Excellent breakfast Have used this hotel a number of times. I know what to expect. expectations met

Big carpark which was free for guests. Room was big and had a large en-suite with bath and shower. Bed was comfy. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast and evening meals were good and the bar was great for cosy evening catch ups

Our room was a little bit tired. The hallway had clearly been recently painted as it smelt freshly decorated but the furniture in the room was a bit worn and wobbly, sink in bathroom had a couple of little chips out of it, the hot/cold marking on the taps had worn off and the fan in the bathroom didn’t work. But it didn’t affect our stay and we would not hesitate to book again - we had four friends that also had rooms and they all thought it was a lovely hotel too.

I especially wanted to eat in the restaurant on my birthday only to be told they had no steaks. There was no mention of this earlier

The breakfast was lovely for me, however there was no muesli for my husband. The yogurt was delicious.

Our room was on the ground floor and it was noisy with cars and people passing the window.

Room is very dated. Lots of mold and rust all over the bathroom fixings and tiles.

The bedroom was clean and comfortable, didn't have a breakfast.

The evening meal was really disappointing and probably the hardest pie crust I've ever had to battle with. The rest of the meal was fine.

The property is fun down rooms need to be refurbished.

Firstly the staff are brilliant - both in reception and in the bar/restaurant. It is a very nice quiant place although I would say the rooms ar a 'little tired' - that said, very clean and comfortable beds and pillows. I will stay again when I am in the area.

Not much to dislike overall, although the wifi is very poor and "hit & miss" plus the TV (or at least the one in my room) was very small...

Overal staat aangegeven op te passen met t hete water dat uit de kraan komt maar wij hebben de douche niet op een aangename temperatuur kunnen krijgen. En als je de douche koud zette bleef er gloeiend heet water uit de kraan van het bad komen zodat in t bad douchen onmogelijk was

Staff helpful and accommodating so I could leave luggage prior to check in, food is always plentiful and tasty. Bar staff very good.

Room decor was very tired and there was too much light able to get into the bedroom. Tables in the pub / breakfast area were sticky to the touch.

The room was almost clean. The main room was clean but the toilet bowl was brown at the sides for the 4 days I was there. The decor was appalling and the whole building is old and in need of a complete upgrade. At the front of the building above the sign there is a tree growing out of the wall.

The room was on the top floor, 3 flights of stairs so not great. Stairs very creaky was conscious of disturbing other guests, but a old building so inevitable. Had difficulty locking/unlocking room (door handle lock definitely needs replacing). Room smelled musty/damp & there's clear evidence there's been leaks at some point as wallpaper peeling & bubbling. There appeared to be a fair few clumps of dog hair on the carpet. Tea coffee on floor under T.V., personally think it's dangerous trying to boil a kettle & pour drinks on the floor. Loo roll holder falling off wall & on a slant & Bathroom floor lino badly stained. The curtains had hooks missing so alot of light came through at dawn & if you tried to draw curtains that are behind the T.V. then the T.V. switches off!! We had no electric the final morning!! Where the room is in desperate need of a refit, it gives the appearance of being dirty, I don't think it was unclean, just desperate for a decent redec & refurb.

Staff not as Frendly as we have experienced before ,and we have stayed for the last 7 years twice a year Wonder whats the matter . Also the bathrooms need showers not all people can get into a bath.

We had a warm welcome by reception. The location was excellent right in the heart of the town. Plenty of free parking which is a great bonus these days.

One thing that wasn’t working was the fan in the bathroom.

It was during the heatwave and the room was boiling - no aircon but a fan was supplied - had to sleep with curtains open with fan at the window to blow cooler air into the room. The mattress protector meant we were both sweating.

The hotel is clean, attract and in a good location. The parking was on site and free. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We had an evening meal which was waste and nicely presented. The drinks are reasonably priced.

Our room, number 68, which was classed as a Business Double was very small and extremely hot. It was on the ground floor and had a small window with a very small opening quarter light window. The heavy net curtains which were necessary to block passers by gazing in also blocked any possible fresh air. If we put the light on in this very dark room we had to draw the heavy curtains for privacy which made the room even hotter. A small fan was provided which did afford a small relief from the heat but it was insufficient to make the room bearable. We had only booked for one night however after trying to get some sleep in this sauna we would most definitely have insisted on a room change for a further night. We booked bed and breakfast and they do have a very good cooked menu with lots of choices alongside a good cold selection of fruit, cereals and pastries. Unfortunately the cooking of the breakfast was poor. We all ordered poached eggs and five of the six had to be returned as they were all hard. The bacon had been precooked and was over cooked which was a pity because it was tasty. One of our party had the smoked salmon and poached eggs which she said was excellent once they replaced the over cooked eggs with properly cooked ones. On the positive side when we complained about the eggs the staff member was apologetic and got them replaced quickly. We have stayed in several Green King hotels and had breakfast in all of them so we are able to make an educated comparison. This was not the best which was a pity.

We really enjoyed our stay. The property has a lovely, quaint and welcoming feel, with lots of character and charm. The staff were absolutely lovely — friendly, helpful and genuinely welcoming, which made our stay even more enjoyable. It had a relaxed, homely atmosphere and was exactly what we were looking for.

Very outdated accommodation, both decor plus furniture. I get it’s an old pub but improvement necessary! Bathroom tap, shower screen and sealant falling apart, mould, water pressure inconsistency, both for loo and shower, carpet shrinking away from the walls, didn’t feel clean in areas. Room door didn’t lock properly (1970s) Not adequate measures taken to accommodate the heatwave ( no air conditioning) small fan supplied not adequate, just about working

Windows in the rooms can not open fully. No aircondition. In the night impossible to cool the room down. House rool about nö beer for 17 year old guy together with family and dinner.

Very comfy bed, booked a single room including breakfast extremely good value and a huge choice of breakfast items.

Lovely big south facing window but it was prevented from opening more than 2 inches, thankfully a fan was available and the curtains had blackout linings so the room was kept cooler. Shower head setting didn't work so had to call reception, lovely head housekeeping lady came to my help, she couldn't move it either, it was set on hot and had I got under the water I am sure I would have been scalded, had to go to another room that wasn't occupied to use that bathroom. Thankfully that was a possibility as the guest hadn't turned up if the hotel had been full..

As there was 11 of us it was a big order for breakfast but it all arrived the same time Meal in the evenings were excellent with brilliant service good menu with plenty of choice The staff were all great and worked very hard

The shower in our room was difficult to turn on and off so in need of some WD40! No other complaints

The staff were so nice, helpful and welcoming. It always makes us feel well disposed to a place when we feel valued as customers. The pub is a bit tired but the price of the room is very reasonable.

Very nice room, friendly staff. We didn't use restaurant on this occasion as we were visiting family. We have previously and it's always provided good food.

War alles ok. Frühstück ist englisch, wer das nicht mag hat nicht viel Auswahl , aber darauf ist man eingestellt wenn man in England unterwegs ist.

Het ontbijt was goed, de ligging was uitstekend om de streek te bezoeken en het personeel was zeer vriendelijk.

Voornamelijk de kamer zelf, het was er zeer heet, er stonden 2 ventilatoren maar de ramen konden niet volledig open. Ik zat met mijn hoofd tegen het plafond van de kamer. Het internet viel geregeld uit. Dit hotel heeft een grondige renovatie nodig, voldoet niet meer aan het comfort van deze tijden.

Das Hotel ist typisch englisch, so wie man sich das vorstellt. Alles gepflegt, Zimmer tip top. Der Receptionist der uns eingecheckt hat, ein junger Mann, sei hier extra nochmal erwähnt und gelobt. Freundlich, kompetent, hilfsbereit!! Auch die anderen Mitarbeiter, Reception und Housekeeping waren immer freundlich und haben immer geholfen. Alle Fragen beantwortet, Hinweise und Tipps gegeben. Meine Lebensgefährtin und ich sind sehr angetan. Pub und Restaurant ebenso gut mit Gästeorientierten, freundlichen und kompetenten Mitarbeitern. Für ein Landhotel mit Pub und Restaurant wird dort der Gast, weit über Durchschnitt, sehr gut betreut. Das Frühatück ist prima, reichhaltig und man kann aus verschiedenen Zubereitungen wählen. Alle Sonserwünsche von uns wurden erfüllt. Qualität paßt auch. Abends gutes Pubfood, heiß serviert, lecker, prima. Wir hatten roast, fish and chips und anderes. Preis-Leistung paßt, England ist aber etwas hochpreisiger als Europa. Wenn es uns wieder nach Hampshire verschlägt, werden wir dort wieder zu Gast sein. Sehr empfehlenswert!

Shower difficult to get balanced temperature

It felt like true village pub hote. The bar and restaurant was excellent and staff so friendly and accommodating. I was there for 3 weeks from Australia visiting my very sick dad. The Red Lion was a shining beacon at the end of each day

Updated tv with smart controls netflicks etc and live tv in the pub would be good not just sky news on repeat. A small fridge in room for fresh milk as the Moo sachets needed three for one cup. Just some positive feedback to stay competitive😊

The breakfast was excellent very nice bacon, and the other things on offer were also very nice.

I did have an issue with one member of staff behind reception, i brought in a cake and drink from the bakery facing and sat in hotel reception in as it was shaded, at the time of my trip it was 36c most days and you could not sit in your room for long as temps there were 40c +, the receptionist told me i could not eat or drink in the reception even in the extremely hot conditions. I did say that it was not in any of the hotels food selling areas and i was paying to stay there and also reminded her that it's impossible to eat in my room or outside due to the temperature, but she didn't care.
