it was all very nice
Perfect and beautiful location. David even came outside in the rain to show us how to set the car charger up. All round excellent.
Can’t think of a single thing.
Very clean, staff were amazing and was in a great location as well

Everything was excellent
Maybe the pillows could have been firmer, but that's all I can think of!
Staff were very attentive and friendly. The breakfast choices were excellent.
Nothing not to like - just I wish I had more time to enjoy the Lake District.
Great location. The room was lovely and the bed was comfortable. The decor in the dining area and the garden were both lovely. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was lovely.
The shower head needs a good scrub to get the black gunk off.
Location stunning, nice and quiet, staff were brilliant, breakfast was great, very dog friendly and the rooms/bar/ lounge was fantastic, would say it's my favourite place I've stayed in the lakes
Unsure about the £25 per night for a dog considering how much the hotel is per night
wie man es sich wünscht
Hotel is lovely. Bizzy staff e lovely but seemed stretched at times. R room was quite small but very nice. N very comfy bed. Food was good. Loved the gardens. Very quirky hotel.
R room was roasting. N quite noisy tbh. Took a while to get to sleep
Room was good with decent view- could have done with real milk not dreaded sachets! Glad to see brek had decent jams in Bonne Maman pots! Waiter service at brek was exceeding good, especially Callum: give the lad a rise for his friendliness and quick thinking when I needed a serviette! He made a real difference, bless him. Surprised your papers were Daily Mail and Express- how hotel clientele has changed these days!
Banishing tabloids ( see above) Could have done with getting into my room a tad earlier Did not appreciate being addressed by my surname in welcome email-machines are so cold, and error- prone!
Really comfy bed & decor was smart & modern in our room. Great bar area for drinks before & after dinner. Amazing setting in Borrowdale. Excellent breakfasts, freshly cooked to order which was a lovely change from pre-booked buffet hot food Also plenty of fresh fruits & pastries.
Stay passed too quickly!
Beautiful surroundings
we felt the staff were not particularly friendly or welcoming. We ate in the conservatory in the evening, but the lady on reception was bordering on rude when we tried to change our seating from the restaurant to the bar area. The staff in the restaurant were clearly very busy, but it took over 20 mins for anyone to come to the table. No water/bread was offered and for our second drinks order we were told by one waiter that he couldn't take the order and we should wait for the bar man to come over. We went to him directly to place the order in the end - the bar man being the only staff member to really engage in any conversation with us. We had stayed the previous night in a much more budget friendly hotel but the staff could not do enough for us. It was a marked difference to the staff at the Borrowdale, and we would definitely prefer to return to that previous location and much warmer welcome.
As always here, dinner was quality food, very enjoyable, served by very pleasant, friendly staff. choice of eating in the restaurant, conservatory which opens onto the beautiful garden, or in the bar area. dogs are allowed in the conservatory . Wonderful to see them, they are always well-behaved and lie at the side of their table. We choose conservatory for evening meal and restaurant for breakfast which again is served by the lovely staff. They offer help yourself continental with a lot of choice, then bring toast and preserves, followed by your choice of cooked breakfast. Very relaxing hotel that also offers 3 lounge areas. The location in Borrowdale valley is beautiful, and is also a good base for visiting other areas. Love the place! It is managed well by a lovely, hands-on friendly manager, Maria.
N/A Loved everything.
Good location for walks around the lake, well connected via bus to Keswick and a short drive to access Cat Bells mountain. The room was serviced regardless of the time we left the hotel which was great.
Smelt of dogs as you entered, the breakfast was a bit limited. The room did not have a safe which is inconvenient if you do not wish to take valuables out with you.
The hotel was in a great location with lovely views . It has a lot of character which can be seen in the architectural features. The staff were very helpful and courteous. The hotel is dog friendly with meals served in the conservatory.
Our room was very small, especially the bathroom. The menu for dinner had a reasonable selection although we felt some prices were rather high. We ordered Roast of the Day and were quite disappointed.
Breakfast was very good

Lovely building. Good breakfast. Great location. Male staff in the restaurant very attentive.
Blonde receptionist needs training on her people skills and customer service - she’s too busy looking at her screen rather than attending to her guests. This happened on multiple occasions and we ended up waiting ages to be seated for breakfast. The waitress in the restaurant at breakfast needs to be more upbeat - a simple good morning wouldn’t go amiss!
Exceptionally clean Very nice staff Modern bedroom
Bedroom( no .6) - couldn’t open bathroom window as it was noisy as beside extractor fan from kitchen
Location, views. Nice rooms modern but also old fashioned style and character. Fantastic food and drinks.

It was all good, thanks.
None really
Great food, comfortable hotel, friendly staff. Located near Lake, good walks on the doorstep. Relaxed bar and garden area.
Been coming here on and off for about 15 years at least. Ideal for Buttermere, Honiston zip wire and a lovely walk round the lake into Keswick. More mature guests than the sister hotel at Lodore. Relaxing and quiet environment.
Fewer staff than in previous years and it shows. Food and drink service not as efficient as in past. Meals in bar and restaurant quite expensive. Our bath was not cleaned one day, which would not have happened previously
Location, fantastic breakfast and a lovely garden to enjoy a drink in.
Reception and bar service was a little slow
Great location and safe parking for my motorcycle. Staff were lovely and room very comfortable. The shower was great and hot. Breakfast was tasty and great choice
The staff were absolutely lovely, and it’s all so dog friendly - staff were constantly coming up to say hi to our dog and make sure everything was going well! The room was lovely, very nicely decorated, and the shower was excellent. The food was also great.
Evening meal was fantastic, staff very helpful. Decent pint in the bar whilst awaiting our room as we were early. All requests were catered for by the hotel for my wife's birthday, not often do hotels get it 100% right, but the staff here did.
Full breakfast wasnt freshly cooked and felt/tasted like it could have just been on a self serve system, bit of a let down to how the evening meal the night before.
Great location where you could go start a short walk or long hike from the doorstep and close to the lake and hills.
The room was small and the bed soft and small and the bathroom was very bright with no possibility to turn off the fan. General decor is dated.
Lovely hotel and staff views are amazo unfortunately I was bites all over
Flees in hotel contacted the manager who said basically its midges from the window being open which was not open I stated this
Decor, comfort, staff & excellent food
Bathroom needs refurbishing
Everything on the whole
Moving tables in the dining room
Very pleasant staff throughout. I expected something a little shabby but it was immaculate and fitted out beautifully. The scrambled egg for breakfast was perfection
Nothing to speak of
Staff were very helpful and lovely. The breakfast was great!
The room was very different than what was advertised. Ours felt very run down, tired and needed basic repairs / maintenance. The bathroom was very narrow and small, it was difficult to get changed in there following a shower.
Breakfast was very good.
New staff need familiarisation training so they don’t send guests on a hunt for their room. More clarity on which rooms are non dog friendly or a better cleaning methods to protect new guests from allergies cause by previous occupants pets.
The hotel is in a very good location, 10 mins away to Keswick town centre and lots of trails nearby. It's also very dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in the conservatory and lounge while you eat, and the dog friendly rooms are big. We ate at the restaurant a few times and the meals were all good. Would recommend their Sunday carvery too.
We were initially given the wrong room and had to pack up and move to another room. It was a minor inconvenience just moving but as the staff knocked on our door and opened the room, our dog managed to escape. While my husband was running after the dog, another staff shouted to get our dog in control instead of helping catch him. He almost escaped the hotel and he would have been lost. Meanwhile the staff I was speaking to also acted like it was no big deal. I think another inconvenience was the lack of airconditioning. As the summer gets hotter I think hotels need to start thinking about it. The room only had one fan initially and it was a small one. We had to ask for another as it was too warm for us.
Fantastic location
Lovely place run by lovely people
Room was lovely. Good size for single occupancy. Food was first class.
Not sure my room had been hoovered as there was a lot of grass and some debris on the carpet.
very friendly staff and well presented
got charged £52.75 on my bill which is food and drinks me nor my wife ordered very disappointing that this can happen .happily the receptionist dealt with it professionally and refunded me the amount above.
Lovely setting, beautifully maintained garden and rooms. Spacious comfortable rooms. Liked different relaxing areas - outside, conservatory, games room, bar area
Nothing
The location
Whilst I accept the hotel allowing dogs to stay at the hotel I was disappointed that the hotel allows guests to leave their dogs in the room alone. We experienced a dog barking whilst left alone. We did report this to hotel staff and were informed they do allow dogs to be in the guests room alone. This is not detailed on the hotel website, this should be made clear.
All was well except dinner on first evening was poor. I am told it was much better on the following day but we went elsewhere. Location & garden seating area are the main strength along with rooms and in our case the view.
See above, roast dinner was very poor, more £10.00 than almost £30.00. England losing in the semi final was a draw back .....
Breakfast was good with a large selection of choices available. Dinner in restaurant was good for the one night we dined their but we felt that the menu choices were not for our liking. Room was clean and serviced daily and all comforts were available, view from room was to die for.
Dinner menu was limited to our likes, some of the food on menu was a little too fussy.
Staff were exceptional, welcoming helpful ,going over and beyond . Food was excellent, Location was amazing with a bus stop right outside, every 20 minutes so no need to use my car during our short stay. Lots of comfortable seating areas and bar available all day. Keswick was lovely with Theatre by the Lake a real bonus. Boat trip was lovely and good value
Room was a bit small and bathroom very small. I could have booked a more expensive room but went for the cheapest so my choice really. No lift. One flight of stairs, so manageable but not desirable Staff very helpful with luggage etc
It was very good.
Would need shower mat and hand rails
Great location, staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good
Stained bedding. Ran out of the food that came with the burger in the bar so that wasn't particularly good value for money
Great location
No hot water on first morning and slow service for meals and drinks
The Staff were lovely hard working very accommodating, Marie the manager is such a lovely thoughtful lady very hard working
Nothing it was perfect
Location, garden, peace
No air conditioning, no instructions how to switch off underfloor heating, no space in bathroom
Lovely breakfast, excellent dinner, attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble, short easy drive into Keswick. Free off-street private parking.

Very well presented hotel with friendly staff, excellent facilities in a quiet location. Beautifully maintained garden.
The washbasin in the bathroom was very slow to drain and the toilet bowl was loose on the floor.
Location, facilities
Limited bar meal options
The room was lovley and clean and the staff were lovley and accommodating to myself and my dog
Breakfast was fine but the waitress was grumpy Stay was good
Otherwise all good
Hotel is fantastic
Place clean staff
Good breakfast great location
Went down for dinner at 8.30 to resturant to be i formed was closed even tho when checked in was informed last seating was 9pm.
The dog friendliest hotel ever. Food excellent, service brilliant and easily recommended.
Breakfast was nice and staff very tentative. Service for dinner was also very good. Reception and bar staff friendly, helpful and pleasant. Decor generally very good, and clean in communal areas, bar, restaurant etc. Gardens of the hotel were very nice and very well tended too. Powerful shower and comfortable bed.
The bathroom was dirty, with black mould on the shower head, had not been cleaned in months. Ceiling roses of the main light fixtures not secured with exposed wiring. Wardrobe upper cupboard hinge broken. 6 foot piece of architrave missing from around wardrobe frame. Privacy compromised in bathroom, no blind on window. Tipping hazard at the hotel main entrance door, rubber threshold displaced from door trim.
Excellent service in a cosy and well appointed hotel. The inclusive full Cumbrian Breakfast was delicious.
The evening meal of roast beef was excellent, but for £29 the quantity of beef provided seemed rather small.
Faultless, great place and amazing staff
The staff, food and rooms are exceptional
Nothing
The property was beautiful
Service was lacking not up to a four star hotel. Reception is unmanned most of the time as Staff double as reception and servers. Staff work hard but seem shot-staffed.
The bar’s & lounges were comfortable, the beer garden was great. Plenty of choices in the menu. Staff were very friendly. Nice touch with free coffee after dinner.
The meal portions were large, would prefer smaller portions & so then we may have managed starters & sweet.
Food was excellent per se. Single room was very small though.
The Restaurant Menu offering for Dinner was excellent for our taste and choice. The Bar Menu, although not offered whilst dining in the Conservatory, needs to have a few more choices eg, a pasta dish a salad. Some people do not like overly, herbed/spice food so need to cater a little less 'fine' dining options. Service was excellent - Gentlemen who served us very polite, engaging, very professional.
Position. The staff were helpful, especially within the restaurant.
No lift, though a member of staff helpfully carried our cases up to our refurbished room on the second floor. However, over the five days and four nights, the room was not vacuumed at all, and it was evident! However, the food was dismal, and as my wife remarked, cooking is obviously a job, and not a vocation! Cooked breakfast which had evidently been drying up on a hot plate for some time, parsley sauce with fish pie which I turned upside down in its container, it defied gravity. High meal prices not reflected in meal quality at all. Undercooked root vegetables every meal. Over-cooked new potatoes every meal.
Smukt hotel og smukke omgivelser. Nemt tilgængeligt med bus fra Keswick.
Location. Views. Lovely atmosphere and ambiance . Quiet. Room felt luxurious

Gorgeous hotel in a beautiful area. Walk straight from the door. A short drive into Keswick.

The Borrowdale hotel is in a wonderful spot surrounded by outstanding scenery. It is a quality hotel offering a great dining experience, comfortable quiet rooms and caring helpful staff.
Nothing the hotel can influence, but don't rely on the bus service. The timetable is just for show!

Excellent! 10/10
The menu is possibly too adventurous? What was served for two mains dinner dishes poorly met the description given.
Location, decor, ambience etc.
Not all but quite a few of the food items were a bit disappointing
Oh gosh… I don’t even know where to start. This is by far the BEST hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Firstly, the location. It’s literally in the middle of the Lake District surrounded by nature. The view from the rooms is unbelievably nice. My room was incredible! It was nicely, classically furnished and really well equipped. The bathroom was very modern and clean, absolutely loved it. Staff were extremely nice and courteous as well. The breakfast was really good and offered a wide range to choose from including the buffet. I will not only recommend but even promise that I will come again. 10000/5 stars!
Very good
A well kept hotel which has kept hold of its history whilst being quite modern. Impeccable service from all staff, again holding with traditional values of etiquette and service which has been lost in so many other hotels. The Borrowdale is in a quieter location away from the bustle of Keswick and good access at various points to the lake.
There are parts of the hotel that could f do with a touch up but I really am splitting hairs here!
Location was beautiful
No air con in the rooms, extremely uncomfortable night
Terrible food
Comfortable bedroom and lounge. Excellent breakfast. Great location- bus stops outside. Relaxing stay, quiet at night.
Nothing- all positive.
Location fantastic
Staff pleasant, professional and helpful but hotel very obviously very understaffed
The location and the hotel building/facilities. Staff were all very helpful.
Expensive drinks at the bar. Insufficient staff numbers to cover customer demand at times.
Hotel location Parking facility. Hotel roomsize.
Staff - some of the staff aren't friendly towards Asian guests. We didn't enjoy the stay overall. So, please avoid this hotel if you are Asian, or strictly avoid if you are Asian vegetarian. Breakfast - we asked for cafe latte on day 1 & was told we are very busy can not serve it. On day 2 we went during quiet time for breakfast and then they said coffee machine is broken, can not serve latte. Room - We asked for an another room with a better view then the parking lot view but we were told it's booking.com you need to contact. They can't do anything for us, we were celeberating wife's birthday & she wasn't happy at all.
Wonderful building in a fabulous location for walking, running and climbing
The only downside was it’s way too hot in the bedrooms that we struggled to sleep. Window open and radiator off and it was still way too warm
Great position
Location
Food was average and a bit on the expensive side
Staff very accommodating
Too beautiful 😍
The Breakfast was good. Good choice and very quick service.
Having to book a time slot for breakfast
Beautiful location, friendly staff & cleanliness
Location was really good. Staff excellent. Spotless Food great
A lovely hotel in a fab location, and VERY dog friendly. Lovely beer garden. Reasonably priced, decent ale. Skinny fries were delicious as was breakfast. There have been moans about having to eat breakfast in the conservatory with your dog, and that being awkward because continental breakfast, orange juice, etc is in the restaurant supposedly some distance away, which is not the case, but in any case the staff was very helpful. I'd definitely visit again with or without my dog. My only struggle was the heat in the room and the windows locked down. We both struggled with sleep, though comfy bed and room.
Hot bedroom
Super dog friendly Lovely staff
Pillows
Lovely location.
Having food in the conservatory and having to go find the staff, especially at breakfast. The dining room was well looked after but we had to go to the dining room to ask for service. Please look after the people with dogs who pay for the same service as those without dogs.⁸
The location and views were excellent.

Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, the Borrowdale Hotel offers a delightful escape for nature lovers and food enthusiasts alike. Here’s a closer look at what makes this hotel stand out, as well as a few areas that could use improvement. **Stunning Views** The most striking feature of the Borrowdale Hotel is undoubtedly its breathtaking views. Surrounded by majestic mountains and lush greenery, the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. Whether you’re enjoying a morning coffee on the terrace or taking a leisurely stroll along the nearby river, the picturesque landscape is a constant reminder of the beauty of the Lake District. **Culinary Delights** The dining experience at the Borrowdale is exceptional. The hotel’s restaurant serves a variety of dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, showcasing the best of regional cuisine. Every meal is crafted with care, and the flavors are rich and satisfying. From hearty breakfasts to exquisite dinners, the food is a highlight, ensuring that guests leave with not just full bellies but also fond memories of each dish.
**Room Size** While the views and food are remarkable, the rooms tend to be on the smaller side. For those seeking spacious accommodations, this might be a bit of a drawback. The cozy atmosphere can feel a little cramped, especially for longer stays or if traveling with multiple people. However, the charm of the hotel and the stunning surroundings can somewhat compensate for the limited space.
