The grounds and hotel were breathtaking The staff were attentive, professional knowledgeable and gave the best customer service we have ever experienced
Very comfortable. Staff were friendly but not very efficient.
Breakfast was disappointment. The quality of the bacon wasn't great. I chose a kiwi which was so hard I couldn't eat it. Northing was very hot. Plates, although in a warmer were luke warm which didn't help.
Breakfast was fine, until the third day of our stay, after which I became ill. So we returned home. Four days later I am still only taking fluids, because I still have diarrhoea. Have contacted my GP for advice.
The bathroom cleanliness, needs much improvement. The floor had a bit white paper under the shelf next to the sink, it was there when we arrived, and still there when we left.
We absolutely loved the room. The bed was huge, comfortable, there were robes and slippers for us to use, plenty of clean towels, a massive tv, a bowl of fruit, little snacks, teas, coffees etc and thought that was fab. The entire hotel was clean and immaculate. We went for lovely evening strolls outside and generally a really peaceful and lovely stay. Dinner was lovely, if a little expensive. The spa was clean and well kept.
The spa was lovely and clean, but we felt for what you spend to be here, there wasnt that much to fill the day. The hot tub is so small (and there is only one) that two couples could get in comfortably at a time, which meant it was full most of the time. One of the saunas wasnt working, and the other again could fill up quite fast. The plunge pool wasnt big either but I tend not to use them much anyway. That basically left the pool, which you arent going to stay in all day as its just a regular swimming pool. Once you've had a quick dip in the hot tub, popped into the sauna, and went into the pool for a quick swim, you've killed maybe an hour and the rest of the time you just lie around on a bed. This isnt my issue with it - as I understand thats exactly what a spa, and what relaxation is about! My issue is the £££ price point! I think we paid £365 for one night. On top of that, the restaurant was expensive and so were drinks so we spent probably £500/600 on one night away. It's beautiful, but we'd come more often/stay longer if the price of the rooms weren't so steep.
Great location and facilities, staff and food
Having to pay for spa entry over and above a treatment. Thankfully the management intervened but the spa isn’t worth £95 entry in isolation.
Stunning property in a stunning part of the world. Food was very good and the breakfast outstanding. Staff were fantastic. Professional, courteous and constantly helpful and smiling. Very good management.
The staff were welcoming and friendly. The setting was beautiful. The food was great.
All staff were extremely friendly and efficient. The location is stunning. Very impressive (and tasty) buffet breakfast.
No air conditioning in room. Upright cooling unit was covered in dust at rear. Noted that a Disabled access door to the courtyard rooms did not work throughout our 2 night stay.
,
Wife got food poisoning. Overall poor experience for cost. Would rather go somewhere else in future
Pool lovely disappointing that one of the saunas out of operation.
Food not hot enough and took a while for my breakfast to arrive when people around me who ordered after me got food first. Lights in hallway covered in dust. Need to provide instructions on operating tje air conditioning in room.
Beautiful property beautiful location
Everything! Location, style, welcome, experience and stay!!
Absolutely nothing
The hotel was far too anonymous. The breakfast was cold. My room was small for the price. I could not eat in the restaurant as it was fully booked. I only got a shower no bath.
Beautiful property, well maintained and lovely restaurant and bar
Nothing!
Great bungalow which was clean and very comfortable.
No microwave made it difficult to make quick meals.
Spa
Spa steam room and jacuzzi closed.
Great facilities
Nothing really
Location beautiful
Spa always busy, too many guests Food in bar was expensive and incredibly average. Not worth £30 for a burger.
Nice looking building and good food
Much better 5 star hotels in Scotland. Cameron House is miles above this for example. Stood at reception for 30 minutes isn’t good enough in my eyes and the spas hugely over hyped
We were in one of the cottages -clean, modern, spacious, high specification, lovely location with well tended surroundings. The hotel and facilities are set in stunning surroundings
There was nothing we didn’t like but a few more kitchen items would help for those wanting to self cater and a microwave would certainly be helpful
The young waiting staff at breakfast were lovely. The rooms were good with good views.
No one came near the room for 3 days to clean, make the bed or give water and tea bags etc. I asked and paid for champagne and chocolates to be in our room for my husbands 80th birthday, I went to reception on the morning of his birthday to ensure they were delivered by 1pm as my husband would be at the practice range and this did not happen, I had to go down and remind them which I was angry about as it spoilt the surprise. The food was not very nice considering the price and on the second night I send both meals back. The breakfast was ok but all the food was crammed into small containers and did not look appealing, but there was plenty of it. The golf course was not well signed to the different holes and we got lost a few times.
Sehr schönes Hotel in traumhafter Landschaft.
Nice little cottages in the grounds of a luxury hotel. However the small cottages are no longer connected to the hotel so all the facilities were at extra cost (£65 just to go in the swimming pool for example). The staff were a bit off hand and not especially helpful e.g. the food store was an hour late in opening so we couldn’t get milk on our first morning for a while. It was ok, nice location in the borders but expensive for what it is. The new hotel manager Richard was helpful over our special meal in the hotel.
Additional fees to use any facilities Rather off hand staff at the cottages who didn’t seem bothered that we had been waiting outside the shop for an hour (no explanation was given for the late arrival)
Very comfortable bed
If you stay in a cottage, there is a £65 charge for using the pool facilities which we were unaware of at the time of booking.
provide our own
no access to swimming pool etc unless paid £65/person which we thought was outrageous
SCHLOSS Roxburghe is a truly beautiful resort. The grounds are stunning, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and our cottage was fantastic. We really enjoyed the quality of the accommodation and the overall setting.
Unfortunately, there is one major downside that significantly affected our experience: as a cottage guest, you feel like a **second-class guest** compared with guests staying in the hotel. Despite paying a premium price for a cottage, access to some of the facilities you would normally expect at a luxury resort is heavily restricted. If you want to use the swimming pool or sauna, you have to pay an additional **£95 per person** per day. Even more disappointing for us was breakfast. Cottage guests are not allowed to use the hotel's breakfast buffet – **not even if they are willing to pay extra for it**. We specifically asked whether we could simply pay for breakfast in the hotel, but this was not possible. This creates a rather strange two-tier system within what is otherwise an excellent resort. When staying at a property of this standard and price level, we would expect all guests to have the option of using the main hotel facilities, even if an additional charge is required. It is a real shame, because almost everything else about SCHLOSS Roxburghe – the beautiful estate, the excellent staff and the wonderful cottage – was outstanding.
Well maintained.
Difficult to get to, maybe a shuttle bus provided for train passengers.
Beautiful spa area and staff were great.
Bed extremely uncomfortable and room was very hot. The shower was pretty disgusting. Had black pieces of grim and dirt coming out the shower head covering my skin. The food we had at golf club was awful to say the least. Microwaved - parts extremely hot and then freezing cold. We felt like the time to check In and try use the spa to time it closed and catch somewhere for dinner wasn’t great. The steam room I think it was, was smashed and unusable. Felt it very strange that we couldn’t even buy a bottle of water anywhere or no drinks/teas/ coffees from bar at the spa area for such a beautiful relaxation area. Felt like we had to get up and leave to try and get a drink. Then don’t really have time in morning after to use the spa again before check out. Overall very poor for the costs paid. I don’t think we would recommend.
Beautifully situated for our travel needs and watching the Hotelplanner Event.
No Netflix on the bedroom TV’s. Need Smart TV’s!!
Breakfast was good, but I've stayed in this property many times and whilst it was good overall, it is not as good as it used to be, which was a far more personal experience. It now feels just like a hotel.
I thought the atmosphere was lacking
The spa facilities were amazing.. We stayed in the cottages , so being able to bring the dog was great. The whiskey bar was open till late , cocktails were amazing also. The overall hotel is extremely impressive. Having £25 to spend at the shop on breakfast items, was a great wee touch. I will definitely be back to this luxury experience.
Nothing!!! I was extremely impressed with this hotel experience. Highly recommend
Beautiful grounds and buildings, and incredibly friendly staff.
the cottages said “breakfast included” but this isnt actually hotel breakfast, this is £25 to use in the store to make your own breakfast. We were also told we’d get a discount at the spa but were charged full price. Despite having a massage booked, we also had to pay £65 per person to use the pool for an hour before our massage. I do not recommend staying here, it’s a price gauge and incredibly expensive for what it was.
Nice location- and that is all.
I have stayed at quite a few Hyatt hotels with my family and usually had a pleasant experience. Not here however. Located nicely int he countryside (therefore two and not one star), it is rather far from the next restaurant outside the hotel. Needed dinner for ourselves and our four children. Restaurants did not have tables. We tried room service and were told by a moderately polite concierge that room service is not available in the cottages of the hotel. I offered to wait and take it. I was then told that the restaurants do not do „take outs“ (to their own hotel. Ended up driving with four hungry kids to find nothing but a take out in the next village. Breakfast the next day: booked on booking.com expressly including breakfast. Confirmation also states this clearly. Hotel says, no breakfast and only a voucher of GBP 25 for 4 persons in total to be spent in an onsite supermarket. Rip off is the polite term for this. If you want to read the other experiences with stays in cottages in this hotel, just enter the search term on tripadvisor re the fees they charge for the spa without telling you first and so on. My last stay in a Hyatt and a terrible experience. I cannot recommend anyone, in particular families with smaller children coming to this place.
We stayed at one of the 2 bedroom cottages. It was nice however no privacy as golfers walk right past within close proximity so can see you walking around in your pyjamas. Also to note is that you do not have access to the hotel pool. You can buy a day pass but at £95 per person per day it seems very expensive when you have already spent money on your stay. You get a £25 voucher to spend at the estate shop per day. However if I hadn’t been before I would not have known this as no one told me at check in. You have to spend it before 12 noon and cannot pool the money to do one big shop so have to visit each morning.
It was a great atmosphere and experience
Really good
Nothing
Everything absolute stunning
Nothing
Stunning property and grounds. It is absolutely spotless and beautifully decorated. The outdoor spa is fantastic
Wanted to charge an extra £150 to change from cottage breakfast to breakfast within the hotel.
Cottage wasn't the cleanest and staff weren't helpful with a few queries we had, very dismissive.
Location The spa staff were amazing
Price they also booked me into an accessible room without discussion .Reception staff I couldn’t get booked into the restaurant and had to eat in my room on a small menu offering
It was just amazing place
Nothing
Been before lovely setting
We hadn’t booked dinner and we were told to go into Kelso! Ended up in the fine dining which was a little mire than we could eat. Very good and service excellent. However what hotel puts their outside guests first?
Absolutely everything
Absolutely nothing
The spa was amazing, the food was incredible, the staff were all lovely.
Our room was in the old part of the hotel. The room was lovely but far too hot. There was no aircon and the window was stuck closed. It even melted the birthday cake they had left in the room. They did bring us an extra fan but the temperature didn't go down from 25 degrees and it wasn't even hot outside.
We thought the hotel was stunning and really enjoyed the spa facilities, these are different to any hotel we’ve been to as the pool is outdoor compared to your usual indoor spa/pool area. The decor is absolutely gorgeous and cannot fault that at all.
We had a bad experience for dinner, it took a long time to get our order, asking us for water first and then coming to take our meal order and hadn’t taken a proper drinks order. The food was okay for the price, I wasn’t blown away by this. It would be nice to have some more options or more on your plate as it was very small portions. We then went to the cocktail bar which in fairness was busy but the layout felt wrong as so many people were wanting to come in but getting turned away due to not having enough seats. Again we got told to sit and someone would take our drinks order and this took a long time. When we went to check out, someone or a staff member had got a room number wrong and tried to charge us £168 for drinks, when we only had 2 drinks in the bar. It was swiftly taken off but my heart was in mouth thinking I was going to need to fight my case and things like this should not happen
Fantastic location and very good standard throughout
Everything, Schloss Roxburghe is stunning set in a beautiful location with great amenities, lovely staff, superb food and very comfy rooms. It’s so good we came a second time and plan a third visit!! Played the golf course which was simply stunning and my partner had a SPA treatment which she wished had never ended. It’s so relaxing and the staff are so helpful and approachable and everything is no trouble to them. I could stay in that pool all day and then retire to the whiskey bar. Amazing and thanks for another great stay!
Room was lovely, great to have air conditioning. Restaurant was excellent with fantastic food. Breakfast was also lovely.
Menu a bit restricted in bar. Could do with more seating outside with umbrellas.
The hotel is gorgeous with a great countryside location. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. Rooms very modern and comfortable. Great spa facilities - with good opening hours for the heated outdoor pool.

Was amazing
Nothing to complain about everything was perfect
The hotel is lovely
Overpriced for what it is. Lacks any atmosphere some staff are friendly but others not. Not offered late check out even though I had stated I had a treatment in the spa booked. Had to check out before treatment because of timings and then wasn’t allowed to use the spa because I had checked out. Tried to back track when I said I would complain. I Won’t be going back. It wouldn’t have inconvenienced anyone to allow me to use the spa and swimming pool. Very disappointed.
Cottage was absolutely beautiful 😍 Grounds were beautiful and hotel was beautiful.
I thought some water in the cottage would have been good and more coffee either sachets or pods. In the bar I had to go up twice to ask for drinks and snacks, as paying for a five star experience it would have been nice to have been asked.
Fantastic room, hotel facilities and staff
It was very poor that we could not eat on a Sunday night at Charlie's despite being a resident ! We had to make do with a bar meal which was nice but we were looking forward to a proper romantic meal on our wedding night !
Luxury and first class service and amenities
My wife checked out at 11am and was told she had to pay for pool/spa despite being told we had 4hrs as part of the booking. We arrived late at 10pm so I think you need to be flexible in the spa allowance.
Hotel and grounds are stunning.
We rented a cottage and when we did our reservation was inclusive of everything. Unfortunately, without notifying us, the hotel changed the cottages, making them separate from the hotel. This was never communicated to us. They went from 5 star, to self-catered with no difference in coat and none of this was communicated until we arrived. So we thought we were arriving to a 5-star hotel, whin in fact it was anything but a 5-star experience. Breakfast included, turned into a hotel store credit to cook your own breakfast and full spa access turned into us being treated like 2nd class citizens being told spa access was no longer included, in addition no no housekeeping. When we communicated our concerns to every staff member encountered, they were never addressed. It was a wholly disappointing experience and the way it was handled was awful. This is not a 5-star property. A 5-star property takes care of its guests.
Food choices at breakfast were excellent. Every staff member was extremely pleasant and helpful. Bed very comfortable.
En-suite was extremely small. Only 1 person could be in it. Room was a bit small for this level of cost.
It’s peaceful and quiet, the spa is very good. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food and drink options are also excellent.
Air con in the room was not working which made it difficult to sleep. Food menu at Charlie’s Restaurant is very limited which is a disappointment as it is a lovely restaurant.
My cocker spaniels loved it they want to come back and say hello to all your guests that were swimming in the pool!
Not the property, but really frustrating that nobody answers the phone in the day and the machine says that someone will ring back and this never happened on four occasions!!
Pool and golf
No skimmed milk
Well appointed cottages Quiet Great breakfast V good service
Peaceful and location
Beautiful surroundings, spacious rooms, nice selection of toiletries & teas/coffees.
Very dark when walking back to cottage at night
Loved the breakfast and the room
Nothing!
The location. The facilities. The staff.
Nothing.
The breakfast was an exceptionally good choice and quality, really enjoyed it along with the helpful staff at hand. We enjoyed all of the aspects of the dinning and stay.
There was nothing we didn't like.
Excellent staff. Polite, well spoken and most helpful. Clearly well trained.
The hotel was highly recommended by family and friends. We were not let down. Nothing to dislike.
It’s luxurious and service is excellent.
No dressing table mirror - small thing really
We took our friends to celebrate their 60th birthdays and we had a superb time. Facilities were stunning and staff were amazing. We can’t wait to go back! Charlie’s restaurant didn’t disappoint with great choice and delicious food.
Everything was to perfection!
Ambience scenery and staff
Location difficult to get too
The location was amazing, staff were so friendly
We stayed at the cottage - it was lovely! Spacious, clean, quiet, stocked up with coffee and cleaning products. The cottage was beautiful and welcoming. We appreciated the reception staff, they were extremely helpful with organising spa stay and extending our trip! We booked a massage - the masseuse was amazing, kind, and knowledgeable - great experience!
The spa is quite pricey for what you get (limited amount of beds, 1 pool, 1 jacuzzi, 2 saunas) - not worth 40£. The main spa reception staff were not very welcoming, I felt like I wasn't being welcomed by relaxed spa staff - which made me feel tense. Submit
Location beautiful
Excellent hotel with a great spa, lovely grounds and friendly staff
Incredibly beautiful property and grounds. Delightful interior design in both the main house and the cottages. Extremely clean and well cared for. The property is positively bucolic. Would love to stay here again!
Minor detail, but of the two lamps in the cottage, one was missing a bulb and the other bulb was a terribly harsh, bright white bulb. We didn’t/couldn’t use either lamp. Would also be nice to have an instruction manual for how to operate the wall heaters, as we don’t use that style in the US and we couldn’t figure out how to use them.
Everything
Nothing
My wife liked everything. No downsides. The breakfast was particularity enjoyable.
Nothing.
Beautiful hotel and location with a great mix of facilities and activities . Cottages are spacious and market shop has plenty options for breakfast . Enjoyed golf, spa and driving range. Great whisky bar and lots of lounge areas to relax in.
Small details let it down, huge increase in day spa prices since our last visit in December, drain smell in cottage, key card to cottage didn’t work ( has happened before) which is annoying on arrival , credit for breakfast can only be spent before 12, so not on the day of check in. Restaurant is a bit formal and bar menu only has 4 options in total so a bit limited.
Would have given it a 10 if there was a turn down
Excellent plenty of food and no complaints about staff
Nothing a tall
Lovely grounds and surrounding areas. House is very modern and tastefully decorated.
The setting is fabulous, much nicer in person than the pictures suggest. Everything within the Hotel is top notch.
Some minor cleanliness issues in the room.
Very nice choice the full english breakfast left in warming containers was a little cold.
Our main meal on the first night at Charlies was a long time coming we had to ask a waitress where our food was?
Very helpful staff and dog friendly location
In the cottage, could you either supply more coffee pods or sell them in the estate shop? And/or provide a cafetière.
Beautiful setting, lovely staff.
Service charge to clean the room.
Everything especially the staff and the peace and tranquility.
Nothing
