We were told breakfast would be available from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. but when we arrived to eat at 8.50 a.m. we were told ], rather curtly that breakfast was stopped at 9 a.m. on a Monday!!! Not happy about this having been given different information.
Friendly staff
They served food until 10 as we didn’t get there until later
It was very dated, not very clean and sticky tables in pub
The bed was comfy and the area was nice.
The room wasn’t very clean. Breakfast disapointing
Understaffed. Shower poor. Breakfast minimal. Tables not cleaned. Items slow to be refilled.
Very handy for the cross channel ferry. Staff very helpful. 24 hour reception so leaving at 0600 was no problem.
Very dated like something from the 1980s. Taps didn't work. Lampshades missing. Just very tired.
Location is very good.
The bedrooms need considerable upgrading and does not do anything for Green King's image.
Excellent value for the price. The attached pub/resturant was good. Didn't stay for breakfast. Would certainly use again and recommend to friends for short stays.
Staff were lovely asking if I needed help with cases as was up stairs,Was very helpful,Room was cleaned daily and was also quiet
It central to Portsmouth with easy access to motorway.Attached restaurant and sports bar with good choice of menu.
Nothing It suited your group booking.
Bathroom was spacious
The bath u had to stand well back to get wet when in the shower
Room was ok for overnight stay, as expected. Did not have the breakfast as we had early start
Very noisy bar & 'restaurant' area......obviously geared to family & children. 3 x Doormen by the entrance was a concern.
Location
Staff were rude, placed each drink on the bar directly in front of each pump. I had to walk up and down to get the round, collecting all drinks. They told us to go to residents bar at 11pm. We sat down and was told it wasn't a residents bar by another staff member.
The hotel decor in the rooms are dated but always clean and staff really friendly
Another valud for money
Proximity to the ferry port, food options on site, friendly staff
It was quiet and clean, plenty of space to park and not huge amounts of stairs to climb to the room and a really decent sized room
Nothing it was lovely
Good location with pub attached. Staff super friendly and helpful.
Old and dated interior and rooms.
Staff really friendly and helpful
Room very dated. Mould in bathroom. Probably most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. Seemed to be used by a lot of tradesmen, couple of whom thought it was ok to continously walk up and down the creaky passageway at the top of their voice between 2330 and 0030 with zero consideration for others
Room clean and fresh. Breakfast was sufficient and no complaints.
One minor irritation was that the Farmhouse attached pub/,Restaurant had all tables reserved early evening. Perhaps the Hotel reception could make customers aware so they could book a table.
when arriving in the room, there was long hairs left in the carpet around the dressing tables and mud up the walls, no photos were taken as we left almost straight away and found alternative accommodation for the night, also, granted it was slightly warm outside, the room was like a sweat box, me and my mate who was staying in the room nearly passed out as there was no air, wasn’t abel to open the window more then about 5cm either so no air flow which didn’t help.
Pas trop loin du ferry, parking spacieux et vraiment devant l'hôtel. Le pdj et une bonne literie.
Équipement des chambres très moyen et vieissant.
You Get a bath, and a shower
Building looks tired, could probably due with a refit in places
Size of room
Creaky bed and not told about hot breakfast when entering dining room. There was no flannels Coukd also do with a fresh coat of paint
Very good value for money, and clean.
Could do with a bit of updating.
Bed are perfect
Our room was large and comfortable.plenty of hit water and a nice quality breakfast.. The pub next by is very nice.
The hotel is great but it reads a modern touch.. Poor lighting system. No bedside lights.
Good value
Hotel needed a refurb the rooms were shabby but clean
Room was excellent - if a little bit ‘aged’ - very quiet and comfortable. The adjoining ‘Pub meals’ section of the business I expected to make the hotel section to generate some noise in the late evening but was pleasantly surprised as to the quietness in the room. Good location, out of town, and close to the coastal path. Very good Parking. Ideal for a quiet night if catching a cross Chanel ferry ( about a 10 min. drive)
The food offering in the evening was just typical ‘pub grub’ fast food chips with everything type offering. So I had to make a safari out to find a more pleasant menu.
Comfortable spacious room
Friendly staff great place clean
The food we had a curry and an all day breakfast wasnt happy 1 bit
Staff are friendly and polite and helpful and welcoming. Towels. Spacious room. Food for dinner at the adjacent pub was nice and came promptly and no issues getting served. No hassle getting room and checking out.
Place is really run down. Lots of flies and dirt in public areas. Rooms full of marks and holes and dirty carpets. Bathroom basic. Room too hot. On ground floor so was nervous opening windows as quite lively out there and exposed and have children. Not the cleanest in terms of cutlery, tables, floor. Lots of corridors to get to restaurant pub and old decor and furniture. Really old. Think The Shining. Pub was really lud. Went for a drink and couldnt hear well. People talking loud and swearing. Saturday eve in Portsmouth I suppose.
The staff were friendly and helpful and a pleasure to talk to
The room was very tired and in dire need of a refurbishment,it wasn't that clean either, room 108,the kettle was filthy so I had to go out and buy one 😭,the breakfast was cold and inedible
Nice staff
Tired and needing a refurb.
Staff friieindly and helpful good location for port ɓig car parking area.
Building a bit tired
The staff were very polite and helpful and the food both in the restaurant and at breakfast were tasty.
The rooms especially the bathroom are tired and in need of a makeover. Other parts of the premises need attention.
Het is wel aan een opknapbeurt toe
It was located close to the car dealership where I was picking up new car the next day. The property was quiet and clean.
I think the hotel had perhaps seen better days, however the bed and breakfast price was very reasonable.
Lovely welcome from Libbie at the desk.with a beaming smile. Clear instructions on where to go etc. Clean , comfortable room and a bath to boot
No much
Tv in room didn't work properly moved me to another room to see if tv was better tv was worse in the next room so they put me back in the original room joke .
Staff were efficient and friendly, rooms were spacious, breakfast was amazing and good value
Nothing, was a great stay
We always stay here when going to the Victorious Festival. Good as always. Staff are very friendly and polite and our room was ready when we arrived before time. Good size room with decent shower. Great location with it not being too far from festival and Portsmouth sea front
Good comfortable rooms, clean and reasonable price comfy pillows
Outside areas need attention new flags req on poles, breakfast quite expensive
It was a bargain. As would expect for the price- needs some tlc but suited us fine foe collapsing after a music festival. Beds super comfy
It was expected for the price
All good for price
Receptionist on arrival chloe was excellent fully explained everthing and very helpful
Running out of food in restaurant, different items on different days ,should not happen really .
Value for money
Bit tired
It was on
The location was considerably okay.
I prefer entirely buffer services
The room was a good size, same with the bathroom. Bed was comfortable. Spare pillows if needed, lots of surface space to put items on (2 x bedside tables, large sideboard, table and chairs. Everything was clean.
Whilst everything was clean - the room could have done with some TLC and modernisation. The carpet, whilst clean, was old and stained in places. The bathroom was really old - old fashioned tiles and unit layout. Shower curtain rathen than glass panel.
The room was clean.
Very old and dated. The toilet was very noisy when flushed. I wasn’t well so had to use the flush it was incredibly noisy. The reception staff were very friendly the restaurant staff were not. The food wasn’t nice. Very expensive room for what we stayed in.
Convenient. Free parking. Restaurant and soft play attached.
Dated rooms with no handwash or shower gel stocked - all dispensers were empty.
Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our stay. The room was clean, and the bathroom was especially unpleasant and very dirty. The whole room and bathroom would benefit from a thorough deep clean and descale, while the bathroom itself is in need of significant updating. The bathroom door was warped and appeared to be falling apart, which also gave the impression that the facilities were not being properly maintained. The staff in the dining room were very young and, unfortunately, did not appear particularly engaged or interested in being there. The cooked breakfast was also disappointing, with the sausages being barely cooked and, in my opinion, not edible. Overall, the experience was below the standard I would expect, and I would be reluctant to stay here again in the future.
Lovely pub and staff that couldn’t have been any friendlier. A little gem of a pub to explore the Cotswolds. Food and drink were excellent. 100% stay again
It was ok
Noisy rooms.
We had a good sized room, the bed was comfortable and we had a fan and hairdryer. The shower was OK and there was plenty of parking.
The food let this place down badly. The breakfast was awful, dreadful coffee, poor quality food and not much of it. The place was very tired feeling, incredibly beige and bland.
Reasonable price close to where we wanted to be, breakfast was ok
Bit dated, mini fridge would have been nice, bathroom grouting could do with a clean/reseal
Staff were friendly
It needs refreshing. Very tired feel to the place
Nice stay, clean and tidy, good food
Could do with some updating,
empleados agradables
limpieza y cosas rotas
The hotel was fine for our needs. Comfortable bed great shower, excellent breakfast, very good parking.
The bar restaurant attached to the hotel was a let down, unfriendly staff all round dirty, with no alternative, although the food was good. In our opinion the restaurant really lets the hotel down.
It was easy to find and good parking. It was good to have an option for a double and 2 single beds.
The tap was broken, 2 bulbs were missing. The double mattress was very uncomfortable, the latch on the window wasn’t secure and the room smelt of smoke.
La proximité du port de Portsmouth + le parking.
RAS
Staff were very friendly , hotel and room were clean. Easy to find and close to where we needed to be. Family room was spacious.
Room was super stuffy, even with windows open. Only one small fan which isn’t enough in a family room- hotel really needs aircon in the rooms. Beds are extremely hard and creak every time you move. Not enough towels to guest ratio in room , (but more available at reception when I asked) . Kitchen staff on breakfast refused to cook bacon separately to the eggs ( daughter is allergic and could go into anaphylactics if consumed) . Unfortunately we had a child in the room above us which was running up and down their room constantly, which was very loud to us below . Gather it must’ve worn itself out thankfully with all the activity as it went quiet around 10.30pm.
location and staff were brilliant only reason for the low score due to the extreme hot temperatures the room was uncomfortable to sleep in they need to install air conditioning
no air conditioning
Great rooms for great price
No bathroom light
Pub itself was fine as was the meal
The rooms were not up to standard. Stained carpets, loose toilet flush, toilet bowl stained taps minging, light bulbs missing Breakfast was set in function room and not clean. Food was cold, coffee cold. Nothing was replenished and even had to wait for clean cutlery. Staff were however polite
Comfortable bed, room was clean. Hotel reception staff were friendly and welcoming.
Pub adjoining the hotel had run out of a lot of menu choices. Breakfast in the hotel was very poor. Food poor quality, pastries were raw. No cutlery, no serviettes. Unable to have a hot drink as no cups and they were not replenished during our time at breakfast, despite several people asking. Staff disinterested in both the pub and breakfast room.
It was close to family, plenty of parking space, convenient. Reception staff were lovely.
It was tired, and the bed was uncomfortable. They had run out of shower soap.
The bed was comfortable. The room had plenty of space, and the floor was quiet. The reception staff were very nice. I had requested an east-facing room and they accommodated the request without a question.
There was no AC, just a very loud portable fan. Maybe this is normal in the UK, but there was a heat wave on. When we arrived we found the screenless windows open because the place needed air badly and we didn't have much choice but leaving them open or suffocating, but then in the morning I found a very big spider IN THE BED. The window casement was really dirty, no screens and certainly was not cleaned in a year - full of leaves and spiderwebs. The shower had one temperature: scalding. It could not be adjusted, so it was impossible to use it without getting burned. Of course we didn't know any of that until the morning when it was too late to do anything about it. We also had a poor experience in the restaurant on the first evening - they were clean out of half of the menu. Must have been a busy day because despite the empty restaurant there were dirty tables all around us. We also weren't thrilled to find out the restaurant was a budget chain restaurant probably best for families with lots of kids; but that explained the basic quality of the food. The breakfast was also a sad affair, with no coffee cups clean and an empty pot, and again out of half of the items listed in the offer. The management firm that bought this place up clearly has no care for keeping it in good character or well staffed - everyone seemed like they had 3 jobs to do and couldn't keep up.
Reception was only open at certain times. Closed at checkout time which was very inconvenient as there were no staff on site when we were unable to check-out on the kiosk. THis also posed as a safety risk ... what is there was an emergency.
No staff available.
The family room was very spacious specially with children. I really like the location as wasn’t far from Hayling island, gunwharf or Southsea .
I didn’t like that the room did not have any lock or chain for safety. And no lock on the bathroom door. Just for safety purposes and with children. Would have been more comfortable that they wouldn’t be able to just walk out the room or bathroom. The value for adding breakfast wasn’t great. We arrived right on 8am and the juices were nearly empty. The toast literally had just the ends. There wasn’t any urgency from staff to have this replenished and when it was, it was gone very fast as guests were made to wait. We’re told that the lounge is open until 11pm so we came back to chill and it was an empty lounge, no bar facilities or drinks.
Staff very very pleasant in the 4years of coming here never had a problem here a few times through the year
Nothing
Near Portsmouth
A bit run down, could do with a freshen up, rooms looking tired, but overall the stay was good
Grande chambre confortable et au calme où nous avons passé une dernière nuit en Angleterre avant de prendre le ferry. Grand parking dans l'hotel.
La douche ne fonctionnait pas bien, l'eau était très brulante quelque soit le régalge du robinet.
Helpful staff. Comfortable room. Quiet. Nice location.
Some areas could do with redecorating, a lick of paint perhaps.
Lovely comfortable generous-sized family room. Most staff really helpful and positive. Flexible and understanding with issues to do with bike storage and breakfast timing. Restaurant next door was good value and breakfast was generous.
It was generally great. If you are looking for the latest decor or a more personalised feel you might be disappointed, but for me it was a lovely stay. Pub-chain food was convenient but might not be what you are looking for.
Good location. Plenty of parking. Nice pub attached
Rooms were very hot
Location close to town centre, just a short drive away. Walking distance to shore walk. Free parking. Close to other shopping possibilities such as McDonald's, b&m etc. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beds where clean and comfortable.
Cobwebs in the room. Hand-wash soap was empty. Limescale in the bathroom and just worn appearance of the room in general. Poor location of sockets (take long charger leads/cables). Cheap fan but did the job. For the quality and appearance i would have wanted to have the breakfast included in the price.
Very convenient location for our needs. The rooms need are badly in need of modernisation but it didn't detract from our stay. The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast had plenty of choices. A good place if you want a low budget short stay B&B.
Upon arrival I was greeted by Joe, what a lovely young man he is. He was friendly and helpful without being false. The room was lovely, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spotlessly clean. It was nice to have the option of using either the bath or the shower. Going back to Joe, he was more than a member of staff during my stay. This young man was a hero, he gently and humanely disposed of the offending, uninvited guest in the hallway (huge spider).
This isn't a complaint just a personal preference. The position of my room was by the communal smoking area which led me to closing the windows as the smell drifted in, fortunately it wasn't an overly hot day.
Good location
Wallpaper coming off wall, sink taps broken and not working, dirty bathroom, breakfast cold no options anymore.
Beds comfy, lots of hot water.
Restaurant staff were terrible, very un helpful!. The hotel its self is dated. Has a stale smell and needs a serious amount of money spending on it. For one or 2 nights its ok but I couldn't stay there any longer. It was convenient as we were at a wedding close by. If I come back to Portsmouth I would not stay here.
We had an early ferry to France and by bookin this room saved a very early start from home. So location was great just a 10 min drive to ferry port
Room was a bit tired and could do with updating
The room, carpet, and bathroom are a bit dated and could do with some updating. The breakfast selection is also quite limited
The room was large and very comfortable.
The breakfast was poor and the breakfast staff very unhelpful.
Clean Bed
Dated Bedroom Breakfast ..!! Where to begin.!!!!staff in Breakfast area were in short supply..almost non existent.. girl not at all helpful..no butter for toast..Iwas told.. (none left) I asked if she was kidding me..she replied NO. None left..I repeated my request for butter..eventually girl said If u will give me a minute..she was very annoyed with my Husband and I at this stage ..we then asked to order. cooked breakfast...too late was reply.!! We,d got to Breakfast area at 8,50..so because of argument and the time wasted..it was after 9,am. Hubby asked for something hot cooked.we actually both got a small portion of scrambled eggs(plus some shell.) Beans and 1 sausage each..by this time girl had found us a little butter..can I say definitely grudges.. However check in stall were very helpful..no complaints there..I doubt if we will return...Sorry..Mr..and Mrs Tom Doherty.
staff , location
the room could do with a update especially bathroom.
The only thing I liked about my stay was seeing my friend get married at the hotel.
The rooms are very outdated, there was stains on the carpet, no air con within the rooms, and stains and mould within the bathroom, also the breakfast was shocking all in all the stay was very overpriced and I will not be staying here again.
The room was lovely. The staff who welcomed us on arrival were great.
Breakfast. It was an absolute shambles. When we arrived, the first thing I did was try to make a cup of tea. The water was cold. When I asked the young woman working there where I could get hot water, she had a bit of attitude while pointing to the urn I had already got cold water out of. She did eventually bring hot water. As the plates were also cold, by the time we'd finished the food was cold.
Chambre très spacieuse et le lit, très confortables et une grande salle d’eau
Somewhat dated, but good value accomodation. Avoid the "restaurant" it's attrocious
The restaurant is very poor quality, highly processed, tasteless and badly cookedcand prepared food.
We had one night here before an early international ferry. The staff were excellent, parking and location is great.
The rooms are outdated but I think this is fairly reflective in the price. I gave a lower rating as we stayed on a 30+ degree summer day and there was one small desk fan for a family of four. Unfortunately we didn't sleep much as the room was intolerably hot. I'm sure the rooms would be fine in winter.
Great place to stay overnight before getting the Portsmouth to Caen ferry in the morning. Clean & comfortable. Good value dinner at the Hungry Horse next door, with pleasant & friendly staff.
No problems
It had good facilities and the staff were friendly. The linens and towels provided were clean
The decoration was in a poor state. Peeling wallpaper and a cracked tap.
Bit old fashioned.
Beds comfy,spacious room,staff lovely.
Room nice and spacious. Bed was comfortable. Good location. Breakfast good selection although could have been hotter. Staff very friendly and helpful. Free parking.Value for money
No toilet brush. Hair dryer didn't look safe, sticky tape around it which had melted. Breakfast substantial but not very hot. No safety bar to help get in and out of bath. Need to have a safety mat in the bathroom not have to go to reception to collect it.
Accomodation was good, but no airconditioning and no mini fridge in room. Bathroom was somewhat dated an tired
The food in the "restaurant" is attrocious, low quality, unhealthy highly processed rubbish, even bad for pub food.
Great parking. Room very comfortable a little old fashioned but nice. Great to be near hungry horse for evening meal Friendly reception staff
THE BREAKFAST. Staff rude and disinterested. Waited ages and ages to order food. Poor choice of cereal and juice. No butter in the building! No plates for toast no cutlery having to keep asking. When cooked breakfast eventually came it was cold uncooked sausage and hash browns. No coffee available. In fact I’d like my money back what I paid for the dreadful food
Location
Whole building is old and shabby. Breakfast was disappointing, no poached egg, no tomatoes and no soya milk. Staff didn't really seem to care when questioned at breakfast.

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
5.5/10Multiple reviews note tired, shabby or dated rooms, ripped sheets, dusty areas and a toilet that needed deep cleaning; some public areas (restaurant tables) reported sticky/unclean surfaces.
Service
8.5/10Staff repeatedly described as friendly, helpful and attentive (reception, housekeeping, bar/restaurant staff); isolated issue was refusal of service at the neighbouring pub rather than hotel staff.
Location
9/10Very frequently praised — excellent proximity to port/dock/sea and convenient for getting around; short walks to coastal paths and local amenities.
Room Quality
6.5/10Room size and beds often positive but many comments about rooms being tired, dated, hot during a heatwave and with occasional broken fittings (light switches, ripped furniture).
Amenities
7/10Good practical extras like free parking and an on-site soft play noted, but issues reported with coffee machines, limited toiletries (no shower gel), occasional broken fans and lack of some fittings (hand rail/hand washer).
Value for Money
8/10Many guests explicitly praised the hotel as good value or great value for money, though a few felt price did not fully match room condition.
Food and Beverage
6.8/10Restaurant dinners received generally positive comments, but breakfast was described as very basic, sometimes undercooked or only moderately warm; food quality was described as a bit hit-and-miss.
Overall Experience
7.9/10Mixed but generally positive overall: strong location, helpful staff and good value balance out cleanliness and room-condition issues for most guests; some had notably poor individual experiences.
