good staff
food sucked and they charged me 200 extra usd
Everything, from the location, to the vibe, to the staff. Big thanks to Hanzin the trainee. What an amazing hospitality experience she provided.
The Traditional Ryokan style facility was great! Loved the rooms, the Onsen and the delicious menu provided.
Views were not great due to bad weather
Onsen
Choice of no fruits for breakfast
Amazing view over the lake Ashi, overseeing Mount Fuji. The staff was so lovely and polite and we had a great experience with kaiseki dinner. Truly unforgettable stay! We would love to come back one day!
The bathroom was the one area that I felt would benefit from refurbishment. While I appreciated that the property is intentionally maintained in a traditional Japanese style, the bathroom itself felt rather dated. Some renovation would make a significant difference while still preserving the traditional character of the hotel.
Location was great
It smells too much
Esperienza meravigliosa, staff davvero cortese e disponibile!
The view is amazing if the weather permits. Great views from the onsen too. Lovely traditional room.
Jeśli chcesz poczuć tradycję i zanurzyć się w japońskiej kulturze to zdecydowanie polecam ten hotel. Obiekt kameralny, pokój z niesamowitym widokiem na jezioro i górę Fuji. Kolacje i śniadania pięknie podane.
Nice size of rooms. Amazing food. Very helpful staff
There was no lake view from my room, despite it being shown as “from every room”
Tudo perfeito!!! Melhor experiência da viagem. Funcionários maravilhosos!! Comida excepcional! Localização privilegiada! Onsen perfeito! Recomendo muito

It’s beautiful. Classic Japanese charm and attention to detail. The staff was kind and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were both delicious and works of art. The Onsen was amazing. This place is a must if you are visiting the Hakone area.
Traditional Japanese Room with stunning view above Ashi See and great view to Mount Fuji. Waking up with a direct view to Mount Fuji was a true highlight of the trip. The same really applies to the Onsen, with stunning view to the lake and Mount Fuji
Love, love, loved it!! This was the much anticipated part of our holiday and we spent a lot of time researching Ryokan stays in the Hakone area. We settled on Ryuguden because we loved the idea of staying down on the lake and knowing we could easily transport our way around the region if needed. The staff were incredibly helpful, kind and overall just lovely. The traditional Ryokan and onsen experiences were beyond our expectation. Absolute 10/10. The early morning views of the lake and Mt Fuji were breathtaking.
Great traditional hotel with amazing breakfast and dinner. Hot springs are very nice. Loved wearing the traditional clothes and relaxing with my family. Easy walk to aquarium, the rope way, souvenirs, bakery and food. In room massage was amazing!!
Staff was exceptional. Facilities clean. Food was superb. The shuttle from Odawara station was convenient. There is also a free shuttle to Motohakone that was convenient as well. The public baths were great, especially the outdoor with view of Lake Ashinoko and Mt. Fuji.
Nada.
Enjoyable and comfortable stay for an entire family With striking location on the water
The Location of the hotel is about the only good thing to say about it - the views over the lake from the Onsen.
This hotel is extremely misleadingly marketed and seems aimed at convincing Western travelers that severe neglect equals an “authentic Japanese experience.” In reality, the property is incredibly outdated, run-down, and poorly maintained. The rooms were unacceptable. It was obvious that virtually nothing — including the bathrooms — has been renovated since the early 1980s. The furnishings, flooring, and overall condition felt worn out and neglected rather than traditional or charming. The experience was so disappointing that we decided to relocate during our stay to a Michelin Guide-rated 5-star hotel nearby — for essentially the same price. That alone says everything about the value here. Travelers seeking a genuine Japanese ryokan experience should absolutely look elsewhere. The only authentic thing about this hotel is how old it feels. Sleeping on a thin futon placed over damaged tatami flooring left us with sore backs and a thoroughly unpleasant experience.
Traditional dinner and brakfast, very polite and accomodating staff, the onsen experience, great sake recommendation, view out of the room.
The dinner was already prepared and therefore it was not possible to cancle single menue dishes as sashimi. A bit unfortunate if you don't want to waste any food. Still extreme polite and friendly staff even if you do not finish a dish.
Property is clean and well maintained although the facility is generally dated. Excellent location and wonderful staff that is so friendly and helpful. Food was about a 7.5 of 10.
Would have liked the option to access the outdoor portions of the facility
When I changed my room the view was lovely from the room
Although I traditional Japanese hotel the hotel was very dated and in need of refurbishing. Bathroom was very dated and tired and had an unpleasant smell in the toilet. The staff were lovely although many problems in translation. I was in the half board package and in the restaurant the food was pretty inedible. Extreme Japanese food and they weren’t able to help with some dietary requirements but on the second day I went to the sister hotel grand prince Hakone and the buffet food was amazingly good !

The staff, the views, the food was a really nice experience
The floor bed was not that comfortable, and found the shower and toilets outdated and not that clean.
I like how wherever we went in the ryokan, there was a view. The room was very spacious and the futons were comfortable.
I think the biggest thing I didn’t like about the stay was the meal. I felt like they were not able to accommodate my allergies well. In the kaiseki course that my family got while I had a steak set, they said that there was nuts in the sauce. Therefore I’m not able to enjoy the kaiseki set as well, but from my experience has a cook all they had to do was not serve me the said sauce. Same issue with the breakfast as well, I was substituted with a tofu set which was not filling. Overall the dining experience was very lacking besides the service compared to what I spent. For a thousand dollar night stay, I feel like the meals should have been more accommodating because I’m paying for the experience as a whole. The stay was nice, but I feel like I was paying more for the view rather than the entire experience which felt lacking since the amenities besides the onsen was very lacking compared to my experience in different ryokans considering the price I was charged. I feel like also the onsen even though it was really nice, the people that come don’t follow the rules and make the water dirty with dead skin. Resulting in diminished experience in such a nice onsen. However the women’s onsen was clean.
The hotel is abit remote but we had a car so that was fine for us, the view from the room was superb as was the Onsen etc..
a bar would have been nice
The view, the lake !
It was ok .
Great location by Lake Ashi. Awesome view of Mount Fuji. Great Onsen. It provides free shuttle bus to Motohakone.
Dinner and onsen
the room with the lake view was excellent
nothing
View and onsen
Dining hall and the futon sleeping.
The private onsen. The amazing views of Mt Fuji from the room through big glass windows. Japanese style rooms. The Japanese style breakfast and dinner each day.
Public transport is a little fiddly but it is there.
Rien ! Tout était parfait.
This was our first traditional Japanese inn (Ryokan). The staff were amazing and so friendly, I’d stay here again just for them! No need to have food on you, the dinner and breakfast are Japanese traditional and will have you to bursting LOL. We had a private onsen and it was amazing. Biggest room we’ve had in Japan so far 🤣. We also had views of Mt Fuji. It’s a bit in the pricier side, but for what you get, absolutely worth it and I would pay it again ! Loved it here.
Personale gentile e accogliente e pulito
Struttura un po vecchia
Location over looking lake and with views of Mt Fuji was excellent and the room - westernised bedding in a classic Japanese room comfortable .
Varying quality of in-house restaurant. First night was excellent but second night was poor . From comments of staff seems they are focused on single night stays and have lower standards for multiple nights!
The view was amazing, the staff very kind and helpful, good dinner and the room was beautiful
Absolutely stunning views from the room and the food was once-in-a-lifetime. Breakfast and dinner both amazing and very special.
Wine very expensive but other than that all perfect.
The views to the lake and the Fuji, the balance and simplicity of the rooms, the food, the onsen... all was perfect. Definitely recommended for a relaxing stay near Hakone.
I really appreciated: outside onsen, keisei dinner, traditional Japanese breakfast, staff very polite and professional, especially Mr. Cheng.
Nothing.
The location is gorgeous
The staff did not communicate between themselves. We received a phone call from reception desk at 7 am (!) to ask for breakfast time despite giving full instructions day before. We did cancel all the meals - no value for money- you even have to pay extra for coffee at breakfast.
The view from our room was fantastic, woke to see beautiful Mt Fuji. Made good use of the onsen. Comfortable, spacious, simple, traditional Japanese room. Food was good. Shuttle bus from Odawara worked well.
Not a lot to easily walk out to. The cablecar up the mountain was good, but otherwise a tacky resort.
Hotel excelente. Limpo, comida saborosa, funcionários atenciosos
O onsen era bem moderno, nao me pareceu tradicional
Beautiful! Staff was very friendly, food was excellent and location was nice!
One of the best experiences we’ve ever had. The manager made our stay so special from the welcome until the goodbye. Moreover, we were celebrating my husband’s birthday, so they invited us to a glass of champagne. People were lovely the whole time, and all the facilities were amazing (we were lucky because Mount Fuji was 100% visible the day we went there, and the views from our room were fantastic).
Nothing.
Sense of calm and tranquillity. The Japanese food was fabulous. We loved using the hot spring baths. So relaxing. We could see Mt Fuji from our window.
I liked everything
Great location next to lake and activities. Room had amazing view.
Furnishings a bit dated. Onsen was pleasant but no cold plunge for female section.
The staff are very nice, the meals are exceptional and the private onsen in our room was nice and hot
It is a distance from town, it does have a shuttle which helps but it only runs every hour
A vista do quarto, a comida é os onsens!! Tudo maravilhoso!! Passaria lá 1 semana inteira a desfrutar!
Nada!
Stunning view of Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji. Welcoming and helpful staff who communicated well, with good English,. The onsen experience is so relaxing,. The authentic room with its stunning views encouraged us to unwind and refresh. Being free to wear the yukata throughkit the hotel is relaxing😊And the meals (breakfast and dinner) we're all full of variety and traditional in presentation.
If you don't eat neat, it is necessary to communicate this in advance of arriving.
bon petit dejeuner
beaucoup trop cher
The room is really big and spacious. With view of Mt Fuji and Lake. The staff are really friendly and approachable and proactive in their service!
Not much ventilation in the toilet however the toilet area is big.
Beautiful location!

Bellissima vista sul monte Fujii. Pulizia.
Waking up to a view of Mt. Fuji was unreal. This is a ryokan and we loved everything about it. I would highly recommend staying for two nights so you also have time to explore and properly relax. Parts of the hotel could use a little TLC(hence the 8), but this did not affect our stay at all. There is a complimentary shuttle bus from the station that must be booked in advance, which was very convenient. Our room was massive and had a private onsen, which was wonderful to relax in after dinner. The public onsen has both indoor and outdoor baths, as well as a sauna and all were excellent. The food was amazing and beautifully presented - it truly looked like artwork. There are many small dishes, so you definitely will not go hungry. They also have a very nice Japanese white wine on the wine list. During dinner, the staff move the zashiki seating and prepare the futon for the night. The next day during cleaning, they put the futon away and restore the seating area. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - I am sorry I cannot remember everyone’s names. When we arrived, Teshima and Fujisaki greeted us at the bus and helped with our luggage. Teshima checked us in, explained all the facilities and walked us to the room to show us how everything worked. Our room was ready when we arrived at around 12:30 pm, so we were able to check in early. Fujisaki checked us out and is one of the kindest people. At dinner, Cheng and Hou took great care of us and explained the dishes. Liu kindly brought ice to the room and opened our wine for us. We will definitely stay here again when in the area and highly recommend Ryuguden.
