The stay was amazing. Loved every part of it !
Great hotel and service. Very friendly and professional staff. Beautiful location. Fantastic breakfast (quality of the food and its presentation, and reasonable size of the portions)
Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Great breakfast options. Nice lounge areas. The hotel room looked a little tired but otherwise enjoyed our stay!
Beautiful building which has been very well restored. The bar and restaurant are really nice and the food was fantastic. Very good value for money and the staff were lovely, I would book again.
Excellent surroundings - great price and superb service
We loved our stay, 5 stars :)
This property is so beautiful and peaceful
Wow! What a stunning Hotel and Grounds. Everyone was so friendly, professional and polite especially Emma at the reception - helped me beyond my expectations including advising me how to use the Uber Eats App 😁
The staff at this hotel were amazing. They were all so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delicious with excellent service. The hotel is tired and dated. While generally clean, it could do with a deep clean. Skirtings very dusty, high points in need of dusting and attention to detail in areas like behind bathroom door & bin lid. Valance on bed was rather grubby. I dropped an item on the floor and when retrieving it noticed the bed base was broken. The standard double rooms varied in size & quality. We had a fairly modestly sized room with a standard double bed with no seating whilst others at the same event had booked standard rooms and had large rooms with king sized beds sofas. The floors in the room were very uneven, almost a trip hazard as were the corridors. There is no lift and it is quite a climb to the 3rd floor with luggage. At the price point paid, i would have expected a better room experience. We had nowhere to sit and relax in the room.
We only had a brief stay but the hotel was large and very good value for money. The room was very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The grounds are lovely and location perfect.
We really enjoyed our time at the Balbirnie House. The gardens and grounds were beautiful and peaceful, and it was a great home base for us to stay near Edinburgh. The train was easy to catch from Glenrothes and took less than an hour to arrive in the city (although peak-time prices were extreme!). We had a family suite and there was plenty of space for our 3 grown boys and us, but we could have used a fan in each bedroom as the days were warm and the windows didn't open wide enough to allow for airflow. Meals at the on-site restaurant were lovely, and the staff was accommodating and professional. Overall a very nice stay!
Lovely stay in a fantastic room with superb views. The hotel is set in lovely parkland. Friendly staff and lovely evening meal in the Orangery.
Golf trip
⸻ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our overnight stay was absolutely wonderful! The décor throughout was charming and beautifully suited to the historic character of the building—it felt like stepping back in time, but with every modern comfort. The staff were the true stars—warm, accommodating, and incredibly helpful from start to finish. They made us feel welcome and well taken care of, making the whole experience even more memorable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for comfort with a touch of history!
Lovely staff
Excellent location, warm welcome. Very comfortable night’s sleep. Lovely breakfast to set me up for the day. Highlight was the coffee machine in the room. Best cup of coffee I’ve ever made in a hotel room.
ENCHANTING!, lovely setting, several beautiful lounges.
Another great stay at this wonderful and peaceful hotel. Beware of the dog (charge) - it’s expensive at £25 per pet per night. Otherwise one of our very favourite places to come and relax!
…
Very pleasant surroundings, beautiful building. perfect grounds. I had a single room only which was very nice and bright with strong water pressure. Would stay again. Maybe i misunderstood but adding breakfast would add £ 40.... Excellent stay
Generally a lovely location and grounds. Had park and pay that needed cancelled on check in, but my guests had to pay. No elevator.
Lovely place to stay and relax
Superb grounds, lovely garden, comfortable room. Suggest they think about their dining room music as technobeat not favourite with the pensioner market!! One or two minor maintenance issues - basin pop up plug & escutcheon. Very helpful staff Really irritating experience with EVcharger— not hotel’s fault but part of the reason we chose it. Restaurant prides itself on good Scottish food : public health / short life span contribution could be to offer more included vegetables!!!
Staff and grounds were fabulous. Rooms very tired and need upgrading
Fantastic hotel. Wonderful staff, food, service and setting. 100% recommend.
Excellent choice beautiful stately home decor dated but beautiful period staff very obliging bedroom well serviced with a very modern shower.breakfast superb with a large and varied choice highly recommended.
Amazing house. Large rooms, but awkwardly set up. Bath only, no shower. No conditioner in shower, no easy place for hair dryer. Pretty dusty room. But there is a lot of potential here with some minor tweaks for a better guest experience. I’d recommend management to spend a few nights in the hotel to pick up on these small things.
I must say it was a very good Daniel was very helpful 👍 much better than the last time I stayed here and the night staff
Lovely room staff friendly and helpful five star but let down with no lift
Was lovely place
So many positives: stunning grounds, beautiful property, fantastic restaurant and amazing staff. Negatives: The bed was far too soft and marks on furniture. Still deserves a 5 Star for overall experience.
Lovely hotel as a perfect place of calm through a family bereavement. Staff are superb - so friendly, accommodating and helpful. Cosy room - just what was needed.
Business trip and looked for a Hotel to relax after a long day and this Hotel ticked all the boxes.
This has been are first experience of this hotel unfortunately the coffee machine didn't work and the shower didn't have have hot water The staff were very friendly and helpful, couldn't do enoughfor you. But unfortunately after spending over a hundred for the night you would expect the
Nice single occupancy room for a party night. Had everything i needed. Nice coffee machine.
Amazing hotel with the most fabulous service. Food was delicious and an excellent choice. Room was really comfortable and well equipped. Hotel was really dog friendly to our 2 labs. Stacey on reception was particularly helpful. Definitely go again.
Excellent stay. Our first room had slight issue but hotel staff quickly offered & upgraded our room. Such helpful & friendly staff. Evening meal & breakfast superb. We very much enjoyed hotel & loved relaxing by open fire in lounge. Many thanks
Service was excellent, all the staff were extremely helpful. Food was excellent as were the facilities.
Simply the best country house hotel in Scotland. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the rooms and grounds are amazing. Breakfast is lovely. Can’t praise it highly enough. Definitely our go to hotel when we need a break!
I stayed overnight for a friends wedding, everything was wonderful, perfect wedding location! Thanks to all the staff!
Lovely place, pity I was only there briefly.
Very friendly staff at check in and breakfast where very attentive.
Amazing grounds
Excellent room and good restaurant
Excellent service, friendly staff, lovely rooms and good facilities
Would have liked USB ports for charging devices.
Although this is a very beautiful property, their focus during our time was on an upcoming wedding. Bar was closed and minimal dining options. We felt like an "after thought"and probably were. Our breakfast was very average. Our room was nice but overall unless you are attending a wedding there, I would pass on this property.
Nice stay
Great stay
Very relaxed place,
Lovely and scenery environment
Lovely hotel in a good location. Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was good . Definitely recommend
Beautiful hotel on beautiful grounds. Wish I had more time to explore this lovely property. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Staff were very friendly and engaging.
The toilet was dirty and not cleaned probably, wet towel left over taps in sink, and shower leaked all over floor and took them over an hour to clean the water up
Upgraded us to a four poster bed room I. Arrival for our wedding anniversary. Bar was a bit crazy with one person serving us and an entire wedding plus other guests. Dinner was outstanding - best meal I’ve had in ages although there was a long wait for first drink then too! will defo come back but they should try to get more bar staff.
Old fashioned beautiful character Manor House ,our room was a bit tired , and was a long walk from reception to the car park for my disabled guest . The car parking is a joke camera controlled I am a paying guest at your hotel and you charge me £10 to park there sorry not good enough . Inc parking in your tariff or make it complimentary for guests it’s not like you are in a city . I heard people had paid ££££ to have a wedding there and all the guests were charged to park , absolutely disgraceful. The food looked nice but pricey but out of principal I dined out ( because of the parking ) No usb charging points in the room WiFi was a little weak too . Breakfast ok but over priced . Room no where as nice as those advertised when booking although it was set up for disabled guests . Overall disappointed.
Beautiful hotel, set in fantastic surroundings. Friendly, helpful staff. Great function hall, beautiful bar (The Library). The room was large, very much in keeping with the style of the hotel I'll definately be back.
Stayed with our 2 dogs, very nice room, huge with sofa, so very convenient Staff were super friendly and efficient, hotel and grounds were gorgeous.
New parking arrangements not publicised before trip. An extra £10 a night on top of the room price and meals is extortionate. Electric bays put close to the hotel with well kept car park. No disabled spaces at all. Further away car parks in very bad repair and a long way to walk with suitcases etc. Very grumpy receptionist on arrival l No help with usage particularly with no lift. No disabled facilities at all. Later receptionist very friendly. Excellent meal. I intend to put this on trust pilot also
Drawing room nice to sit in. Fires were lit and hotel was warm. Bedrooms/ bathrooms could do with some updating.
Stunning venue Dog friendly Beautiful scenery and walks Staff - couldn’t fault. Really happy to help. Stunning place. Great brekkie and just enough I’ll be back But make sure I get there earlier next time :)
A terrible terrible stay. Noisy with nobody to help/
Staff were all excellent, as was the food & drinks. Room was very comfortable and clean, and the building had a lot of character. We (including the dog) enjoyed sitting by the log fire after dinner. Short one night stay but would return in the summer to enjoy the grounds more.
Very quiet and old historic building
Staff was friendly and professional. Room was comfortable. Setting was lovely and interesting from a historical point-of-view. Getting in and out if the tub/shower took a bit of mountain goat skills, because it sat high off the floor. It’s probably cost prohibitive, but adding a lift and key card locks to the room doors would be beneficial, especially for serving guests with disabilities.
The property was absolutely beautiful, I felt like a Queen staying here. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with our questions in what to do in the area. I would love to come back and stay a whole week!
Lovely hotel, clean and quiet. Dog friendly room - although the restaurant is not (but if we wanted breakfast with our dog they would set this in the lounge if required). Nice big room and big bathroom, just a shame in such a big room that it was only a double bed - could have done with a king! Breakfast was good, food in the restaurant ok - but we did only have the burger and fish and chips. Staff were pleasant. Amazing grounds if you are staying with a dog - plenty of space to walk.
It is a beautiful place :)
Great stay. Friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast and dining options.
Fantastic staff couldn’t be more helpful from chai in to check out
Way cool country manor house with nice restaurant and a bar with excellent beer. Nice to sit outside in the garden and drink, and even to go golfing for a quite reasonable price at the Balbirnie Park GC. Highly recommend if you like castles and such.
Limited dinner options but beautiful grounds, grand building make you feel like royalty.
Just wish we could have stayed longer.
Last minute booking as was meeting up with old friends for a birthday party. Couldn’t get booked anywhere else. We had a room in what I guess would have been the attic. Lovely decor, spotlessly clean and comfy beds, but the main issue we had was the window. This was more of a sky light which we couldn’t see out. It had a blackout Roman blind but as the pull cord was missing we couldn’t close the blind. Meant we were woken up at 5 am when light poured into the room. For £200 a night I would expect to be able to close the curtains. Staff were also thin on the ground. When we got back to the hotel after our meal a wedding was just finishing up. As our taxi pulled up to the hotel we could see 2 guests sitting on the roof of the building. This did not look safe so I went to reception to inform them, but there was no one there.
comfortable and clean
Room was lovely and spacious. King size bed very comfortable. Breakfast a huge disappointment for a 4 star hotel. Limited choice. Poor service. For a hotel of this calibre would expect better quality. I know we are going through a pandemic but have stayed in other 4 star hotels during this period and have experienced much better quality and service. Previously have dined at this hotel and had no complaints, good food. However, they are letting themselves down with their breakfast. Feel I could have purchased similar at a local cafe for £5 and enjoyed it more so!
Superb spacious room and a delicious tasting menu with paired wines. Certainly recommend for a relaxing short break.
Easy check in, very good service, and great room. Bar was taken over by a wedding, as was the restaurant, so that was a negative. Very much a wedding Hotel. Jeep that in mind. No gluten free effort made whatsoever in the bistro. That was a disappointment.
Period/historic so character - comfortable and good value for money
good place for walks in the woods too
Fantastic hotel, upgraded to a suite. Food was lovely, staff were very friendly and helpful
Excellent property staff extremely helpful beautiful surroundings
Really disappointed with our stay. The staff are lovely but that's really all that's positive. The first room we were given was tired and run down with mould in the bath and damage throughout the room. The staff moved us to another room without hassle. This was definitely better but still not great and we were kept up all night with pipes clicking. I know it's an old building but most people that stay are expecting a good nights sleep. The cooked breakfast the next morning was disgusting. Coffee was bitter and the food was overcooked and dry. There's not a huge amount of choice in the Glenrothes area but I would look at some alternatives before booking here.
All good , lovely place. Been rhere several times.
I just love this place but I do feel they let themselves down with the bar service every time. Breakfast could have been a bit more pleasing to the eye.
We stay here 3-4 times a year & have never been disappointed. Brilliant location & facilities
Superb place to stay. Super clean, tidy, great staff, don't overcharge for food, super historic, quiet at night, amazing place to stay .. and I got it at a great price thru Orbitz. I highly recommend staying here.
Lovely hotel in nice surroundings.
Beautiful hotel and wonderful grounds . Staff were very helpful and professional. Decor in our bedroom was lovely. Bistro was good for food.
Really great food, very nice surroundings very pleased
The property was absolutely beautiful... The staff were very professional and friendly.. I would definitely recommend and visit again .. The only negative 👎 was I asked for an early morning call at 8am .. I never got the call !! This happened on both mornings I stayed .. when I told the blonde haired girl at reception she didn’t apologise or gave a reason why ?? This I thought was very unprofessional... to happen twice was terrible...!!
Awful food, tired decor and uncomfortable beds.
Was there 1st time some 25 years ago and it was amazing. Went back a couple of more times since and each time was also special. Last visit being 15 years ago. This time though, the premises is old and neglected. Wooden floor are stripped of any shine, white doors looks grey. And the wine list reminds me of Nando's but maybe a couple of notches up. Food was nonetheless acceptable and service though friendly and responsive, is that of Holiday Inn level.
Eautiful building and nice grounds. Food is really good. Staff in some parts of hotel not very attentive. Staff training requires some attention. Some tic required in some rooms especially stained and ruffled carpets
Truly a wonderful place to stay. Read about the history of the building and family that built it before you go ~ readily available via internet searches. Amazing architecture. Perfect staff and rooms. Food is great too. Fantastic grounds.
Lovely old world type hotel, elegant and refined. Pleasant rooms and dining areas.
Poor stay, staff unorganised and couldn't care less. Average hotel at a big price!
The overall stay was fantastic. From when I first entered the hotel, to the minute I left, the service I received from all staff was outstanding. Thank you
very nice staff, room a little worn but breakfast 5 stars
What an amazing hotel - palatial and luxurious - food in the bistro was good and pretty reasonable - probably full of weddings at the weekend but during the week quiet and good value - great breakfast
