Provider-sourced guest reviews.
We had the room right above the reception desk and as this is an old building, noise was a bit of an issue, as was the very narrow stairs up to the room, which made it difficult to bring luggage up. Once in the room, however, it was all that we needed and we had a good stay. Again, our window was near one of the operational units (which was a little noisy thorughout). Nonetheless, the bed was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was excellent.

Great location and atmosphere. Safe parking for the motorbikes.
I was in one of the external buildings on the third floor with no lift. Nice room when I got there though. We were told to book dinner for 6pm at the latest so a couple that we’re going to be late ate elsewhere then, in the event, we didn’t get served all our meals until 7:45. Good food though.
Really clean hotel room, fairly spacious, few mins from castle, good breakfast and during the day / evening the pub serves food as well. All the staff I interacted with were very friendly.

great location, friendly staff
Excellent location and accomodation. Courtyard to park motorbikes. Staff great. Ended up eating here, all good. Would recommend.
Nothing to note
Great location and large comfortable room
50 stairs up to our room.
Great location within Caernarfon’s historic city walls. Our room was comfortable, although the bathroom and the shower especially were very small/tight. There are quite a few stairs to the rooms, which is worth knowing in advance. The bar downstairs is lovely. The staff were polite but rather reserved. We didn’t have breakfast due to our early departure. Parking is available next to the hotel for £13, although free parking can also be found in the town centre. Caernarfon itself is a charming town and definitely worth visiting.

Ideally located in centre, lovely room. Car parking on site or nearby
Radio music playing loudly outside until late at night
Loved the setting within the fortified walls of the castle

Well appointed suite. Helpful staff. Free car parking. Excellent breakfast.
Caernarfon is absolutely beautiful as is the Black Boy Inn itself. The staff were lovely.
For meat eaters without allergies, the food looked and smelled excellent. As a vegetarian coeliac, the options were very limited and a little bland. I fully accept that I’m the awkward one here, but if might be worth looking at those options. The 5 bean chilli was very bland. The breakfast was ok, but not remarkable.
Everything Excellent
Lokalizacja Klimat
Good bedroom with excellent bed and rain shower although no bottler water. Good to be able to park at the Inn.
We should have been able, as residents, to book a table for dinner.
Location
Room noise at 6.30
What an absolute joy of a place to stay! I'd expected it to be good, from what I'd read up on beforehand, but the reality was even better. We splashed out on the four-poster room, and it was totally worth it. High praise for all the staff we had any interactions with, who were without fail lovely, welcoming, caring folk. We didn't eat evening meals there, but the breakfasts were first-class and excellent value.
Nothing at all to dislike.
Modern rooms. Inside castle walls with Caernarfon castle 2 mins away, the location is amazing.
I stayed in one of the basement or lowest floor rooms where you cannot open windows, which was inconvenient.
Location and staff excellent
Dinner was very poor and expensive
Staff could not have been more attentive and accommodating to us and my 88 year old dear mum was looked after by the staff so sweet
It retains character in the beautiful city
Very pleasant staff. Great location. Nice room. Good breakfast.
Room was a bit hot.
Off street parking for 2 motorbikes was great. Good location and plenty of good local restaurants to eat it.
It was a shock to find that we were in a totally separate building around the corner. It was hard work in torrential rain, full motorbike gear and luggage!
Storico pub in centro, parcheggio ben gestito, ottima posizione appena dentro le mura.
The staff rushed to help with thw wheelchair ramps without being asked :-) Food was great only stayed 1 night - do a sponsored Zip Wire trip.
The helpfull staff
Car park very tight.
Clean tidy and friendly
.
The most beautiful inn inside the city walls. The room was comfortable and with beautiful surroundings
There was no negatives
Location
Need a fridge in the room
The room was a good size with a comfortable bed Great shower
Parking was a bit awkward
Good location and vibe
Nothing
There is one particular dragon on reception who is positively unwelcoming. Nice staff otherwise
Rooms very hot even though the weather was cool. The air conditioner in our room was so noisy as to be unuseable
The location was good
There was no way I could have bought milk or water for the room, didn’t seem to be any facilities for any room service.
Posizione. Ristorante
Camere molto calde senza possibilità di aprire le finestre
Its the second year i have stayed here for THe Off Shore Power Boating and Its perfect in everyway but would prefer the choice of jusy Room price as I never had breakfast
We had stayed there before and just wanted a central base for exploring Caernarfon and the area. So we knew what we were getting. The Black Boy is clean, well run and efficient, food is good and it has a relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for us.
Can't think of anything that failed to meet what we'd expect. We will probably go again in the future.
Location was great and the room lovely

Fantastic Location - we had Breakfast and Evening meals during our stay - excellent menu and food offering, we thought and the food in general was excellent, the location inside the walled old town is excellent full of character - We booked the Caernarfon to Porthmadog Heritage Railway First class Observation Car during our stay highly recommended, a lovely way to experience Snowdonia
Minor criticism, the room we stayed in seemed to be very warm, compared to outside temperatures, secondary double glazing made it difficult to try to air the room, thankfully a fan was supplied within the room which allowed a comfortable nights sleep
The properties are owned by The Black Boy Inn, but are not all located within the historic building. The room we stayed in was sufficient, and plain. It had a large bath, and was clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. All the buildings which form part of The Black Boy Inn are within the ancient castle walls, and that is nice.
I had expected to be in the very old building, and I was a bit disappointed I wasn’t. That is why I booked it.
Friendly accommodating staff .. we loved everything 💕

The room we had was a very short walk from the Black Boy and was very clean and a good size and the bed was very comfortable. Even the stairs to the room were very clean and it smelt clean.
We had to pay for car parking as they had no permits left.
The History and the atmosphere of the old building.
Everything. Always a nice stay.

Netheid kan beter. Achter het nachtkastje vonden we nog lege verpakkingen van een vorige gast.
Great location Staff very attentive and helpful

The room
The room was uncomfortably hot The food was disgusting Lack of sleep
Everything was lovely, clean and comfortable. We've stayed here before and will return again. Caernarfon is a lovely small Welsh town. Great place for a couple of nights away.
Heavy fire doors banged by other guests throughout the night. Perhaps remind guests thats other guests and there 🤔
Das Badezimmer war sehr schön und neu, aber leider war die Dusche nur lauwarm.
I've stayed many times at The Black Boy Inn. It's a great hotel, staff, and pub. The rooms have everything you need and it's perfectly located inside the walls.
The only negative is that I wish they had blackout curtains everywhere. In summer, the sun rises very early and some of the rooms can get quite bright.
I was there to visit the Castle, and the location of the hotel right next to the castle was brilliant. I stayed in the annex, and not the main building of the hotel, with a very spacious room. had to walk to main building in the morning to get breakfast, but was no trouble as I carried my luggage to my car at the same time. Annex is only a few meters away from main building anyway. Breakfast was very good. The pub has local welsh beer on tap as well as welsh whisky.
Ideal location
Nothing to dislike
The bed was comfortable, a lovely room. We also had an evening meal. We enjoyed very much. A pleasurable stay all round. Friendly staff.
There was nothing i disliked
Location was excellent once settled in, in the heart of the town, breakfast was not included in the booking price and I thought it was a little expensive but the food was good. The atmosphere and the history was very interesting, we really enjoyed our stay. The bed was super comfortable:)
Information on parking, I didnt realise how far we would need to carry heavy bags. We were discoutaged from using the small car park next to the hotel, as we were told we would get blocked in, but I notice this wasnt the case during our stay, for other people. The onsite parking was very expensive at £15 per night. The bath was very deep and I struggled getting in and out to shower. The room was very dark even with lights on. Shower gel dispenser was broken.
Receptionist was very welcoming and helpful with parking. Excellent sandwiches and beer on the pavement seating with parasols. Having a tower fan in the room was very welcome in a heatwave! Very convenient for the Castle .
For such an old pub it was positively plastered with plastic beams and diverse knick knacks. Nearly all staff just didn't seem friendly. Either very curt or just not engaged. Hectic food order system involving talking under a large beer arch in both bars. My gammon was so tough I couldn't eat it. The waitress collecting the plates apologised but really did not seem interested. We went elsewhere for breakfast as it wasn't included in the price.
Lovely stay in a true historic inn right in the centre of Caernarfon, just steps from the castle. The staff were so kind and welcoming. We loved all the historic small touches. Our room was modern, comfortable and convenient, while still retaining its historic charm. We had dinner one night at the restaurant and the food was excellent. Free parking voucher for the castle's long-term parking lot was a bonus and really appreciated -- would recommend that people arrive early as they have a limited number of these vouchers to give out.
Even though the heat wave had broken and the weather was cool and comfortable outdoors, our room was quite stuffy. The window didn't open fully, and I think it was above the kitchen and received some heat from the roof vents. The staff helpfully provided a fan, but ensuring the windows open better and that there's more ventilation would make the rooms more comfortable for summer stays.
Well located, cool building, lots of detail.
Nothing really
The location was superb although parking, as expected, was a little tricky. The Reception team were very helpful explaining the parking options and we did manage to secure a free parking space for 3 of our 5 day stay.
The kitchenette could have been a little better equipped with more cleaning cloths, t-towels, a decent can opener, salt and pepper and more than 2 each of knives, forks and spoons. Apart from that, the accommodation was very good.
Location was excellent. Good size room with a large bath - in the bathroom.
There was nothing not you like.
Great location. Room lovely, clean & great size.
Car parking was a headache. We were not in the main hotel & it was quite a walk with lot's of luggage.
Nice room, generous size. Quiet. Bathroom was also good and clean.
Nothing comes to mind.
Location even though we were in a separate building. Friendly staff.
Food and drink expensive. Room had dripping tap in bathroom and one of the windows did not fully shut meaning the seagulls and other noise week could hear
Wonderful stay. The accessible room was perfect. Plenty of space to move around and a fully accessible walk in shower, with a grab rail by the toilet. The room was immaculately clean and the staff were so friendly and warm.
Having to go home!
Location was good a labyrinth of rooms. Breakfast should be included
Stairs and doors not knowing which waythe doors opened
Das Frühstück war super mit freundlichem Personal.
Das Zimmer war leider in einer anderen Straße, vis a vis einer Bar mit lauter Musik und Publikum, bis nachts um 23:00 h
All good
What a fantastic place we stayed at the town house which is just around the corner from the actual pub and it was literally a SC flat. All of their properties are within the walled town and what a fantastic town plenty of food and drink places and the people are so friendly. Lovely quirky shops everywhere and the staff at the hotel where fantastic. If you get a chance go to the bakers shop near the hotel the minted lamb pasties are to die for and cream cakes. Will definitely be returning next year. Thank you so much for a wonderful time.
Nothing
Great location, good ambience, lovely staff, very welcoming, comfortable, would definitely stay again. Quaint and full of character.
Breakfast and parking is a bit pricey and should somehow be included in the room price, pillows too firm, but the bed was amazing.
Modern refurbishment and clean. Staff were amazing, especially the two female front of house
Restaurant didn’t serve steak
The room clean bed very comfortable
Road noise
The authentic aged building and the finish of the rooms
Parking charges for the attached car park, however free parking down at the castle with a permit from the hotel remedied theis.
Lovely pub with a warm welcome. Would highly recommend.
Loved every minute
The pub itself was very pleasant with a nice beer garden and good food. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful
I arrived during the June heatwave. It was 33C outside. Unfortunately my room in the black tower was at least as hot as this and had only a very small fan to try to cool a king-sized bedroom. Even with the fan running all night and the windows open I could not get the room to cool down and by the morning felt ill and disorientated. Although the room would be fine on a cooler night it was not fit for purpose on the first night I stayed.
Lovely place to stay great clean room with lovely bathroom , good menu and quick food service .
Nothing I didn’t like
was right next to caernarfon castle. lots of choices of restaurants in immediate area.
the carpark facilities. to tight. should move the stone pots to make manoeuvring easier, parking cost 15 pound a night and breakfast not included cost 15 pound per person, adds a cost of 45 pound per day. ouch.
Amazing place to stay, great atmosphere, very clean, location is on point and everyone was very friendly! First time in Caernarfon, booked up as we were doing Snowdon! Plenty of pubs around and places to eat. 😊
Comfortable and spacious accommodation. Good location and helpful staff.
Unfortunately we were situated on the third floor and we had a heat wave! It was difficult to keep cool at night despite the fan which was provided. Not an awful lot they could do but possibly two fans, one for the bedroom and another for the lounge area.
The ancient inn looked very nice. The lady on reception was nice.
The accommodation was in a different place “town house” a bit of a surprise. The rooms were ok but I was hoping to stay in the Inn. The room was very hot, the AC unit blew cold air for 1 hour and then started to heat the room up. The remote control device didn’t work. The breakfast was disappointing. I had the large breakfast which was not large, the sausages were very poor quality.
The room was spacious and met my needs. I was surprised that housekeeping came every day and cleaned the room and reset my bed. The breakfast choices were good and the staff very pleasant and helpful.
Coming from Australia and being of a "certain age" I really dislike showers over the bath. The shower itself was good, and the temperature was easy to adjust. But, for older patrons having step into a bath is not good.
Locatie
This inn was very accommodating when I had mistakenly booked the wrong dates - off by a night on a short notice booking I appreciated their ability to accommodate us in an accessible room l
Wifi kicked me out and I was not able to log back in and they required ++ information to be shred to access it in the first place
Quiet
The amount of stairs and no lift
The whole room smelled horribly of chemicals, not sure if it was a new carpet or cleaning products. We had to prop open all the windows and turn on a fan. The pub across the street added the poor experience with a loud crowd late into the evening. Went to the pub for dinner and it was a packed tourist trap with mediocre food.
Loved the history and location. Good comfortable accommodation with good food
Prime location & free parking.
Elevator would have been nice.
The car park has very handy EV chargepoints. The room had power sockets at both ends, including by the bed. The bathroom had an illuminated magnifying shaving mirror - great! The ordering system for food and drink via an app worked very well.
The bars are very busy so it is difficult to get a table in a bar area in the evenings. Therefore you are likely to be eating in the rear dining area, which is used for breakfast and has much less ambience. Parking at £15 per night is a bit steep. I only used the hotel car park when I needed to charge the car. Other nights, the Council car park nearby is much cheaper.
The venue is full of character that adds charm and history. Staff were very friendly and flexible in assisting the booking.
Our room, an upstairs Executive Queen, overlooked a side street, so was normally quiet (except on a bank holiday, when the whole town was a zoo. Fun! And the BBI thoughtfully provided earplugs for that situation. We didn't need them; things quieted down by 10 or so.) The room was just above the pub serving food and drinks. The room was full of 16th century (?) beams, which we loved; some might find them annoying to duck around. Also, there is no lift and stairways are narrow. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was large, and the windows looked out from a different time in history.
Food is pretty pricey. For those who are looking for something else, there's a coffee shop just down the street. Great pastries!
Clean and quiet
The food and accommodation was spot on, a quality place to stay
