This is a lovely - old fashioned property. Like the family vacation inns of the 50’s 60’s … 80’s!! With new comforts. Great, Cindy beds … a quaint dining room with an excellent, small menu. Loyal staff, in one evening there was live dinner theatre, an excellent pianist playing a baby grand & a Rick & roll singer in the pub. Beautiful gardens … a rolling estate … sure, older in style, but also in the style of service & attention. Great value.
Pleasant stay. Not as exciting as expected. Room was clean and comfortable, decor is a bit dated but fine, balcony with nice view, a safe, mini fridge, and bathrobes - all appreciated. Note no elevators, and stairs are steep. Breakfast was included, and while it was fine, disappointed that it wasnt great. This is a culinary school. Their meals, even in the pub, used to be delicious. Have been disappointed the last couple of years (including the Thanksgiving brunch- after a late opening as well). Breakfast was a limited choice from the menu, and served with yogurt in its packaging, syrup, ketchup, jam all served on plastic takeaway. Very odd choice for a fancy restaurant. Grumpy service too.
The Inn was absolutely fabulous. Right from the checkin to checking out, the staff were marvelous, efficient, friendly and professional. We stayed in a lovely quaint room inside the Inn. It was clean, quiet and just very comfortable. We went to the bar for appetizers and a drink, returned later for dinner and entertainment. The music was great, staff attentive and friendly. Food and drinks were top notch and all the patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves. We even had a stroll around the property and gardens. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. The evening was magical and the breakfast the next morning was wonderful. I cannot wait until I visit again.
Room was okay - huge bathroom, miniscule shower - and our building smelled mouldy. Stink bugs flying onto our dinner table in the restaurant which was pretty gross, incorrect information given about the pub so that when we arrived early next day to see the band which was to start later, band had started and not a seat left - no reservations allowed. Food at breakfast not fully cooked. We won't be returning and don't recommend.
Disappointing Upon arrival, we were not given the room that had been confirmed at the time of booking. I had specifically reserved a room with two double beds, but instead received one double bed and a rollaway. When I raised this issue, I was told there had been a “miscommunication” because I booked through a third party. I was also informed that rooms with two double beds were located in a building currently closed for fire safety renovations. However, later that same day, I saw guests entering that building with suitcases, which made this explanation confusing and frustrating. The room itself had a strong musty smell. While I understand the building is older, improvements such as replacing carpets or better ventilation would make a big difference. To make matters worse, there was no hot water in the morning, making it impossible to take a proper shower. When I reported this at checkout, there was no apology or offer of compensation—only a brief mention that maintenance would look into it. Given that The Waring House is not an inexpensive place to stay, I expected a much higher standard of accommodations and customer service. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience.
It was our 40th wedding anniversary and we chose to celebrate with a dinner on Dec. 21st. The meal was the WORST we have ever eaten. It was obviously reheated from the night before when the restaurant had had a large gathering attend their buffet. I had lamb shank - it was dry and tough. My husband had the pickerel. It was overcooked and dried out. The moumd of mashed potatoes were crusted and tasteless. Overwarmed but not hot. The vegetables were similar-mushy and colourless due to overheating. At least the meal was consistently terrible. We couldn't get away from the table fast enough.
New year's Eve, beautiful upgraded suite that we were happy to pay premium price for, wonderful servers. Lovely 6 course dinner till the main came.... we were offered and ordered rare prime rib but were served med to well done We returned our plates and unfortunately there wasn't any rare to be had so we said fine just adjust our bill, dinner was over $300 with tip tax and wine We continued to enjoy our evening with drinks a few dances, a couple of hours later I was accosted by an elderly, frail woman who told me that I should be ashamed, people were starving in the world and we had wasted perfectly good beef, she went on to say that she would have eaten it and that we should not ever come back to the Waring House This woman it turns out is the owner. If you dine at The Waring House be sure to clean your plate off!!
Dec. 19 We booked three rooms and dinner in the fine dining room that evening. I checked in and confirmed our dinner reservation. We just got into our room when they phoned me to say there was no fine dining that evening because they were doing a Christmas buffet for a large party. We could have the buffet or eat hamburgers in the pub. I was not happy. The buffet was okay but they had a very limited vegetarian selection. Also the curtains in the rooms were half off their hooks and one room the whole rod fell off the wall when trying to close them. We loved the old home atmosphere but the place really needs an upgrade. However, breakfast was great and the price was reasonable so not a huge complaint but probably won't go back. Staff were lovely.
Enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was included and was awesome with a full menu, not a buffet. Our server was excellent and very friendly. There were only 2 servers with 15-16 tables and yet they were super efficient. The TV in our room did not work the first night and the front desk did not return my call. It worked the next day before a service man arrived.
Although the room was clean and accommodations were comfortable. The ceiling in our room above the bathroom door starting leaking during the night. I woke up to the sound of water and things falling around 4:30am. Waking up to find part of the tile around the light fixture had fallen. I turned off the air conditioning unit as the blower was just above this tile and light fixture. I couldn’t get back to sleep as I was worried something else would come tumbling down. I alerted the front desk and showed photos. There was no way this kind of damage occurred in one night as there was staining on the adjacent tiles. No apology was made, no offer to reduce the cost of the room. The pub food and service was great as well as the live music in the evening. Breakfast was great, if you ask for orange juice though, you will get half a glass. The breakfast wait staff seemed overwhelmed, we felt like a burden.
Front desk and staff in Amelia’s garden and breakfast crew were amazing!
This is a successful hotel property with fine dining and a cooking school. We had a superb package deal which included a sumptuous breakfast and fine dinner. Everyone here is very friendly and service-oriented. You can pay A LOT more in The County, but we can truly recommended the superbly comfortable suites at Warung House.
good
Enjoyed the amenities and spacious rooms.
Beautiful estate. Clean and friendly! Pure joy!
Lovely atmosphere, comfortable rooms and plenty of dining options
Nice. But close to a big road. Full of historical charm.
There was a spider over my bed and ebs. The balcony chairs were griss. The entry smelled stale snd weird. The food was goid. Breakfasts great and grounds very pretty
Everything was top notch
Good room, very clean!
The service was amazing. The room was cozy and had what you needed. We booked the pricate hot tub room so we could use the hot tub but unfortunately the hot tubs are not able to actually keep the water warm once the cover is remove. Our water went from 104 (when we first got in) down to 96.
The included breakfast was excellent...but our room was "tired". Stains on the rug...battered dresser and night table tops which they covered with clear glass after the fact. The furniture itself was gorgeous Gibbard...shame previous visitors did not respect it.The lounging chairs in front of tv needed a good clean. So wanted to open sliding door but screen was full of holes and a few hornets were lingering between door and screen. The Muskoka/ Adirondack chairs were strategically placed on balcony overlooking fields but they were not inviting as they were covered with mould spores. I was so disappointed as Waring house has been our go to resting place in years past. Their gardens are still spectacular even in the beginnings of frost filled nights.
The room was nicely appointed, comfortable and all staff were very pleasant. Included was a breakfast off their menu, which was very good. The outdoor gardens and surrounding property added to the ambience.
Beautiful property! Room and bathroom were very spacious. A served breakfast was included with hotel fee and was delicious (local produce used)! Enjoyed the stay!
Lovely spot, very nice little breakfast service, big rooms, very quiet, friendly staff.
Excellent pub! Room a little dated but okay.
We had a beautiful time at the waring house. You dont even have to leave the property. The free breakfast was very good. We had dinner at the pub. It was delicious. The grounds are beautiful.
Huge bathtub but very small shower.
Loved having the Pub within walking distance. Breakfast is delightful and grounds/ gardens very natural and serene atmosphere.
We held our wedding at the Waring House August 2025. Excellent food and the atmosphere was just what we had hoped for - calm, outdoorsy, classy but not too fussy and very personal/family feel to the place. Nora, the owner, personally ensured that the table settings were perfect. The wedding planner, Malinda, provided strong direction and timelines to keep us on course with the planning, while welcoming and empowering our personal contribution and collaboration. The talent of Howard the pianist and Veronica for makeup and hair were outsourced support that Malinda recommended, and they were perfect. Problem solving is key to any big celebration, and the team at Waring house certainly delivered. The guests were pleased with their accommodations which were plentiful as we had many guests coming from both east and west of the province. We had so much fun and our family and friends did too. Gardens were beautiful despite the drought. Thank you to the Waring House staff for all your support, kindness and generosity."
The Waring House offers a truly memorable experience, and it starts the moment you arrive. The grounds are impeccably maintained — lush, inviting, and clearly cared for with pride. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making sure every guest felt welcomed and well looked after. We stayed in the Quaker Lodge, which struck a perfect balance between modern comfort and historic charm. Our room featured a lovely balcony overlooking the Millennium Trail — an ideal spot to enjoy a quiet morning coffee or unwind in the evening with a glass of wine. Dining at The Barley Room Pub and Amelia’s Garden was a highlight. The food and drinks were consistently excellent, but what really stood out was the level of service. While we did notice occasional moments where the staff seemed stretched — something a few other reviews have mentioned — what impressed us most was how gracefully and kindly each team member handled it. Their calm professionalism and friendly demeanour turned any potential hiccup into a moment of connection, not inconvenience. Will definitely be back and I can’t say enough about the total experience of The Waring House. *disclaimer, this is a real review from a real unbiased and very happy customer.

The best way to describe our stay is that it felt like visiting a close family member’s home. Even if there was a slight delay or an item ran out, the staff approached it with honesty, a smile, and a shared laugh — making us feel like part of the family, not just guests. And FYI this is an honest and real review from an impartial and very happy guest. We will definitely be back
We loved the open friendly atmosphere and staff. Enjoyed the heritage setting too. Breakfast was excellent.
Lovely country setting, enjoyed entertainment during dinner. Good value.
All of the restaurant meals were delicious. The grounds were very pretty and very well kept. The room was spacious in a beautiful old building, formally a historic house I believe.
Everyone so helpful and nice. The Waring Pub is top notch. Rooms were clean and so quaint and comfortable.
The property is a little tired, staff were all pleasant and helpful. Good breakfast, but our dinner in the Amelia restaurant was expensive and poor quality. We had the chicken breast that must have been cooked earlier and it was super dried out with no seasoning whatsoever. The lamb was ok. They were all out of PEC wines which is ridiculous as that is why we were visiting the region. They need more attention to the dining experience
Pros: close to the town of Picton, has that cool country vibe, has a bar and restaurant, really beautiful gardens. It’s a quiet place and great to relax. I had read recently about extra charges the hotel likes to give you. Cons: they charges me twice for hotel fees, when I checked in and then again when I checked out. I told them this and it was like talking to a wall. Although it says “free” breakfast it’s not. They charge you on the way out whether you like it or not. The staff smelled sooo bad of old cigarettes, it was disgusting! You want to smoke? Fine but not during business hours or if you know you smell like you have been rolling around in 2 week old cigarettes butts and never bathed. This was reception. Then at breakfast I caught a waitress coming from a smoke break like…your cigarette smoke is the last thing I want to smell at breakfast. I booked this hotel because I thought it was different and at the time I booked it, it had great reviews. I would not recommend. Book somewhere else, you can get decent prices if you book months in advance.

What a find!!! We loved everything about this place ......the accommodations, food, location, etc. We most certainly will be coming back.
Great location excellent accommodation and food
Property was very well maintain. Area was quiet and safe xhort distance from restaurants and shopping. The only problem was some staff at the breakfast but that was quickly solved.
The rooms are very roomy and clean but a little outdated decor wise. The staff at the front desk as well as the bartender at the pub (for live music) and the waitress at breakfast were all excellent.
The King mattress in ou bedroom has a big hole in the middle. So when I slept, I was always rolling in the middle of it. I think it would be better if they could change this mattress. Thank you
Friendly Staff. Good food and entertainment. Room was ok. Faced the road (noisy).
The patio door had no lock. Also a shower is preferred over bath only. The staff was great and grounds lovely.
Everything was great from the room the food and music at the pub Great atmosphere we will be back. Friendly helpful staff.
Breakfast is good. Rooms are old and terrible. Dusty, dirty, old. Avoid booking if possible
No comment
The suite was most comfortable Bed was firm and cosy Dining options close at hand but kitchen closed by 8
Cozy little place near a alot of areas. The Pub is lovely!
Brilliant!!
The condition of this hotel was shocking to say the least. It was clear the rooms hadn’t been cleaned in years - dust, cobwebs, spiders, hair on the linens, and a very strong smell of must and mildew throughout. The deck door did not lock so I felt very unsafe for my entire stay. The front reception was not very helpful and quite cold at times. The only upside of this place is the adjacent pub and restaurant where the breakfast and staff including Heather were wonderful.
Staff are very good and the free breakfast was excellent
We stayed for one night for a 60th wedding anniversary celebration. I think the rooms inside the house are much nicer, than the “quality inn” type rooms in the 2 story walk ups. My father in-law found it difficult to manage the stairs with double knee replacements. It would have been nice if the receptionist had taken visual note of his cane and offered him main floor accommodations. My bathroom tissue box was empty and was very dusty. It was obvious no one had cleaned it in quite some time. We have stayed here several times over the years. It feels like it needs a good refresh. The breakfast menus for example, had items that they don’t make anymore, however because they are laminated, and cost $1 to make and they have 100 of them it’s too costly to make new ones. As explained to us by our waitress.
Breakfast was wonderful, staff was great. Room was dirty, bathroom fan was thick with dust. Room had a dusty smell, curtains were full of dust.
Very small room for the price. Not recommended
Need renovation , rugs , mattress
The room had tons of black bugs They were on my kids beds and all over the bathroom. Room not the cleanest. The staff at breakfast was very nice and friendly. On checkout, they charged me an additional 160$ claiming Expedia only paid them 850% even though I paid the full 1200$ up front. They refused to provide a breakdown on the expenses and I had no charges to the room. I will be filing a complaint with Expedia and the owners. Avoid this hotel at all costs!
New building but looks worn already needs a refresh. For the price well worth it, service and facilities good
The Inn carpet has the basement-like musty smell. The room is overly scented, perhaps, to cover up the musty odor. The staff is friendly and professional.
The contrast between the beautiful, well-kept grounds and the outdated interior couldn’t be more striking. The lobby is a cluttered mix of worn sofas, coffee tables, a heavy bookcase, and a table awkwardly placed right in front of the main doors. Wall-to-wall carpeting throughout could use a deep cleaning. Our room was spacious but lacked charm, furnished with a sagging sofa, a glass-covered wooden coffee table, old wooden bureaus, and curtains in faded floral prints that felt like relics of another era. The bathroom was clean but clearly dated, and a watermark stain on one of the upholstered chairs added to the overall tired feel.
Lovely
Both restaurants were excellent. Best breakfast included with your stay, that we have experienced. Need to advise folks staying upstairs. It was ok for us, but didn't know in advance about staircase.
The Waring house is an excellent resort to visit. The food was great and the entertainment each evening was fantastic! The staff was so polite and helpful. Would go back
Great location and excellent hotel and restaurant.
We did not get the room that we paid for and on trying to get the staff to honour our booking, they wanted more money to give us what we had already paid for. I will never return there. It was a safety hazard for seniors!
accomodation was ok, maybe some minor details would need love but no dealbreaker. The attached restaurant are another story. See OpenTable and google reviews.
Conveniently located. Very hospitable staff The menu needs a little help. Not enough variations for me
The following is a redaction of an e-mail sent to the Waring House in August. “In October 2024 …we had such an enjoyable time that we decided to make the Waring House our go-to destination for 2025. In January we made bookings, requesting the same rooms we had in October, 1 accessible with 2 beds and a standard room with … dinner in Amelia’s Garden. Our bookings made on January 24, 2025 were for: March … July … [we changed our preferred date to get the rooms we needed] October … (this reservation was cancelled at checkout on July 31). In March we were told the dinning room had not yet opened for the season. The front desk said there was a small group having dinner in Amelia’s Garden and checked with the kitchen to see if they could fit us in, which they did. We felt like we had been fit in as the food was no up to the standard we had enjoyed previously, there was an over compensation of quantity in lieu of quality. In the morning we saw housekeeping in the foyer … and mentioned the light over the fireplace was not working and had not been working the previous October. When we returned to the room the bulb had been changed. In July when we checked in we were informed our rooms had been changed and I said that was okay providing they met the criteria of the rooms we had requested. The first rooms we were … [assigned had] no accessibility. When I explained the need for accessibility we were reassigned …, with the comment that … [the] room had a hot tub, “but please don’t use it as I’m not charging you for it.” Upon checking into … the accessibility room, it only had one bed. … the compromise was a cot, which I was told was very comfortable. (…this was not the case). When we arrived for dinner we were informed there was a private function in Amelia’s Garden and were seated in the dinning room. Unfortunately during dinner there seemed to be a procession of kitchen pots passing by and halfway through dinner the live entertainment started in the pub and the volume intensity in the dinning room was the same as in the pub. As a result of our experience we felt it necessary to give you a guest perspective. All of the staff we encountered throughout our visits were most polite and tried to be accommodating; however, there seems to be a lack of attention to details and the finer points of facility checks …, planning/scheduling and adjusting to the guest needs.” We had to request a response as our e-mail was received as an “opportunity for me to let the staff know how and what we could be doing better from a guest's perspective, and I do thank you for this.” The reply came with an apology and an offer for a two night stay with a discount for the second night. Our response was “a more appropriate gesture would be compensation by way of a partial refund for our experiences and inconvenience.” The reply was; “I am unable to offer a refund at this time but I am happy to offer you the discount on a future stay.” WE WILL NOT BE BACK!!
I recently stayed at Waring House on Sandy Hook in Prince Edward County for a 2-day getaway, and I have to say, I was extremely disappointed. From the moment I walked into the room, I could tell that this place hadn't been updated in years. The carpet was stained and extremely worn out and the bed were more or less makeshift one. I didn’t expect luxury, but cleanliness is a basic requirement, and unfortunately, this resort failed in that department. The room had a musty smell which made breathing hard and even though I opened the window and the patio door, the smell remained. I also noticed a lot of dust behind the furniture. It was clear that they weren’t paying attention to the details when it came to maintenance. On the positive side, the staff was friendly enough but since I had booked via Expedia, they said they could not help us in any way. The property itself is amazing, quiet, well maintained. There is a lot of potential with this resort, well located within the PEC. I wouldn’t recommend this resort to anyone unless you're okay with staying in rooms that have not been cared for in years. If you're looking for a relaxing, clean, and comfortable place to stay, this is definitely not it.
Breakfasts were amazing Lived the fireplace in the room The landscaping and flowers were beautiful
Beautiful property
Standard room was small … Also I did not like that the screen door and the patio door could not be locked .. locking mechanisms on both were old and bent and could not be used .. not impressed .. Kim
The Waring House was well situated and provided basic needs during our overnight stay. The room was very clean but somewhat dated. High point was breakfast included in the package. A lovely dining room and good food. Note that the Waring House is set up like a campus made up of multiple buildings so the restaurants are not in the same building as your room.
Very friendly staff
Quietcarea close to town. Large clean room. Pub area needs renovation to make it more comfortable and attractive
This place is great if you want to go to the Sandbanks Park, it's very close. It also has a good restaurant and a pub. We enjoyed our suppers at the pub very much. Also Picton is just few minutes away by car. My only negative comment is about the quality of the mattresses - horrible. We had a queen bed and it had literally 2 holes, one for each person! I never saw it that bad, specially considering the price we paid. Hopefully the management will do something about it right away, we did mention it when checking out. Otherwise everything was great!
Room was an adequate level of clean. Some stains on the couches and carpet, but beds and bathroom were clean.
Spacious property
Bel endroit calme à quelques minutes du village de Picton. Grand terrain, petit sentier pédestre dans le champ. Bon déjeuner.
We were disappointed with the food on the dinner menu!
Loved the hot tub, the suites big bathrooms, bathrobes.
Payed a premium for ok service. Stayed 2 nights and did not have sheets fixed or towels switched.
We had booked 2 double beds in a premium room but we were given a king bed instead. We were unable to change rooms unless we took a regular room nor could we be given given a discount for a regular room due to booking on Expedia. Bathroom was large but no kleenex and no face cloths. Carpets stained and bed us weirdly lumpy. Vending machine was not working. And if anyone is not aware there are no elevators so beware if you can't do stairs. Not an issue for us but might catch some by surprise. Ok place to stay for an overnighter.
Not clean, all days the same breakfast, not profesional , take a long time for become you breakfast for simple eggs!!
Beautiful gardens and wonderful full course breakfast served to you. Nice pub attached to Inn with live music five nights a week. Lovely staff and very helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
It was a great stay in every way
Cute spot, room was a bit dated and worn. It provided way at we need.
Clean, quiet, good breakfast!
The property and room were very dated. Staff at check-in were gruff in manner. Food mediocre in the Barley Room but the atmosphere was fun. Breakfast in Amelia's garden "got lost" althouhh the garden itself was lovely. Very poor value overall.
Excellent place to be with family
Loved the property Very spacious and the staff was extra friendly. Our room was amazing with a hot tub outside the sliding glass door.
Our July 2025 stay at the Waring House left a lot to be desired. We have tried to contact the property privately to resolve our concerns but haven’t heard back despite 3 attempts to contact the property. Upon arrival, we were greeted by unenthusiastic reception staff. Despite branding itself as a “resort” we quickly realized it was anything but. The staff were confused when we requested ice because there was no ice maker in our building or fridge in our room. We felt like we were an inconvenience the few times we requested assistance. We immediately noticed our room in the House Next Door building was damp and musty, with the carpets feeling wet to the touch. The curtains had dust and dirt fall from them when we moved them. The charming and quaint rooms we saw in photos in reality are dated and dingy. The bedding didn’t fit the beds properly which resulted in the mattress pads pulling up and exposing the mattress. Housekeeping barely attempted to make up the beds on our second morning, with the bedding tossed on the bed and the mattress still visible with no effort made to actually make the bed. The bathroom desperately needed a deep cleaning, with urine and dust on the toilet paper holder and built up dust in the vent. The restaurant staff were the friendliest we met on the property, with Heather and Izzy being attentive and made our stay memorable. We would not return to the Waring House and caution other travellers who are considering booking this property.
Enjoyed my experience
Clean, well priced and great view of millenial trail! Really cute little pub
Staff were friendly and the Barley Mow Pub is charming but the place has seen better days. Breakfast was a fiasco as they lost both our order and also that of another couple. The tattooed staff were not well organized and seemed more interested in cracking jokes than providing proper service. Don’t order the corned beef hash.
Loved the look of the house
