Location & staff excellent
Steps at front door.
Good. Staff only ok, not particularly friendly
Above
Location is good. The room was well laid out even though it looked out on a brick wall. We didn't use any of the facilities there, restaurant or bar.
Some staff were impressive in their indifference to our existence. They're in the wrong job. Parking is inconvenient across 3 locations and costly.
Excellent location
The cosy bar area
The location was good and the toiletries were nice.
Unfortunately it was a very noisy night a lot ot people leaving and entering the rooms and the sound proofing is not great. The bed linen and towels and rooms were a little tired and old. The bed was very springy and the pillows were not fluffy and comfortable. I thought it would have the Hilton touch but failed to see it .
The best thing about the hotel is the location close to the Cathedral and the High Street. St Albans is a lovely city. The hotel was clean and comfortable but not exceptional. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was good
The only lounge was a quite small bar area. There was no information about facilities (e.g. breakfast times, room service, local restaurants) provided in the rooms either on paper or on the tv
The location was excellent.
I had specifically asked for a high room with a walk in shower. Initially given 1 on lower ground floor with shower only accessible by stepping into the bath. Immediately returned to reception & was met by miserable staff. Reluctantly found me a room with shower on lower floor. Very depressing decor & facilities right beside door to outside!!
Reception staff were nice.
Room was dirty, bed was old and creeky.
Room was superb and ideally located on ground floor. Very clean and spacious but could do with a few more coat-hangers. Bar area was cosy with excellent service. Breakfast was really good. Very tasty fresh cooked breakfast with help-yourself cereals and toast etc. Great service.
Fortunately we were allocated a parking bay in the small Car park 1. It would have been a problem from the other car parks as I have a lung condition which makes walking far a problem. Nothing more to add, it's a great place run by excellent attentive staff.
Clean, comfortable
Room extras missing. Value.
Staff were very good, especially at reception/ at the bar.
Location
The breakfast was the worst I’ve ever had in a 4star hotel. Shocking
Have stayed before, did not have breakfast as we have relatives close by.
Wish there was more parking closer
Frábær staðsetning, góð aðstaða, fallega innréttað hótel. St Albans er yndislegur bær.
Dýr morgunverður. Enginn ísskápur. Mæli með að fara á nálæga staði í morgunmat.
The room was modern, clean and quiet. Opposite the cathedral and a short walk into town. St Albans is a lovely, lively town. A great place for a couple of nights
Car park, a long walk and £7.50 per night. I think that when you are charging over £150 per night, the room should have a Nespresso machine as well as a kettle. Instant coffee is no longer acceptable
Decor is lovely, location fantastic.
No water in rooms
Good location
Quite disappointed to find that there was not so much as a bottle of water in the room - given the weather in the UK the very least a couple of bottles of water should be more than appropriate Also the bathroom isn’t clean at all - take a look at the toilet seat I accept it’s probably been wiped but certainly hasn’t been properly cleaned as you can clearly see splash marks on it - photos attached Wanted just a sandwich for lunch upon checking in, only pizza or a cheese board available I’m a blue badge holder, I ended up not using your car park as it was impossible to get out of my car due to the very small disabled parking space and cars parked either side
Location was excellent and room was very clean
Nothing!
Location and quality of finish.
Room was small for the price Breakfast was not great for the price
Position in town
The staff were very helpful and great location.
The rooms were a little basic for an expensive rate - the bed was quite small and noises from people walking above were very loud meaning it wasn’t a great nights sleep.
Location could not have been better. Room was comfortable and quiet. Everywhere was very clean. Staff were all very pleasant and the breakfast was good.
It would have bern nice to have a comfortable lounge area. There was only a small bar. There was parking but the main car park was some distance from the hotel - a good 5 minute walk.
Location was excellent. Staff were amazing. Parking was good and secure
Price
Location, cleanliness and facilities were ideal.
Always stay here.
Parking is a pest but as long as you’re fit no problem.
easy to find and park, comfortable spacious room
Clean and modern
Parking was full. Had to go to another parking which is further away
The location is excellent, very close to the historic centre, and the air conditioning worked well. The staff were also friendly and helpful
The breakfast was poor, with a very limited selection, tasteless food, and coffee from the machine which didn’t taste good at all… The room was not good value for money—we’ve stayed in much nicer hotels for half the price. The toiletries were only half full on arrival, which felt like another example of cost-cutting. The worst part was the fire alarm, which went off several times (at night too) and woke our seven-month-old baby. Reception told us it was being triggered by guests taking steamy showers. Fire alarm looked old, suggesting this is an ongoing issue that hasn’t been fixed.
Nice clean comfortable room. Great location.
Nothing was great for a night stay
Great location , small but adequate parking facilities and could walk everywhere in town.
Some of the bathroom facilities were a little dated
Hotel close to main road but very quiet. Rooms looked nice. Very comfortable room temperature. The breakfast was very good - both continental and English. The English breakfast was available on order and freshly made.
It was central and in a beautiful building, it felt like a luxury hotel and certainly charged those prices.
No mini bar No water in the bedrooms Continental breakfast had run out of fruit at 9 am and looked un replenished. The hotel felt like there was no one in charge
Excellent central location, quiet and pleasant room, clean and comfortable.
Breakfast good but not outstanding.
Very comfortable bed and pillows
The breakfast really wasn’t good value for money.
Comfortable beds
Parking was too far away
Average
Poor value for money.
Comfortable modern room - very well appointed. Decent breakfast. Friendly attentive staff. Parking at the rear. Ideal for exploring St. Albans.
Nothing we did not like.
Breakfast was v good
Location and the building was lovely
Bathroom lighting too dark for women to get ready in mirror
Hotel was well located , opposite the Cathedral and in easy reach of shops and restaurants . Room was clean and in good order. Breakfast was good but I would have appreciated more fresh fruit in the buffet ( I know red fruits could be ordered from the main menu though ) and muesli rather than sweet cereals.
It would have been good to have bottled water provided in the room , rather than have to go and ask at reception . Coffee mugs were too large for the coffee machine !
Location
View was a block wall
Some staff were helpful - others not.
Booked the suite, as a special occasion. Took 2 members of staff to get the A/C working - in a room that was already over 33 degrees Celsius. (Why had no one thought of putting the A/C on, on what was a heatwave?) Bathroom was even hotter and no way of reducing the temperature - staff said no A/C in the bathroom - so was like walking into a sauna. Not good when one needs a shower to get ready for a wedding! Breakfast - very average
Fabulous location, beautiful building and decor, and it smelt amazing! The beds were very comfortable and there was room for two bags to be unpacked in the dressing area of our room. We were attending a rugby final at Wembley and decided to stop here and nip into Wembley from StAlbans on the train and we were so glad we did rather than stay in London. All in all a lovely place to stay.
It’s my own little niggle - but I do like a little fridge in a room to keep guests own water/drinks in. So I’m always a little disappointed when there isn’t one
There is a lot positive to be said about this hotel. It's the old offices of Samuel Ryder, and has been mostly redecorated and turned into a hotel with plenty of character. The room was a good size, with a fair amount of storage room, and good beds. The bathroom was also large and the shower was spacious. The breakfast room was pleasant and there was a good choice of food, which was very tasty. The staff we encountered were all very pleasant and helpful. Given that the hotel is pretty much in the centre of St Albans and we were there on a Saturday night, it was very quiet indoors. It's about a fifteen minute walk from the station, so if you're coming in to Luton Airport it's easily accessible and the journey then in to London is not very long.
A couple of things need to be mentioned here. The most glaring problem was that there is a fan in the bathroom that cannot be turned off, according to reception for safety reasons. Given that the primary reason for most people staying in a hotel for a night is to have somewhere to sleep, a noisy fan that prevents sleep would seem to be a bad idea. This was one of a number of "almost but not quite" features of the hotel. The breakfast room is mostly nicely decorated, in a kind of nineteenth century style, but then there were mid-century style chairs, good in themselves, but really not in keeping with the rest of the room. The bedroom had rails for hanging clothes and for overnight it was fine, but very few hangers for a longer stay. The lighting by the bed semi-worked in a rather illogical way. As it was quite expensive, I would not stay there again if I could avoid it, but to be fair it wasn't terrible and the good bits certainly deserve appreciation.
Breakfast was adequate although the fruit was not replenished and only a few melon slices were available. The location is excellent with many restaurants and bars within easy walking distance.
I was not told that my room would be below ground level with the view from the window a brick wall. I would expect better for the price paid.
It was a central location
Not a great atmosphere, staff not very friendly. Long walk to car park and staff didn’t suggest leaving our bags. Would have been much easier if we had known the distance
The location was good and the car park just a short walk away. We did have drinks and bar food - only pizzas which were ok. The room had no water supplied which was very disappointing! This is now a given at most hotels, we did get some bottles at the reception but it would have been better in the rooms. The staff were very polite and friendly.
No water supplied in the rooms! Not much room to hang clothes up.
A beautiful and stylish hotel . Bed was large and very comfy. Loved the decor and colours used. Orginal building features left in tact added to the ambiance of hotel .
Good room, comfortable bed.
We were asked to book breakfast as the dining area is small. We booked for 9am, but there was no room - their ‘booking list’ ( a sheet of paper) did not appear to have many other bookings at the time so presumably walk-ins went ahead of bookings - and as we were needing to leave for an appointment at 10am, had expected a table to be available. Once seated, three of our four breakfasts came within about 20 minutes, but the fourth had not appeared by 9.40am and we needed to leave. We were disappointed.
Location and room comfort
Not a problem for my son and myself, but the dining area did nit have enough capacity for the number of hotel guests, as people couldn't find any seating so had to stand waiting.
location good as everything was walkable. The room and bathroom were clean. The staff were very friendly.
The hospitality tray was basic. UHT milk and a few sachets of instant coffee was disappointing.
The location and how quiet it was.
Nothing
.
.
Breakfast was lovely , my own criticism would be that the hotel lacked atmosphere which was a shame as it is a beautiful hotel . I think maybe some background music would help this
Just the atmosphere, other than everything was brilliant !! Staff couldn't do enough for you with their kindness . Hotel was luxurious and very clean.
The cleannesses, the fragrance, the style and comfortable vibe.
Nothing!
The decor was excellent Lovely breakfast
Only thing I would suggest is a coffee machine in the room
Access to the room was easy, either by lift or a small flight of stairs. The bed was comfortable. Soft carpeting in the passageways felt luxurious. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel building was lovely, amongst many other historical buildings on the road, and right opposite the Cathedral.
We would have appreciated an extra toilet roll in the bathroom, as one and half was skimpy for two elderly people for two nights. I wasn’t keen on the warehouse-like furniture…the heavy brown, angular shapes and connecting pipes, although the pictures on the walls were bright and cheery.
Absolutely loved our stay, had the best night sleep! Already thinking of excuses to come back!
Nothing, was a great stay!
Comfort. Easy to find amenities
The direction for parking was not clear to find at night.Needs postcode
Clean, comfortable and modern rooms. Helpful reception staff
This hotel was in a great location and the staff were really helpful and friendly. It was good to have the drop-off area, especially as the car parking is split between 3 different sites.
Unfortunately the walls were thin and we could hear quite a lot of hotel guest noise and outside noise. Also, the bathroom fan was on constantly, which was annoying for hubby.
location.
breakfast- bacon dried out been left under warmer. eggs overdone coffee warm!!
Good location Clean Friendly staff Quiet
No water in rooms
Location and bed comfortable
Breakfast
Location perfect. We arrived early and parking was easy. Staff very friendly. Breakfast choices were best I have seen for a long time at a hotel.
Nothing. All good.
Staff and really accommodating for random requests due to having a 3 month old.AC good once you get it going
AC tough to work but fine when working. Parking a bit of a walk and stress to unload it quickly but fairly minor points
Location. Car parking even though a slight walk away from the hotel. Good shower. Very good breakfast
No information written about dining times or check out -had to ask
Very nice hotel in the middle of lovely St.Albans......great location & lovely building with a lot of character. Staff very welcoming & efficient.
Carpark was a bit of a trek - fine in good weather but not so great if not
Central position. Very clean. Polite and helpful staff. Comfortable beds in well thought out rooms. Very nice breakfast choice
Nothing
Central location for great access to the Cathedral
I loved the breakfast. Staff were helpful and friendly. Quality of food was excellent.
The TV needed to be updated, most channels I often use at home were not available. Shame.. The shower head needs a clean, spraying water around the walls of the shower room.
The staff were excellent. The room was lovely. Like our entire experience with the city of St Albans it was brilliant. Ver much enjoyed the breakfast ,
Well there was one comical incident with the plug in the wash basin. It didn't have a chain and I simply couldn't pull it out. I took an very long time time and two visits from a gent who turned out to be the receptionist who eventually removed it with a plunger.!!1
Friendly, efficient staff, good breakfast and great location.
Parking is not easy
The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Proximity tk the cathedral ,as we were going to a concert there, could not have been better. We would definitely stay again.
All good.Excellent break.
ALL, the room, location and staff were all great.
Nothing negative to report
Everything! I have stayed before and I enjoy the stay. The bedroom and bathroom are very nicely furnished, a good size and practical.
I had the breakfast once and it wasn't worth the cost, so decided not to bother again.
