The staff was great, the room was comfy. My kids enjoyed their stay. My second time staying at the Royal Sonesta River North, no hotel is perfect but this one tries to come close and it’s appreciated. Outdoor patio on the 17th floor is a great place for evening drinks.

The bathroom walls had some reddish stains by the shaving mirror, not an biggie, looked like maybe someone had a lipstick mishap. But the flat sheet on the bed had some old stain on it, looked like brownish, faded smudges of some sort. Kinda unsettling once I saw it, but didn’t notice it until I was packing for departure so whatever it was, I slept with that. 😖

What a great hotel. Everything was perfect during our whole stay. The team at the reception desk is very friendly and helpful. The room is very comfy, great bed. The location is also awesome. Just at the side of the Magnificient Mile, walking distance to the riverwalk, a Red Line subway station just a few steps away and lots of restaurants, bars and even a great jazz club. Undoubtedly a wonderful option for a stay in Chicago.

Close to river walk and major attractions. Architectural boat tour was exceptional. Michigen river and Navy pier tour was also a great experience.

El personal de recepción fue muy amable para atendernos, fui por el concierto de BTS. Los chicos notaron que ibamos para el concierto y nos regalaron una botella de vino para relajarnos al regreso. Tambien cuidaron nuestras maletas luego de hacer check out, ya que nuetsro vuelo salia hasta en la noche y asi pudimos disfrutar de nuestro ultimo dia en la ciudad sin andar cargandolas de un lado a otro.

La cama es demasiado suave para mi gusto. Y en la bañera podrian poner un tapete antiderrapante ya que al entrar si estaba resvaloso y el barandal esta muy alejado para tomarlo desde antes de meterse a la bañera

We had a great room, clean and good size. I enjoyed the terrace after an evening dip in the pool.

My search criteria was a roof pool with a cityscape.

The location was great. Walking distance to many places or near public transportation.

Everything was simply amazing! We went to Chicago to celebrate a milestone birthday for my husband and Kate, the front desk manager went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make it a special weekend. We are so incredibly thankful. We had a junior spa suite and it was just stunning, the amenities and the layout just gorgeous. We felt so spoiled. The staff was incredibly helpful and so nice. The attached bar/restaurant top notch. There isn’t a thing about this hotel I didn’t like, it was all just wonderful!!

Only negative a bit was location. It was both good (close to River walk, Michigan Ave) and not so good due to homelessness and trash on sidewalks and streets. Not hotels fault. New F1 Arcade right across street.

The entire hotel is outdated. Specially the shabby carpet in the room and the red curtains, also the rooms need a deep clean.. too much dust and fibre made me sneeze.. the hotel rooms look old and classless. The valet service guy is very rude.

I wish our room had a microwave, my son has several food allergies so it would not been easier to warm Up food in our room. We also had a few stains on our bed sheets and comforter.

Dokonując rezerwacji było napisane, że znakomite śniadanie jest w cenie pobytu. Na miejscu okazało się, że tak nie jest. Śniadanie było dodatkowo płatne. Pokój miał być z widokiem na basen. Jednak w hotelu nie ma żadnego pokoju z widokiem na basen. Rezerwację dokonałam na 4 osoby, a po każdym sprzątaniu zostawiali nam 3 ręczniki. Parking hotelowy najdroższy w okolicy - 80$ za dobę, obsługa parkuje i dostarcza auto pod hotel, trzeba tylko zeskanować kod qr i wysłać SMS z numerem auta i w ciągu 15-30 min auto powinno czekać pod hotelem. Tak się niestety nie dzieje. Do obsługi nie docierają te wiadomości, na auto czeka się godzinę, jest spory ruch, a obsługuje to tylko 1 osoba. Nie polecam. W hotelu brakuje punktów do uzupełniania wody. Jest tylko jedno miejsce na siłowni.

The Royal Sonesta is in a great location! We stayed for three nights and were able to walk to almost everywhere we wanted to go, which made exploring Chicago so convenient. I slept like a baby every night, and we had no concerns during our stay.

Location and confort

The location was perfect for taking the bus or train ANYWHERE and plenty of things were within walking distance. We felt very safe in this area and saw a lot of other families walking around. The room was spacious and had plenty of room to add a pack n play. The bathtub was nice after long days exploring the city and attending a rainy Cubs game. Everyone at the front desk and at the door was very friendly and helpful. We liked that the elevator is key card access only. We didn’t get a chance to enjoy the pool, but it looked nice!

We found a pair of shorts tangled up in the curtains on the first day of our stay but other than that it was very clean! The restaurant on site was nice, but the service wasn’t particularly friendly.

We asked to clean our room only once during our stay and it was not a great job. Glasses were not replaced or cleaned, paper on the floor.

The bedroom was very spacious, well-kept, and comfortable. Overall, the hotel was clean, maintained to a good standard, and fully suited our needs. Additionally, the reception staff were great and very welcoming during our check-in.

Certain areas of the hotel feel a bit dated, particularly the bathroom, which could use an upgrade. Furthermore, communication at check-out could have been much better. Unlike our warm check-in, the receptionist made us feel more like a hindrance than valued guests as we were leaving

The AC wasn’t working properly

We loved the lady cleaning our rooms. House cleaning for us was really nice and motherly.

Check in. At check in we were told our room was available and clean. We arrived at the hotel at 0745 on a Thursday. In order for me and my family to check into our already prepared room after a long flight and travel to the hotel we had to paid an additional $100 on top of the $1800+ we already paid. Our trip started of negative due to this single action. Traveling with Marriot for over 10 years I’ve never had to pay to check into an already prepared room early.

From the welcoming check-in, free upgrade on my room, to engineering supper during a personal crisis I can’t say enough great things about this hotel. I travel to Chicago multiple times a year and this is my first stay at Royal Sonesta River North. It’s the best sleep I’ve had in the years I have been coming here, rooms are clean, and all staff have been welcoming and friendly, but it’s the engineering team, Rocco and Benjamin who went above and beyond. I lost a sentimental necklace behind the bathroom cabinet. They were in my room within 5 minutes. They assured me they would get my necklace back for me, were professional and kind, cracked jokes to ease my nerves, and did successfully retrieve my necklace for me. Royal Sonesta is officially my go-to hotel and I won’t be staying anywhere else when I come to Chicago.

This hotel is absolutely not a 4* hotel. The beds do not have duvet covers - the duvet is in between 2 sheets & was not clean. The under sheet didn’t fit the bed - see pics. These items were highlighted to the staff & pleasant and all as the staff were they thought this was an acceptable way to make a bed - it is a health & safety risk. We were a family of 4 & only had towels for 3 - had to get more sent to room. I also had a towel of my own removed from the room - it was hanging up - normal practice in hotels is that towels hanging up aren’t removed for laundry. There was no coffee making facilities in room. Outdoor garden area is very small & due to marijuana being legal it reeked of it as did the lifts constantly in hotel. Went to restaurant for breakfast for convenience one morning - not worth it - there are far better options within a 5min walk. Only positive was proximity to landmarks - I’d bet the sister hotel a few blocks away in downtown is a far higher quality 4*. Will nor return or recommend

Me gusto la estetica del hotel, su amabilidad, y por dejarnos entrar antes al hotel pagando una cuota extra. No se escucha el ruido en la noche, siendo buena zona cerca del chicago theatre, y restaurantes.

Lo unico que no nos gusto fue que hay algunos homeless cerca.

Overall, I had a good stay at the Royal Sonesta Chicago River North. The location was excellent and made it easy to get to restaurants, shopping, and many of Chicago’s attractions. The room was comfortable, but it wasn’t as modern as I expected, and I did notice it was a little dusty in a few areas. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but I think the housekeeping could pay a bit more attention to detail. The highlight of my stay was definitely the staff. A special shoutout to Antwonne, who was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. I also want to recognize T in the CBR restaurant for being so friendly, attentive, and providing excellent service. Overall, despite a few minor issues with the room, I enjoyed my stay and would consider staying here again because of the convenient location and outstanding customer service.

It was very central close to the blue line at central and lake. Easy transfer link on the train to and from the airport. The staff were friendly and gave directions to sights and recommendations, the room was very clean and spacious, the shower and bathroom facilities were excellent

Would have liked tea and coffee in the room. It was served in the ground floor area in the morning but like to be able to relax anytime with a cup of tea. The bed Fra had a really wide wooden frame that I walked in to a couple of times. We ended up moving the mattress to cover it.

No luggage rack in room. Had to put luggage on bed to unload and pack. Not cool. Also asked for a handicapped room. It was not. Could not take a shower or bath. No grab bars!

I booked a king spa suite for a birthday staycation, and everything was fantastic! The room and amenities were great, as was the service, especially Antwonne in valet. Even the breakfast at CBR was pretty good. The location was near quite a few restaurants and shopping. Would definitely book again.

Didn't get any sleep as the gym does not close and people are in any hour of the night banging down the heavy weights on the 17th floor not realising wakening up the people next door. Obviously pool at one side of gym but don't feel there should be a bedroom at other as just not fair to get sleep interrupted every night, I'm sure rooms on floor below heard it too. Gym should have certain opening hours even from 6am onwards Coffee in morning was empty by 9.15 on 2 mornings feel should be replenished until 10.30 On check in had to wait for someone to appear then/ had asked prior to arrival for rooms on same floor, for my sons -however we were allocated on different floors and no the room beside gym was not a reallocation it was original room for us the parents On checkout handed cards to reception stating "can we check out please " She took cards off me, never spoke to acknowledge, never asked room number or anything no offer for invoice. Strange Another gentleman comes alone immediately after asking exact same "can I check out please" he received total different level of customer service. Which was just baffling hence this review as I very rarely take the time to submit a review but constructive criticism can be very valuable to management

I was bitten by bed bugs or any bugs at night and woke up at 3 am, very exhausting experience.they change my room next day but did not offer anything for my discomfort there. Please also check the location map before booking. We got confused with another one with the same name just by riverside so that disappointed us too. Overall wont repeat this.

Cleanliness

We arrived early because of flights and were a family gathering with 3 rooms. Gabriella at the front desk was so kind and helpful in getting us into our rooms early for the tired travellers. Kind, friendly and such a friendly nature, she made our experience 5 star! Dean and Spiro were friendly doormen who also made our stay a cut above. The rooms were clean, comfortable and lovely. Some of us used the pool and loved it. The location was great and we have only great things to say about our stay.

Have stayed here before as the Kimpton Palomar back in the day. Was wonderful then. We arrived early so we had to wait for our room in lobby (understandable). Lobby was super dirty. Rug was nasty and ripped. Chairs we sat on were ripped and filthy. Note to hotel: you need to upgrade your lobby! We dreaded getting our room, but to our surprise, room was large, super clean and very nice. If rating on room alone: 5. If rating on lobby: 2 (filthy). Overall: 4. Not sure I will ever stay here again.

This is a very comfortable business-type hotel in the convenient River North district. (When we were there, it seemed there were a lot of conventioneers.) The room was comfortable enough, despite a few drawbacks (see below). The staff was uniformly very friendly and helpful, and that made our visit a real plus.

We were surprised that a hotel of this level did not provide in-room coffee/tea service. Schlepping down to the lobby to get a cup of morning coffee is a drag. Also, the facilities in the bathroom left a bit to be desired (insufficient towel racks, no face soap provided).

Great location for getting around the city, short walk to the river walk area. For a solo traveller the room was nice and big plenty of space, very clean and tidy. On the downside hotel and room starting to look a little worn but doesn’t detract from the atmosphere and vibe of the place. Disappointed that the CBR bar was not open on a couple of nights but hotels loss not mine. Very friendly staff everyone had a smile on their face, always greet you as if you are their best buddy. Shout out to Beyoncé on reception, following travel delay and a stressful problem with my booking company, Beyoncé took ownership of the situation and sorted things out in 5star manner, even called up to my room to check everything was OK. On checking out after 5 days she remembered my name great customer experience. Will definitely stay here again.

Antwonne was especially exceptional

Spacious clean rooms and friendly staff. That being said, beware of the shared pool with the residents next door. We were not notified that this was a shared pool anywhere on their website and the pool area was taken by a large resident party. Unfortunately it was super inappropriate for children so we had to leave. We also had issues with neighboring rooms smoking marijuana and wafting into our room. We did call it in, but I don’t know if or how they actually put a stop to it because it did get better later. In the morning they had coffee, but didn’t check it regularly so it was out by 8:30 am and didn’t offer decaf. I appreciated all the staff, but I wouldn’t stay here again with a family due to the pool issue.

This hotel and the adjoining “State and Grand” condominium units all share the hotel’s indoor pool, fitness center, and rooftop terrace, and the adjoining condominium tenants and their guests have free access to the 17th floor from their own elevators . What this meant to hotel guests on this Saturday afternoon and evening was a five hour full volume pool, terrace and “ hallway party”, which was held right in front of our room’s door, with limited hotel guest access to the pool and deck during this time . The hotel staff said they could do nothing about it because “no laws were being broken” and they have “ no control over the condo”. So, you see there is an absolutely terrible arrangement resulting in a real disregard for the comfort and security of “ temporary” hotel guests in favor of the condo residents . Hotel staff apologized but repeatedly explained there was nothing they could do. They don’t have authority, They also don’t know what to do. It is hard to believe a Royal Sonesta hotel could be run like this. On top of which the gym is open 24/7 and weightlifting /heavy dropping of weights takes place at all hours, making it impossible to sleep well in the rooms next to the gym if its in late night use. Of course condo tenants mostly use the gym which explains their lack of concern or consideration for the hotel guests . There is something seriously wrong with the way this hotel is being managed, and being misrepresented, as well.

The room and service was excellent! The staff made our first trip to Chicago a great experience. Shout out to Spiro for the great service and restaurant recommendations!
