Initially our allocated room had road noise but after we moved unit it was good.

Great location to the city and free parking. Spa pool was great. Electric blanket was great for those cold nights.

Easy check in, parking close to the room. Staff were welcoming, I spoke with a cleaning lady about getting fresh towels the next day she was lovely. Spacious room, I liked the firm bed and pillows. It was an okay stay for us, (husband, 13yr old and I) hubby had to work nearby. This place had what we needed for the 2 nights we stayed. Location was handy and easy to get to. Hubby could park his small work truck onsite at the front while I parked our car there also. We used the heat pump the 1st night expecting it to be cold but 2nd night we didn't, was warm without. Had extra blankets in a cupboard if needed. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate & milk provided. Did have a microwave, a cook top and bar fridge. Shower & toilet were nice & clean, they provide pump soap in the shower and hair wash. Spa pool could be booked privately at 30min time slots, this seamed to be plenty time for a soak the office provides spa towels when picking up the key.

There was a gap at the edge of the wall from the toilet and bathroom areas that joined the kitchen/room area so you can be heard while in the bathroom or toilet, didn't feel that private although there was a door with a lock. Shared spa pool was ok, couldn't get max massage/bubbles was one level. Road noise was loud, could hear it from our room through the night.

Friendly staff, quiet rooms and clean.

We had a wonderful stay here during our family trip. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. They recommended great sightseeing routes, tourist attractions, and excellent local restaurants, which helped us make the most of each day. Their advice made planning our itinerary so much easier and allowed us to explore the area efficiently. The hospitality we received really made a difference and contributed to an amazing travel experience. Thank you to the entire team for making our family trip so memorable.

Clean, calm and nice looking

Location was perfect, staff are just lovely and the room was perfect, bright, spacious and clean. Beds were so comfy. Room had a heat pump, decent sized TV with Sky etc.

Comfy as bed. Great of location but busy street. Bit of traffic noise when door open. Sound proof inside though. Only stayed one night so didn’t do much.

Room had a wet carpet smell initially but seemed to disappear in time.

Hosts were exceptionally friendly gave me lots of advice about restaurant locations. The room was very clean and warm couldn't fault it. I thought the location to the city centre was really good and was very easy to find the motel as I drove into New Plymouth. Motel was well presented from outside grounds and building's well maintained

Only thing I could fault was that the electric blanket only worked on one side . Probably not an issue for most as they wont use an electric blanket. I actually forgot to mention it to the hosts but I know they would have sorted it if I had mentioned it

The room is very spacious and everything well organised with a book with all the informations inside the room.

Had everything we needed for a quick booking. The room was quiet, nice and warm with the heat pump and electric blanket. Front desk was so helpful and welcoming and it was easy peasy to check in.

A little outdated

Le parking est gratuit, face à la chambre. La pièce principale est confortable et bien agencée. Le lit était hyper confortable, un vrai chamallow géant ! Regarder Netflix depuis le lit après une randonnée était très appréciable. La cuisine est suffisamment spacieuse pour préparer des plats simples et très bien équipée en ustensiles. La salle de bain comporte de multiples rangements et d'espaces pour poser ses affaires.

Close to eating establishments

The road, our room was the closest to the busy and noisy road, if we had known we had room 22 we would booked elsewhere. Our suggestion is to turn this room into a games room or else put in triple glazing to see if that helps.

Lovely big newly refurbished unit walking distance to town, waterfront and park.

I really liked the staff - the gentleman that served me was very friendly and helpful on where to grab food, what was available locally wihtin a short distance from the hotel. The room was very comfortable and of good value. I would stay there again. Even being by a main road wasnt too noisey.

A very helpful host - a central location, a guest spa and a laundry. The units were well designed unit including a small kitchenette. Easy parking.

Retro hotel. Biggish but still "tight" room for 3 adults. Picked for lower price. Sunny frontage. Greenery view from the back windows. All very clean.

Just an awareness that you're on a busy street. There is street noise and neighbour's noise.

Right next to a main road didn’t realise how loud it would be could hardly sleep. Notes everywhere saying wash your dishes, do towels, not using lots of water was like staying at home!

So id highly recommend a USB charging plug for people who only bring USB charging cables. Which unfortunately is very very common these days. Other than that this room ticked all the boxes needed for a quick stay. Clean and tidy and very friendly staff.

We stayed at Northgate Motor Lodge over the weekend (Room 17) and it genuinely exceeded my expectations. From the moment we walked in, the room was spotless. Not just “quick tidy” clean — properly clean. The attention to detail was obvious, and everything felt fresh and well looked after. The bed was super comfy — one of those rare motel beds where you actually sleep properly and don’t wake up stiff. Crisp linen, supportive mattress, and just overall very comfortable. Room 17 was quiet, tidy, and had everything we needed for a relaxed stay. It felt practical but still welcoming — not tired or dated. You can tell the owners take pride in maintaining the property. If you’re looking for somewhere clean, comfortable, and reliable to stay in New Plymouth, I would absolutely recommend it. We’d happily stay again.

The Manager was very welcoming and gave us a brief information on what to see and do around New Plymouth. The room was adequate for two of us. The bed was comfortable and nice sheets. It was clean and fresh.
