back for a shower and breakfast. All this being said, on my second day at the D&P I did find a place in the small car park at the D&P, which was a relief. If other guests have had the same problem, perhaps you should devise a car park booking form to allow guest-parking at the D&P, even though this means that guests will need to sharpen up the times when they will specifically require parking. Beyond this groan, I was very happy with my stay at the D&P.

We found the staff very helpful, the room was spacious (with much needed fan) and the enormous bed was very comfortable. We really loved our stay and wished we were staying longer!

Comfortable bed, modern bathroom with large walk-in shower. Large tv in bedroom. Fan to keep us cool at night. Good food and nice bar with excellent beer. Great location, close to the town centre.

The bedroom was a bit small. We did notice that other bedrooms were much larger.

The manager is excellent….. and the staff welcoming. For a business traveller it does exactly what it says on the tin… in out no nonsense. Have stayed in all rooms.. bathrooms are excellent.

Be there by 6 if you want parking. Jenga ninja skills required.

Very nice pub with smart well equipped rooms. It’s also worth noting that the room was absolutely spotless. The complimentary beers in the room were also appreciated. Great location just a couple of minutes walk to the town centre. Comprehensive restaurant menu serving lovely food. Breakfast is also very nice with a good selection to choose from. The ales are also fab particularly as the Green King brewery is over the road. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights here. Nice relaxed pub with everything you need.

As a point of note, park is available for guests but limited so get there early. Otherwise, there is plenty of parking in the town.

We booked this at short notice as we thought our dog would be admitted to the vet and we needed to be close by. This did not end up happening, and so within an hour of making the booking, I called to see if they would take a dog, which they said they would not, and so I informed them that we would need to cancel this booking. They told me i would have to do this through booking.com and did not say this would be a problem. When booking.com put in the request, they refused and kept our money. I then went back to ask if we could change the date so we didnt lose our money and they never replied. I appreciate they have to have certain policies in place to stop people taking the piss but we felt this was really unfair considering the circumstances. So we did not end up staying, it cost us £130 just to have this booking confirmed for one hour. We wont be booking again or recommending them to anyone.

Very attractively designed and decorated, in a quiet building next to the pub. Comfortable bed and excellent en-suite facilities. The pub is most attractive with an excellent selection of beers, gins etc. Lovely atmosphere. Car park at rear was very useful and within walking distance of Abbey and town centre. Staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Room was spotless and in a perfect location for our concert in the cathedral and shopping trip. I'm coeliac and ate in the pub and didn't get ill which is a rarity for me when I eat it as very sensitive.
