Very spacious accommodation in a superb location for the sights of St Albans. The instructions for self service access and parking are an example of clarity.

Our third stay at Torrington Hall. The room was lovely and well prepared. The provision of a fridge in the room became very welcome because we had to buy milk for our morning coffee after the first morning.

The room wasn't serviced during our stay. I telephoned the 'help' line to ask about this. The answerphone message said that the house keeper was available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The email message that I sent was unanswered. We were there for a long weekend so this wasn't helpful

Perfect location for Cathedral where I was singing the weekend services with a visiting choir. Have stayed here before, always very comfortable and convenient. Really appreciate the parking.

Struggled with the key pad (after a few drinks) and there was no one around to ask about storing bags on the Sunday when we left.

I particularly appreciated the flexible parking and easy access. The location was great - very central. The room and bathroom were very spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable.

Man sitzt und liegt mit dem Zimmer in der Auslage. Es gibt keine Verdunkelungsmöglichkeit und jeder sieht bis ins Bett. Zusätzlich scheint ein Halogenscheinwerfer direkt ins Zimmer und man kommt nicht zur Ruhe. Die Fenster sind nur teils zu öffnen und es ist schmutzig.

The location and the room were great. Parking at the property was straight forward.

A fan was provided for the room but it did not provide much coolness to a very hot room.

Sehr schöne Unterkunft, Zentrale Lage, großzügige Räume mit nostalgischem Flair. Schöner Blick auf die Kathedrale. Sehr sauber und komfortabel. Der gratis Parkplatz bei der Unterkunft war der Hit und sehr sicher.

Keine Klimaanlage, daher mussten wir das Fenster öffnen. Es war sehr laut, es liegt neben einer Durchzugsstraße mit LKW Verkehr, die ganze Nacht. Wir hatten wie andere auch das Problem, den Schlüssel für das Zimmer aus der etwas versteckten Box zu bekommen. Außerdem ist das System ist nicht einfach zu durchschauen.

We were not able to not stay in the room for long so hard to make a judgement.

We could not access the outside door of the hotel so had to sleep in our car.

Nice location to the place I was attending, nice room, bed etc. The response from the owner when I contacted her about the issue below was very prompt and apologietic, thank you.

The room was not ready when I arrived i.e. still not cleaned from the previous occupant(s) stay despite me arriving after the 2pm check in time. The owner (?) was contacted who very quickly attended and organised for cleaners to attend as well as directing me to a downstairs shower that I could use, not ideal, but was better than waiting for the room to be cleaned so that I could shower and get changed. Unfortunately this still meant that I was delayed in attending a friend's memorial service missing many of the speeches.

It worked really well for my plans and there was plenty of parking

Was noisy at night but it's a city centre location and we had the window open! No staff contact at all as you access rooms by code and key box in the hallway which worked fine.

The pre- check in information and communication was responsive and clear The property has plenty of parking which is a bonus in the location The bedroom was amazing - very spacious, clean and light and airy and the bed was particularly comfortable The room had plenty of extras in, proper hanging, a clean iron and ironing board etc Loved the bathroom with a very strong hot shower and standalone bath

Amazing location, cathedral is almost opposite, never been to St Alban's such a beautiful place. Beautiful room, it's absolutely massive, such a privilege to stay in such an old building. We went to Knebworth festival which was only 15 minutes drive!

Driving in your vehicle can scuff the ground on the road.

On a very hot day (and night) there was no air conditioning or a fan. The room remained hot and airless leading to a very poor nights sleep.

The bathroom was perfect and the bedroom was wonderful with the most beautiful furniture. It is situated very near to the town centre and was in walking distance to everywhere I needed to go.

Because there is no reception, I was told in an email where I could leave my luggage as I was arriving before check-in. Unfortunately there was a meeting happening in the room I was told you use but luckily the cleaning staff found me before I barged in.

Easy and central and very competitively priced

The check in process was very easy and we were given clear instructions. The room was very clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was modern with a fantastic shower. Location into central St Alban's was very convenient. I would happily stay again for longer.

Nothing, we couldn't find the communal kitchen area so some instructions on this would have been helpful but this was a very minor issue for us.

Could not understand the television!

The location was good and the general condition was good. Parking was also good but the visible warnings about exorbitant fines felt a little intimidating.

The lack of a working extractor in the bathroom and some personal soft touches would have been nice. It all felt a bit Airbnb but at booking.com prices. Oh, the residents were quite noisy chatting in the hallway late at night, ironic given the notices warning about being respectful of the residents.

The front door very to open my wife caught her ring finger in the door but fortunately it was minor injury.We arrived fairly late on Sunday night there was no water bottles in the room we couldn’t go out to get the water bottle.There was nobody on site to ask for one.Only 2 milk pods were kept!

Lovely spacious room and huge delightful bathroom. Features of an older elegant building, made it extra soecial Perfectly clean. Kitchenette useful for breakfast for us ,and more if needed. You are v close to St Albans centre and the facing a main road Rd in this room so there is road noise , but my usual earplugs worked. It was fairly cool on a fairly warm day, high ceilings and sun only comes in twfds end of day but a bit noisy to keep window open at night , possibly on really hot days . We would stay again and in this room because of the glorious bathroom , character and superb proximity to the main bit of the town

Only a minor thing. It was great that a fan was provided during very hot weather however, it was full of dust. I had to clean it out before using.The rest of the room was spotlessly clean.

- not enough shower gel provided - bathroom sink tap far too hot - small shower head was broken - TV a bit too small and far away - water left behind in kettle - check out was 10am but it didn’t seem like anyone came to immediately clean the room - lack of dressing table and mirror for makeup application

We liked the spacious room, mini fridge and willingness of the hosts to accommodate some very specific requirements and ad hoc changes of circumstance.

Noise from the main road and other residents. Cannot get a VAT receipt after numerous attempts via Torrington Hall. If anyone staying requires a receipt for expense claim then don’t bother staying. They never return any correspondence so I’m now £123 out of pocket.

This was our second one night stay at Torrington Hall; the price is comparable to other hotels in the city, but with the added bonus, for us, of a free car park, as we use St Albans as a break in a very long journey. This time our room (Verulam) was on the ground floor, at the back, and very quiet. The bed was very comfortable, the big radiator was a plus as it was a very cold day, the mini-fridge and tea/coffee facilities are good, with UHT milk and sachets of hot chocolate also provided alongside a selection of different teas. The shower/WC were off a hallway leading to an external door, which was colder, but the shower had plenty of hot water, and lovely fluffy towels. It's about five minutes uphill walk into the centre of the town, with all its pubs, bars, shops and restaurants and, of course, historical sights. There are also some good real ale pubs at the other end of Albert Street. Moka Indian restaurant just up the hill is very good.

Cleaning was superficial with obvious areas of quite unpleasant dirt (for example, edges of windows & shower screen) the room was long overdue decoration with chiped, cracked and flaking paint, there were no curtains but just wooden box-shutters that looked cold & prison-like and didn't shut the light out because of all the cracks between them (so the room could never be dark before sunset/after sunrtise, which means for most of the night in spring/summer), and total lack of soundproofing - old single-glazed sash windows on ground floor by main road, and could hear every footstep from the room above, every sound/word spoken in the communal hallway/stairs.

The location was excellent. It was easy to enter. I had the nicest room with a view of the cathedral but the only downside is you have to walk two flights of stairs; but to be expected in England!

The lobby and room is a bit worn and could use some more updating; like new flooring -but the bathroom was nicely updated and the room was large, nice picture window and very comfortable bed.

The room and bathroom were gorgeous but the bed was absolutely terrible. We got hardly any sleep due to a very old mattress which was so uncomfortable. Really disappointing.

The messages during the week were positive and helpful. However when I arrived everything went wrong. The gardens are unloved and I did not manage to get into the hotel.

I was unable to access the property and had to stay elsewhere. I received no email and the phone number on the door was unobtainable. A kind person who was booked there tried another number and an answerphone told her the office was manned Monday to Friday. I was booked in for the Saturday.
