Smart modern room with good quality fit and finish... friendly staff and superb location for a small stroll into the heart of the City. Availability of parking on site is fabulous but spaces are limited and can't be pre booked. We were going to have breakfast but in the end decided to move on to our next destination

The prices in the bar are ridiculously expensive... and that was part of the reason we left the breakfast as we felt too aggrieved at the exorbitant bar prices the night before

The view from thr room and the location were great, thd room layout was spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly.

The cleanliness was not up to standard. There were no USB charging points in the room and hairdryer blew up as soon as it was switched on. The so called continental breakfast did not have a great selection and the over priced hot breakfast which was extra was a let down the ingredients were not of top quality. The house keepers constantly kept knocking though we had paid for a late check out had the do not disturb dign on the door.

Room was small. One towel for two people. The mattress was very uncomfortable. The continental breakfast included in price of stay only allowed for one selection of food eg. we had toast and croissant.

Breakfast, huge let down, the price states breakfast included but it wasn’t. You paid £10 and for that you got access to cheap cereal, coffee from an urn and a choice of one item from options that you would expect to be on a buffet continental breakfast. Cooked breakfasts were extra at a cost of I believe £5 for 3 items. Little other things like tables on both days were very wonky, waiting a long period for a Croissant, Coffee urns empty etc, for the cost of the hotel, almost £400 for 2 nights with parking it should have had a decent breakfast included.

Bed was too soft. The room was too hot and the duvet too thick for the season we were in. No air con working. Bar area was good but no atmosphere due to lack of customers. Prices high in bar - usual for hotels.

I booked with Booking.com I’ve been before I let the hotel know That we were bringing my small well behaved dog they said you’ll have to upgrade your room to a dog friendly one an extra £40 so I agreed breakfasts was included but unlike the previous visit extra for a cooked breakfast very poor the wanted more money for a full cooked breakfast

The location was good - very convenient for central Chester. Housekeeping staff were all lovely.

Lots of little things: when I called to make sure the hotel knew we’d booked a dog-friendly room, we were told we had to upgrade and pay extra (none of of which was mentioned at booking stage on Booking.com); the television didn’t work properly; after the hotel’s card machine didn’t work when I was trying to pay for room service, I got a slightly accusatory call from the restaurant noting that the machine “works everywhere in the hotel” and reminding me that I would have to pay at reception; when we went to the restaurant for a coffee in the morning, the staff just left us standing at the door - there was no ‘greeter’ - and then got our order wrong; at checkout we were left waiting whilst two staff spoke to another guest (one wasn’t actually part of the conversation) and another went in and out of the office. None of these things alone would bother me - nobody’s perfect, etc. - but together they created the impression of a general lack of the type of attention to detail that I would expect from a hotel like this.

Restaurant.

Only given one set of towels... had to find a spare in the wardrobe. Clogged shower... my feet got a bath! Flashing light on the ceiling keeping me awake... told by receptionist in yhe morning that every room has this.

The room was large, bright and comfortable with excellent air conditioning. Helpful staff on reception and good service in the bar.

The continental breakfast included in the room rate is very limited and does not represent good value for money. The coffee served at breakfast is not fresh as it is made in a big pot and then sits there stewing all morning. We had to go out each morning to find a decent coffee. The mattress was very soft.

Location was great. Rooms small but adequate for a night away. Restaurant was cosy and food quality great.

Lack of parking on site. Bed was exceptionally uncomfortable - a sprung mattress with mattres topper. Very soft and felt the springs. Poor sleep for both me and partner.

Great views over the race course. On-site parking(additional charge). Staff were lovely throughout the hotel. Lovely pub next door to hotel offering lovely food and drinks.

Breakfast-for a 4 star hotel it was very poor. No refills of juice etc. Small selection and even though had booked breakfast through booking.com got told when we got to hotel that only limited items included-ie no hot breakfast-had to insist my booking was for breakfast of our choice included. Embarrassing really. Parking is £20.

Loved this hotel and the staff were lovely made us feel very welcome and were very helpful ,always smiling.Rooms were very clean, lovely view over the Racecourse.Will cannot wait to come back again. We had the continentale breakfast which had a great choice.

We loved the room and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. I have travelled a lot and this is one of the most comfortable beds and pillows I have slept on. The walk to the centre of the city is 5 minutes and the reception staff are a real asset to the hotel. Very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are large enough and spotlessly clean. Loved that there was an iron and board available in the cupboard.

There are no facilities for drinks if you want cold drinks or coffee at any time other than meal times. A vending machine would work perfectly. Booking.com advertised breakfast included however it’s a continental breakfast which should be stated. Also charging for parking should be stated before booking. Transparency is needed to prevent confusion or misunderstanding.

The evening receptionist was lovely and very welcoming. Unfortunately that's where the positive's ended.

The room was extremely bog-standard, it was an extremely small room and not at all what was pictured online. Very few plug sockets, only found 2 in the whole room, 3 including the one for the TV. TV signal was extremely poor and difficult to navigate. The bathroom looked nice as you first walked in, to find that the shower had barely half a screen and water would constantly pour out and left the whole bathroom floor a huge slipping hazard. The taps for the sink were stiff at first and then to found that they turn the opposite way than they should. The breakfast was the most disorganized fiasco i have ever witnessed. We had booked and pre-paid for the continental breakfast, the coffee had ran out and constantly waited for bowls to have 1 bowl of cereal. We were unable to order anything from the menu as we had already waited 20 minutes for a bowl and coffee. As we were then on a time crunch, we just asked for 2 glasses of juice which we had to wait another 20 minutes for. As we left the hotel, there was no one on the reception desk and no clear slot for an express check out, so we left the keys. Overall i wish i never booked this hotel unfortunately and what a disgrace.

A good looking property in a good spot for a visit to Chester. A good outlook over the racecourse.

The car park is too expensive. The breakfast could definitely be improved. The breakfast tables were not cleared quickly enough in the dining room. Also the continental breakfast table is not kept topped up. We had to chase bowls, milk etc which had run out and was not replaced.

Bit of a misunderstanding about the breakfast. Looking when I booked it i was under the impression I was getting a full breakfast but apparently it only means continental. You have to pay extra for the full breakfast

All good. Would have been nice to have had full breakfast included and slightly less cost for parking. Drinks were a little expensive ie. £10.90 for a pint of pale ale and a small dish of potato crisps. Otherwise excellent.

The location was fabulous. The parking at Little Roodee car park. The 5th level bar and view over the racecourse. Lifts were efficient and fast. Room clean, spacious and bed so comfy. Perfect toilet and shower. Great 3-night price.

Hotel parking 20GBP too high, nearby parking provided better value at under half the cost. Breakfast was SO slow, had to wait for juice and croissants when it could gave been self-service. Cooked breakfast extra and a long wait for service, more staff and better supervision required to speed things up.

If you’re put in room 401 expect a poor nights sleep, other side of the wall is a service lift going half the night trollies banging as they enter and leave the lift. Upon complaining in the morning I was promised by a duty manager a senior manager would be in touch, 3 days later nothing, don’t make promises you can’t keep, or Sn Managers back your duty staff. I expect similar rooms ending 01 will be the same. There is obviously an emphasis on ensuring a good night’s sleep for customers as you close the bar balcony at 10.30pm so rooms above and below don’t get polluted with noise, shame the same can’t be said for rooms directly next to lifts. I’m not going to mention breakfast as every other review has already, simple train your receptionist to say continental breakfast rather than breakfast is included in your stay, saves any confusion.

House keeper was lovely and apologetic

I would like a partial refund. 300 pounds paid and the room was so dirty. Had to ask for a change of room. Changed and clean but substandard for 300 pounds. Bottle of procecco in the room as an apology. But the bed was uncomfortable and the room dated. Chipped funiture ect. Man at the reception was not very friendly. Did feel welcomed

We felt the 5th floor restaurant and bar needed some modernisation and upgrade as it looked tired and unkept , the staff were in short supply but did well to keep on top of things, on what was the busiest night in the city with thousands of tourists there should have been more customers and they hadn’t made the most of it with the amount of customers in the restaurant it was very quiet , there was no cucumber or elderflower liqueur for cocktails and we ate with a total of four tables (a Friday night it was a poor turnout and not as inviting as we thought it might have been , no atmosphere

I’ve stayed here many times - for the price everything is excellent. There’s a stunning view over Chester from the breakfast room, the bedrooms are modern and clean, a good gym with free weights and cardio machines, all the essentials in the room (and some nice extra touches, the staff are helpful and friendly, and the location could not be better.

This was the second time we have stayed at the Abode. The first time the full English breakfast was included in the Bed and Breakfast price, together with the parking. This time we paid for Bed and Breakfast when we initially booked our stay and decided to let the “Train take the strain. We only found out that the Full English breakfast/cooked options were now available, but at an extra cost, together with the Parking at £20 a day. We only found these out when we received an email from the Abode confirming our booking the day before we arrived. We were initially taken aback by this information and fortunately we had decided to use the train, this time. This information should be made available whilst booking, as a matter of principle.

5th floor bar overlooking part of racecourse. Lovely balcony to sit outside and enjoy the good weather. Very large beds. Good air con. Continental Breakfast very good.

Very comfortable hotel in a great location. Staff were very friendly and the food was very good. Drinks and food slightly on the expensive side but the quality of the hotel itself makes up for that.

Lovely stay right beside the racecourse, with everything you need for a simple, comfortable stopover. Breakfast on the 5th floor comes with gorgeous views across the track, and the continental options were fresh and varied.

The room was simple and no‑frills, but fairly reflected the price we paid. Parking is limited on‑site, so it’s worth using the racecourse car park instead — much easier and only a short walk away.

The step into the bathroom area was a trip hazard and my partner caught his foot on it twice. Unfortunately there was a wedding on the day of arrival we hadn’t been told about and meant the brasseries restaurant was not in use-we went out of the hotel for dinner.

Breakfast included = continental only. We have never encountered this before in the UK and we’re not impressed we had to pay for an English breakfast. We thought it would be included in the B&B price.
