The room was fine. The privacy was not. A male hotel employee entered my room at 9.10 AM without knocking while I was standing at the sink, topless, brushing my teeth. I went downstairs and reported it. The response was so uninterested it almost counted as a second incident. I am not asking for a novel. I am asking that staff do not walk in on half-dressed guests and that management does not shrug when told. Until then: avoid.

Great location on the high street of an old market town with lots of independent shops. Plenty of parking space which was easy to access. The hotel itself was very clean with lovely decor. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Staff were very professional, helpful and efficient. The food was particularly good with an option to swap chips for a salad which is good for us ladies who are always on a diet! I used the calories saved on my main dish and used them on an Eton mess sundae which was delicious and well worth the calories. Would highly recommend.

The whole hotel is very tired/shabby. The pub area is not salubrious. I’d booked an evening meal before arrival but cancelled and found a restaurant in a close village instead.

The food was excellent, we had breakfast and it was delicious. Handy to have blackout curtains as our room had a bright light outside.

The communal areas needs decorating and the outside area could definitely do with a clean up, lots of rubbish and cigarette butts. The shampoo in our room was empty and I asked for it to be replaced, we got more but only at the 3rd attempt.

Reception areas and restaurant were well decorated and clean and tidy. Bedroom was spacious, bathroom was well appointed, excellent shower and good towels. A fan was left in the room which was welcome due to hot weather. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very good, friendly and efficient.

Bedroom furniture and decor very tired (piece of broken off furniture left in wardrobe) We stayed for 2 nights and the room was not serviced satisfactorily; bed unmade, bins not emptied and complimentary drinks not fully topped up. The weather was extremely hot so we had to remove the duvet from its cover and found that the duvet was stained.

What I liked The staff were friendly and helpful, and they let me check in slightly earlier, which was appreciated. There was also plenty of free parking, you just need to enter your registration number at reception, which was really convenient.

The cleanliness could have been better. The carpet felt dirty and the room was very dusty, particularly around the light fittings. The room was also awkwardly sized and on a slope, fans the bed extremely high. My friend stayed at the hotel too and had a room almost twice the size, so it seems the experience varies quite a lot depending on the room. There were also lots of stairs and heavy fire doors, which made getting around with luggage a bit of a pain. The stairs were dirty too and I saw used socks left in the corridor. Also on one morning, there was a French car show being set up on the high street, with drums playing from 8am right beneath my window. The hotel hadn’t mentioned this beforehand, so a heads up would have been appreciated.

Room had plasterboard wall to adjoining room and so no soundproofing and could hear all conversation and activity until 1am and then knocking on door and slamming of door at 6am. Had very little sleep. Not an ideal situation when youve paid a lot of money for a good night's sleep. Bath exceptionally slippery and my husband had a really bad fall. There was a minute notice by the toilet ( not the bath) to say bath mats can be obtained from reception as bath can be slippery. This is no use as you can miss the notice and are not likely to undress and go to reception for a mat. This is a Health & Safety issue and the mats should be present in the bathroom.

No lift was a bit of a struggle with having mobility issues. Feel like they are a little short staffed as had to wait a few minutes to get checked in.

Our room was clean and had been recently renovated. The hotel was very pleasant and new furniture was being delivered during our stay. A central location and our room overlooked the car park, which was very quiet. I would recommend the Swan

Cooked food was presented badly and the hotel allowed very noisy refurbishment work to carry on making the eating environment very noisy and unpleasant. Raised this with the staff who said the workmen wanted to work early and this took priority over the guests

Saubere und sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtete und ruhige Zimmer. Obwohl das Hotel ausgebucht war, haben wir von den anderen Gästen nichts gehört. Frühstück mit Buffet und zusätzlichem Angebot á la carte war lecker. Nur Käse hat uns gefehlt.

Wir hatten Zimmer im Erdgeschoss, deren Fenster "aus Sicherheitsgründen" nur einen winzigen Spalt geöffnet werden konnten. Da es keine zusätzliche Lüftung gab, fehlte leider die Frischluftzufuhr und aufgrund der sommerlichen Temperaturen war es auch recht warm.

Habitacions tranquiles, molt espaioses i comfortables. Bon esmorzar a molt bon preu. Tot i ser un edifici històric, està molt ben restaurat i net.

The buffet and cooked breakfasts were good. Perfectly located for the town's amenities and has free off-road parking.

Our room was at the top of the hotel in the eaves and was very warm, making a good night's sleep difficult in this hot weather. The provision of an electric fan was welcome but was too noisy to have on at night. The creaky floorboards need attention and must annoy guests in the room below too.

Narrow dark corridors, all very grey. Our room was unhealthily hot. There were 2 fans going when we arrived, they helped but it was unbearably hot and we didn't get much sleep. We were told all the rooms were like this but I don't believe this hotel would survive is this was the case.

Overall service except one guy at the reception, if I remember correctly Scott, the price was too high compared to the service. At this price no complementary breakfast, no water etc. As it was too hot no fan was there. It was only Scot who gave me their own fan at the reception.

The whole building was really hot in mid summer. Although fans are provided, some rooms are hotter than others. I was luckily able to open the bedroom and bathroom windows in my room to create a through breeze by propping the bathroom door open. However, other family members were unable to open the windows in their rooms and had a very bad night's sleep.

The bedrooms facing the main street heat up like an oven, due to getting the sun most of the day, and with NO air-conditioning and little ventilation, the room becomes unbearable in the summer months.

I had pots of tea on two separate days. I also had a sandwich with chips and a lemon cake. I actually had the pot of tea first with the lemon cake. It was so good that I decided to order a sandwich. Deeeeelicious. Smart move. 2. The staff was amazingly kind and helpful. 3. I’m returning:) 4. Perfect location:)

The room was very hot during a heatwave! Despite a small fan. The window could only open a few centimetres and kept slipping shut.

The room was very hot not I had a fan which I trained on me when I slept - great. The room had dark curtains - very important to me. The breakfast was fantastic and great value for money. It was the semi-finals of Wimbledon and the world cup when I stayed - big screen in relatively quite lounge - great. The bar was relatively quiet - no noise at night.

There was a bad smell in my room from the morning of day 2 - I discovered it was poo in the bathroom bin which hadn't been emptied! I spoke to staff about it who were Ok about it but I had to ask again to seek an explanation, none was offered to me and even then, I'm confused as to how this could have happened. There was no lift and on checkout the staff member I dealt with was reluctant to help with my bags until I explained I had a disability. I think help should be offered outright - there are a lot of stairs. And the other guests I saw were older.

we stay here at least twice a year visiting family, so we know what we're getting and come back for that reason

the distance to the room - we were in room 47 and my mum is 75 years old...it was just a little far for her to go. You wouldn't have know though, so next time we'll request a ground floor or closer room

I was unconfident re using the shower. I know the price was standard but it still seems quite a lot. I think if it included the continental breakfast that would make it good value.

In previous stays have rated much higher, but this stay hotel was a victim of the hot weather. Whilst a fan was provided, room could only have one window opened slightly (limited by safety catch) which made it unbearably hot and hard to get cooler due to window restrictions.

Visited during record breaking heatwave, so although a fan was provided, it would have been nice if I could have opened the window a little more. Is health and safety constraining you? However it won’t prevent me from returning.

Great location, my room was very far and high, incredibly hot. Plus - I had a fan in the room. Negative - window opens only a little. If the window opened - can't draw the curtains. L’hôtel est superbement placé au cœur de la ville. Le décor est typique et dans l’ambiance que nous étions venu chercher pour une visite des lieux occupés jadis par Jane Austen.

Nous sommes tombés en pleine période de canicule dans la région et les chambres n’étaient même équipées de ventilateurs, donc très inconfortables à ce point de vue.

Considering the age of the building in which the hotel is situated it was clean, attractively decorated, with well appointed rooms and a very comfortable bed. My request for a low floor room for my elderly mother was provided without any fuss. The dinner, drinks and breakfast we had at the hotel were very good and excellent value for money.
