Provider-sourced guest reviews.
I absolutely loved the whole place. The beautiful Victorian look and atmosphere made it feel so special, and even the grounds were amazing, with wild rabbits and beautiful wood pigeons wandering around. The restaurant is stunning, the breakfast was absolutely amazing, and the staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. Overall, we had such a lovely experience and I would definitely come back again.
Honestly, nothing. We had a lovely stay from start to finish and couldn’t fault anything. Everything exceeded our expectations.
Struttura spettacolare ed originale in un bellissimo contesto. Tutto perfetto, anche L’afternoon tea
The room was nice and cosy and clean and restaurant was lovely
The hotel needs new carpets in rooms and in the corridor areas, the extra charge for the car park is very expensive for customers staying one night, the food was lovely but the duck salad could of had more salad bits to it instead of having a very big plate full of watercress in adding a service charge to the food bill should be optional, charging £19 for the duck salad which contained a bag full of watercress is not reasonable, you could give longer to the paying customer to check out then 10.30 or to check in earlier than 3pm to be able enjoy the stay at the hotel
Period hotel and had beautiful
Not very clean, carpets heavily stained. Broken fixtures in the rooms and lack of care
Very interesting architecture and well designed rooms

Cadre exceptionnel d'une ancienne abbaye réaménagée et remeublèe superbement. Le personnel est très sympathique, les chambres sont grandes et superbes. On y mange vraiment très bien. C'est une expérience incroyable pour un prix très raisonnable. Bravo
I was surprised that I had to pay for parking 12£ per night.
Paying for car park it annoyed me so much I refused to eat / drink anything there . It left me a bed taste charging for the car park.
Great location set in the grounds of a 500 acre estate which is beautifully managed, great for strolling and taking in the sights and sounds of nature in an exceptionally well maintained setting steeped in history, the place where the gunpowder plot was hatched, has a very traditional theme, very Harry Potter in its styling
The facility was excellent as the location, was asked if I wanted an upgrade but wasn't required as our room was wonderful. Very clean and tidy with outstanding staff always wanting to help. This was our 1st wedding anniversary and we will be back again.
Nothing bad to say, everything excellent
It’s beautiful appearance and location.
Unusual smell in entrance way. Quite dark.
Large spacious room in annexe. Fairly comfortable. Quirky campaign furniture. Victorian stately home ethos.
Long walk to get to bedroom, in the rain. No umbrellas. Evidence of lack of thought and arrogance. I.e. Poor signage. No thermostats evident on taps. AC maintaining about 24c, ie cooling not working. No power outlets near beds, only at desk. Bedside lights switched with main lights, so overbright or dark, no in between. Very strange design decisions for a 2009 building. Pretentious without substance.
The room was beautiful. The bathroom and the room were both very spacious. We enjoyed walking around the interiors and exteriors. Everything was interesting and beautiful. The breakfast was lovely, the conservatory is a pretty area for the breakfast. We very much enjoyed our stay.
There is no information about disability parking. But they let us park in the courtyard for a while to get our luggage to our room. My husband parked the car in the parking area, which is too far away for a person with mobility issues. We could manage this because it's the two of us, but if you're alone, you may need to contact them first about how to deal with parking accessibilty. The buildings had several ramps, a handicap toilet on the ground floor and there was a lift for both buildings.
Excellent lovely hotel with lots of charm.

Close to the Mama Mia event. Very smart and welcoming.
The bedroom was too dark and the breakfast was not very well cooked.
Such a characterful hotel. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely. The grounds are perfect for a nice walk.
The room was stunning, the staff were amazing.
The room was spacious and the staff was really friendly.
Around the bath had mold starting to come through. Couldn't use the bath, because the handle wouldn't switch from shower to bath. So it couldn't be filled. Just needs a little TLC.

We booked a deluxe double room for my 26th birthday and got upgraded to the lake view room. The room was beautiful, completely surprised us when we opened the door. We had an amazing view of the lake and the grounds, settling down in such a beautiful room made my birthday feel even more special.
The hotel and surrounding gardens were beautiful; the downstairs was stunning and so unusual with the beauty of the monastery still visible.
Going upstairs and onto the first floor was very dated and worn out, the carpets were faded and threadbare in some places, the lift interior was shockingly bad and in desperate need of decoration and a good clean. The decor in the bedroom was in need of a paint job but the room was clean and bed very comfy. Bathroom clean and serviceable. The outside seating area could do with an upgrade as a mix of grass and dirt. Restaurant chairs very stained and looked like needed a good clean. What the hotel lacked in general maintenance it made up for in quirkiness and polite and very well dressed staff. We had a lovely stay of one night and the fact we didn’t pay the earth made it all worth it. The hotel could be spectacular with a little investment but it is tired and shoddy upstairs.
Love the feeling of the place and decor. Smells amazing. Very good food. Evening meal was excellent. Feels very relaxed. A must do is Abbey Punts with Anthony - he is amazing and it’s a fabulous experience.
Breakfast in the morning is buffet. The selection is excellent. However it’s in a side room within the restaurant. Gets very busy with queues and people knocking into each other. Makes it feel like an all inclusive on holiday. Not a 5 star hotel experience. No one told us for a supplement we could get table service. Now I take some responsibility here on the table there is a menu that explains it, if I had bothered to read it. However I would have thought in a hotel of this standing it would have been standard. Or at least been explained to us when we were seated.
Property and location lovely

Everything stunning inside and out best hotel I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to a lot
Wasn’t nothing I disliked it’s beautiful
Great value for the price we paid. Good restaurant on site with excellent service.
All good.
Location. The building looked amazing and the contents were in keeping for the period of the building , staff were attentive and were cheerful at all times considering 2 weddings and a banquet for 500 over the weekend they all had happy smiling faces and nothing was a problem so credit to them. Food was enjoyable both A la carte and breakfast.
Bathroom light did not work over the mirror and dressing table poor bearing in mind we were attending a black collar tie event.
Good breakfast
The quality of the food and drink was very good. The Garden style restaurant was pleasant and light. The main reception areas were atmospheric of days of old.
If I had to be picky, the reception area was dark and the main stairs carpet had seen better days.
Lovely staff and nothing too much trouble. A special thank.you to ruby the restaurant manager.
Everything it was fabulous, felt very 'special' staying here was a treat.
There was nothing I could say, glass of sangria on terrace, fab, evening meal, fab. Breakfast is self service but still excellent with food replenished regularly and plenty of it.
Beautiful spacious period room
The most beautiful hotel set in the most beautiful grounds. The staff are absolutely amazing. The food is excellent.Had the fantastic Sunday lunch inspired afternoon tea which was divine. Had a room upgrade which was well worth the upgrade bid we placed. Would definitely revisit.
There is nothing that I’d didn’t like about this hotel.
Well, we had an upgrade to a large room with 4 poster bed so everything was bound to be great after that. Loved the doves cooing above our window! Was attending a group reunion lunch which was excellent
TV remote control wouldn't switch it off.
Absolutely stunning building. The staff were so friendly.
Grounds Exterior Building
Beds too small in double rooms Expected to pay extra for a normal bed for a average size couple Stains on the carpet all throughout the hotel. Loose taps in bathroom. Tired and old interior Too expensive breakfast and if you don’t book at check in, 10 minutes later it’s three pounds more. Customer have to pay parking extra
The ambiance and atmosphere

The history and the food
The entire property needs a good refurb. Stained and damaged carpets everywhere. Chipped paint everywhere. Dark and dingy, the only smiles we got were from the lady on reception and the head waitress. The place seems to trade on its longstanding reputation but a lot of guests remarked how it had gone downhill since they were last there. A glass got broken at breakfast and no one guarded it while a waiter went for a dustpan which resulted in me walking through it and treating large pieces of glass everywhere. I won’t be returning until I know the place has been refurbished.
Everything
When I pre ordered a bottle of wine then to be told you had run out of the wine I wanted. I was then sold a more expensive one just to find out when we went into the bar you had plenty that was out of order, the bar and the restaurant bar are one of the same. I am aware this practice goes on in other establishments but I didn't expect it at Coome Abbey.
This time nothing we was treated like dirt
I booked to stay in the main hotel for the experience ect instead they charge me double for what it said on booking they didn’t give me my £70 deposit back for the room they made us pay on arrival everyone else was asked do the want it on there room or pay now. Me and my partner was made to pay for everything on the spot we was put in a corner for dinner while all the “upper class” was seated al on the other side with good views and to top it off we was put in the new building at the back ! Absolutely disgusting staff I seen the bar staff stick his fingers in a cocktail joking with another team member to do it again. Do not waste your money go to somewhere that welcomes you not treat you like dirt.
Stunning venue for a wedding Beautiful accommodation with old antique furniture and original features Lovely grounds Will look forward to returning

The setting and ambience were exceptional. The age and the character of the property were very unusual and impressive
Had to pay for parking
Bathroom needs some TLC … grouting around bottom of bath was missing in places and dirty in others.
Clean , beautiful and staff were attentive
Nothing
The building and location are absolutely stunning and well kept. The lighting, decor and scent of the main hotel area made it very cosy and atmospheric. The garden restaurant was pretty and relaxing. All staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast selection was great
The themed bedroom was very unique and quaint. Again the decor and detail was fantastic. There are some minor improvements that could be made to make it “luxury” and worth the price. Such as the shower drain had a strange smell, the cold tap in the bath didn’t work, the tv had a broken frame and was very old. Could do with some bathing products not just shower gel.
Beautiful room, comfortable bed. Food was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel itself was stunning with lovely grounds to walk around. Worth the cost of the night.
Happy with everything
Wonderful stay, gorgeous building.
Charging £12 per night for parking was unexpected. Since pretty much the only way to get to the hotel is by car, and there's plenty of space, parking should really be free for hotel guests.
We had our honeymoon here 2 years ago and wanted to celebrate the occasion.
Actually not having to pay for carpark for guests . Guests to be given personal touch by being shown to their room rather then just given verbal directions. This would make a tremendous difference in feeling welcome to stay .
the room was very well presented, clean and had everything needed to make it a pleasant stay. breakfast was excellent with lots of choice for a full cooked breakfast, cereals and fruit. the dinner menu was not to our taste although the food on the dinner menu did look very nice. As my wife is a chef we understand that the menu reflects how busy the kitchen is with the about of guests & events
I cannot think of anything I did not like about the hotel, however the only minor negative comment is the fact that the car parking charges are separate. we understand that this is a coventry council decision but if the hotel prices were slightly higher to incorporate the car parking charges from a marketing point of view as it almost feels like a hidden extra
Beautiful hotel with fantastic staff. Really nice tasty food and good wine list.
Parking isn't very close to the hotel and is a bit pricey.
Always as loved staying at Coombe Abbey then going to that place since I was a child loved the rooms and it’s location and lovely walks around the woods in the
Our hotel room was right next to a Big tent holding a wedding or some party and the Music was so loud that you couldn’t hear yourself thinking or hear the TV in the room it wasn’t till about midnight that they told us it was still going on till the early hours and then they decided to moved us to another room. So if you get a room next to the big tent on a Friday or Saturday, ask at the desk if there’s going to be any music later tonight if so, you need to move.
Our stay was to celebrate my mum's 90th birthday. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and kind. Before our stay I requested a ground floor room for my parents and both our rooms were on the ground floor just off reception, which was perfect. Added to this we had our own private bit of garden. Our celebration was made even more special as my mum had a happy birthday banner on her room door and there was a balloon in the room. These were touches that were not expected but were really thoughtful and really made a difference. We ate in the restaurant, the food was lovely and the staff equally lovely. I can't thank the hotel enough. We will definitely be returning for another stay.
Amazing location, and Beautiful hotel, afternoon food was amazing would highly recommend trying the food, I had the steak and was one of if not the best steaks I've had ever, some very nice walks around the grounds and by the fishing lake
The only issue I had was with breakfast the first morning it was cold and didnt enjoy it at all (4 others said the same too) but on the sunday it was fine and warm
all went well
The property and grounds are striking, and the history of the property makes it intriguing.
After leaving the reception area, it became apparent that the property is very tired. The carpets are worn, the plug sockets in the room are some small non-standard type, which I assume are an old standard which I’ve never seen in my 45 years. There was only a bath with a hand-held shower and no screen, making it difficult not to spray water. The huge shutters on the window were damaged. The toilet was down a set of side stairs.
We visited for our 29th Wedding Anniversary and were met with an Anniversary banner and a balloon in our room! The room was beautiful, large and the bed was the comfiest we've ever slept on. Staff were attentive and friendly. The grounds are exceptional, we felt we had slipped into another time period for our weekend away and it was just perfect. The only niggle (and it's a small one) was that there was only one very small bar with little seating - we chose to sit outside as the weather was so nice, but it was difficult to navigate easily back to the bar without a long walk.
Enjoyed being looked after by all the staff who work there. Friendly and helpful.
The floor in the bar and restaurant needed a good clean. The 3 nights we were there the floor didn't look like it had been touched, and the tables in the bar weren't cleaned after being cleared.
This was our third stay at Coombe Abbey and we weren’t disappointed. As always the place was full of character , each time we stay we make a new discovery ! This time it was Coombe Abbey punts. Anthony was full of knowledge about the abbey and the wildlife in the area. He truly has a passion for the history of the building and he is happy to spend time with you and share his experiences and stories about the abbey. The ambiance of his punting launch site under the abbey feels truly magical. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and Anthony made our stay even more special by playing his piano and singing to us to make our celebration complete. The rooms we have stayed in have all been very clean and comfortable . The breakfast buffet is pleasant and the food well cooked. The only thing that puzzles me is why they serve yogurt imported from France when you could support British farmers. We will definitely be back next year.
Lovely hotel, grounds, accommodation, and initially impressed by their standards; however, that soon changed. The medieval banquet food was nice but not at all authentic, except for the pottage and no mead, so very disappointed. Entertainment was first class. Now the main gripe - I accidentally left my phone in my room and checked out at 10 am on a Saturday. It took them over 3 days for them to inform me, but it was only me that was trying to contact them; they made no effort in 3 days of finding my phone despite all of my contact details inside the phone case, credit and ID cards not to mention my details on their system for the occupant of my room. There is no excuse for taking so long - they said they were busy, which is fair enough, but 3 days is a joke as it only takes 5 mins to call. Then no mention of any apology when I collected it - I won't be returning and sadly can't recommend this place at all.
Been here a few times and met Ola the first time. Exceptional attentive smiley service but not intrusive. Absolutely top notch had a lovely time. Will always visit again. Food is always made with care and table laid out clean and very tidy.
Hotel is very nice, what you would expect from an historic building, all the staff attentive, the grounds around the hotel are so nice, however after a very nice historic tour of the grounds we settled for the restaurant food which was a total let down, the burger was as dry as the Gobi desert, the fish and chips were ok, but for the cost we expected far more, when we complained to the staff they offered a free desert but didn’t carry it through unfortunately, we paid the bill and just muttered away, would we stay there again, for sure, would we eat there again, absolutely not for that amount of money
The view from the lake room was brilliant stunning views
No shower in our room, but a big bath instead
Very helpful Staff and Beautiful surroundings
Rooms very dark with very little light no phone signal and even Satellite Navigation had issues in that area
Wonderful stay at this atmospheric hotel - we booked last minute for our wedding anniversary and added to the booking info that it was our anniversary, and even with short notice the staff made it so special! We had some anniversary decorations ready in our room which was such a lovely suprise. Room was spotlessly clean and so comfortable. At dinner we had a lovely romantic table ready for us and even a special anniversary dessert brought out, made it such a special occasion for us (all the food was excellent too). Next morning ordered breakfast to our room - one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had! Lovely stay and hope to come again!
The only downsides were the room was quite warm (glad we didnt come during the heatwave) though we did have a fan which helped. Also shower temperature not adjustable and seemed to only run very warm. More seating outside by the outdoor bar would also have been nice but these are all small things from an otherwise wonderful stay!
Absolutely wonderful stay with my husband. The hotel just oozes character and I am so disappointed that we weren't staying longer. There are so many lovely little nooks and crannies to sit in and read or have a coffee and people watch. If it's sunny the grounds of the hotel are a delight with plenty of places to sit and relax. The room was also full of character. We ate in the Garden Restaurant and had a very enjoyable meal. Breakfast the next day was also lovely. However, the icing on the cake was Abbey punts. This elevated the weekend from a stay in a lovely hotel to a fabulous experience that was one of the best days we have had in a long time. We had the date night package which was excellent value and I really couldn't give it enough stars. Anthony knows a lot about the history of the hotel which made it really interesting. He is also a genuinely wonderful person, very artistic and a great piano player and singer. He serenaded us in his special room. I thought it might feel a little awkward but it was all very natural and so romantic. Then we were punted around the Abbey while Anthony pointed out the history, wildlife and anything else of interest. He is great company. Nothing else to say other than this will stick in both our memories forever and we came away with huge smiles. Thank you to all the lovely hotel staff who wer unfailingly polite and helpful, and also to the man himself, Anthony.

The rooms were gross. I paid for the deluxe room and even then, the room was not cleaned properly. Carpet was gross, spiders, dusty

We came to visit Coombe Abbey for the punts boat ride. All I can say is, it was absolutely magical! From start to finish, we had the best time and it’s a memory we will never forget all thanks to Anthony ! Thank you so so much for making my birthday one to remember.
Loved the room and hotel facilities. Dinner was amazing as always.
A wonderful hotel in a great location. Very nice staff and great value for money. Overall I would rate this as top notch if there was aircon in the rooms. Comfort level was otherwise excellent and I will stay again in the near future.

Lovely historic building set in a beautiful country park. Nice bar and restaurant with varied spaces to sit. Evening choice of food was good and breakfast was excellent
Room was smaller than expected for a standard double room based on images shown on website. Although a full double bed there was little space around it so felt cramped & claustrophobic.
The service was excellent in the restaurant and bar.
During the warm period the room was very hot as the fan wasn’t keeping the temperature down.
It’s an amazingly historical place with real atmosphere.
The property rooms are very tired and it is all in need of refurbishment, obviously not the actual reception areas where it is medieval but all carpets and curtains in the hallways are very worn almost in all places. The lift smells musty and is very dusty and definitely needs updating! We weren’t sure if it would make it! On the upside the staff were excellent and the lovely Indian gentleman who was on reception when we arrived could not have done more for us, so a big thank you to him and I’m sorry I can’t remember your name 😕
Beautiful surroundings but I felt the hotel needs some TLC
Again the hotel needs updating
Belle demeure historique, espaces extérieurs superbes, situation pratique au calme mais près de Coventry
Assez vieillot, pas de climatisation dans les chambres.
The hotel was very nice
The room where we had the reception was far too hot
Nice setting and lovely landscape. The breakfast was nice and staff very attentive.
The room was very dark and outdated . Had a very haunted feel about it. Really needs modernising as could not charge mobile phones near bed.
Room was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable, with a good choice of pillows. However, we did get an upgrade from a luxury room to a grand feature room. The view was amazing as the room overlooked the lake and gardens. Breakfast was very good with a selection of cooked food and continental breakfast and it was served in a very large conservatory with very pleasant surroundings. The staff were all very helpful and polite. When we asked for a fan for our room, a staff member brought it to the room and told me she searched for it for us. The gardens are extensive and there are plenty of walks you can do around the 500 acre estate. The standard of decor in the hallways and around the hotel is excellent.
We did not use the restaurant for dinner as we felt the menu was limited. Our bedroom only had a bath and we would have liked a shower. TV was very basic for a luxury room, with only digital or analogue channels to choose from. Whilst we appreciated the ceilings in our room were very high, you could see strands of dust hanging from some areas. Also, we had no fridge in the room. This was slightly frustrating, as I have an intolerance to dairy, so brought my own Oat milk, but had no where to keep it chilled.
Unusual historic building with antique furniture and lots of atmosphere. It is set in a large park which is used by the public. The hotel garden is magnificent. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. We had a good dinner on a Sunday evening. Large selection of dishes for breakfast. Highly recommended.
I ate at the garden restaurant, I was quite disappointed as I found a hair within my fish and chips as to which put me off my meal
It’s looks and feel
The bed was slightly not good in room 204. Split in the middle and awkward.
3rd visit but 2 wedding on so v v v noisy.not enough staff on but polite kind professional when available.
Not warned about weddings when booking
The bar staff does not have control over the orders. Despite having 4 staff hanging around, and very few customers, they are totally lost and not very effective. Incomplete orders, very delayed. A lot of "yes sir", but poor service.
Lovely place, clean and tidy, spacious, relaxing environment, extra thank you to Macaulay and Kayin, polite professional, friendly, served us drinks all afternoon with a smile great lads
The room was lovely very spacious, as was the bathroom. Also was lovely and quiet, slept well.
There was nothing to dislike!
The location, history, the food
Billing incorrect - overcharged and unable to process refund! Told to wait until Monday. Unheard of! The restaurant food was excellent, sadly one of the servers seemed clueless and tried to serve our meals to other tables and tried to serve other tables meals to ours. Small things to many but as we are returning customers, we found this to be little niggles that if sorted out quickly would really help.
Room
Rooms with a fridge to keep cold drinks, i drink water a lot and would have taken my bottle and stored it.
Grounds were nice for a little walks
Quite dark, could do with a little more lighting inside
Location was lovely.
Room was very warm, air conditioning didn’t make any difference, needs an over haul. Open window that help a little.
Wonderful afternoon tea. Thank you Ruby for making it so special
the outside grounds
Having to pay for parking
Nice landscaped gardens
The rooms were too dark and badly need updating. The two rooms I booked were dark, dingy and not modern. So plugging in usb sticks etc was not easy and there was limited storage space in bathroom and room to put things.
We had a lovely meal in the evening.
Breakfast was ok. The fried egg had been stood too long and was therefore rubbery. Also the fruit near the yogurts needed some form of covering as with the doors to the conservatory open due to the hot summer weather it attracted insects
Spannendes Hotel.
The different things to see around every corner. The wonderful building and pleasant staff.
The carpets and rooms are a little worn and require replacing in places.
Awesome stay at this lovely Hotel. The staff were always professional and helpful. The food was great as was the room (71) I will stay again when the opportunity arises. Thank you all for making the stay enjoyable.
