Aalton Motel

Not much other than the location. Room was cleanish apart from the plastic bag left on top of the lamp - didnt discover it was on there until after i turned the lamp on and smelt the burning. Walls paper thin can hear every word spoken by your neighbour. Wouldn't recommend unless you are desperate. Needs serious upgrades, better customer service and genuine care. Please do not reply saying that you do not have a record of my stay, that is a straight up lie. I have more than enough proof, including the partial refund you gave me and various other communications between us. Along with the text message i received from you on the 3rd of September 2026, criticising my review following the refund.

When we first arrived the gentleman who checked us in was nice, however the reception room smelt terribly like they were cooking fish - not a good look. He then gave a us a key to our room and then proceeded to tell us that one of the keys to the room was missing (red flag given the security risk of the key being lost or with god knows who), i then drive to "our room", go to open the door and realise there is someone already in there - she was as shocked as i was when i went to try and open the door to the room (to top it off im sure her business there was dodgy given the strange men that kept knocking on her door), she was also noisy up until about 3am, once we got into our room we discovered it was the wrong one and in fact a downgrade to what was booked and paid for i approached reception asked to have the right room only to be told that that room was given to someone else so i couldnt get it, i was not impressed as the room we now had was not up to standard. Once i raised this matter witht the gentleman he said they would arrange for a refund, i then arrived at the Christchurch airport to discover that my booking was "Cancelled" as i was apparently a no show. What i didnt realise is the amount of time and effort i had to put in to getting this refund, including emails, calls to the motel and subsequent discussions with motel staff which went no where as i was never called back or replied to, i then discovered that i couldnt even call through to the motel from my cell phone so i called from my work phone and got through (seems i may have been blocked), i spoke to the lady twice (after multiple attempts) she gave me her cell number to send through proof of booking and payment, i then had to follow up again to show proof AGAIN after id already done what she had asked, i even sent screenshots of my message to her.

Location. Quiet even though on busy road. No electric kettle in kitchen. But once informed of this oversight, they bought one to us even though it was late in the evening

A fantastic 2 night stay. We were upgraded for free. The hosts are very friendly. It was cold in Christchurch, and our room had heaters. They certainly did the job of heating up all of our motel room. It was lovely and cozy. There is a bus stop outside the motel if you need to take a bus anywhere in Christchurch. A 24/7 shop is two doors down from the motel.

We can't fault anything, it was lovely stay.

Only electric blanket on one side of the bed ,the light on the wall was on the other side of bed and the switch for the wall light half way up the wall , not good as had to get out of bed walk round to turn light off . An arm chair would also make a big difference,

Hair dryer is dumb - only goes for short periods before cutting out and few minutes later goes again then stops. No shower gel shampoo or conditioner in the dispensers.

Handy location, close to everything. Staff were nice and accommodating. Spa pool.

No air-conditioning - There was a heatwave (33°) and no pool (As advertised when making the booking). Pool out of order. Horrible beds - Multiple blankets were used under the sheet in an attempt to make the bed softer/comfortable - broken/collapsed springs - Definitely need to upgrade.

The mould on the roof in our room, on the net curtains & curtains. The broken light shade that was just hanging on & could have called & hit someone. No milk in the fridge for a hot drink.
