Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Location great (walk to town), excellent breakfast and spacious well-appointed room. Greeted by an actual person instead of contactless check-in; appreciated that. Good parking on site, also appreciated.
Only drawback: bed mattress not so comfortable, it felt like sleeping on a box spring.
Clean and comfy friendly staff, short walk to City Centre
Nothing
Very friendly staff in reception and the restaurant. Surprisingly little noise from the road, even with the window open at night. Great breakfast.
Exterior needs a lick of paint.
Great location and I requested a bath and got a bath.
Brief sadness when receptionist told me the room I had reserved ages ago with bath tub - only had shower. But that changed when we got to room and saw it had both!
Staff friendly, nice room.
Air con unit noise next to room. Hot water was way too hot and couldn't adjust the temperature.
Wundervolle Lage und sehr freundliche Gastgeber! Gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis
Zimmer war sehr klein, aber mit Fenster mit Meerblick und Meereseauschen!
Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious, comfortable, clean and contained everything that we required. Car parking is in front of the hotel and there were plenty of spaces. You could easily walk into the centre of Norwich; it takes about 6 minutes.
There wasn't very much. We were disappointed with the restaurant menu as most items contained garlic which we have an intolerance to. However the chef was very accommodating and we had a meal that was garlic free.
Room nice a little dark ( more lighting be good) Breakfast great Dinner was lovely too Nice bar with friendly staff Fan in room brilliant
Room quite dark better lighting would be good
Big apartment, large bedrooms, very peaceful for sleeping! Pub and restaurant on site!
Nothing everything was great
Very nice hotel Good position in Norwich Very very nice staff - they were great
Location. Large bed. Excellent breakfast.
Unexpectedly we were in an annexe across the road from the main hotel. Room bore little resemblance to photos accessed in the booking.vom website. The cooker in our apartment was “condemned”, the door lock was loose, and the outside furniture was overrun with fallen leaves. Not well looked after. Bathroom was bath only with hand shower - not ideal. No ventilation at all in bathroom. Only pleased I was not there in warmer weather. Overall, not great value for a Sunday night in Norwich.
Great location and ideal for a stay with the dog. Lovely breakfast and staff.
Had difficulty parking when we arrived as there seemed to be a function on in the bar, but more spaces later on.
It was convenient for our stay while visiting our daughter for the evening. Although we booked a cosy room it was bigger than expected. Unfortunately the cleanliness of the bathroom let our room down. The toilet needed a good clean and bleach, had obviously only had a cursory clean as had the while bathroom, and as for the toilet brush, that was disgustingly dirty! The very old toilet roll holder was broken and lying on the floor and broken hook on back of bathroom door missing and not replaced. The bed was 2 single beds joined together and for us was very uncomfortable. There were some nice touches with the variety of teas etc but in general a tired room needing a bigger television and a new carpet as very worn and marked.
Convenient location Comfortable en-suite room
Breakfast room was very noisy because Kitchen fans or machines were really loud & background Muzak didn’t help No whole meal toast on offer - otherwise good breakfast
Breakfast was 10/10, staff friendly, location and parking very good, like the 11am checkout no rush
Paintwork needs updating, few cobwebs found, grouting needs renewing and mould in shower
Nicely decorated rooms, tasty breakfast, a wonderful location for exploring Norwich, and the staff were really friendly.
The hotel is advertised as having free, private parking on Booking.com, but when we arrived we found the car park completely full because of a wedding that was being hosted there. It's on a busy road, we don't know the area, and we'd just travelled 6 hours to get there, so we didn't really want to have to go searching for street parking when one of the big reasons I'd booked the hotel was because it seemed to have easy parking facilities. The manager kindly moved her car so we could have her space, but it would have been better to know in advance that there would be limited availability for parking and that guests don't have guaranteed spaces. Our room was also comfortably decorated but poorly ventilated - the bathroom didn't have any windows or a working vent or fan, which meant our room stayed humid and stuffy throughout our stay.
Convenient location ,parking ,bar and facilities on site.
The breakfast was inadequate as they ran out of food early and did not offer to replenish stock. When I complained and asked to be reimbursed was told that not possible and it was my fault as we had gone through booking com. When I said hotel need not meet expectations . I was told that I hadn’t done my research properly and she would never use booking .com .There was no attempt to rectify any problems .Fixture and fittings are of poor quality .The person said that they deliberately had unattached plugs as they were constantly stolen . Wondered what sort of place I was in .There was a health and safety issue as I trapped my fingers as inappropriate door handle was badly fitted .The room was uncomfortable and needed a refresh and deep clean . Every surface was cluttered with retro things that did not work and with uncomplimentary overpriced goods .On complaint staff did not seem interested .The general manager has not answered e mail Or responded to any photos sent .
Breakfast was excellent, we also had Sunday lunch which was excellent
No bed side shelf a folding one would do
Clean and comfortable
Nothing
Staff were excellent - especially in the evening bar/dining area (served by Adrian and Macy).
Gorgeous rooms with lovely little touches. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the food in the restaurant was great
The room was super hot - couldn’t be helped during the heatwave and a fan was provided but wasn’t very powerful
Lovely property, cute room, nicely decorated
The room was stiflingly hot, super noisy with people outside, and the pillows were uncomfortable
Warm welcome. Larger than average room. Plenty of guest areas
Very slow breakfast service on our first morning
Had a great stay, really friendly team, perfectly cooked steak for dinner, comfortable bed and a hearty breakfast. What more could I ask for;)
Lovely area surrounding the hotel, the room was gorgeous and very good value
It was in a very good location and easy access to Norwich centre. The staff were great and particularly helpful especially Marina.
Some minor blemishes to the room that if were dealt with, it would have been it a perfect stay.
All the staff at the hotel were helpful, kind and efficient. I was greeted warmly and looked after my the bar staff for both my evening meal and breakfast. The hotel has a lovely bright airy conservatory which made my breakfast very pleasant looking out over the grounds. The breakfast table did n't have a lot of pastries or fruit left when I arrived at 9am but I did manage to get everything I needed (although I did feel bad taking the last slice of bread and yogurt but I was hoping they would come and refill) the fruit juice and coffee were both very fresh and all staff excellent.
The room had some areas which were in need of a refresh but nothing I would describe as dirty, the bathroom just needed a paint and like any old bath the enamel was chipped along with the sink that had some cracks in (or perhaps that was the rustic look they were after !) there was some lovely touches of fresh water in the room with some baked nibbles and a useful iron and ironing board,
The staff and everything was just wonderful. Really made our stay. Being dog friendly and accommodating was fantastic.
I had a very pleasant Cappuccino! Very friendly service and great atmosphere with upbeat music playing.
Location was good and the room was very nice.
Breakfast was a catastrophe! The service lacked organisation leading to us waiting an hour before anybody realised our order had been lost. The hotel was expensive for one night and we expected a much better service than this. All we received was an apology and upon check out we were not asked how our stay had been.
perfect location in the city, easy parking, great staff, really comfortable bed, quiet room at back of house...
i had to clean the bath before using it! The toiletries were empty in the bath. There were no options for tea (English Breakfast only). No espresso cups, only huge mugs.
Great location, very comfortable room with lots of well appointed space. Most of the staff were attentive and responsive. Food and drink was good. We'll be back soon.
All fine
Walked into the room to find 2 dog beds for our boys, a doggies box with some quality sweets and chews, and 2 bowls, there was a mini Smeg fridge and a good tea/ Coffee area. The staff were amazing so friendly and Kind too.
No Fan or Air Con, and it has been very hot
This property is in a prime location on the City side of Norwich’s “Golden Trisngle”. I have visited The Georgian Townhouse on numerous occasions over the years to stay, have a meal or just drinks with friends and have always been impressed with the quality of the property and the warm, friendly and professional attitude of the people who work there. Today I was served by Maisie who was all of the above and great conversation. This consistent quality is the reason that myself and my family have regularly returned and will continue to do so.
My 2 besidesmaids and I stayed in the Colnoels apartment the night before my wedding. The apartment was comfortable and clean. My husband and I left getting a room for ourselves after the wedding to the last minute. Staff were super helpful with getting us a room in the main part of the hotel. They stored our bags until we returned after the wedding and the room was lovely. We had breakfast the next morning which was perfect and the environment was great.
This was our first visit to the Georgian Townhouse and we were not disappointed. Our waiter Mark was very attentive and friendly and there was lovely vibe in the outdoor/conservatory area. The roast dinner was delicious (great Yorkshires) and the desserts were good value. The whole restaurant and outside dining area was spacious and we were particularly impressed with the secure play area - we will be returning with our grandchildren very soon!!
As always the breakfast was good, and the restaurant staff okay.
The room was stuffy, the fan did little move air, and the window was chained so it would open less than 4"
Staff were great, food was good (we had dinner), beds were very comfortable, garden was great
Hadn't appreciated the hotel was surrounded by busy roads. Our room overlooked the car park at the front and had full sun in the afternoon and was unbearably hot. I appreciate you can't control the weather, but the fan supplied was inadequate. The heat coupled with the noise of the road, and the light from the carpark which is brightly lit all through the night meant that we had a sleepless night. The window in the bathroom could not be opened to allow more air in (and in any case that would have disturbed the many spiders web on the bathroom window. A bit of extra cleaning is required here!)
The Robert’s radio in my room. Good quality towels. The quality of food for breakfast and dinner was fine.
Location is by a roundabout on busy ring roads on edge of the city and not easy for walking into the centre. Had a number of customer service issues which I’ve raised with management which they say they are addressing. A Cosy Double room was very cramped with minimal storage space- wouldn’t recommend for a couple. Bedding was suitable for the winter, not a heatwave.
food and staff excellent
bed uncomfortable. room dark and toilet not clean
It was really quaint
Nothing
The building itself and the rooms are stunning. We had a large bathroom with a separate bath and shower. The bed was incredibly comfortable and it's well located in Norwich.
Unfortunately, this is no longer the place it used to be. We booked months in advance to stay here on our wedding night as our reception was a short walk away in the city centre. Firstly, a few days before check in, but after the free cancellation window expired, I was informed early check in was at a cost of £25 and only allowed check in from 13:00 instead of the normal 15:00. I asked about waiving this given it was our wedding night and we also had a booking for breakfast for a large number of people the following morning. I was told this "would be fine". On arrival I was told the opposite by the "deputy manager" and have been charged £25 from a £50 holding fee despite asking to waive it beforehand given our wedding was at 15:00. Secondly, breakfast service was horrifically slow. The food itself was also not of the quality I would have expected for the price. They also somehow ran out of baked beans and took almost 20 minutes to bring toast after the main food arrived. Thirdly, there was no parking at all available on arrival. I was told it was "first come, first serve" which isn't something I've ever come across at a hotel before. Meaning, people staying had no preference over those just visiting for food or drinks. This meant I had to park elsewhere. Luckily family were staying at another hotel nearby and had allocated parking. Finally, regardless of the above, the service itself felt lazy and almost as if the staff didn't even want to be there. At no point did anyone even offer a simple "congratulations" on our marriage. It's therefore probably no surprise that zero effort was made to provide even a small gesture in our room to mark the occasion.
Very friendly staff, nice bar and good service
A walk-in shower
Really comfy bed and nice bathroom with a powerful shower.
Room felt tired and unclean - cobwebs in the bathroom and grime around the bathtub.
Location
My room was very hot and the fan was not vey effect. ( I appreciate it was unusually hot but the fan didn’t seem to work
The food we had was great, both breakfast options and Sunday lunch. The location was excellent and public areas are very pleasant.
The room we were allocated was above the courtyard dining area, owing to the weather it was uncomfortable with the window closed so we tried to keep it open as much as possible. This obviously allowed the noise of other guests to carry into the room but during the early evening that wasn't a major problem. The trouble started after closing time: firstly staff were noisy clearing tables and collecting glasses, etc. There appeared to be a bottle bank under our room and then at 12:45am they started cleaning, dragging a Henry hoover over paving slabs is not something you want to hear at that time of the morning! The other major problem with this room was the furniture, it contained a desk which provided the only drawers and a chair which both looked like they had been reclaimed from a skip; the drawers were full of dust and the bottoms were loose, the back of the chair was hanging off. In the morning we complained and the staff were most apologetic and upgraded us to an apartment across the road which was a massive improvement with an enormous bed and much better furniture, the only downside; we had to cross the road for breakfast.
Great location, warm welcome and comfortable room with everything you could want. Asked for a quiet room as a wedding was taking place and we had a very peaceful 2 nights. Great bar and huge outdoor space. Free parking was a bonus but we were lucky to get a space on Friday afternoon as it is a popular spot. Very short walk into town and Norwich is a fantastic city for exploring and eating!
Felt like home from home. Staff were charming
The burger (naked by request) was poor
The location
Despite contacting the property about parking options they failed to explain the parking was first come first serve base and having booking didn’t equate to a guaranteed parking place. Bathroom also had broken tiles Well also asked about late checkout and message was ignored. I didn’t feel the service was particularly great
check in and response to complaints.
sad that we had to ask twice about a lost paid for food order. the room service was not very good as the maid did not understand our request and we had to ask reception to have bins in our room emptied after a three day wait.
Very friendly staff, great location for wandering into the centre - the bus from thecstations stops right outside too. There was a lovely breakfast and the food in thecrestaurant was good. Spacious apartment with a kitchen area and also an outdoor sitting area.
The only downside was the room was very hot. I know it was unseasonably warm but there was only 1 small window out of a few, that would open and it was actually fresher outside than it was inside. It wasn't the hottest temps so it must have been unbearable when it was the heatwave. There was a fan.
Location. Aesthetics, decoration. Room was comfortable and fan being on cooling the room was a nice touch. Well stocked mini bar and treats. Comfy bed. Liked breakfast menu.lovely garden
Arriving at reception 10 minutes early told to return at the correct time of 3 pm- felt it was a little abrupt but actual check in was good. Shower was disappointing.
Avoid. Used the app as advertised drinks never delivered after 20 mins. Had to go in to be greated by a miserable bar member who said she was the only one on! But no one else in the pub!
The pub is nice
The room was sweltering hot, hotter than any other part of the hotel or pub, with only an ineffective desk fan provided, and the staff were not particularly apologetic about this. Parking is also very hit or miss. Expensive, too, for what it is.
Beautiful property in the shadows of the cathedral . Excellent base for exploring the city . Room was so nice , with some very quirky features. Amazing facilities, menu and staff
Location was good
The apartment was dated, perhaps this was the style they were going for BAthroom looked more like a prison cell bathroom needs a shower screen!
The hotel is in a lovely building. The staff were friendly and checking in was quick. We booked a cozy double (room 2) which was quite spacious I thought! The toiletries were lovely but no cotton pads/ buds/ shower cap etc. Also no slippers/ gowns. We had breakfast included which was average to good. My muffin was stale and we had to wait a short time as they had run out of eggs! The hot food we had was nice but if you were paying the £12.50 for the breakfast table (pastries/cereal/limited fruit) I didn't feel that was value for money. All in all a comfortable stay for 1 night. Parking was easy.
See above
Clean and very friendly staff
No air con or a fan in the room
Great location. Food and service in the restaurant during late lunch was excellent. The room was perfect! Very comfortable bed! Loved the small touches like fresh milk to make tea and mini shortbread biscuits. Lovely personal touch! Having early check in. Worth the extra ££’s.
When the parking was full due to a wedding and football. Maybe a suggestion is if hotel is holding an event of any kind to inform other guests of this before there stay. Would be nice to be able to pay to reserve for parking or even be able to use the opposite parking at the townhouse apartments. Parking is very limited. It can potentially put a damper on stay at the hotel!
Great location, lovely rooms.
We went for a drink in bar well before last orders. Barman not keen to serve what was cleaned down, appreciate it was latish but still would expect to be able to choose a drink !
The location was very good, it's a beautiful building and the rooms are very nice and well equipped. Very quiet at night. Food in the restaurant was very nice.
There were three things i would improve 1. When I was checked in I was given a room that was already occupied, something I found out when I entered the room to see someone's clothes on the bed and suitcase in the corner, luckily the person wasn't in the room at the time or it could have been much worse. I was upgraded to a new room but it was a worrying mistake. 2. The second room I was put into was lovely but didnt have a lock on the inside of the door. After I'd just been able to access someone else's room by mistake, it made me uncomfortable that I couldn't lock the door as a single woman travelling alone. A simple lock or latch would improve security. 3. The pub was nice but when I went in to get some food in the evening there were dirty plates and glasses all over 4 of the large tables. It was a hot day and they had clearly been there a while, the staff were walking past and no one cleared them. They were still sitting there when I went back to the room after my meal, it wasnt a great impression.
Really great staff and good location. Room was fine.
The menu read wonderful but the food was not really very good. Expensive and disappointing.
Location and the making of a great place
Service is very slow and the restaurant is average at best
My daughter and son in law had their wedding reception here on 27th June. Myself and two daughters stayed on Friday evening and also Saturday. The staff were all amazing especially Callum in spite of the very hot weather he done all he could for us when asked and was smiling and friendly all the way through to midnight. Food was served hot and was very tasty, thank you for making this special day wonderful Paula
Amazing room, such a great vibe, nice bar, great garden area
Spacious, quiet on a night, decent bathroom
Too warm, no way to stay cool. Basic fan not good enough.
Decent accommodation, helpful friendly staff, good vibes
Apartment was comfy and well-equipped but decor a tad tired
Free parking.
The place overall is in need of some TLC. We were in three rooms on the property total. The third being the best of three. The first was an apartment and the carpets were dirty, soiled and worn. We refused to stay there and moved to the main property. We stayed in room #10 - tiny and equally dirty and HOT. There was no airflow - couldn’t even open the windows properly. Not to mention the broken mattress spring that tore through the mattress and the sheet to poke me in the leg. Overall the walls throughout the property were dirty and there were air fresheners in the rooms and hallways to cover up the stale dirty smells. The third room #19 was by far an improvement. Fortunately there was no carpet which helped however there was mold in the bathroom along the outside of the tub which was malodorous. The shade cold also be replaced as it did not open fully and was also worn and dirty. UPDATE: The manager of the hotel graciously gave us a refund in the amount of 117 GBP/$156 for our troubles. Thank you. I hope you're still able to make the changes to up the quality of guests stays.
The access from Unthank Road is good. The hotel, bar & rooms are attractive and comfortable. Good location for Norwich city.
Lack of a fan during a heatwave. Noisy location next to a traffic island.
Very quick and easy check in and again check out. Just a very relaxed comfortable stay .
Nice room and bar/ restaurant/ breakfast area Short walk into city
Location was great, really nicely decorated room, loved the touches to the room, welcoming and safe
There was an event going on in the evening which was super loud - luckily the room was pretty sound proofed but it was so hot we wanted to open the window but it was then too loud, no aircon but a fan that really did nothing. We wouldn’t stay there again in the summer for this reason but would in the winter
The apartments are spacious and comfortable. Had an excellent meal in the Georgian Townhouse restaurant.
The staff were really helpful and my room was lovely with its own little roof terrace.
N/a
It was a very hot day, fans were left for us which was much appreciated
Great location. Very “bougie” according to my teenager! Room 12 was really large, great facilities (welcome treat, bottle of water, Smeg mini fridge, coffee maker, etc). Comfy beds. lovely bathroom. Fab breakfast too!
The weather was scorchio and the room was sweltering, despite the windows being open. There was a small fan that didn’t do much unfortunately. A more powerful fan or a couple of them might have been better, but I get you can’t help the weather, so not really a complaint!
Attended my grandaughter and her new husband's reception 27th June. Food and service excellent. Anything wanted staff helped out with no problem, as a very hot day.
Comfortable room and great food and bar just next door
A little bit expensive for what you get compared to other places in Norwich
Really lovely place at the back to sit, have a drink and a meal. Loads of places to sit, under the trees and a lovely atmosphere
Room 5 was so hot, am sure all the rooms in that part of the hotel would be the same. Really nicely decorated and lovely antiques but the heat in the room was unbearable. There was a fan in the room but all that did was move the warm air around. I do accept it's an old building but you really do need portable air conditioning units in these rooms!
Very clean and nice welcome.
No air conditioning.
The tea and coffee facilities, iron was a nice touch and the bottle of water. Good location to walk to the city centre.
The room was a bit tired and in need of decorating. Pillows not good quality, I asked the cleaner to get me a better one and she did.
did not eat breakfast as was not included in the price
the food in the bar the on the evening was very average not great advert used to be so much better not great value very poor check in could not find a key for 20 mins and no printer for my invoice on the way out
Lauren was brilliant upgrading us to the colonel’s retreat where our small dog was welcome and my husband had his own room and tv for World Cup viewing through the night! Lovely clean apartment with great facilities (just watch other taps when someone in the shower!).
The location is great - about 15mins walk into the city centre (market area). Staff were so friendly on our arrival and we were able to park up before check-in so we could visit the town. We were able to park (for free) right outside which was great. The room was ideal, a great size and so comfortable with the sofa. The small kitchen was really useful so we used this for breakfast and a few dinners (microwave dinners from M&S!). The room was so quiet – we didn't hear other guests or noise from outside. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. It was great to have a small hallway with a place to hang our coats. We stayed for 4 nights so it was good to be able to unpack fully and have space to put our belongings. Appreciated a good hairdryer (not one attached to a wall) and a fan. We really enjoyed Norwich – we loved the independent shops and cafes as well as the cathedral and castle. A really vibrant place and with great bookstores, antique shops and charity shops for a rummage...the Royal Arcade is also really nice for shopping and a coffee. We also went to the Georgian Townhouse pub which was lovely, food was very good and we had some drinks in the beer garden on a sunny day.
Nothing, all was great!
Room
room
we stayed for 1 night as we saw an event at earlham park and we cant give too many faults on how nice this place is room was lovely ,quite warm and we had a fan but it wasnt quiet so would have been nice to have a window we could open bed was lovely ,bathroom very nice but toilet seat wouldnt stay up so so had to hold it while trying to pee :) water was so hot when even first turn of taps ,shower was lovely but it maybe needs a cleaning of the shower head as the spray was going everywhere but overall its a lovely place with a pub next door
as above
Bathroom very good for needs, but my bed was lacking a rail or headboard which made it difficult to get in or out
We came with friends it was our 5th visit and our friends 1st they thought the hotel was amazing as do we. The staff are amazing nothing is too much trouble.
The managers were very good and the food was good.
We had a couple of issues with the room we were given, but after a polite chat with the duty manger, it was sorted immediately with no fuss, we were given another room to stay in. The restaurant staff need a little more training, especially the younger ones, a simple question about what could be ordered from the bed and breakfast menu was not able to be answered by the younger staff member, but luckily the duty shift manager heard the question and corrected it with the right answer.
The room was very cosy and clean. The staff at the hotel were all really helpful and polite. I had dinner and breakfast and the food was excellent both times.
Everything was great.
Stayed in the Colonel's Retreat, a 2 bed apartment just over the road from the main hotel. Small kitchenette with coffee machine and a few pods. Beds enormous and very comfortable. Upstairs lounge with big TV (TV in the bedrooms too) and desk space plus little balcony. One beautifully-decorated bathroom with over-bath shower (not massively hot but was fine). Better value for money than getting 2 separate bedrooms. Shot walk over the flyover into the city centre, with lots of restaurants and cafes within reach. Didn't have breakfast at the hotel so can't comment on quality.
All fine.
Breakfast exceptional, dinner very good but not enough choice, room very well equipped but no instructions for gadgets, superb bed, but bathroom lacked shelf for own toiletries. No printed menu etc, limited coffee facility, no tourist information, mini bar well stocked but not necessary - no bottle opener. Good, large general bar area. Free parking. Large garden.
POD coffee machine unsuitable, with no sachet alternative. Other critiques as above.
Lovely building with so much space inside and outside in the garden.
Not quite enough car parking spaces.
Requested a bath for 50th birthday. Had a beautiful room with free standing bath, lovely and clean, super facilities.
Lovely room (room 15), very well decorated and maintained, nice restaurant, great location.
Nothing
