Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The breakfast was good and the staff provided wonderful service.
The room smelled musty and damp. Had to leave the windows open to air it out. The evening staff in bar totally ignored us while we were waiting for service so we left the bar.
Only the staff, the 2 ladies are very helpful and kind. Good customer service
It needs an urgent update long time ago.
Nice little breck
Tv kept turning of every 10 mins and the bathroom looked like it was falling apart with so much sealant around the bath and sink and wasn't as clean as it could of been, and the fixings on the wall are not straight in the bedroom
Bed is comfortable and big. Staff generally nice although some members are nicer than others.
Bathroom is worn and stained. (Maybe mouldy?) Toilet constantly running. Constant droning noise of a machine somewhere. Heavily overpriced.
Generous portions at evening meal. Reasonable prices. Friendly evening bar-keep.
'Full English' breakfast a little sparce; had to ask for toast and only received four slices for three diners. Very tiny 'en-suite'. State of decoration leaves a little (lot?) to be desired.
The bar area
Room was out dated uncomfortable beds no sleep!!Bathroom was dirty shelf lopsided and very outdated intetior
Couldn't do more for you
Depending on staff breakfast servuce was slow
Friendly attentive staff, excellent food options, simple room with everything you need for an overnight stay. Accommodation is above the restaurant/pub and it was nice to sit in the pub in the evening. Onsite parking. I would stay here again.
All was good.
The Break-fast. Was Amazing ..Room was. Very poor
My first night .single bed broke ..
Hot water and breakfast
Room 9 needs updating
Breakfast and location. Old worldliness of the building
Too many fire doors. No elevator.
Location was perfect Breakfast was tasty
Beds very uncomfortable Bathroom dirty and no shower gel Only plastic cups for water Hardly any furniture Depressing lighting
Convenient for ferry. Beer available! Characterful building
Nothing really considering its a low cost option.
Excellent food served in a lovely tudor style restaurant/bar area and very friendly staff. Comfortable beds and location close to motorway for easy travel into Portsmouth and surrounding areas
No lifts
Nothing
Room and entire building tired and dirty
Location, dinner and super helpful and friendly staff
Bed was comfy clean linen and clean bathroom
Needs updating very old fashioned dark colours on woodwork made it look very drab and old
Welcoming and friendly staff. Good breakfast. Location near the ferry port was ideal.
Bedroom decor was pretty tired, and the shower was functional, but a bit dodgy
Parking that's about it
Arrived checked in to what was a very basic room Leaking shower Luke warm water No soap dispensers/ Body wash
The staff were wonderful and my bed was unbelievably comfortable! The whole hotel, the building has an amazing ambience, welcoming and cosy. The ground floor is just beautiful... original beams, fire places, cupboards.... It is living history..... And the food is really good value. Having a parking place was a bonus and so was the electric fan in the bedroom! Marks out of 10???15!!!!
The exterior is shabby, but then the building IS VERY OLD! Don't look at the outside. Just wait until you get inside, you will LOVE this place!
Nice hotel with spacious rooms and an excellent breakfast. Friendly staff. Looks charming inside and outside, like an old inn.
As the name suggests, the hotel is right next to a busy roundabout and a motorway fly-over so it was a bit loud, even at night. I found mattress to be rather hard. An old building converted to a hotel with average workmanship (e.g. squeaky and uneven floors, walls with holes at joints). Relatively high price for a small town and a decent but not amazing standard of the hotel.
Very clean room including bathroom and linen; lovely, helpful and friendly staff; good choice at breakfast; excellent value.
One minor issue - there was not enough parking for everyone in the hotel car park but it was not difficult to find a spot a very short distance away.
Easy to access, room was decent and breakfast was nice too. Ladies who work there are friendly and helpful.
The room was really hot and we didn't get a fan. The bin wasn't cleared, not a big deal though.
Friendly staff, comfortable beds, lovely breakfast. Value for money
Carpark was slightly snug, but that’s all
Comfortable bed , nice breakfast
Traffic noise
Not far from the ferry terminal, very comfortable and large bed
Difficult to find the entrance to the car park at night, traffic and roundabouts confusing
Location, helpful staff and breakfast
Nothing
Great character, welcoming, friendly + attentive staff, dog friendly (( even got a sausage for Breakfast))
Very close to a busy road so bit noisy
Nettes Peroinal,
Location, Nice pub food and good breakfast
Springy beds , rusting radiators, small bathroom
Room very dated but nice breakfast and pleasant staff
decor a bit aged
Ubicación para Ferries
El hotel necesita una renovación
Staff were friendly and helpful
Bed was low quality/uncomfortable Noisy traffic due to location
Friendly staff, the rooms were clean a little outdated, however this did not hamper our stay in any way, plenty of tea and coffee in the room as well as a hairdryer, the breakfast was lovely and well cooked, would definitely recommend and will hopefully stay again in the future.
Nothing all was good.
Great location plenty car parking. Breakfast was ok. Beds comfortable and clean. Plenty coffee and milk.
Bit tired and could do with a more attention to cleaning behind sinks and window sills.
Vriendelijk personeel. Leuk oud hotelletje
Breakfast was very nice. Hotel needs a bit of a refresher.
Was a bit dirty
Really friendly & helpful staff. Good food. Incredibly cheap hotel, perfect for 1 night. Made to feel very welcome, and it was totally dog friendly!
My bed was a bit lumpy, so I had to bunk in with my mum!
Lovely staff at the hotel, the facilities were outdated and the location was at a very busy roundabout and motorway hence the name, Tudor style but had good breakfast.
Hotel was well situated for arriving on ferry from Spain and had a reasonably safe place to park our motorcycles, the lady who was on duty behind the bar was very welcoming and helpful when we arrived (didn't get her name) breakfast was also very filling and tasty.
Creaky stairs and a little bit tired, obviously that is due to the age of the building and only added to the character.
Friendly clean and everything you need.
Breakfast was ok .. eggs a little overdone but not unacceptable. Location to joining A27 couldn’t be easier Traffic on the roundabout didn’t disturb me.
Bed was supposed to be a double as I recall from booking ..it was a single. The mattress was way beyond done. Didn’t sleep during the night as I felt all the springs in the middle of the mattress. Marks and dents in the walls and a hole in the bathroom door filled with what looked like toilet paper. The hot tap on the sink was constantly dripping and after flushing the toilet it ran on for ages afterwards. The radiator is looking rusty in the bathroom too. The lamp shade was not straight on the lamp, on closer inspection the shade was actually broken. Most of these issues are easy fixes. A new mattress some paint, polyfilla, a new door, tap washer and a lamp shade could make this room worthy of the price The whole room gives the impression the owners don’t care as long as they get the money. I was told management would sort it out in the morning, a little vague but no one has bothered to contact me. I realise it’s an old building but if you don’t care about maintaining it, sell it. The picture with the shoes in the sink is from the disabled toilet by the restaurant…why?
Great location srated a few times now very good for our dog perfect he loved his stay lovely staff great breakfast
Coming home
The bar area is lovely and the food good and good value. Room was really spacious and overall a quirky building
Room was impossibly hot being at the top of the building. A fan but no air con and road noise meant couldn’t have windows open. No where to drop card for an early morning checkout and breakfast wasn’t available. Good size car park but could do with a clean up and the little garden needs some TLC
The Bar area was ok , The food was ok, and the staff were friendly.
It was “shabby”, in desperate need of renervation. It’s on a very busy round-about so noisy through the night with traffic.
The staff were helpful
The room was tired, the paint cracked, the plumbing out of the ark. The room was not checked adequately. The food was awful - how can you mess up a cheeseburger ? The hotels decor was out of the sixties. I didn’t realise that hotels like this still existed in the uk.
Easy to find. Friendly staff. Breakfast was good, the poached eggs were perfect.
Unfortunately, it was too hot, the fan was really noisy in one room, and wasn't in the other. A lot of the items it said were in the room weren't there. The TV ariel was hanging out the wall, so it didn't work. We were just unlucky to visit during a heatwave, I am sure at a more optimum time of year it would have been fine.
The hotel lovely fantastic food staff very friendly and helpful honestly fantastic pace to stay
The room was I need of an update damaged bathroom door looked like someone had given it a good kick in need of makeover and the bed needs to go no headboard at the base of the bed only the middle left the pillows which was flat as anything although they gave you more if asked they all flat and kept sliding down the back of the bed the mattress wasn't comfortable either I woke up with such a bad back worst night's sleep I have ever had. It was also very noisy slot of banging from doors shutting all through the night .
Very good breakfast, room very comfortable, staff very friendly, would definitely use this hotel again if visiting the area.
I am more shower person, so not a fan of bath shower, but fully understand a bath covers both choices, so support handles would be nice, I am 73 and just had knee surgery.
Breakfast very nice.
Traffic noise. Impossible.
The hotel is quite dated but we had a very comfortable stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were made to feel very welcome. Great value for money.
It needs some updating as looks tired and dated.
Handy for the ferry
Nothing
Room was as advertised, and although the little puppy I had with me wasn't 'officially' booked in the staff were very accommodating. Even though the room was facing the roundabout and cars periodically passed - I got a great nights sleep (6 hours of sold sleep which is something I never experience when sleeping). All in the the entire expense was very welcoming and homely. Will recommend to anyone.
The old charm it has, a mixture of the past and the present. The staff couldn't have been better. And I was arriving back to the room late on the Saturday night/Sunday morning, the staff reassured me that access into the hotel will be available at such times. Incredibely helpful.
Old hotel with a lot of history. Had a good stay. The room had what we needed. Breakfast was very good (continental and cooked). Location is great near the edge of the city if you want to stay for a few days and explore the area with car.
The room was a bit small
Bed comfortable.
Very noisy from roads and no double glazing
The staff were very proffessional and very helpful,
The issue I had was that I had to take my partner to work at 4.15 when I arrived back to the hotel at 4.45 am I couldnt get into my room as the key wouldnt work no emergency number or out of hours help I was very late for work as I asked the breakfast staff to help but that was 6.45 should have been at work at 6.30 am in Whiteley they were not happy
Excellent breakfast
Bed not that comfy abd not much room around bed
Excellent breakfast
Good location from ferry port for an overnight stay, good evening meal, homemade pies were lovely, very friendly and helpful staff.
Hotel is a little dated and tired but that added to its charm for me.
Dinner very fulfilling, and nice bar and back area
Noise from a family or someone putting on their TV at 5.30am and then talking loudly, I had a disturbed sleep which ruined my Saturday, think it was the couple with a dog-pathetic
The hotel was reasonably priced and very convenient for Southampton. Our room was quite small but it was at the back so the road noise was okay. We had a fan as it was a really hot night. The bathroom was tiny but it was passable. Little details such as there was no plug in the sink was annoying. Breakfast was good and included in the price. Staff helpful .
It was very disconcerting at breakfast when water started dripping through a light fitting onto one of the tables. Apparently room six shower leaks - I can’t understand if the hotel knows this they don’t do something? This is dirty water and unacceptable.
The location was good food was good and staff were friendly and helpful.
The beds weren't very comfortable and shower in our room was not working properly it needs a good clean or change. The fan could be a free standing fan instead of a benchtop one.
Staff was excellent
The staff were friendly and the breakfast was reasonable.
The hotel is very shabby and could do with an overhaul. Peeling paint, weeds growing everywhere outside. Not appealing at all. The inside was dirty - cobwebs around the window sills in the bar area, and the bin in our room still had the previous visitors rubbish in. The bed had the thinnest mattress I have ever seen. There were large holes in the woodwork in the bathroom door - big holes as if someone had tried to break the door down.
Location ideal for us as a stop over, breakfast was okay
Room very small despite being a “better” than standard room Shower head leaking, screen opens when standing in the bath Lots of dust around the room (skirting boards, radiators, windows) Not the best quality ingredients (cheap sausages) but okay
les lits , tres fatigués.
It was pet friendly
Friendly helpful staff.
Breakfast excellent
Staff confusion at check in as regards my pet after a very tiring journey could have been avoided. Staff at breakfast and manager apologised for detail bring missed
Excellent - very beautiful place and very good and helpful staff 😀.
Nothing
I made the choice of this hotel more for the location and price. I had to stay overnight unexpectedly and wanted somewhere between Hampshire Bowl and Hayling GC. I needed to park my car have a bed for the night, a good shower and a tasty breakfast which I got. The hotel itself is dated and tired but served my purpose adequately!
Not the hotels fault but the traffic noise is constant as alongside a very busy road system. I should think the hotel was there before the motorway!
Staff (Jody) welcome and breakfast service was excellent. Parking good, bar and restaurant friendly and accomodating. Chicken and Ginger soup lovely. Liver and bacon really nice. Room with bath and shower en suite was perfect. Heating lovely. Really nice old building kept well maintained, homely but fresh and well presented, fresh and very clean. Coffee and tea available. Breakfast included. Will definitely book again.
Nothing. All good.
Leuk hotel. Vriendelijk personeel. Nette kamer en goede bedden.
Niets
Staff are absolutely lovely and the place is in a great location. Room was clean. Shower pressure is surprisingly good!
The place is a little outdated. Several fixtures are broken or just require replacing. No mention of wifi. Electrics were a bit dodgy with flickering lights (although I am also half convinced the place is haunted).
.
.
Food was good.
The staff were super helpful and friendly. The food was great too. The building is pretty and it's location is decent in relation to other places of interest.
The interiors aren't great with stapled lino floors, a showerhead that wouldn't stay up. The shower leaked down into the restaurant. The room was very warm and stuffy with no air conditioning. No toiletries provided. Keycards deactivate if they're in a phone wallet.
Nice bar and restaurant downstairs. Excellent steak and ale pie meal for dinner and very good value. Good cooked breakfast. Southampton hotels were heavily booked this weekend so price very reasonable in these circumstances. Friendly atmosphere. Room was clean and comfortable.
Minor niggles about room difficult to use sink to clean teeth because of shelf position. Hard edges to wooden bed frame left a couple of small bruises. No major issues.
Good value for money. Very helpful and friendly staff. Good location. Excellent breakfast.
Rusty radiator in bathroom and tired decor throughout.
The staff and the food
Decor is dated needs refreshing, mattress was poor quality. The bar was open until 2 am and the noise carried through to my room.
Nothing
Everything, the hotel was in very poor condition the list was endless from mould in the shower to door locks not working how this hotel got its license I do not know and needs to be removed from booking.com.
The first lady who booked us in was friendly
When I went for a shower getting out it was dangerous and I slipped and fell out. Hurt myself. So the other 2 guests didnt even bother. The bathroom wasn't very clean dirt at bottom of shower glass. Very noisy
Never stayed for breakfast had to leave
The mattress was so old with spring in your back also the carpet was dirty my Mrs was in tears 😭
Friendly staff....nice breakfast....pub food was pretty reasonable price.
This is not unique to this hotel...quite a common problem imo..very small bathroom sink, which is then made more difficult to use by putting a shelf above it.
The breakfast each day was very good. I love this town as I used to live there
The room was very tatty and very dated. The room was not cleaned each day and tea and coffee was mot replenished each day, there are no fans to keep the room cool during hot weather
Cheap and cheerful. Good food. Comfortable room. Dog friendly.
Rickety stairs. Creaky floorboards
The bed should have had its own postcode it was so big, my room overlooked the back so I think that kept the noise level down. All the food was cooked to order and was of a really good quality. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I had a really good stay and would recommend this for anyone looking for a break. A very good nights sleep.
There was no plug in the basin, but they were not aware of that I am sure it has already been resolved. It is difficult to find your way into at first.
Location ideal for our trip to Southampton. The staff were great. The breakfast was excellent too.
The property is very tired and careworn it needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it up to modern standards.
Bit old fashioned, bed clean, bedroom furnishings quite old, poor shower, shower screen filthy, broken bathroom floor, average at best but an old building, breakfast just ok
Bathroom, very poor condition
Close to the gym and motorway
Rooms incredibly basic and aged … cobwebs everywhere
Safe parking- excellent food portions
Room was cold- asked for heating to be put on but it never was, although I was only there one night
Breakfast and staff were helpful and friendly
Bedroom window stuck slightly open. Beer choice Prefer cask or real ales
Helpful and welcoming staff, comfortable bed, good breakfast included, nearby amenities, eg supermarkets.
Rather difficult location, situated on a small side drive off the main road.
