There was a power cut that was a planned event by the power company which local businesses knew about 28 days in advance. This was confirmed when we asked at the local dairy. If Sunset Motel motel only received notice of this the day before then perhaps they should be seeking compensation for themselves from the power company. We would not stay there again because of the lack of transparency in not providing information about the power cut and the inconvenience caused. We remain very disappointed.

Reviewed Jun 13, 2026Came here on off season so got a fantastic rate on one of the best rooms they had to offer. With spa bath and fantastic views of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman, this was an absolute highlight.
The mentioned spa bath worked very well, but was clearly quite old and the whole bathroom would benefit from a renovation.

Reviewed May 5, 2026The bed was nice and warm, the room was spacious enough for the two of us, and the heater worked well. The location was also good and nice and quiet.
The amount of water condensation on the windows and in the bathroom. The cutlery was not clean, and there was no pantry. The pump action dispenser bottles in the bathroom were too restrictive to get enough product out e.g. hand wash etc. We had to sharpen the large cutting knife as it was blunt.

(+ durchgängig zwei Tage lang Regen und Sturm) + Bad bräuchte dringend ein update + Gerüche aus Kühlschrank und im Zimmer recht unangenehm (wetterbedingt ?)

Reviewed Apr 24, 2026Het uitzicht vanuit de kamer was prachtig! Vanaf een klein terrasje kan je genieten van uitzicht op de berg. Daarnaast was de kamer klein, maar prima. Vooral de beschikbare wasmachines en droger bij het verblijf waren erg handig en leuk geprijsd.
Het was allemaal wel heel erg basic, maar voldeed eigenlijk aan alle basisbehoeftes.

We booked a superior room, stating it had views of mountains, however, it seems all rooms have mountain views, so not sure why the superior room was more expensive. All rooms appear to be same size. Motel is dated, but it seems to be in the same category as other motels in Fox Glacier.

Reviewed Apr 14, 2026Sehr zentral und super Lage für Ausflugsmöglichkeiten wie den Lake Matheson (5min mit dem Auto). In der Nähe gibt es Cafes, Restaurants und einen kleinen Supermarkt sowie eine Tankstelle. Das Zimmer war geräumig, sauber und hatte morgens einen wunderschönen Ausblick auf die Berge. Wir waren mit Baby 2 Tage dort und waren insgesamt zufrieden.

The service provided by Max was above and beyond ... kindly mailing my phone charger back to Australia which forgetful me left behind.
