Provider-sourced guest reviews.
We were given a room upgrade and stayed in the garden room which was very comfortable. Breakfast was rather slow but it was very busy. Plenty of choice. Staff were very nice.
Staff are excellent, food is good value for money.
Location was perfect for us - directly onto A11 but no traffic noise as rooms and building set. Ack off side road. Very friendly and helpful staff. The dinner was excellent
Very soft mattress was uncomfortable plus extremely hard pillows - 6 pillows provided and only one semi soft. Perhaps a mix of pillows would help
The staff, without exception, were very helpful. The food is beautifully fresh and very tasty.
The mattress was too soft.
Excellent brunch and dinner on four occasions in total. Superb personal service.
The staff are very good and helpful
I could not turn my a/c down and there was no quilt to use - I arrived back very late evening so could ask no one for a quilt
A really straightfoward experience, the staff were attentive and the rooms met our expectations. The restaurant in particular suprised us with how good it was and it was a relaxing way to spend the evening.
Parking was tight - we managed, but arriving a little later in the day meant there were only a 2 spaces left and they were not simple. Not the end of the world but I think I'd plan to be there a little earlier next time around.
Decor and staff were lovely and beds comfy
No milk or fridge in room and limited parking but thankfully got space under tree dropping constant acorns on car yikes
Absolutely everything- service, good food and excellent staff. Very well maintained . Ian was very accommodating and hard working- he did all to please. And a Special shoutout to Helen at receptionist. Warm, funny and friendly- her efforts were much appreciated ❤️
Nothing wrong with- all excellent
All round lovely hotel and staff.
Great location, clean, very helpful staff. Fantastic cooked breakfast. The garden house was an unexpected upgrade. Fantastic
Nothing
We had an evening meal, the food was really good great menu, the staff are very helpful and friendly. Single rooms are small but adequate and lovely and clean, comfortable bed.
Nothing to mention
Good location with parking Easy access to Norwich The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious
Lovely hotel and staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location with parking for guests. The room was spacious and very clean. The bed was comfortable.
I found the pillows a little hard, but my wife said they were fine for her.
Nice hotel in a quiet location, a 15-20 min walk into city centre but there are lots of buses which run along main road. Great breakfast in a nice restaurant area. We stayed in a room which overlooked the back of the hotel. It was small but adequate and bed was comfortable. Paintwork in corridor and room was a bit rough and it had creaky floorboards. The non slip part of the bath used for shower was completely worn away so it was very slippery. Unfortunately, I didn't sleep well as the soundproofing is not very good. Loud talking in room opposite until 1 am, the bedroom doors make a loud noise when closing and the plumbing from adjoining room was noisy.
Lovely place and nice bar
Two twin beds pushed together to make a double was very uncomfortable
Bar, dining and lounge area - comfortable, welcoming and well staffed.
Bathroom plumbing. Only one EV charging point (that was taken up all evening, night and early morning).
Location was convenient for us, clean, comfortable and good breakfast

Everything
Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful food.
Our room was small with a very soft bed which we found uncomfortable but it was our choice for one night's basic accommodation.
Good location for easy access to Norwich City centre. Lovely hotel with friendly professional staff.
The property was lovely the decor was very nice and I loved all the little touches around the whole place from the lampshades to the pictures on the walls and the staff were so helpful and friendly , we were a party of 6 and no complaints from any of us !! We wld defo return and defo recommend- food was yummy too we will b bak !
For the money we paid there was nothing to dislike ……. Exceptional !!
Clean and tidy
Nothing it was really good value for money
Lovely modern, loved we had a sitting room in our bedroom too!
The welcoming wasn’t very warm. The bathmat towel wasn’t clean.
Everything! Wish we were staying longer
Nothing
The location was great for where we wanted to go. The staff were exceptionally helpful including the night porter. The breakfast was delicious.
The car park was really busy as they had several bays sectioned off for a trip bus to park up.
The location, the professionalism of the staff in reception area. Good value for money accommodation.
I've stayed at the George over the past 10 years so I know the property well. Specifically chosen because of the air conditioning. When we arrived on the hottest day ever recorded in UK we arrived to our room and it was quite warm. We turned on the air conditioning only to discover that the air coming out was not at all cold. I spoke with the front desk, she insisted on coming to check to show us how to work the AC. She stated there were no other rooms available. She asked us to wait 10 minutes to see if it cooled. We went to dinner, came back and the room was hotter than ever. Again she had to come check for herself doubting our word. Once we opened the door and the hot air was felt by her she realized we were truthful. She amazing found another room and we had to pack up and move our belongings but only for 1 night. And would need to move back to this room after the AC was fixed. The next morning we moved our stuff again and she said that someone had checked and the AC was working. We hauled our stuff to the room only to discover it was still hot. We finally were able to speak with the owner and he assured us he would have it fixed. So, we left for the better part of the day, came back and found that indeed the AC was broken but had been repaired by the HVAC company. The second night was better. The third night the AC cut off during the night, I turned it back on but one hour later same thing. I reported this to the front desk woman (same one as before). Her disbelief was obvious. I was so disappointed in the George Hotel. Not up to usual standards. The carpet was dirty in the hallways and truly what a disappointing place to stay this time!
Comfortable room, with air con/heating and bathroom with a good shower. Friendly staff, good breakfast both range and quality. My request was met for a first floor room.
Personally I would have liked a room lock as well as chain.
We couldn't have chosen a nicer hotel. Beautifully furnished, extremely comfortable and amazing staff. We enjoyed our stay so much we intend returning later in the year. We had a spacious garden room. Lovely walk in shower. Plenty of parking. There was an excellent choices on the breakfast menu, all freshly cooked to order. We didn't manage to enjoy an evening meal as were visiting family and they had venues pre booked. Next visit we will definitely dine at The George Hotel.
Leaving to return home.
Our only regret was that we were only staying for one night! Lovely room, friendly efficient very professional staff and the food was fantastic. We shall return.
Great location, 15 minute stroll into the city centre. Brilliant staff, just so helpful and professional. Very comfortable rooms with great quality bed linen. Excellent breakfasts.
Nothing.
Lovely hotel, great location. Great breakfast with lots of choices. Comfortable room with a roomy bed and firm mattress.
No air con in my room and it would appear that all the single rooms were lacking of air-con. However, my room was facing away from direct sunlight so wasn't too hot during these heat waves.
The staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast was very good, as was the service. The evening manager was really helpful, allowing us to set up a section of the downstairs for our group of 17. The bar staying open all night is a real plus!
The rooms could do with a refurbish as the paintwork was a little tired looking in places. The breakfast fruits could be fresh and not tinned and a little more variety.
Relaxing great staff bar open all night should you wish
Room a little tired and small but still clean and functional Breakfast good but overcooked
Excellent staff, always helpful. A very nice clean comfortable hotel
Welcoming staff. Relaxed vibe. Comfortable bed & room. Sunny terrace. Free, on-site parking. Great food in restaurant. Wide breakfast choices.
Staff was friendly and helpful and clean room
Marks on wall by the bed off putting
Having stayed at this hotel twice recently I cannot recommend it highly enough. A lovely venue but more importantly, the staff are incredible. Helpful to a fault with a real enthusiasm for what they do. Will stay again.
We recently stayed at the George Hotel for 2 nights and hosted our wedding reception across the Newmarket Suite and the bar. Wow!! The hotel is absolutely incredible. The overall atmosphere is amazing. We cannot thank Soph, Julie and the team (special shoutout to Shelby!) for their hospitality and care throughout our stay and our event. The attention to detail, support and service were all impeccable. The food was complimented by all of our guests (if you haven’t eaten here - you need to!!). The rooms were all high standard, clean, and had a warm feel (but all with great aircon which was most appreciated with the heat!) We cannot thank Soph and the team enough❤️❤️
We really enjoyed our stay here, a positive experience. The hotel is about a mile from the Castle area just off a main road but completely quiet at night. The room was fine and professionally serviced. The lowest setting on the efficient aircon was quiet enough to leave on all night on two very hot occasions. The staff were excellent, efficient and friendly. Breakfasts were delicious. We were going to try different places for our evening meal but didn't bother as the food was so nice (recommend the sharing fish platter) with a good choice of wines.
Fantastic restaurant - really does seem to be the focus of the property. Exceptionally helpful and professional staff. Very clean and quite comfortable furnishings. Air conditioning available (in most of the rooms I believe, an absolute must these days)
Room was quite small and a little dark in the day, view was straight out into a small functional rooftop space so not particularly present. Understandable given the property. Parking was quite busy, particularly around meal times with restaurant customers. We left in the evening to return and struggled to park.
Lovely hospitable staff in a very nice hotel. Our room was fine, if a tad small and the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent - so nice to have the choice of both kippers and smoked haddock in these days when the only choice is usually a variant on the full English. Dinner was good too. Location is great - on a well serviced bus route to town or an easy walk there if you prefer that. We walked to UEA - don't miss the wonderful Sainsbury Gallery - and spent an enjoyable hour or two in the very pleasant Eaton Park on the walk back.
It would have been useful to have had some shelving and some hooks in the bathroom - really nowhere to hang and dry bath towels after use.
The room was cool in the heat, and reasonably spacious. It was well cleaned and simply furnished. Good parking facilities. Lovely bar and restaurant with breakfasts to suit all tastes.
The shower head leaked profusely, and it was very difficult to set the right temperature. The bathroom extractor fan was excessively noisy and came on during the night of its own accord, even though the light was off. The table lamp bases on the bedside tables were so big that they took up two-thirds of the available space, and so we had to put things on the floor instead.
Location, quiet despite being near a main road.
A little up and down to go too and from rooms
Convenient location for our needs.
We would have liked a handrail and shelf when using the shower.
Staff were superb. It was raining when we arrived and they came outside to our car with an umbrella to help. Very friendly, and helpful. Room and facilities were excellent. Food (dinner and brunch) were excellent.
Bar area, room size, air conditioning, coffee machine, decor, en suite.
Unable to open windows, kitchen smell in room, hard pillows
I am ceoliac and the staff at breakfast took really good care of my dietary need. Pleasant and so friendly made good suggestions and I even got a lovely gluten free brownie as a sweet treat which was delicous.
There was nothing I did not like. It was all good and as I expected. The BW is a 3 star hotel and does not pretend to be anything other than that and it did not disappoint.
It’s exceptionally clean, aesthetically beautiful and excellent food. The staff are so friendly and welcoming.
Our bathroom was amazing but the sliding glass door to the shower only opened less than half way (design not faulty) we struggled to get in and out.
Beautiful, quiet, professional, tidy, great food, perfect cocktails, only been there 2 days and 1 night but just hoped to be there more and more. See you soon and will book soon and then 2-4 nights every times
Great location - charming neighbourhood and very quiet. Well situated to walk to nearby restaurants and drive to the location out of town for our business meeting. I was leading were a party of 5 and all my colleagues happy with the accommodation. Decor throughout the hotel was chic and understated. Restaurant food was superb (highly recommend the halibut and eggs at breakfast). Staff were without exception friendly, attentive and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable- I would have loved some real coffee bags instead of instant coffee and some bottles of water or a water cooler nearby. All communal areas were clean and charming- as others have said there was a really ‘calm’ atmosphere. I would definitely stay again and would highly recommend to colleagues or friends and family.
All the staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly, I liked the lounge and breakfast areas. The hotel was delightfully quiet, despite being very near a main road. The breakfast was a paradox, perfectly poached eggs. However....
Breakfast on toasted white bread (I asked for this) which was the grimmest toast I've had since last century, thin and soggy. At home I usually have Pane Pugliese from Waitrose it's delicious perhaps you should try it and see how it goes down? The room whilst being value for money, affordable was small and the bed really wasn't the most comfortable ever.
Warm welcome at reception. Spotless room & bathroom. Comfortable bed. Enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine on the terrace. Excellent breakfast. Food in the bistro also very good. Great cappuccinos. Looking forward to my next stay.
I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. It was very well located and a good place to stay when I was recently in Norwich. The room was very clean and the bathroom was well appointed (i had a room in the cottages.) The staff were very friendly and helpful, the only problem I had was on the first (of two mornings), the breakfast took a long time to be served, but the second day it was quicker. Having said that the food was good and the ambience was calm and so a good way to start the day.
Veldig bra hotell. Meget positive medarbeidere.
Kunne gjerne hatt treningsfasiliteter.
Hotel was light, modern and very clean.
Limited parking. Not keen on dogs inside the restaurant.
Excellent location and quiet. The staff were great, cheerful and very helpful
Excellent
USB plug in room to charge my phone
Location and availability of EV charger Air con in room
Carpet to rooms on stairs needs cleaning Room was a small Bed was small Bathroom could do with a bit of decoration No water in room Pillows uncomfortable
The location was convenient for a nights stay. The room was basic but comfortable. We didn't use any other facilities but other guests looked like they were satisfied.
We could hear other guests moving around, the light in the bathroom was very bright and could do with a night light. The pillows were either too hard, too soft, too low or too high. I suffer with neck pain so wished I had my own pillow.
Lovely and clean. Good air conditioning
Location.clean. Parking
Reception should be 24 h ,not to close 12 midnight
Location
Hot water tap in sink hard to use as too far from basin. Requested a twin room weeks before but was given a double No staff on site to rectify. Had to do myself but lady in reception did offer to help.
Excellent
Not an easy hotel for elderly either some mobility issues. No lift available and this is not made clear on their website. Also, shower, though good was over a bath eith no handle for aiding getting in and out!
Location
Hot water tap in basin too close so you couldn't actually use it properly. Not really fit for purpose
Parking, location, cleanliness
Heating in my room was via air conditioning unit
Breakfast choice was excellent. A small buffet with choice and a choice of cooked breakfasts all freshly cooked to your order. We stayed during the heatwave but the air conditioning worked well and stayed on even when you wee not in the room. easy to find as just off the main road to the south of Norwich but wasn't noisy. Good parking facilities and easy access to the city
Nothing - all was good - rooms are a bit small
Beautifully fresh and clean and smart. Nice and quiet. Amazing breakfast.
helpful staff, air con in room
we found breakfast arrangements a bit confusing and it took time to get used to
Air conditioned hotel which was a positive in the heatwave. Food available on site.
Parking was quite tight. Rooms on the small side.
All the staff were excellent
Great location for me
Very easy to find on the way into Norwich. Lovely clean room and bathroom. Friendly reception staff. Great to be given a sensible size bed as a single traveller. Good parking. Lovely oak tree in the car park!
Pillows on the bed were a bit unforgiving and lumpy.
Property exterior and communal bar/restaurant were very nice. Outdoor seating area was lovely in the sunshine. Within 15 minute walk to the town centre so great location. The bathroom was spacious and the bath was nice and wide. The staff are lovely particularly the reception staff.
Beds are uncomfortable and the walls are paper thin. Every time the person above moved we could hear it all, including their snoring at night. Rooms have a musty smell. Could do with an update.
Very friendly staff, quiet location and walking distance to town
Toilet door wouldn’t close. Room close to needing a lick of paint.
The restaurant was excellent and staff super helpful and welcoming.
The room was basic and bed and pillows uncomfortable. Decor needs attention in some rooms.
The location was very good, used buses one day. The Garden House was an added bonus, very comfortable and spacious, with private outdoor space. Kitchenette facilities were unexpected and most appreciated.
The bathroom being downstairs, especially when you need to use it during the night!
Good reception, clean room
No lift
Excellent restaurant.
Rooms a little on the small side.
Great hotel, so convenient to city centre. Very comfortable with very pleasant staff.
Friendly staff on arrival and throughout our stay, the hotel is lovely and the twin room we had was stylishly decorated and very comfortable especially having airconditioning during this heatwave. It is only about a 20 minute easy walk to the shops and restaurants and the theatre royal too.
We often say at this hotel at least once a year and we do really enjoy our stay here with friendly staff and good food and drink and clean and tidy.
Unfortunately it's one that we have mentioned before It's always a nightmare to park and we have said before a parking space should be allocated for staying guests not to just pasers by. Also for the room we had it was over priced as the bathroom layout wasn't very practical and needed a good upgrade.
Room and breakfast
Extremely warm welcome from the staff who were on hand to help at all times. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, excellent breakfasts, a very comfortable room and really enjoyed our stay.
The rooms are very small for a double and although adequate, clean and comfortable, there really wasn’t much space. For two nights it was fine but I think i would have struggled with any longer.
Location terrific, close to city and within nice walking surroundings if you like a small walk after dinner. Lovely restaurant, bar area and outside section. A few people just came in on Sunday to have coffee and read a book or paper - that comfortable. Rooms were generous with all usual amenities. 2nd time we have been and will definitely visit again.
Good location, clean room and the bonus of air conditioning
The room was perfectly adequate for our needs with plenty of storage space. The shower in our room was located in the bath, which is not ideal as I feel these days a dedicated standalone shower is much more convenient and acceptable. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was okay for the money spent, although I thought that the pastries were not fresh that morning.
Bathroom could be updated with a modern shower enclosure put in and remove the bath.
Clean and comfortable and clearly very popular. Decent private parking and great breakfast. All of the staff were really helpful and friendly. A short easy walk into the City Centre
Rooms were a little small and could have been a bit quieter but it was very busy so maybe some noise was to be expected.
Quirky, apparently newly decorated or refitted. Very pleasant bar and brasserie. Good breakfast and helpful staff. A short bus ride into the centre of Norwich from a bus stop nearby. All in all, enjoyable and recommended
No complaints
The George is the only place in the city where I can drink the coffee that meets my Italian-palate standards, made with the care this beverage deserves. At least twice a week, after dropping my kids to school, I settle in at The George to wait out the morning traffic in a calm, quiet refuge where I can either work, chat with friends or family with my coffee and sometimes a quality breakfast. The place feels sparkly clean, including the perfectly well-kept toilets, that appears I am the first one using them on the day. Later, after the school pick-up, I return with my kids, who have come to love the place as much as I have, usually having hot chocolate and some snacks. I sometimes enjoy their quality meals here with my wife after a school-related event, meet with other parents, or for work related matters. Quiet enough to concentrate, yet alive to feel comfortable, I often bring my laptop and work for an hour or so before heading to my actual office. The space is ideal for meetings too, offering a professional yet relaxed setting that impresses my contacts every time. Located at a fancy location in Norwich and having their own carpark, 10 minutes walking to the centre and bus station, is another reason I find myself sitting there again, as anywhere I go, I pass by this place. The aesthetics of the place reflects the expected service I consistently get. The only thing lower than expected is the price! The George is the only accommodation I recommend to my contacts and consultants when they travel to Norwich for work or pleasure. In a world where few places earn our loyalty, this one has earned mine.
Crab salad amazing . Hotel really well maintained and looked after and the staff - Michelle and Sophie were great
The food is amazing, with a great choice too. Michelle and Sophie who served us were excellent and very helpful.
We had a fabulous evening meal and lunch during our stay in Norwich. All the staff were super helpful, special thanks to Sophie & Michelle.
Fantastic food & the Service exceptional !!! Upgraded rooms lovely - proper treat
Staff welcoming and very helpful. Restaurant very good for breakfasts and dinners. Executive room was very good and spacious.
In the bedroom, more and stronger coat hangers would be an improvement, the ones provided were very weak for hanging trousers. There were no coat hooks in the bedroom or bathroom for hanging coats & hats or clothes.
Breakfast. Reception staff very good too
Room was a little small and noisy bathroom
staff were super helpful and excellent
the walls were a bit thin. someone had a shower at midnight that woke me up
Everything, particularly the restaurant staff
