Breakfast was great and the location is awesome. The staff is also friendly and helpful.

There was no milk for coffee the second morning in the room. The room was also not freshened up in the afternoons.

Great location, quiet and comfortable. Delicious breakfast, and a very nice surprise to find our car washed ready for our day of travelling…

The room fridge was turned off for our late arrival so no opportunity for a cold drink.

Ontbijt is allemaal van het goedkoopste. Er lag 2 schellen salami en de kaas die er lag werd terug genomen van buffetje voor een eieren bereiding.

We found Rothman Manor to be a very gracious home: immaculate, with great attention to detail. We could not fault the bedroom and en-suite bathroom. And finding our car had been washed and cleaned in preparation for our departure was a pleasant surprise that we really appreciated. Having stayed at many guesthouses over the years, Rothman Manor stands out for us as exceptional - a destination to which we look forward to returning, and one we will happily recommend to others.

We had no complaints at all.

A very enjoyable stay in a magnificent B&B. The two rooms we had were fantastic, particularly the King Suite which I booked for our friends. It had everything one needs for an enjoyable stay and the room we had was very, very cozy with excellent amenities. The breakfast we had was really good with an excellent selection of dishes. The staff were very friendly and in fact waited for us to arrive with a late check-in. They still took their time in explaining everything to us. If you are in the area, I can sincerely recommend Rothman Manor.

Beautiful house and garden, idea for a stop over

We organized a late check in and Johan was still there waiting for us and took us around the facility and explained how everything worked in the two rooms we booked. The King Suite was amazing and exceptional value for what it delivered and the room we were in was also very comfortable and had all the mod cons and was very cozy. The breakfast was very good and the service excellent. We will definitely return some day.

Het is een bijzonder huis. De dieren in de achtertuin en de jacuzzi zijn erg leuk. Ook werden onze kleren gewassen voor €13 (het waren drie plastic zakjes vol)

Het is wat gedateerd en kitch ingericht. Wij zaten in de grotere kamer/appartement met keuken, maar in die keuken ontbraken een hoop dingen (bestek incompleet, geen bakpan, geen scherpe messen om dingen te snijden of snijplank), dus de meerprijs van het appartement vond ik het niet waard.

Nous avons passé une seule nuit dans la chambre la plus basique Cane. (Celle à côté de Africa) Au vu des nombreux commentaires élogieux j'y suis allé les yeux fermés... Dès que nous sommes rentrés on nous a prévenu que la salle de bain devait être repeinte et qu'il y avait des taches de moisi....ce qui n'explique pas qu'on ne puisse pas les nettoyer et passer un coup de chiffon avant dessus !! Autre chose,la bouilloire ne fonctionnait pas! nous avons dû la débrancher pour la mettre sur une autre prise cela n'est pas normal ! La lampe de chevet était tout le temps en train de vaciller la lumière s'éteignait et se rallumait.. mais mon dieu changez moi cette lampe !! Les petits rideaux occultants en métal complètement pliés...mais nous sommes dans un 5 étoiles ou pas ?? Des taches sur le mur pas nettoyées.. sous le lavabo le petit meuble en métal complètement rouillé.. l'évier de la salle de bain bouché ! La brosse des toilettes qui tient sur le tuyau.. des traces sur la housse du matelas.. un seul mug alors que la chambre est prévue pour deux. Et c'est pas fini petit déjeuner désastreux nous sommes arrivés dans les premiers nous avons été servis une demi-heure plus tard !!! J'avais demandé un œuf à la coque et je me suis retrouvé avec un œuf dur immangeable ! Un buffet maigre avec quelques bouts de charcuterie un peu de pain... Il n'a jamais été rechargé... les pauvres gens qui passaient derrière nous n'avait plus rien à manger et surtout ils ne savaient pas qu'ils allaient attendre encore une demi-heure... Nous n'avons même pas été accueilli chaleureusement. la personne de l'accueil/ petit dej nes pas souriante. Le seul bon point va au monsieur qui s'est occupé de nous laver la voiture le matin quelle belle surprise ! S'il vous plaît si vous avez l'intention de louer une chambre ici ne prenez surtout pas la chambre Cane !!!

Our stay was comfortable, relaxing, and just what we needed that day. Great breakfast, service was excellent. Seeing some game( Zebras & Springboks) was a cherry on top.

It was 5 star all the way. The bed was so comfortable, the room was warm and cozy with lots of zones to chill in which was nice after a long drive. The relaxing corner spa bath was definitely a highlight 👌

It’s so characterful, a heritage oasis, in grounds surrounded by nature. It was also just a few minutes walk from Woodpecker Pizza which was fabulous.

There was nothing we didn’t like - the pool obviously isn’t heated so we couldn’t use it during our winter stay but the jacuzzi overlooking a field with sprinkbok and a zebra was hot!

We hadden over gravelwegen gereden waardoor onze auto erg vies was. De volgende ochtend was onze auto gewassen zonder dat we er om gevraagd hadden. Wat een geweldige service!

The room was excellent, everything was clean and worked. The Jacuzzi was awesome. With regards to the breakfast, due to my work I frequent 5 star guesthouses very often and measured to that standard the breakfast is average. We purposefully order different items and I must say that everything was good accept for the Avo Toast which was very basic and just not what you would expect from a 5 star establishment.

Basically every was good and up to standard. One small thing if I had to point out something is the quality of the steak knives that was on the table fro breakfast, they are just weak and very poor quality.

We had a great stay, in beautiful rooms. The staff was lovely to deal with. The breakfast was amazing. Highly recommend a stay here 😊

No fireplaces, electric mattresses, coffeemaker in room, and breakfast could have more variety. Also no shower wash in my room and when brought in an unmarked plastic container. Not what I expected from a five star establishment.

Helaas zaten er mensen zonder manieren onder ons, die het leuk vonden om heel veel lawaai te maken in 23:00 en ‘s ochtends met ontbijt was het alles behalve rustig want een groep van 9 man schreeuwde alles bij elkaar

A very well appointed, clean and comfy room. We arrived in cold and rainy conditions and the underfloor heating and heated towels in the bathroom were very comforting. The bed was very comfy with good linen. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed a warm and cosy overnight stay.

Schöne Anlage und warmer Jacuzzi. Zimmer in Ordnung und sauber. Auto war bei der Abreise gewaschen.

Für 5 Sterne und eine so kleine Anlage war es sehr unpersönlich, es gab fast keinen Service. Generell haben wir uns gefragt, was hier die 5 Sterne rechtfertigt. Das Bett hat etwas gemuffelt. In Swellendam konnte man nicht viel machen (kann das Hotel nichts dafür).

Stayed here for 1 night and we wished we were staying for more. Beautiful rooms, and grounds, staff very friendly and helpful, and fantastic restaurant next door. Absolutely loved our visit and hope to be back one day.

Lekker ontbijt en een goede tussenstop als je de Garden route rijdt.

De kamer was klein en wij vonden het geen 5 sterren hotel voor wat wij gewend zijn. Kamers waren gedateerd.

Accommodatie ligt net iets buiten het 'centrum' van Swellendam, maar dat weet je als je dit boekt. Gastheer was (net als het andere personeel) zeer vriendelijk, en regelde zelfs voor ons een tafeltje bij een Italiaans restaurant vlakbij. Dat was erg fijn, want het was best druk. Mooie, ruime kamer met uitzicht op de tuin/zwembad. Prima ontbijt; deels buffet en deels op bestelling. Ook leuk dat er o.a. springbokken en een zebra zijn. En wat een verrassing dat onze auto vlak voor vertrek compleet werd gewassen.

Wie schon beim letzten Mal alles perfekt. Wir haben die Suite Afrika bekommen, einfach traumhaft. Super Service zum rund um wohlfühlen.

Herrliches Hotelareal! Die Zimmer hübsch eingerichtet im Safari Stil, der Pool direkt vor der Tür. Besonders genossen haben wir den Whirlpool mit Blick auf das Tiergehege. Der Garten wirkte sehr gepflegt uns hübsch angelegt. Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr nett und freundlich. Cool fanden wir, unser Auto völlig unerwartet bei Abreise von außen frisch gereinigt vorzufinden.

Kleinschalig Boutique hotel met goede parking. Auto werd zonder te vragen door het personeel gewassen (wat enorm prettig was). Ontbijt is goed. Personeel is vriendelijk. Zwembad was oké.

Dit voelt niet als een 5 sterren hotel. Eerder een 3 sterren hotel. Kamers zijn verouderd, waarbij met name de badkamers gedateerd zijn. Verder is het een prima doorreishotel, maar niet om langer te verblijven. Let goed op het aantal personen. Wij boekten voor 2 volwassenen en 2 kinderen, maar uiteindelijk stond er maar 1 bed. De volgende gelukkig opgelost met een extra (mobiel) bed wat erbij geplaatst werd.

Wir hatten einen rundum wunderbaren Aufenthalt und haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt. Die Zimmer sind zwar etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber sehr liebevoll und stilvoll eingerichtet. Besonders schön war die persönliche Führung über das Anwesen beim Check-in. Das absolute Highlight war das Zebra im Garten, das ganz nah an einen herankommt. Außerdem wurde unser sehr dreckiges Auto einfach ohne Nachfrage gewaschen – ein wirklich toller Service. Auch das Frühstück war hervorragend, besonders das Omelett war eines der besten, das wir je gegessen haben. Das gesamte Team war unglaublich freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir würden die Unterkunft jederzeit weiterempfehlen.

The welcome by the host was wonderful and included a comprehensive tour of the grounds and facilities. The setting of the hotel is beautiful, with extensive grounds and some wild-life, gardens, pool etc. Al the staff were extremenly friendly and the breakfast was extensive and delecious. Overall a great place to stay in Swellendam.

The promximity to the main road meant there was a bit of road noise in the grounds but the rooms were quiet a night.

It was a wonderful place, nice and quiet, with a beautiful garden and a lovely small pool. We were lucky that there were hardly any other people, so we had the whole place to ourselves. It was also great that there were some animals walking around in the garden. A perfect spot to stay for a night while traveling onward.

We hadden 2 kamers voor een gezin van 5 geboekt maar er was ruimte voor 4. Volgens booking.com mocht onze 17 jarig op de kamer maar dit was niet het geval. Het werd uiteindelijk opgelost maar gaf wel irritatie en stress. Volgens de accommodatie was Booking.com het probleem waar wij de dupe van waren.

Super tolle Location. Freundliches Personal. Tiergehege mit Zebra und Springböcken auf dem parkähnlichen Anwesen. Alles sehr sauber.

Loved the room decor and set up. The patio outside the living room area was wonderful.to relax at after a long days drive. The bathroom was large and it was great to take a luxury bath with bath salts provided.

After walking 5 mins in the garden (long trousers and socks), we had 20 tick bites each! Watch out when you stay there in the tick season! Also, the omelet was quite fatty (too much oil)

Booked the hotel via booking.com which ended up in the smallest single bed room on the property so suggest you first check with the establishment which room you will be allocated. Also the wildlife on the property on 3 acres which is in my opinion should not be permitted given the terrain that they are accustomed too Disappointed having suggested my group book this establishment

Prettige ontvangst, vriendelijk personeel. Een ruime kamer die van alle gemakken voorzien is. Ze hebben een prachtige goed verzorgde tuin, en ook het zwembad en jacuzzi zijn mooi en goed onderhouden. Voor deze laatste is alles geregeld (handdoeken, badjassen). Ontbijt is goed (ruim voldoende keuze en lekker). De host had voor ons gereserveerd bij het restaurant ernaast, wat op loopafstand ligt.

Bedden waren iets aan de zachte kant.

After a warm, friendly welcome, we enjoyed settling in to a comfortable room where all the little extras guests might need had been thought of. The garden and pool area were very pleasant and breakfast was an exceptional spread.

The whole manor was very well kept, the grounds and pool area were great, staff really friendly, room very clean and well equipped......everything guests could need at a B and B had been thought of. Breakfast, was an absolutely amazing spread.

There was nothing to dislike about it.

Das einzige, was mich etwas gestört hat, war, dass im Pool meistens der Reinigungsroboter lief und der einen großen Schlauch an der Oberfläche hinter sich her zog. Konnte man nicht gut ins Wasser.... c

Schön eingewachsener, großer Garten. Mitten in Swellendam, aber trotzdem im Grünen.

Schöner Pool. Leider ist der Reinigungsroboter mit langem Schlauch 24/7 am Arbeiten.

Wir hatten eine Suite direkt am Pool. Die Suite war sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet und seht geräumig. Die Terrasse mit Blick auf den Pool lädt zum Entspannen ein. Am Pool gibt es ausreichend Liegen und das Frühstück wurde auf einer sehr schönen Terrasse serviert. Am Morgen wurde mein Auto vom Personal gewaschen :) Die Unterkunft liegt etwas außerhalb vom Ort, man benötigt ein Auto oder ein Taxi.

We were treated to an abundance of lovely wildlife right from our windows and during gentle walks around the grounds: birdsong at dawn, springbok grazing in the feild, and even the occasional hadeda gracing the lawns. It felt like a peaceful escape into nature and relax by the pool without sacrificing comfort. The hospitality was genuinely warm and attentive—the staff anticipated every need with a personal touch, making us feel truly welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. Breakfasts were a highlight each morning: wholesome, hearty, and bursting with variety. They offered a generous spread of local delicacies, from freshly baked breads and pastries to farm-fresh eggs, artisanal cheeses, homemade preserves, and seasonal fruits sourced nearby. Options included classic full English elements alongside lighter choices like yogurt with local honey and granola - all prepared with care and bursting with flavor. It was the perfect way to start the day, feeling nourishing and indulgent at the same time. Overall, this manor house delivered a perfect blend of historic elegance, natural beauty, and heartfelt service. We’d return in a heartbeat for another restorative getaway. Highly recommended!

Die Anlage besteht aus mehreren ehemligen Herrenhäuser. Diese sind in einem wunderbaren parkähnlichen Garten eingebettet. Wirklich beeindruckend schön. Es gibt einen whirlpool und ein gutes Schwimmbecken. Unsere Unterkunft hatte noch einen sehr schönen kleinen Bauerngarten mit Sitzgelegenheit vor der Haustüre. Gute Restaurants in wenigen Autominuten erreichbar. Die Mitarbeiter sind freundlich.

We had such a lovely stay at Rothman Manor with our two children (6 and 3) for 3 nights. We were greeted and given a tour around the ground by Johan. Our room was spacious, clean, with a lovely patio overlooking the pond garden area. We had our breakfast on the garden patio at the main house which was beautiful. And a little walk down the garden you could watch a zebra and springboks play around. Swellendam itself is a nice little area to explore. It was such a great start to our holiday. Thank you to all the staff at Rothman Manor, the service was impeccable and you were all so accommodating.
