The standard room decoration was quite tired and rooms above the bistro are noisy late into the evening. The deluxe room was quiet and the decor was less tired.

The bed awful I previously stayed in the new extension. I had a what seemed like a new mattress and a great shower . This time the room was tired in the older main building . The expel air didn't work and I couldn't fit into the shower over the bath . 6ft 2 16st a walk in shower would have been better . The second mornings breakfast .. Wrong order and not great . Although the previous was good and cooked to order ! There was a big coach load of people and that could have been a factor . Traffic loud in the morning at the front . Although if you shut the window it's ok

Decent breakfast, though a little stodgy and over priced. Room was nice, though no fan. Bed was comfy, but the duvet too thick for summer months.

A bathtub was a pleasant surprise. The view from the window was over trees and greenery. Nice bar area

Quite a few steps to get into the hotel with luggage. The night manager did not explain our route to the room properly, which was through the restaurant into a lift marked "for staff only".

Very, very dated. Desperately in need of an upgrade. I can see that some areas, such as bathrooms, have been refurbished. No lifts. The stair carpets were dirty and the stairwells smelt really damp. Bedroom was clean but again very dated carpets and furniture.

Shower didnt work no hot water!

I had a issue with my room being 2 single beds instead of a double the lovely lady on reception in the evening was very helpful and moved my room, her excellent customer service really made a difference, the breakfast was excellent and the sausages were especially delicious. Overall, I had a very enjoyable stay and would happily return.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the space felt very relaxed, which is good when you are travelling alone.

The bed was not the most comfortable I have slept in, but it was OK. My meal again was OK, but not excellent.

Not the cleanest, breakfast was not the best plus waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for it to be served but they did refund our price for the breakfast

Yes I know we are experiencing very hot weather, however when the Hotel could not even locate an electric fan, I found that very poor. I did manage to get one in the room on second day. The room also suffered from direct hot bright sunshine pouring in all day, so the room became a furnace. which also affected the corridor. things outside the Hotel did call down both nights, however as per good old health and safety the window only open a fraction. The room would have certainly cooled down had the hotel been able to show a flexible attitude. what about my human rights to a restful night!!!!!!!!!

Good location as we have family in the area. Plenty of things to walk to in Whickham village and close to motorway

It is a little dated and one off putting thing is the smokers area is located right outside the entrance to the hotels ‘front desk’. It isn’t something you want to walk through when arriving at a hotel

Breakfast was great, excellent choice cooked to perfection, staff very friendly comfortable room with just the right space

Times for room service were very limited which was an inconvenience as I had to stay alone with our dog as he opened the doors when I tried to go to breakfast

Staff were lovely. Breakfast exceptional....we are in the restaurant on the night and the food was excellent.

Rooms are tired and need a revamp

Staff were welcoming and helpful on arrival, and throughout our stay. The room was warm, the mattress was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was good, served by friendly staff in a comfortable, bright, nicely decorated room. We enjoyed a delicious evening meal on both evenings, but weren't told that the kitchen closed at 8.15, however, staff obliged by serving our desserts after the closing time, which we appreciated. There was plenty of coffee, tea and milk in the room, and packs of biscuits, shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom, two large towels and two hand towels, and a bath mat to step out onto.

A non slip mat for inside the bath would have been useful. A warning should be given that there are no lifts within the hotel, and that there is a long flight of steps for access from outside to reception. It would have been useful to have been given two cards to access the room. We were surprised that there was no USB socket in the room, luckily we had packed a mains adaptor to enable us to recharge our phones. There was no way that the kettle would fit under the tap to fill, we used a cup to pour water in.

Toilets need updating.

The bed was big and comfy. The room was clean. The staff are professional and friendly. The bar meals were good quality and reasonably priced. The location is excellent for shopping at the Metro centre, it bussing into Newcastle.

All was good.

Stay in junior suite, there were no power sockets beside the bed. Had to charge phones miles away. Room service didnt pickup when using phone. Had to talk upstairs to main bar.

Bed comfortable, room large, nice bathroom. Fantastic bar on site, friendly site. We didn't eat there on this occasion but food looked great. We visit Gateshead a few times a year and will definitely use this hotel in future.

No lift. Room was dated. Found a plastic bag over the smoke alarm and a screw in the shower so you could switch it on.

Heated towel rail was on full blast continuously but couldn't find a switch to turn it off .. room was like a furnace 😂. Had to borrow a fan from reception

Access via steps difficult for older people , lack of lift facilities. Room was ok but lighting poor unable to read easily - bed lamps on headboard really poor and recessed down lighting poorly positioned. Need grab rail in shower/ bath location? The pillows were really solid in fact hard so very uncomfortable .

The radiator in the room was on full blast and turning the thermostat down didn’t work…. The window only opens a crack so was a pretty uncomfortable sleep, other than that we had a nice stay

Service at breakfast was poor, bap was hard, toast served about 10-15 minutes before breakfast so was cold when breakfast came out.
