The staff were really friendly. We had a lovely room and the food was really good
We stayed for two nights to see an ‘Amy Winehouse’ tribute singer in Carlisle town centre. Absolutely everything! The staff, Sam, Emma, chef ,and the team of guys were exceptional! The locals were so friendly and the rooms were absolutely fantastic with the most comfortable beds we’ve slept on! Breakfast absolutely delicious as was the evening meal!!!! Thank you guys!!! We hope to be back soon!

Amazing staff.
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The meals were amazing, what a fabulous chef! Colin, our host, has done a beautiful job decorating this beautiful inn, there are so many special touches. We stayed here for two nights and genuinely did not want to leave.
Really friendly staff, and a really friendly warm atmosphere. The breakfast is delicious too.
Ambiance pub, personnel tres sympa, deco superbe.
Pub/restaurant excellent Breakfast excellent. Sam and staff excellent Price fair.
Basic rooms are pretty small, but that’s reflected in the price.
Very comfortable and easy parking. Great breakfast restaurant in the morning
Fabulous food. Friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable.

Food was good and the waitress working that night was absolutely brilliant. Very welcoming and funny and looked after us perfectly.

Booked last-minute while on a road trip around England, and was in the family studio, as it was the last room left. Was traveling alone, but it would have a been a great setup for anyone traveling with a family. There was a living room area and a small kitchen counter with a sink out in the room. Also, the restaurant was fantastic - get the steak pie! Both dinner/dessert and breakfast were two of the best meals I had in my 2.5 week UK trip. Parking was easy; plenty of space, and was able to roll my luggage right into the studio room - no elevator needed. Nice peaceful location out in the country.
Huge bathroom, but wish it had more counter space and more hooks to hang toiletry bags!
Personnel formidable.
Rien.
Fab 17th century inn, such a cosy feel throughout. Room was clean and nicely presented. Staff were absolutely fab! Possibly the best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had, couldn’t fault our stay!

Nice room, nice food, great staff
Absolutely spotless with superb amenities. Spacious room with immaculate fixtures and furnishings.
Staff were brilliant
Steep stairs
Plenty of free parking in the car park next to the accomodation . The area felt very safe. Approx 10 mins from M6 so very convenient. Bar area/Dining areas very comfortable/sociable. Food and staff were exceptional. Beds very comfortable.

Great food, great service.
We were travelling from Scotland and booked to stay for one night. Just about 5 miles from the M6. Set in a lovely village which felt safe which is important as we were travelling on motorcycles. Plenty of on site parking.
All good
Breakfast, weekend breakfast started at 8. We popped in to grab coffee but had to leave at 8, staff insisted we took takeaway sandwiches. Excellent staff, would return just for that
Food was excellent breakfast and evening meals in the on site restaurant.
Character property. Good sized & well maintained rooms. Plenty of parking.
No fruit and yoghurt selection
Gorgeous 17C inn. Staff super friendly and helpful. Breakfast amazing! Place is spotlessly clean and bedrooms so quaint!

Peaceful
Bed too soft, as were the pillows. Thought the drinks expensive.
Room size, friendly staff, cosy pub with great food
Pub area is quite small
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is set in a beautiful location, and the rooms were very nice. The restaurant served great food, and the breakfast was delicious. We would happily stay here again. B
Very friendly staff, very old, quaint pub with very comfy beds

Nice location, very quiet on a night, nice look and feel.
No dinners were served on the day we stayed, bank holiday sunday night. Resulting in inconvenience. The full english breakfast was extremely small.
Breakfast dinner the bar the locals
I thought the room was smaller that previous
We loved the history of the place. It’s in a quiet little village. We really enjoyed our meal at night and the breakfast was really good too. The bed was really comfortable.
Their was nothing to dislike.

Lovely old inn, friendly staff, large room and bathroom. Food in restaurant and breakfast was excellent. Would stay there again.
Very comfortable and attractive room and a fine dinner in the pub. Friendly staff.
The location of the inn is beautiful and close to many attractions. A simple 2h walk around the area is sufficient to create a sensation of wellbeing. The room was large with a large bathroom, which boasted a separate shower and a large bathtub. The bed was large enough for both of us and the temperature was kept comfortable. The restaurant is a great find - it doesn't have a large menu, but what it has is excellent - good taste and quality ingredients. The wine selection is also not large but of good taste and pairs up well with the menu selections. I only tasted a stout in terms of beers, but it was a good one. The breakfast was included and we had a menu to choose from - wide selection, something for everyone and every kind of morning.
The room soundproofing is not of good quality. Luckily the neighbours were not raucous. The room lacks an additional chair for the vanity - it only has one chair for a 2 people room. The wifi had personality - meaning that sometimes it worked in bed and sometimes it worked at the window or at the bathroom instead of being available all throughout the room. While the food was great, the portion size is on the large side - I would have preferred an option for a medium size portion, so as not to waste food.
Tout était parfait. Personnel adorable, chambre sublime, restaurant délicieux.
Good hotel with great staff and food.
Nothing.
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, very comfortable bed and amazing room
Breakfast was a little small and not much in the way of wifi or signal
Mostly everything - food & staff were very good
The dining area is connected to the bar which was a little bit noisy. Not a real problem however as we were set a table elsewhere.
The inn was an excellent place to stay on our way up and down to Scotland. Staff were friendly, meals great, good bar and rooms comfortable.
Everything. It was very clean very cozy and classic.

Everything. Colin and the girl at breakfast (sadly didnt catch her name) were so warm. Welcoming and so friendly. Colin before arrival let me know the restaurant wasnt open on Sundays and kindly sent me a few recommendations for dinner. He was very chatty and welcoming. Our room (3) was gorgeous so cosy, amazing bed, nicely decorated and had such a lush bathroom. 😍 breakfast was also really good too, they had such a lovely wee sitting area for breakfast! ❤️ the scenery was also beautiful, gorgeous wee beer garden and out door decken area. The country side was so pretty too. we went for a lovely walk! Met some of the locals too! ❤️ We had an amazing night sleep I didnt want to get up! 😴 🛌 ❤️
Nothing tbh! Just the bacon at breakfast could of been cooked slightly longer, but thats maybe just personal preference.
Friendly staff. Comfortable rooms and beds Exceptionally clean bathroom Great menu in restaurant

A bit hot and sticky in the room, a fan would have been good, but we brought one, so it was ok.
Wonderful quiet location and convenient to the M6. Room was comfortable, staff could not have been more welcoming and the food was delicious.
All good
Delightful pub with caring and helpful staff and lovely food

Can't rate String of Horses highly enough. Great staff who were extremely welcoming, friendly and provided great service. The rooms were charming, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Breakfast and our evening meal were both superb. There were 10 of us who stayed here as a family and not one of us had a negative thing to say about it. We would highly recommend this place to anyone.
No negative comments to say about our stay here at all.
Really lovely property.
Really nicely decorated and maintained rooms.
Very friendly staff and a nice venue, room was very goog nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable!!

Everything the staff the food and the rooms
The location was a bit tucked away from anywhere but saying that it was lovely and quiet
alles was ok.
Full of character, easy parking, helpful welcoming staff, lovely big stylish room with great bed and bathroom, excellent breakfast.
We were unavoidably delayed in arriving and so were going to be too late to eat in the Inn - had to buy ( not very good) sandwiches and crisps from coop- would have been lovely if there’d been a possibility of a nice cold supper being on offer for late arrivals.
Heel lekker en typisch regionaal doch innovatief ontbijt. Typische 'inn', heel gezellig en rustiek.

Everything was comfortable and food good for an overnight stop off
Sam was outstanding! She did everything from greet me at Reception, worked on the Bar + Restaurant and serving breakfast in the morning. She always had a smile on her face + time to chat to the customers - she is awesome.
The shower wasn't good - no water pressure + lukewarm. Breakfast was a bit greasy

Old building so creaky floors
Clean & Quiet
Staff extremely helpful and welcoming
Breakfast was amazing we had two kids with us the chef catered to them brilliant service
Bed wasn't very comfy
Nice location and clean.
The room was too small with no furniture in the room.
It was very comfortable. The rooms were lovely and it was an ideal position for us to travel on next day. The food and staff were great
Everything! We only stayed for one night but it was absolutely lovely. The building is quaint but well updated with modern comforts. The beds were incredibly comfortable and I loved that all 4 pillows varied in thickness and firmness, making it easy to choose the right one for my own personal preferences. The dinner was the best meal we’ve had since arriving in England 3 weeks ago.
The wifi was quite patchy in room 10, which is the furthest away room. May have been a bit of a bother if I had been staying longer.
L'ambiance .
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice room and bathroom. Nice breakfast, great choices. May I suggest a better quality loo roll ! Not a complaint, just an observation. :)
A lovely place to stay. Nice and quiet, lovely rural setting. Great room, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Huge bathroom. Would definitely use again as a stop over.
Although we knew in advance that the restaurant was no available on a Sunday, it was a shame we missed the chance to dinner here, as we have heard excellent reports about the food on offer. So if you want to dine, remember not to book a Sunday night stay.
String of Horses is located in a lovely/small/quiet village. The premises are amazing with quaint features. The bar and restaurant are fabulous and the food was perfect, on both nights. Love the staff.. wish I could bring them home!
There is nothing I could write as a negative.
Everything. Sam was so welcoming and how beautiful a place
It was all good
Heritage, food and staff. Beautiful decor, atmospheric and interesting. Lovely building. Food was excellent quality. Staff were attentive and real. Service excellent. Location quiet but still only a quick car ride from bigger centres.
Pleasant, friendly staff. Good choice on the menu and food really well cooked and prepared.
The selection of beers could have been a little wider. It would be helpful to have room number directions at the top of the stairs, I had a tour of the first floor carrying luggage before I found room 11
Old world charm of this 17th century coaching inn Helpful and attentive staff Good food and drink Well appointed bedroom
Nothing
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The building is a fantastic old inn which has lots of small spaces decorated in keeping with the building. The room was a spacious triple with a large ensuite bathroom. The bedroom, bedding and bathroom were clean and fresh. There was a delicious selection of food available for dinner and at breakfast.
Nothing.
Very comfortable
No food on a Sunday night
Staff very attentive
Steady taking the breakfast order in the morning. but food was good quality
We had a big room -which was great in the hot weather
L’authenticité et la propreté des chambres

Staff contributed to making this a wonderful place to stay and would highly recommend
The standard was exactly the same as in your other branches, so it was predictable. However, there was absolutely nothing that thrilled me or stood out in any way.
It lacks any unique character. It's just a typical chain, and you can't expect anything extraordinary there. On top of that, the breakfasts aren't very tasty. The scrambled eggs are always reheated so much that they are dry as a bone.
