Understand it was a cheap room but was still disappointing.. Tiny, dark room. Not really clean (bedding, toilet etc. were fine, just everything was generally quite worn). First thing I had to do when we arrived was kill a spider the size of a 20p coin. Kettle full of heavy lime scale. And there was a stupid blue circle light on the ceiling all night. Would avoid this place if possible...

Great location and prices. Food is always good value for money.

Good selection of breakfast. Landing hallway to bedrooms need hoovering.

The hotel was fairly convenient for our onward journey to Portsmouth ferry terminal. It appeared online like an old coaching inn/pub restaurant and so we were expecting good hospitality and a warm welcome. Breakfast was plentiful and pretty decent although the sausages weren’t of a high standard.

There were numerous things we felt disappointed at: 1) Yes, we’d booked budget accommodation but that shouldn’t mean shoddy paint jobs and marks all over the wall next to the doorway. Greasy handprints maybe. In fact the hotel itself was of a poor standard considering it’s a heritage asset. Looks like it’s straight out the 1980s 2) There was a wedding on at the time of our stay so we couldn’t comfortably access the bar area until later in the evening as we felt like we were intruding. We recognise that the business needs to be viable, but perhaps explain this could occur on the overview of the property. 3)Staff didn’t appear overly welcoming, lacking smiles and a greeting. I’d pressed the reception bell 3 times before someone appeared. Perhaps under duress at the wedding that was occupying and more staff needed to accommodate it (I’m guessing that, not necessarily fact). 4) It’s just not worth the price asked. I wouldn’t stay not stay again.

The flood was fantastic would highly recommend the chicken and ribs and the Mumbai one pizza, just brilliant.

When I rang and explained what had gone wrong, the staff were like "yeah this has happened before, your problem not ours"...

Fab place, great value for money and friendly staff.

Friendly staff supporting with having a toddler, booked a budget double room and pleasantly surprised when we were given a double bed and a single bed. Excellent location/pitstop for further travel to the isle of wight. Room was clean and perfect for when travelling with little ones. On arrival was asked if we were eating during our stay, initially said no and didn't for the evening but having breakfast on request was easy, hot and cold breakfast served with good selection of drinks, happy family.

Estávamos de passagem e a hospedagem atendeu perfeitamente nossas necessidades. O hotel é apropriado para quem está de carro e não acredito que se chegue a ele de outra forma. O hotel é bonito, bem cuidado, limpo e oferece bar e restaurante que, se fosse mais amigável, solicito e menos protocolar, seria perfeito!

O hotel está numa zona rural, porém 12 km adiante há mercados e no caminho, alguns cafés. A estrada é muito bonita, vale a pena passear pela redondeza. O atendimento é protocolar e não muito caloroso, mas para o que necessitávamos está tudo ok.

Coffee machine in the room would be good. Bathroom looked a bit "tired". Artwork on the wall could be more up to date and cheerful?

The reception staff were friendly and efficient. I liked the whole vibe of The Angel, it was friendly and inviting and I got chatting to quite a few people which was lovely as I was travelling alone.

The bar staff could have been a little more helpful and cheerful!

It was convenient for my journey.

The room at the front of the hotel was very noisy with traffic on a main road. The restaurant were out of a lot of options from tye menu, so a very limited choice.

Located outside of Alton but if you have a car then there is ample parking for your stay. The hotel was great - featuring a bar and kitchen that solves the issue of trying to find food elsewhere. I was particularly impressed with the service of the staff that were really friendly and willing to make your stay a comfortable one. Just to also mention the flexibility of the kitchen to adapt to individual dietary requirements. Breakfast too had many different options. Would definitely stay here again.

We did a one night stop over b&b. Comfortable rooms, lovely pub attached, food was great in the resturant. Breakfast buffet was a good one. Would recommend. We had a lovely stop over.

Both supper and breakfast were excellent with a good range of options for both meals. We were made very welcome and the service was as excellent as the food.

I work from my van so secure parking is a must , great staff and good value evening meal , breakfast is great for every diet.

Good location, friendly staff, we arrived late during the England match, but the staff were still very helpful. Room was clean and had everything needed for an overnight stay. The buffet style breakfast in the morning was good.

Bed was very hard

Un endroit calme et bien équipé proche de Winchester, de Chichester, de Portsmouth, des South-Downs L'accueil est sympa. Le personnel est disponible pour toute demande. La chambre située dans la partie motel, est calme, bien équipée et avec un lit confortable. Le petit déjeuner (buffet) est copieux pour débuter la journée. Le bar et le restaurant sont de bonne qualité C'est un hôtel qui donne envie d'y retourner.

Nous y avons séjourné en semaine. Le week-end, il semble y avoir mariages qui rendent le lieu moins paisible.

Excellent facilities throughout. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The en-suite was well equipped and wash gel provided. There was plenty of tea and coffee in the room with a good kettle. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. A great hotel for travelling guests.

Het is niet perse dat mij iets niet beviel. De prijs was fantastisch en om eerlijk te zijn viel alles erg mee. Je kunt eten op locatie en deze is prima. De kamers zijn prima. Er is veel mogelijkheid om kleding op te hangen en de bedden liggen prima. De badkamer was keurig onderhouden, simpel maar schoon en nergens schimmel te bekennen. Ook de douche kop deed het goed (dat is niet bij alle “luxe” hotels te zeggen).

Room was clean and simple. Plenty of off road parking near to room. Food was simple but tasty. Room was located far enough away from the main road that I didn't hear any traffic noise.

Not sound proofed rooms. The noise of adjacent room bathroom extractor fan clearly audible through the night.

Overall, I found this fine for an overnight work trip. Price made it very good value, especially compared with alternatives - good parking, basic room and not large but was clean, quiet and comfortable, no fuss - and everything worked. So all basics met, at a low price, thank you. Will use again on this basis.

Tried the bar but found it soulless. Not a full service hotel (although wasn’t expecting that and it was fine for an overnight - just need to bear in mind location is remote to other eating options). Welcome I received was minimal.

Comfy, quiet room. Good bar and restaurant. Food was good value for money. Excellent parking. Nice to have a fan in the room as there is no aircon.

Bed was too soft

Friendly receptionist recommended a nearby pub for dinner as there was a wedding reception the night we stayed. Nice room with a comfy bed. Lovely view from the room.

Appalling shower. Fitted above the bath under the eaves, so even my 5ft4in wife couldn't stand up straight in it. The bathroom is plenty big enough to have the shower in a sensible position, but for whatever reason they put it there.

Felt very dated and worn but with modern touches. The chairs in the room and in public areas in the annex are all worn and need updating. The staff were okay but not professional and the butter at breakfast was out of date - it could be a beautiful hotel but just needs love and attention to detail. Mess and boxes left in public view and doors left open to private areas that don’t need to be seen.

Close to lots of iconic places to visit and within walking distance of them. It was in a quiet location. It was hot and there was a fan in the room

Breakfast was really nice Room was quiet, couldn’t hear traffic from road. Bar staff and Cleaners were really friendly and helpful.

We booked a lodge room, arrived at reception to a not happy welcome from receptionist. He then gave us a room above the main restaurant, despite booking says lodge room. Went back from car after realising and he seemed annoyed that he had to redo it. When we checked out at reception no friendly talk e.g. did we have a nice stay? etc.

Great value for price. Friendly and helpful waitress. Tasty breakfast and dinner.

El personal fue muy atento, cercano, facilitador, el emplazamiento perfecto, la habitación limpia, cómoda y con todo lo necesario.

Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were self service and the cooked food was good although more fruit and other options for non meat eaters would have been nice. Restaurant menu is similarly quite restricted but we really enjoyed the one evening meal we had at the hotel. Good thick towels, changed every day and the room is well equipped with full size ironing board, iron, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. We stayed in the annex to the hotel. Rooms on the first floor had lovely views over the fields at the back of the hotel.

Generally very dated decor. Rooms were not very clean. Spiders in both the bedroom and bathroom. Bedside lights etc had not been dusted and carpets and bathroom flooring could have done with a more thorough clean. Bed linen had marks on it. I would add though that it was clear from chatting to the lovely cleaning ladies that they are very understaffed and doing their best to keep up. The ground floor rooms in the hotel annex where my brother and other family members stayed were cramped and gloomy with no window in the bathroom and only a small one in the bedroom. Those facing the front overlooked the carpark with parking spaces right outside the door, like an American motel. The key cards seemed remarkably temperamental - I had to get mine reprogrammed three times during a four day stay. This was always explained as being because I had put my mobile phone too close to the card but after the first instance I was extra careful about this and yet the card still stopped working🙄

Varied sitting areas inside and outside. The staff were accomodating and friendly. We liked the specials menu. It is down to earth abd comfirtable, no excess frills.

The details for the wifi were not provided in the room, and i was already in bed by the time i discovered this! just a little card with the details / password on the table would be fine! Reached over to grab a phone to call reception to ask them, only to find there was no phone either lol! In the end I just tethered my phone in the end. However, this is just nitpicking from what was otherwise a PERFECT stay.

I suppose you get what you pay for. Advertised with breakfast, but not cooked. Not explained too well. Had the neighbour from he'll watching the football at 4am. Did phone reception, but no night staff to sort it out, so ended up banging on the door to resolve it, but didn't help when him and his mates were outside drinking beer at 6.15am...wtf. Would stay here again....not on your nelly.

Remarkable value for money and the staff were absolutely lovely. Mike, the chef, is definitely a feeder.. which was wonderful when walking the South Downs Way.

I requested a ground floor room had conformation the request had been accepted and was then put on the 1st floor. the room was incredibly hot, sticky and uncomfortable. there was no air conditioning and no portable fans were provided. there were cobwebs in the room and stains on the sheets

I stay here regularly when visiting family. The location is lovely amongst the Southdown countryside. Plentiful parking. I ate dinner this time and the food choices were varied and very tasty. Seating area in main hotel spacious and comfy

Staff were so lovely. Helpful. We stayed as it was a wedding and fhey were so caring. Let us check in before the wedding and couldnt do more . The rooms were a great size.

The room was red hot with no way of cooling down plus I was under the beer garden so noise all night. Bath panel hanging off cobwebs everywhere. Forgot are meal and had to ask were it’s is and was hour before getting it. When we got up in morning we were locked in hotel and the number on the door didn’t work.

Staff were outstanding. Friendly, welcoming, happy and helpful. The staff really do make this hotel. Very good value.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, I rang up to say I would be checking in very late and they couldn't have been more helpful. The same was true of the staff at breakfast they were really lovely, kind and helpful. Breakfast was also very nice! The views over the countryside are beautiful and peaceful. Even though the hotel is on a major road, the only sound was birdsong.

The en-suite bathroom was huge, but badly designed. You would need to be 7 foot tall to see in the demisted part of the mirror. But only someone under 5 ft tall could stand up straight in the shower.
