The staff were helpful and friendly.

While the room was spacious, it was drastically pulled down by poor maintenance and outdated amenities. The furniture was old, and the curtains were dusty and visibly moldy around the corners. In the bathroom, the toilet seat cover was cheaply wrapped or patched with plastic; it desperately needs a proper replacement as it feels old and unhygienic. To top it off, the room featured an outdated television with blurry, poor-quality channels.

The location was very good, within walking distance to a few places of interest and a mall. The shower worked well. I was able to get an extra bed for my son easily.

The hotel is rather old and rundown. It appears sad and tired. The aircon did not work well on the first night. Some of the electrical sockets were faulty and the TV didn't work because of that. There was a wet patch in the room when we checked in.

The front desk staff & late check in. The front desk staff very rude and not corporate. And also their not professional. When i not happy because of late check in one if the staff not willing to help me.

酒店确实非常老旧了，但是这个价格也还能接受，希望未来可以重新装修一番。

バスルームやエントランスの照明が切れていた。 窓はあるが駐車場の壁しか見えず、日中でも暗い。 冷蔵庫がない。 コンセントが少ない。 ベッド横の照明等のスイッチが一部壊れている。

Dicen que el hotel es de 5 estrellas, pero está muy viejo para ser un hotel de 5 estrellas. En su día lo sería, pero a día de hoy, no llega casi ni a un 3 estrellas. Necesita una reforma integral urgente. A mi me pusieron en una habitación, que por fuera, la pared que daba a mi puerta, estaba comida por la humedad. Y dentro de la habitación, también tenía humedad. El WC estaba con el plastico levantado de la tapa. Con estas razones se puede comprobar que este hotel no es de 5 estrellas. No se si la piscina funciona, ya que cuando estuve, no estaba en funcionamiento y para el calor que hace en Kuching se agradecería tenerla disponible; aunque les pregunté al personal de recepción y me dijeron que habían tenido problemas técnicos y por eso no funcionaba. El hotel está bien situado, pero por la situación, hay muchos mejores hoteles que este.

L'appartement est grand et la situation est proche de la promenade en bord de rivière.

L'hôtel est très vétuste et mal entretenu. Il y a beaucoup d'humidité, la peinture des murs tombe, et ce qui se détériore n'est pas remplacé.. ainsi il manquait le tiroir du meuble de la salle de bain. Nous avons loué un appartement et la cuisine n'est pas équipée (pas de vaisselle). La piscine est mal entretenue également.

Rooms need renovating - some bedcovers with dirty marks and brown holes. Damp bubbling on wall and black mould in shower. Toilet not working properly and leaking otherwise. Cloth on chairs ripped showing it is well worn. Carpet in halls not properly laid.

The location was perfect, close to the waterfront, Chinatown, shopping centre and the bus to Smenggoh wildlife Reserve. The 3 bedroom suite was a good sized suite.

The lobby is Grand living up to their websites 5 star hotel hype, but every other part of the hotel needs some real TLC, you wouldn't know the place was built in 1998- the same year as the Petronas Towers opened. I don't think the building has had a cent spent on it since opening day, which is a real shame as it could be a grand hotel.

The location is excellent. Staff are very attentive. The room is fairly clean but old and needs to be renovated.

The lobby toilets need to be clean constantly. There was a leak and didn't flush well.

The room was big. The decor was tired. The toilet blocked up now and then and there was a lot of traffic noise. However, the staff were very kind and helpful. This hotel is not for everyone. If you are looking for 4 or 5 star accommodation then you probably will not like this hotel. If you are a seasoned traveller looking for good, cheap accommodation and you can live with things not being perfect then this is for you.

Die imposante Lobby im beeindruckendem opulenten Stil. Die zentrale Lage am Rande eines Parks. Grosses weiträumiges Zimmer.

Während meines viertägigen Aufenthaltes fand im unmittelbar angrenzendem Park ein Live Konzert statt. Die Lärmemissionen, die jeden Abend bis Mitternacht anhielten, waren absolute unerträglich. Die etwas in die Jahre gekommene abgewetzt wirkende Ausstattung. Deutliche Schimmelbildung im Bad.

El hotel está ubicado a pocos metros del Waterfront, es una zona segura. El apartamento era grande y muy cómodo, con una pequeña cocina como para hacer un té o café (no se puede ingresar comida ni cocinar)

Se nota que el hotel ha tenido su esplendor en otra época; el hall de ingreso se percibe majestuoso, hay mucho mármol, granito y trabajo en madera pero, sin embargo, le falta mantenimiento. Se notaba que habían hecho arreglos, como por ejemplo en el baño, pero no habían calculado las alturas porque la bañera le había quedado a una altura que para entrar y salir se necesitaba un banquito :). El sillón del apartamento pedía a gritos que lo limpien, las alfombras (que en un momento habrán sido de calidad) estaban desgastadas y decoloridas y la parte de abajo de la cortina del baño estaba oscura por los restos de jabón; había que abrir la ducha con cuidado porque salía un chorro de agua por el costado que mojaba todo el baño. No hay enchufes cerca de la cama para cargar el celu y lograr prender las luces fue bastante difícil porque se manejan desde un tablero (muy de los años 70); así todo, no logramos prender algunas luces. El wifi malísimo y el televisor no era smart, así que se podían ver solo los canales de cable. Tiene una piscina linda, aunque pequeña; el agua muy limpia, pero los alrededores bastante descuidados. Ni hablar de la zona de juegos para niños en el piso 8; de terror! El lugar estaba sucio y arriba de los juegos pasaban cañerías que goteaban (ver fotos). Lo que sería el espacio para hacer actividad física (también piso 8) era una zona de desechos de materiales de construcción, maderas y chapas. Las fotos del bufet que el hotel publica deben ser de algún evento porque no vimos nada de eso.

The only I liked about the hotel was the location. It was 800m from St. Joseph's Catholic Cathedral where I attended my late brother's wake and funeral mass.

1. There was hardly any toiletries provided...only 1 small bottle of body wash. 2. The bath towels were old and frayed at the seams and sides. Also had some stains on it. 3. There was no foot rug when stepping out of the shower. 4. Only 2 pcs of bath towels were provided, no other towels. 5. The bedsheets also had stains on them. 6. The mattress was sunken at some parts of the bed. 7. The walls had stains on them. 8.The wood behind the doors were rotting. 9. The cover for the kettle was falling apart. All this from a supposedly 5-star accomodation.

Worst experience, not 4 star. Dusty and mouldy, on 10th Jan 2026 no running water at all, cannot use toilet, nearby mall and hotel has water available. No solution from management. The management is not trustworthy and irresponsible towards basic necessities of hotel guest.

The room was dirty, daggy, unclean, the bathroom was grimy, the bathroom door and shower was broken. The room was basically a 0 star hotel even worse then a bag packer hostel

The wellness floor on level 8 was horrendous, with dark alley with abandoned features and structures dotting the whole hallway towards the swimming pool. Swimming pool water is murky.

A very old colonial-style hotel. It is a bit run-down in terms of furniture and style, but still clean and very spacious. Staff is helpful, the massage on level 9 is highly recommended. Check out the promotions for Thursday (ladies) and Friday (gentlemen).

The A/C system is outdated so difficult to control, still the temperature was good.

Merdeka was in a good location for the touristy spots. However, the staff didn’t really give the feel that they were happy to have us there. They did their job, but there weren’t a lot of smiles or helpful gestures of any kind. Beautiful lobby, but the rest of the building was very dated and in rough shape…great need of a makeover. Price was good, but in this case you kind of got what you paid for. The hotel restaurant and massage parlor were not bad. Over-all I had a rather “meh” feeling, and would most likely opt for a different place if we come to Kuching again (which we will most likely do).

The staff were great however the hotel itself is dated and all furnishing are showing signs of wear and tear. The second elevator giving access to my room 614 was out of order for my 7 days stay.

I stayed in this hotel 12 years ago and it was amazing, but now, what was once 5 star service had turned into a budget hotel. Or maybe less. The place is now just a memory of it's former glory, with carpets in dire need of replacing, phone that is just not usable, and furniture so ancient. I think the saddest part is that the Victoria Arms is no more, which was once the highlight of that place. The staff however were pleasant and I know they were trying their best to provide the best customer service, but due to the lack of things, they were unable to do so. They can't even provide a bucket of ice just because the Victoria Arms is no more. I hope whoever owns the hotel is reading this so that you can do something about this once magnificent hotel, but if they just don't care, then it will be best if they just sell the business to someone who will.
