Friendly staff.Very efficient
The staff were really on point. Unlike many other places, they actually really seemed to enjoy their jobs and interactions with the guests. These were genuine interactions - not the 'painted smile' you get in many chains and even some independent hotels. I never felt like I was bothering them if I needed to approach for a query or question.
Honestly couldn't find anything to fault!
We absolutely loved our stay! The spa facilities were incredibly relaxing, and the perfect place to unwind. The staff were wonderful and truly went above and beyond to make our stay special. Exceptional service, a beautiful atmosphere, and a genuinely memorable experience.
The only disappointment during our stay was that the ribeye steak from one of the menus was out of stock, which was a shame.
A great hotel with great restaurants and nice sized rooms. The bathroom and bedroom was good. The standard spa facilities were ok. With 2 x jacuzzis, 1x sauna and 1 x steam room.
The staff at reception and at the spa were not helpful and border line rude. Our room was not ready on arrival, we was waiting another 30minutes before we had to ask for our room. It was a similar experience for the spa.
Great stay!
Excellent afternoon tea in Sopwell house very delicious and the best elegant place . Beautiful in every way been there every week for afternoon tea with different friends in June and July , recommended to everyone to visit and have afternoon tea.
Beautiful peaceful room in The Mews with air conditioning. The breakfast was very good, although it would have been nice to have some hot dishes to order a la carte. Hash browns, pastries and bread were all very good. The Spa was great, with a big pool and good facilities in The Club, particularly the sauna which was excellent. Very high quality Spa treatments. Great cocktails at the Octagon Bar. Delicious burger, fries and crab brioche bun at The Brasserie.
There was some mistake with our lunch order at the Brasserie when we arrived, which meant that our food took more than an hour to arrive. While I accept that these kind of glitches do happen, we had to ask the staff twice to check on our order before they realized that the original order did not go through. Better training needed? There was no cold plunge in the Spa, which would have been great after the sauna. Some of the hydrotherapy options in The Club pool were not working.
We stayed in a plush room that unfortunately overlooked the car park. It was pleasant and quite a high quality room. The shower was large and had high quality hair and shower products with a not so fluffy bath robe and slippers. The room did not have a fridge, which considering the price was more than a little disappointing for a hotel of this advertised distinction and so we had to make do with uht milk to make a hot drink. We couldn't gain access to the grounds as there was a wedding. The breakfast was good, but the fact that a supplementary menu was slid under my nose that had porridge at an extra at £5 and eggs royale at another £7 rather irked me. Upselling for the sake of it, in an already dare I say, overpriced hotel felt needlessly exploitative. There is clearly a lucrative market for this kind of hotel in the south and it certainly wasn't obvious there is any kind of cost of living crisis here. The parking was free.
Lovely place excellent facilities
Room was ready to check in early (12) so off to good start! Impeccable service from staff, superb dinner and breakfast in Brasserie - beyond our expectations. The Cottonmill Club was genuinely excellent … top facilities and time slows down here. Cocktail at Octagon was also spot on and expertly prepared. Pricey but would definitely return - thanks
Unfortunately our one night stay got off to a bad start. We had lunch in the brasserie and then tried to check in to our room at 3pm, but were told it wasn't ready. There was no apology for this, or idea how long it would take. At this point it would be normal for a luxury hotel to offer some free drinks while we waited in the bar for the inconvenience, but I had to ask for this from the front desk staff. The drinks at the Octagon bar were very good, but the service slow, despite being almost empty. After 30 mins we were allowed into the room, which we found a decent size and initially looked clean. The air con in the room was weak, even turned up to max, and wasn't enough to handle the high temperatures which made for an uncomfortable night's sleep. We found black mould on the shower floor, walls and shower head, again not what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. We also couldn't lock the door - the lock didn't line up with the frame. There was some corridor noise late in the evening, but appreciate that's always a risk when staying in a hotel that's also a busy wedding venue. We spoke to the manager in the morning who checked the room, agreed that the mould was unacceptable and the lock not working and pledged to take the room out of service until both were fixed. She was adamant that the air con was fine, but I see several other reviews here mention how weak and sub-standard it is, so there is clearly a wider problem. She offered to take 10% of our bill which was appreciated. Overall, the level of service and quality of the room don't seem to justify the price and so we would have to say it's poor value for money. It seems most of the responses from Sopwell House management on here are AI-generated and lazily copied and pasted, so please don’t reply with “your comments have been passed on to the relevant team” when you’re so clearly not even reading them.
We came to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Our lunch in the Brasserie was enjoyable and our waiter attentive and professional. We did have rather a long wait for puddings. We found the service in the Octagon bar unacceptably slow on the two occasions we used it on Saturday. Breakfast on Sunday was chaotic and of a poor standard. We had to ask for our hot drinks order to be taken, and were greeted by a sullen girl whose response was, “What do you want?” Nobody removed used crockery so bowls and plates piled up on a fairly small table. Monday was better. Dinner on Sunday in the Brasserie was delicious, but the wrong reservation time was put down by the staff and I had to contact them to correct it. Our accessible Chic room was smaller than I had expected and the shower room was extremely small. The bed was comfortable. The kettle cannot fit under the taps, so we had to use bottled water. We were surprised to see plastic pots of UHT milk. We rang for fresh milk both mornings. Sunday we had to phone twice. I use a wheelchair and we found the steep, undulating, ramped corridor leading to the lift very challenging. The incline is quite scary for both the person pushing the wheelchair and for its occupant. Overall, not the experience I had hoped for.
We have just had the most wonderful experience having afternoon tea at Sopwell House. It was outstanding. From the moment we arrived we were treated as if we were special - in a good way. Nadia was the most fantastic hostess and all the staff were lovely. We had different types of tea and the most amazing vegetarian sandwiches. The falafel wrap was so different. We took home the cakes as we were stuffed. The setting was beautiful and the decor added to the experience. Thank you team for making it such a memorable afternoon.
The bed was comfortable and the room was a reasonable size, however the soundproofing was really bad. Every time people walked past it was like they were crashing into our room, waking us up repeatedly overnight. Service in the brasserie and Octagon Bar was painfully slow on multiple occasions, and whilst there were some gluten free options on the menu the fact I had to scan a QR code to view allergen information meant I felt I was being singled out compared to the rest of the group - not very inclusive. For a place that aspires to a high quality ambiance this was a let-down, adding the allergen information to the printed menu wouldn’t negatively effect the experience for others but help those with dietary needs feel much more considered. Food quality at lunch in the brasserie and dinner in the conservatory bar was very good, although breakfast was not their strength the following morning. The cooked breakfast buffet was mediocre at best; with fried eggs that had dried up on the hot plate and scrambled eggs that tasted like salty lumpy milk - I’m not convinced any egg had touched that dish. The gluten free cereal selection was good and a limited selection of bread / muffins but not much else on offer: no sausages and gluten traces in the potato rosti, and no sign of gluten free toast. Again, not living up the level of quality the hotel claims to offer. Even pubs or B&Bs can do a better gluten free breakfast at a quarter of the price. Despite an abundance of waiting staff they weren’t very attentive. Having to wait over 10 minutes for a hot drink order to be taken and then a similar amount of time for it to be brought to the table made me long for the self service buffet of a premier inn where at least I could get another cup of tea before breakfast service ended. We had intentionally gone down to breakfast relatively early to avoid the peak time as advised on check in, so who knows what it would have been like later that morning. Overall the decor was over the top with a lot of artificial plants and clearly a lot spent on different sides for interior design and furnishings, which isn’t a compliment and detracted from the historic house.
The Afternoon Tea waa splendid. Thank you to Lun.
We've come back from an overnight stay so wanted to review while fresh. Overall a nice stay, but too inconsistent. The Cottonmill Spa is genuinely incredible: one of the best spas we've ever visited. It was amazing in great weather but I imagine would have been great in the cold too. High quality, deeply relaxing. We had dinner in Omboo and had the set menu, which is a great experience: incredible food kept on coming, with delightful service, and an after dinner drink in the Octagon bar which is really classy (and amazing cocktails!). So much so good. Now the downsides. The room (we had a Chic Double) was quite small but just about OK - it looks from the floorplan that the old building means some rooms are very different sizes and shapes so might be worth calling in advance and checking you've got a kingsize (we did). The decor was generally good, nice furniture, comfy bed good shower and Elemis everywhere. However the aircon seemed to do almost nothing so the room was hot (while being quite loud). Lots of noise from the corridor and other floors. Overall just about good enough, but not worth what we paid for the room itself. Then breakfast: what a disappointment. We were crammed in so close we could have easily joined in the conversation with the couple on the next table. The buffet breakfast was very disappointing, only just better than a Premier Inn honestly. Lunch in brasserie and dinner menu were ok but again nothing better (not enough vegetarian choices in particular).
A lovely, indulgent afternoon tea experience. An excellent choice of teas served with a fine selection of sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats made by artisan. The service is top rate and a special mention to Vincent who was incredibly attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. excellent customer service from Vincent and his colleagues and all with a smile. Highly recommend and will be back
Lovely hotel inside, lovely staff, great food and awesome massage if very pricey 🙈
Tad costly but was lovely for a special occassion
We checked in at around 6pm. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the food was excellent. The following morning, after checking out, we went to use the spa but were told we couldn't because we had already checked out. That was extremely disappointing and really spoiled what had otherwise been a pleasant stay. We regularly visit Gleneagles, where guests are welcome to continue using the facilities on the day of checkout. The contrast in customer service and hospitality was obvious. I've given this stay 2 stars solely because of this policy. With a 6pm check-in and an 11am check-out, we effectively had very limited time to enjoy the hotel. We paid around £400 for the room and over £200 for dinner, so the hotel received more than £600 from us for less than 17 hours on the property. Refusing to let paying guests use the spa for a short period after checkout felt unnecessarily inflexible and poor value. Sadly, because of this experience, we won't be returning.
We recently stayed at Sopwell House to celebrate my sister's birthday, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, everything was exceptional, and we couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable or relaxing stay. The staff truly made the experience. Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, and attentive, while remaining professional at all times. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble, and their genuine friendliness made us feel valued throughout our stay. Our room had recently been refurbished and was beautifully designed, spacious, and incredibly comfortable. It was immaculate on arrival, and the attention to cleanliness throughout the hotel was impressive. The spa facilities were spotless, with staff regularly cleaning and maintaining the different areas, which really enhanced the overall experience. Before arriving, I was slightly concerned as I knew there was a wedding taking place during our stay. However, those concerns quickly disappeared. We weren't disturbed by any noise whatsoever, and the hotel managed the event seamlessly without compromising the experience for other guests. The only very minor downside was that a small section of the grounds was unavailable because of the wedding, but this was understandable and had very little impact on our visit. The food was another highlight. Every meal we had was beautifully presented, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and cooked to an exceptional standard. It was clear that great care had gone into every dish, and dining at the hotel was a real treat. The spa itself was fantastic and provided the perfect setting to unwind. Despite the hotel being busy, it never felt overcrowded, and there was always a calm, luxurious atmosphere throughout the property. Sopwell House is undoubtedly a luxury hotel, and while it is more expensive than many alternatives, we genuinely felt it was worth every penny. The outstanding service, beautiful surroundings, excellent facilities, immaculate cleanliness, and exceptional food all combined to create a memorable experience that fully justified the price. We left feeling completely relaxed and already talking about when we could return. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sopwell House to anyone looking for a luxurious getaway or somewhere special to celebrate an occasion. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for making my sister's birthday so memorable.
We celebrated a family birthday and gathering. The meal was amazing, service excellent and drinks outstanding. This is the best Asian food in Hertfordshire and is London standard on our door step. Will definitely be going back soon. Our waiter Vincent was excellent.
In an increasingly brash, impersonal world, stepping into Sopwell House is an absolute salve for the soul. It blends old world charm with a fanatical, almost psychic attention to detail. The spa easily rivals QC Terme, and the food at Omboo is just stunning. Literally everything is so gorgeous, I almost caught myself hugging the carpet. Breakfast was bonkers. The staff are incredible. Sopwell isn't just a spa hotel, it's a f#&*ing experience, I feel like ive been hiding out at a luxury retreat for a month. Thank you.
My friend and I attended afternoon tea at Sopwell House to celebrate her Birthday. The food was delicious and we loved taking home our goodie boxes with what was left. Angel our server was lovely, so friendly, attentive and wonderful. Thank you. I would recommend to anyone.
Generally had a good time over 4days with the venue, event, and staff on the hottest days of the year. However, let down by access to the outside events which were a fair distance away from SH over grass, pebbles and stones which was not good if you're in a wheelchair 👩🏽🦽 Would only go again if they invest in a buggy for the disabled or concrete over the pebbled area and make it a smooth and easy access around the estate!
We just had an amazing stay at Sopwell House. Beautiful hotel and grounds, food at Omboo Restaurant was fantastic.
This is like a 6 star, unbelievable with pure indulgence, luxury and customer care. Spotless everywhere, so many staff that could not be more helpful, Spa area , Treatment rooms, Relaxation area etc is so calming and relaxing . I cannot find the words to describe how the whole experience in being in such luxury felt. Hotel rooms decorated in plush fabrics and exceptional decor. Looks like it all has been refurbished. Breakfast the best in any hotel I have been to and some were 5 stars. My Spa AromatherapyTreatment was the best ever. I honestly cannot praise this hotel Spa enough, I cannot wait to go back.
A truly wonder to experience for Afternoon Tea celebrating my husband’s 30th birthday. We had strict vegetarian dietary requirements and the restaurant and chef managed this perfectly. Denna, our waitress, was fantastic and attentive to our every need. A perfect afternoon. Thank you!
This is a beautiful old house refurbished as a hotel. The spa is great, the food is top class and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Highly recommended but pricey!
Nothing comes to mind.
The whole place is great, hotel is a bit different, nice decor, room spotless, a couple of fab restaurants, lovely grounds, the club spa amazing, however needs a cold plunge and an outdoor swimming pool. Definitely needed to upgrade to the the club spa.. would have been disappointed if we hadn’t… it should really all be included..: quite strange why not.. plush room is perfectly big enough, beds comfy but pillows not to my liking. Would definitely go back.
Friendly helpful staff. Access to room early. Great spa and delicious breakfast.
Couldnt put a plug in the sink.
Absolutely fantastic place . My daughters surprised us with an afternoon tea for our 50th wedding anniversary.. The setting is stunning. The tea was amazing . Our server Xavier was most attentive.
The staff were friendly and welcoming. The spa is lovely in the sunshine and the decor/interior design is beautiful. My mother in law had hurt her finger and the team were quick to bring her a plaster and some ice.
Some of the front of house staff seem inexperienced. Our room wasn’t ready at check in time at 3pm - we were offered to use the spa but the team had already taken our bags so I didn’t really see how that was possible. One of our bags was forgotten at check in. No one explained to use how things worked in the room either. For the cost of the mews house stay, I have to say I was disappointed. There was no turn down, the bathroom had a terrible drains smell, the TV in the bedroom had a dirty remote control and the volume didn’t work, we only had 1 towel each, the bedroom lights didn’t work and no one helps pull suitcases up the stairs upon arrival or departure. We were given a tour of the spa upon arrival and it was never mentioned that the gym only opened at 7:30 despite us asking about opening times (we were made to believe it was only the spa and pool which opened at 8). We weren’t allowed to use the gym until 7:30 despite being ready to use it at 6:30 and having staff around. Similarly we were left waiting outside the breakfast venue until exactly 7am even though the place was ready. It constantly felt like customer experience was not the priority and everything was just what was offered, no more. The breakfast was not great forr a 5 star hotel. I travel a lot and the lack of à la carte options is unusual. We weren’t offered more hot drinks, the eggs were oily, and everything seemed like an effort - for example one of the waiting staff refused to clear our spare glasses away after bringing us a cup of tea (despite having an empty tray) saying that was ‘someone else’s job’. The spa is also not up to scratch with other 5 star hotels. There’s plenty of ateam rooms and saunas but no ice bath which would be nice. They also seemed to regularly run out of seating options. Again, I asked if we could use the spa facilities a bit beyond 11am and the reception staff just said ‘well that’s at the discretion of the spa staff’.
My daughter and I have been going to Sopwell House for an overnight stay for a few years now. It's a wonderful break, totally relaxing. The outdoor jacuzzies are a delight, set in lovely surroundings. The food gorgeous. Staff are very welcoming and helpful and on this occasion we'd like to say a special thank you to Jayshree who went out of her way to be professionally caring. It made us feel valued. Thank you Jayshree and all the staff who made our stay so lovely. We look forward to seeing you next year.
Was spotlessly clean and the food was 10 outa 10
The property was brilliant and the facilities! Was just a shame after we left the property The management let it down! Once we’d arrived home I received an email to say they had mistakenly refunded me for my room deposit and the hotel room cost! Asking me to re pay the £404.10 for the room that they had refunded to me by mistake! Even though the money won’t be credited to my account for 3-5 days! Of corse I have agreed to send the money for the room once the refunded money is cleared in my account! As a gesture of good will after a nice stay I offered to pay the money back today before even receiving it myself, and if they would be willing to offer us something for our next stay, considering the inconvenience it has caused especially as it was there mistake, resulting in me being out of pocket by £404.10 for 3-5 days! Only to be insulted with the offer of 2 free drinks at the bar! Really hate to complain like this but feel insulted
I have now visited Sopwell House several times for business breakfast or lunch or coffee meetings over recent months and I have gone away very satisfied with the experience. The hotel has always been clean and tidy and the staff have been friendly and welcoming. The food and beverage and service have been as you would expect from a quality hotel and there is plenty of parking.
Style and character
Couldn’t thought it
A brilliant first visit to Omboo. The food was exceptional and the team handled our food allergies with real care, meaning we could relax and enjoy the whole experience. A special mention for Vincent, whose warm and attentive service made the evening… he even gave me a chopstick lesson. We’ll absolutely be back.
Very light and modern , the facilities are amazing
Nothing
Wow, what an amazing hotel! My wife and I have been to many hotels and this is definitely the best one we have been too, it really should be 5 stars! We went for our 10 year anniversary and stayed in the mews suite which was amazing! The spa was unreal, dinner tasted so good and the staff were really friendly! Definitely will be coming back and recommending this place!
So many heartfelt, beautiful memories in this place. Sopwell is where me and my wife have spent a lot of time together. However, don't expect any warm welcomes back or any effort for accomodation from Nicole, or any of the managers. We've decided to return and schedule our 1st anniversary at Sopwell. As a professional, I respect the fact that our availability needed some honest effort to meet, but comments such as "if you don't book, there are plenty of returning members that come back to us anyway" are not welcome. Not a single crap was given by Nicole to even say a basic comment such as "happy anniversary", "happy to see you guys back again", "thank you for choosing us and staying so many times, let me see what I CAN do for you" instead of the 101 answers she threw back, on how she CAN'T accomodate anything, nowhere, at all. Whether you've spent a few quid on a massage or spent over 20 grand with the establishment like I have - expect your family to be treated as another number in their booking software - never like an old valued customer. We'll be taking our business to places who value customers and people first. Clearly, that value is dying with this establishment. 2 stars for the memories. 1 star for the effort.
Lovely spa area. Beautifully manicured gardens. Received a relaxing massage (which made me fall asleep). Top customer service in the restaurant Omboo from our host Vincent. He went out of his way to explain everything on the menu and made some great suggestions. We especially enjoyed the experience of Omboo - the food was amazing. At breakfast, if you could think of anything you could want at breakfast, they had it. Everything cooked spot on.
Really well kept and clean. Great facilities
We received a voucher for Christmas gift and decided to use it for our anniversary weekend. When we checked in we was told that our room had been upgraded to chic. Which was nice. However the only down fall was as we had hot weather there was no fridge in the room to keep water cold. Even though we had air con it was a very hot room. When we checked in they never told us that we also need to check in at the Cottonmill spa so by the time we had lunch and went to the spa all the deck chairs had been taken. It’s just a pity they didn’t have more of them. Especially with the lovely weather we won’t to be able to enjoy the it. When I booked over the phone and took up the 60 minute massage for me and my husband I wasn’t asked if we wanted a couples massage and found out on the day that we couldn’t do it together as it was not booked. When we went to lunch I ordered still water and we got sparking and when I told Susanna about this she rolled her eyes as if I’d made the mistake but I know that I didn’t.
We had an amazing time at a lovely afternoon tea with myself, my daughter, and my mum. The staff were all lovely and friendly, and the restaurant’s atmosphere was beautiful. We absolutely loved the setting and the vibe. We hadn’t been since the 2023 refurb, so it felt fresh and new to us. But the absolute highlight of our visit was the incredible Clara. She was so friendly, warm, and personable, she truly made our afternoon. She chatted with my mum so kindly and was so complimentary. She really made it for us!
Had nice food and Vincent served us and was very helpful
The decor is gorgeous across the hotel and in the bedrooms. The food in the Ombre resaurant was really great and the bar made great cocktails. The hotel breakfast the next day was decent, not amazing.
My criticisms are that the hotel was quite poor at responding to the request for an early check-in - this wasn't possible but they also didn't let us know. The major disappointment was that most of the spa facilities are not available for general hotel guests. The only facilties are the gym (which is small but well equipped), pool, sauna and steamroom. The other facilties (outdoor spa, outdoor pool, relaxation room, salt room, aromatherapy room and sensory shower, were only available to guests paying for a premium package. This wasn't obvious to me when I booked, more hidden in small print, and so I was disappointed not to be able to use the facilities as I had specifically booked because there was such a great range!
Great accomodation, luxurious facilities and lovely spa...
nothing - all good
The room was beautiful, the spa environment itself was relaxing and well presented, and the overall setting was exactly what I was hoping for
At dinner, when I informed the waiter about a food allergy (which has already been noted before my arrival), he audibly sighed at me. As someone with dietary requirements, this was both embarrassing and disappointing. Food allergies should be handled professionally and without making guests feel like an inconvenience. In addition, I noticed a distinct difference in the way I was spoken to at the spa reception before and after upgrading my spa experience. Prior to upgrading, the interaction felt noticeably colder and less welcoming. Once I chose to upgrade, the tone and manner towards me became significantly friendlier. Whether intentional or not, this gave the impression that guests are treated differently depending on the level of package they purchase, which I found uncomfortable and disappointing Poor attitude of the staff.
Sopwell house was amazing. The staff, service, food spa were great. Vincent in Omboo was a great host.
Breakfast and coffee was good, japanese restaurant was good although expensive
It was not made clear at all upon booking that the spa isnt included. All of the paid adverts online show the full spa, when you go you only have access to a much smaller / basic spa which was very loud, not very relaxing. Cost to go to the rest of the spa was £130 per person for 1 day, so £260 when we already spent £400+ on the hotel. There is nothing else in the area, the whole point of going out of the way is for the spa hotel, not having access to the main spa by default makes it a pointless stay. Whilst the bars are nice, the prices are very high, cocktails are £18-20 including service charge, more than most places in London. For the price, you would expect some toiletteries, mini toothpase, moisturiser, anything, but there is nothing provided at all.
Omboo is always an amazing experience. The food is exceptional, the atmosphere lively and the service is excellent, especially our server Vincent.
I went to afternoon tea with my mum, it has always been a dream of her. It was wonderful! Lovely tearoom, tasty food and great tea selection. Our waitress Clara was amazing, super attentive and friendly. She was also so kind and took photos so my mum and me could have some memories.

A wonderful weekend! We had the spa package with 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast and use of the club spa. So worth paying the extra for the club so access. Staff were all wonderful and couldn’t do enough to help you without being overly formal. The quality of the hotel is exceptional, plenty of restaurant options and lovely bar with fantastic cocktails. Will we back be, absolutely yes. This is now my favourite spa hotels.
Had an amazing spa and stay at Sopwell. We have been here a few times since 2015 and everytime is spot on. It has had a refurb since we were last here in 2024 and seems to get better and better. We had use of the cottonmill spa and 2x 60 minute treatments which both were perfect 👌 Food as always lovely! Have been to a few spas but always end up comparing them to Sopwell. Have to say a big thank you to Cilla on reception for best customer service. Definitely will be returning ☺️
Beautiful grounds and the hotel is decorated beautifully, staff very friendly and all food and drink tasted delicious!
The breakfast buffet area too busy, hot and smelly didn’t enjoy being in the room. There was a wedding at the hotel the night before and not sure if the hotel just couldn’t handle being that busy. Dinner service slow, drinks arrived after our food, although waiter was apologetic as feel they were busy and stretched. Could hear the wedding music within our room when trying to sleep. Then kept getting woken up by slamming of other bedroom doors late into the night and loud chatter in the hallways from wedding guests I’m guessing.
Perfect getaway. Brilliant sleep in the huge comfy beds. Wonderful relaxation in the Cottonmill spa. Amazing staff who made us feel very well looked after. Beautiful grounds. Just the restorative break we needed.
I wish the pool was open just a bit later. 10:30 would be great for those who eat earlier in the evening and want a post dinner swim.
Stunning hotel decor, rooms, reception, restaurant and bar areas are beautifully presented. The Cottonmill spa was fantastic and well worth the upgrade.
The photos online make you assume that the cottonmill spa is included within your booking and can be misleading. The property itself is faultless.
HUGE thanks to Natalie on Reception. 🙏🏼 She answered my call Friday at 6pm and helped me find the perfect room ( 106 ) for a 2 night stay. She was very patient, kind and empathetic. If it weren’t for her, I may have booked The Grove - and because of her, i will return. Definitely an asset to the hotel. 😇🫶🏼 Food was great, a couple of times I had to go and look for staff to order a drink but it was busy and sunny, so thats perhaps why. Grounds are spotless, everyone is welcoming. Big shout out to Clara and Nadia in Omboo, worked very hard to make sure everyone enjoyed their dinner experience. Will definitely return - thanks to Natalie foremost, then to Clara and Nadia…. Alexa 💜 ( By the way the best rooms are the ‘chic rooms’ - recommended. 👍🏻)
Forth year in a row that we've done the Chic Retreat package. Excellent as always. The room was gorgeous, the food lovely, & the staff attentive. The spa is exceptional. Special mention to Jayshree, manager in the spa, who provided excellent customer service, & made us feel like valued guests! We look forward to returning!
Breakfast was great
Alkl good thank you
Afternoon tea should be about the experience and sadly the experience was not that nice ! Our waiter did not get a lot right , he didn’t bring our champagne as we chose that option . He didn’t bring the sandwiches we asked for and he also didn’t offer another tea. The sandwiches and scones were very nice thanks to the kitchen . However it was not value for money. I did mention it to the girls when I paid but they said sorry but that was all. Poor atmosphere and it was awkward.
Mews rooms are gorgeous, spa nice, very friendly staff. Great one night stay
No grounds to explore unlike some other country hotels
Second stay at the mews. Incredible room. Very comfortable bed. Highly reccomend going to the Cottonmill Spa. Excellent breakfast choices.
Incredible stay at Sopwell House. We stayed the night and had access to the Cottonmill Spa, I don't think I could ever visit another spa now!! Absolutely wonderful, relaxing, luxurious stay. Staff were helpful and accommodating.
Excellent high tea at Sopwell House. Great food and very polite service, especially from Wilson. A lovely experience overall
Clara was beyond amazing!! She made our meal at Omboo incredible with her top-notch service. Order and food was taken promptly, she was extremely personable to talk to and was an absolute joy to have her as our waitress. Highly recommend and is a credit to Sopwell House!
I had a very disappointing experience at Sopwell House, especially considering the premium price you are expected to pay. From the outset, basic requests were not handled properly. We had specifically requested halal food, which was not adequately catered for, leaving us feeling overlooked and uncomfortable during what should have been a relaxing stay. The room setup was also unacceptable — instead of a proper arrangement, two single beds were pushed together, which is not what you expect from a hotel of this standard. The spa experience was equally poor. The massage was cut short and did not meet expectations in terms of quality. In addition, cleanliness standards were below par, with the toilets not being properly maintained. What was most disappointing, however, was how management handled the situation. Despite raising these issues, the response was dismissive and lacked accountability. A minimal goodwill gesture was offered, which did not reflect the extent of the issues experienced. Overall, this felt far from a luxury experience. You are paying premium prices but receiving a level of service that does not justify it. I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience.
The estate is beautiful and the rooms are clean and in good condition.
The cotton mill spa was very basic, not as clean and not much space for guests. For a spa hotel I was a bit disappointed that upgrading to the club is essential for a good and relaxing experience. There also wasn’t any availability for booking treatments and I wish I had been made aware that pre booking is the only way to get a treatment. The biggest annoyance however was the fact that there was a big event (wedding?) with very loud music that I could experience in my room and going to bed at 10pm as I had planned, was impossible. The music only stopped at 12:30am. The rooms were also not soundproof at all, I was able to hear my neighbors constantly. When I book a spa hotel stay I expect to be relaxed, not stressed. And would have liked to be made aware of this as I would have definitely cancelled my booking. I honestly wish I had stayed home and taken a bath instead. The food was also not particularly good and made my stomach quite upset.
The most relaxing and enjoyable experience I have ever had in England. Everything from the immediately calming atmosphere, to the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, the gorgeous clean sound-proof rooms, to the delicious food - my friend and I couldn't fault the entire experience. We opted for the Club experience and couldn't recommend it more. We spent what must have been hours in the hydrotherapy pool and surrounding hot tubs and could have stayed forever. We booked in an upper body massage each, and the only slight falter of the stay was that a mix-up had occurred and our bookings did not show up on the system. However, this was immediately rectified with solutions and apologies and it did not impact our experience whatsoever. The massage itself, my first ever, was phenomenal. Expertly carried out by Carolina who made sure I was comfortable and at ease the whole time, and was very kind to talk to. Tension between my shoulder blades I had for ages has since disappeared, overall a very positive experience. We dined at Omboo restaurant, after the staff kindly accepted our request to swap our Brasserie dinner vouchers to this establishment. The vegetarian set menu was among some of the nicest food we've ever had dining out, every single small plate served to us was delicious and we will absolutely be returning. The manager, Francis, was very kind and conversational too, making for a great evening overall. We slept very well and enjoyed access to the spa in the early hours before most were awake, and this was where the peace and quiet of the secluded location was really felt best. Breakfast was delicious too, and we were taken aback by the sheer variety of food on offer. We chose to splash out on this spa break instead of a holiday this year, and I can confidently say you get what you pay for. We've missed it every day since leaving. A faultless experience, and we would love to return in future. Thank you to all who made it a great stay!
Our daughter had booked herself a spa treatment package and she decided to book afternoon tea for me and my husband for my birthday present. It really is in lovely surroundings. The entrance is light, airy and comfortable. The room for afternoon tea has a high ceiling and is beautifully decorated in a tropical floral pattern and also light and airy. The tea offering was absolutely delicious. We had a glass of champagne with ours and it was a recognised brand poured in front of us. The tea was actual tea leaves and piping hot. I needed almond milk which was on offer. The sandwiches were fresh and really tasty and came in a good selection of flavours. The scones and hot cross bun (for Easter) were freshly baked and served with jam and cream. The little cakes were freshly made and not cloying. The chocolate slice not too sweet and not bitter. There was as much tea as we wanted. The waiting staff were attentive and checked if everything was acceptable. There were two young children having tea. One table had good manners and well-behaved the other not so much. There was a side room so it might be an idea to put young children in there rather than disturbing fellow guests who prefer to have peace and quiet to accompany their tea. But all in all, excellent quality and well worth the money.
My boyfriend and I visited sopwell for the first time. We were greeted at reception by the lovely Holly, she was amazing! So welcoming, gave us a full tour and told us everything we need to know! Clara also served us in the lovely Omboo restaurant, the food and service was amazing. I couldn’t recommend sopwell enough, the staff are amazing!!!!
Very good location. Spa is decent.
Quite pricey.
I would like to highlight the excellent customer service at Sopwell House. Yes, as a venue it is a comfortable and visually pleasing location, but what really makes the difference is attention to detail and customer service. In the Orangery is a person who takes this to heart; Venkata Rama Krishna! Listening to customers, and responding in a thoughtful and honest way makes that difference -where you want to go back! (Now, for the chefs in the brasserie to please put the chocolate tarte back on the menu) The spa reception staff- thank you today for your help, patience and charm! These things are really appreciated.
We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel last night for my joint hen do with a groups of my girls. We had afternoon tea which was very yummy and had lots of flavour. We used the spa facilities which is beautifully laid out and very clean. We stayed at the hotel too where we had a stunning room with the most comfiest bed to sleep on. The bathroom was modern and stylish too. We had breakfast this morning in the brassier which had lots of variety. This hotel is one of the prettiest I have visited in a long time where the staff are very helpful and welcoming. We had a particularly good lady who helped us (Val Hitchman) she was very professional, beautifully dressed and was on hand to make our day extra special. Would highly recommend this overnight stay and spa to all of my friends and can’t wait to go back in the near future.
Visited with family for afternoon tea, experience and food were amazing, sandwiches were great and pastries even better, great tea selection also. Staff were all friendly and attentive - would recommend!
Excellent facilities free breakfast , free wifi, spa amazing
