Breakfast was very good.. bathroom a bit tired. Bed extremely comfortable and plenty of tea coffee and biscuits in the room. Entertainment and option of reasonably priced well cooked evening meal.
Bathroom.
Evening meal was good quality and tasty, beds were comfortable.
Requested a dessert after main meal but it was not ordered by staff, went to ask about it and the staff was full of apologies, by that time we didn't want so drinks were removed from bill, shower power was terrible unless you turned on the cold water more which meant a cold shower, handle on bath was slack, bed lights hung on wall by a block of wood, several paintwork, bathroom seals and tiles require finishing properly. Breakfast service slow, didn't seem to be any order on who is served first, someone came in after us and got served before us, we were finished and a couple were sitting waiting before us and still hadn't been served.
Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed, good shower.
The room was very dated. There was no hairdryer in the room.
Good location and large room/bathroom. This was clearly a grand hotel and is now a bit tired but we quite liked that. Excellent toilet paper, comfotable bed, and breakfast. Welcoming bar.
Nothing really, I would have prefered a separate shower but the one over the bath was fine
Evening staff were very friendly, particularly the lady behind the bar, who was by herself and was extremely busy but still managed to handle our queries about dinner that evening, book us in for breakfast and generally be very helpful about the menu options whilst still serving drinks to about 6 other people. Very lovely impressive lady! The breakfast was very nice, with home made sausage which I thought was a nice touch. We were joined for dinner by a friend of ours who lives locally and is vegan. We were impressed by the vegan choices on the menu and how easy they were to identify as we are all omnivores and have not had to worry about this before. Supper and breakfast were very good.
Our daughter had a lovely room in the old part of the hotel, but ours was a long way from reception and just had a skylight - no outside window at all - and therefore felt claustrophobic. I feel it should have been charged at less than our daughter's pretty room. The shower and bathroom were good, but the mattress was well past it's sell by date and we spent our entire night trying not to fall out of bed as the edges were collapsed. The waitress at breakfast took a long time to take our order.
Het personeel was vriendelijk, goede locatie midden in het centrum. Lekker ontbijt met keuze van de kaart.

Very comfortable and nice friendly staff

Clean. Comfy. Dogs welcome. Great for start of the St Cuthberts Way
Long corridor! Breakfast was overcooked.
Good breakfast, plenty of choice of cooked items, made to order. Central location and lively bar and beer garden. Historic building.
Bedroom and bathroom were dilapidated and in need of complete modernisation. Our room was on second floor with 6 flights of stairs to negotiate with luggage - not easy for elderly or disabled. (No lift). The very small TV in room was not working. No plug in washbasin. Reception unmanned most of the time as receptionist has to double as bar staffer. Room and facilities not worth the amount charged. Foreign tourists will be shocked at the low standard of accomodation being provided for a three figure sum per night excluding breakfast.
Gezellig hotel met goed eten en prima advies over de omgeving.

The tea and coffee facilities in the room were a life saver. Also I liked that I could control the temperature of the room as the window could be opened, and the heated towel rail kept the towels dry. Also the arrangements for breakfast were very flexible which suited me.
Staff were friendly, bar lively
Room tiny, hot and stuffy. Totally different to rooms at the the same price used by other members of the group. Breakfast poor. Woken at 8am on a saturday morning by an hours jetwashing
Never had breakfast but dinner was very good. Excellent location but rooms to the front of the hotel a bit noisy with traffic and people talking/shouting late on a Saturday night.
Disappointed in our room as it was an upgraded room. Toilet needs a refurb especially the floor and sink. Also no hairdryer for my wife, never noticed this until the morning. Hotel in general looking a bit tired. Staff were very good, although they seemed a bit run off their feet multitasking running the bar/reception/dinners/clearing tables etc... Good job done by all the staff 👍
Good breakfast
Friendly and very helpful staff
Perhaps looking a little bit dated and worn down
The breakfast was incredible, and it was a great place to start walking St Cuthbert's Way from.
Whole hotel needs a bit of a re-fresh.

Leckeres Essen , nettes Personal
Leider war die Sicht aus dem Fenster nicht so schön.
Location and parking
It was very cosy and comfortable, located very centrally in Melrose. The breakfast was wonderful, especially the black pudding and haggis!
The only draw back was the lack of sockets. We had two CPAP machines and had to have leads stretched right across the room.
Good location & friendly staff.
Very tired decor throughout. Room was very hot with no proper window, only 2 velux.
Central location. Good food and very friendly and helpful staff.
This place was a little dated but the staff were very friendly. Room size better than expected and a convenient parking area. The breakfast was excellent.
A bit dated
Central
Basic but adequate for needs.
Great pub with rooms

Adequate
I'm not a complainer
Good location in Melrose and convenient for restaurants in town. Staff were friendly.
.It's an old hotel and very much needing some TLC. There's a reason it's only a 2 star hotel. OK for one night, but wouldn't like to stay longer.
Superb location, Good breakfasts; excellent bar with good selection of local food; attentive service
Limited storage space in room for a longer stay
Perfect central location with private car park Excellent breakfast
I didn’t think anything was bad
we didnt stay for breakfast because of the experience with the evenng meal.
poor evening meal,
Great staff. Melrose is a great place to spend a couple of nights. A lovely area.
Hotel is a bit tired but it’s an old building so difficult to “modernize”
Great location, plenty of parking and generally clean. Also piping hot water.
Hotel is very dated and shabby. The lighting is poor and the bed is very uncomfortable. The curtains should be replaced with block out linings as light streamed into the room in the early hours. Also very very noisy.
Good location. Comfortable beds.
Room and hotel need updating. Room arrangement (room18) needs changing. One bed next to the bathroom.
Location and staff couldn’t be more helpful nothing was a problem to them breakfast was first class
Tolle Unterkunft und gutes Restaurant. Ich war sehr zufrieden und würde jederzeit wieder hier buchen ❤️
Trevlig pub och restaurang
Lite dyrt
Lage mitten im Ort. Empfang war derbe aber herzlich. Bar mit guter Bierauswahl und einfachem Speiseangebot.
Badezimmer ist renovierungsbedürftig. Fußboden ist schief. Kleines TV . Wenig Ablagemöglichkeiten.
From the moment I walked into reception, to the time I left, everything and everyone was superb 👌
Nothing.
The hotel is located very conveniently for the event we were attending. The breakfasts were excellent and the evening meals we had were very good. They serve good beers.
I booked through Booking.com and for some reason they messed things up with room details, apparently not for the first time that weekend, so I wont be using them again. I stress, NOT the hotel's fault.
good central location. Warm welcome from staff. Bar staff very engaging. Perfect portion sizes, good choice of menu. Speedy service, cant fault anything.
Just keep doing more of the same
The location was perfect. The room was very clean and comfortable with a kettle and plenty of tea and coffee.
Nothing.
Location, cycling storage, evening meal & ales
Dated rooms although clean & tidy
did exactly what I wanted it to do
athing was fine
The staff members were friendly, warm and helpful.
The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Great location on the High Street. Food was excellent. Spacious room.
No sockets by the beds.
Central
No lift, some rooms very shabby and beds uncomfortable that I had to sleep on floor due to too small double with a large dip in it
Convenient location. Friendly staff. Lovely beer garden. Comfy bed. Hot showers
Decor a bit dated but nothing to complain about
The room was what it was, clean but in need of some TLC the item that would improve it the most was a chair and maybe a foldown table so you had somewhere to sit rather than the bed !
Quality of bedding and towels good..Shower, although a wee bit basic was powerful with lots of hot water... Free parking a bonus.
nothing... We were only there one night and have stayed before so happy with what facilities etc we used...
I have stayed here a few times whilel visiting family. Not too bad. I tend not to have the breakfast- there are other places in town.
The rooms are variable. Ask for the largest ones left - I once had a tiny one.
Good value for a two-night work trip; café serving good breakfasts just opposite, and walking distance from several good restaurants.
Decor was rather tired;
Staff were fantastic. Very good breakfast
Rather tired decor. Unable to open bedroom window in stifling heat.
Close to town
The location and the staff
The dated facilities and mismatched decor
Cheap, cheerful, great staff. Food for the price was really good and breakfast fitted the bill.
Excellent location and our room was particularly well placed for a lovely view of the hills. Friendly and helpful service.
Breakfast was tasty but slightly limited choice. Good value though.
The staff were so friendly and helpful.
No electric sockets next to the beds. £120 for Twin room and breakfast was an extra charge which we skipped.
Fantastic location, staff were so nice and friendly, food was excellent, would definitely stay again.
Nothing to dislike
Clean, comfortable and friendly.
Rooms do with some “refreshing”. My main problem was the noisy dog in room 8 - regular bouts of barking, including in the early hours of the morning and long spells of scrabbling at the floor when it’s owners were not in the room 😒
Lovely staff, very helpful and friendly. Excellent evening meal.
My single room felt in need of TLC and maybe slightly less 'grey' decor. Breakfast was slightly disappointing with overcooked, tasteless scrambled eggs.
Central location and staff friendly. Car parking available.
Hotel is tired and really needs refurbished. Room was basic, TV tiny and mould around bath. Bathroom door didn't close. Carpet on stairs worn.
I had a lovely night stay linked to the rugby club - it was close and perfect for one night
Excellent location. Lovely bar. Live music Friday night was excellent. Good food. Really nice staff. Nice beer garden.
Nothing
Very comfortable bed, and hotel centrally located, good parking.
My only criticism is that the lighting in my bedroom was very poor, with a poor bedside light, and weak overhead light - not good if you are trying to read - I gave up! Room was number 14
Full Scottish Breakfast was excellent with good selection of teas and coffee. Bedroom was comfortable and tea making facility with snacks included in price. Excellent shower.
Main areas are a little dated but were very clean so not a problem for us.
Nice bar and meals were good
Noise from other bedrooms
Breakfast was poor quality. Building is delapidated and requires refurbishment.
Friendly, helpful staff. Clean comfortable room. Good food.
Ensuite was rather outdated but plenty of hot water. No chairs in the bedroom.
Good location in the centre. Nice old fashioned Hotel perfectly comfortable. Good value and great breakfast.best haggis ever.
Maybe a little tired....and no hairdryer...
Friendly staff, good cask ale.
Small single bed. Cold bathroom without heat.
Good location, cozy over night stay. Overall happy with it.
I booked this room for my friend and her pets for two nights and from booking to staying and then collecting her when she checked out, everything was made so easy. My questions were answered so quickly and I asked if she could check in early and the staff very quickly got back to me and said no problem. The staff we lovely, the person at the desk who I met when I came in to collect my friend and her belongings was so kind and so helpful to us both. I cannot speak more highly of the staff and the whole experience. The price was incredibly reasonable and the fact that pets are welcome is brilliant, it took so much stress out of the situation and the hotel itself had such a nice atmosphere.
There was nothing I didn't like. Everything was exactly what was needed and then some.
The location is fantastic! You're in the heart of Melrose so you can easily walk to the Abby (maybe a 4 min walk) and all of the shops and restaurants. The hotel's pub was also nice. It had live music the Saturday night we were there, and we really enjoyed it. The parking is also excellent and very easy. Some of the folks who worked there were very nice.
The hotel is on the older side and a bit run down. The room we stayed looked a bit...tired. Our bathroom was a little challenging. The toilet seat was sort of broken, and there were no grip bars or safety mats in the shower. In general, I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you have any mobility issues. There is no elevator, and the bathroom isn't fall-safe. Also, outlets for charging phones/devices were not super easily accessible.
