Provider-sourced guest reviews.
food good, staff excellent. what lets it down is poor decoration, abysmal window blind in our room, poor condition of carpets. lots of stairs to negotiate not mentioned on the web site.
see above
The room was a good size and v clean The bed was v big and v comfortable.
It's a bit tired in places and it would be nice to fresh milk and tissues in the room
Loved that there is a single room at a single room price.
Fantastic location in centre with secure car parking
Historical building
Staff brilliant. Food excellent including breakfast. Location ideal
Rm 2 was extremely noisy from road outside until 11pm then again at 6am. They were able to move us next day to Rm 4 much quieter and we slept well. Do think preservative choices in morning could include blackcurrant and raspberry, only strawberry and marmalade available.
Lovely staff and good location, good private guest parking.
The guest areas and rooms were very tired and in need of some TLC. We also had road works outside our room untill very late on our first night
The room and bathroom was quite big and the bed was huge and comfortable. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, cooked well and the service was very good.
The rooms could do with a little bit of TLC, e.g. chipped paint on walls and the blind was broken. However, this didn't impact on our stay at all.
Clean, comfortable and lovely staff!
Parking was a issue, tight access and limited spaces
Location, exceptionally friendly staff

Breakfast and location where great and the staff were very helpful and attentive especially Wayne.
Rooms could do with a makeover and beds and pillows were too firm for our liking. Very noisy outside some of the bedrooms, some people in our group had very little sleep.
Really friendly staff. Property is a little tired, but it is a very old place, quaint. Excellent value as a budget Property
Super vriendelijk personeel!
Niks eigenlijk, beetje veel trappen.
Central location and good if you want to get out and about in Somerset. Staff very friendly, food was good. I've only stay for 1 night but it was a pleasant experience and would definitely go back.
Fantastic grade 2 building xx Brilliant staff Vicky and Andrea always helped me at breakfast x Brett the chef is so talented x x food is amazing
Nothing
A very well run hotel with friendly efficient staff. A good size room recently redecorated with a refurbished bathroom.
Given that the bedroom had been redecorated, we were surprised by the window housed behind dirty net curtains. Both the window itself and the secondary double glazing were filthy and hard to open without getting jammed. The sash window itself had a broken pane and needs repainting and, more likely, replacing because it has rotted in parts.
Lovely building and great location
Road noise
The age and presentation
The staff at the George went above and beyond for our family. The housekeeping was exceptional especially Izzie, she was amazing, attentive and caring. The wait staff at the restaurant made us feel so welcome. Vikki always had our table waiting for us and was a lovely kind person. Breakfast was delicious.
We were there during the heat wave and this hotel was unbelievable hot. The hotel needs AC installed
The staff were excellent, they did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The room we were given after I asked to be moved was fabulous (it had a bath!!!) Izzy, our cleaner, was very fastidious and thorough with her cleaning. She left plenty of top-up tea/coffee items and delicious biscuits every day. The breakfast was always made fresh, and to order, our waitresses Andrea and Lauren (mother & daughter) welcomed everyone in a friendly manner. Nothing was too much for them. Vicky was the person who sorted out our room. She was aware of how unhappy I was with our first room, and considering we had a further 3 nights stay, she gave us a much plusher room. The hotel itself is very old, there are a lot of stairs to climb, to get to the rooms, being in our 60's was not an issue. Welbehaved Dogs are very welcome to stay at the hotel. Although the hotel has 28 rooms, there is only enough for 12 cars in their carpark, we arrived late so we were able to park from 6pm till 9am in a pay & display carpark, then once visitors left the hotel, we were able to leave our car until we left 3 days later. Frome has a lot to offer, plenty of walks, fabulous restaurants and eateries, and lots of quirky shops!
The only thing that I was unhappy about was the room we were given when we arrived. It faced the main Rd, the windows didn't shut properly (very old sashed windows), so the noise of traffic throughout the night was unbelievable. The beds were very firm, I had to sleep on top of the quilt to give me some softness!
Booked as four star hotel. Definitely not, mould on bathroom ceiling, dust on furniture. Ridiculous hot, windows unable to open and they were wet in the morning. When advised staff the next day they said they are three star!
Dirty and in need of renovation. They have done lower floors
Great location, staff very friendly and helpful
Evening food menu limited
Good location with helpful staff . There was somewhere undercover & locked for our bicycles
Fantastic little hotel in.Frome. The staff were absolutely delightful!
Ik had een aangename hoekkamer. Ontbijt was ook meer dan oké. Veel verschillende mogelijkheden, zoals full English breakfast en vegetarische en vegan opties.
ALL GOOD

Loved the old building and the maze like corridors! Plenty of character ☺️ Evening meal was fab and the breakfast choice was amazing and my Eggs Benedict tasted gorgeous. Room was absolutely lovely with touches like good quality tea bags and Taylor’s coffee bags, along with Borders biscuits! Ample lovely toiletries too.
One thing I never liked, was the lack of parking..although it can’t be helped and we parked on the short stay after 6pm, so only had to pay via the app from 8am
friendly staff, good food, comfy bed. Car parking
new double-glazed windows would help to keep noise of extractor fans during opening hours when you are in bedroom.
Breakfast was good, important to have wifi, and staff very helpful with parking, also very easy place to hotdesk from
It was a bit tricky gettijng into the car park, maybe have some written instructions on how to get there and where padlock is etc?
Friendly staff
Right on the highstreet
No users after 11 & we wrre at a wedding 4 miles away
Friendly staff. Service was excellent . Extras, such as water and biscuits every day in rooms.
Not suitable for people with mobility issues, as lots of stairs to rooms.
Nice pub & staff. Good garage.
Room dated, damp, needed decoration,(Room 2) windows difficult. Our room was on the main street. Extremely noisy. Deliveries at 11pm & 2am, in between cars racing by, & lots of noise! We did not sleep. Bathroom awful. Not 4 star, lucky 2 star.
I had a spacious single, quiet room at the back of the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. All as expected, and it was a good stay
My friends room was a little small and tired. Curtain hanging off etc, that could do with being fixed.
The Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good. Very well run Pub.
Our bedroom and the hallways were very much in need of a lick of paint and better carpets.
Great location with car parking in the center, the staff was very friendly, however it’s quite old facility, but it’s worthy for the money.
Old facility
Great location, most of the team were very friendly
Saturday morning breakfast was poor, long waits, rude staff and poor food. Sunday however was the complete opposite. The carpark is very strange.
Venue, room, food and staff were all first class. Our fourth stay and we will be back. Excellent value and all the staff are so friendly and helpful
Nothing at all - love the place
Disgusting and filthy, more like a 1 star. General Manager has no people skills, in fact asked us to leave when I complained about our disgusting rooms, then came back and apologised. Ruined what should have been a fantastic weekend.
Filthy dirty disgusting and run down. Awful breakfast.
Excellent stay all staff very helpful and accommodating nothing
Nothing
Great location in town centre. Interesting old building which has seen some historical events. Decent breakfast.
Creaky floors, mediocre single bed, town noise through window.
Location
It was lovely pub/restaurant
The entrance to the upstairs door from the bar .(accident waiting to happen for me)😂😂their car park was to tight for a big car, much easier to go up to the short stay car park.
A fab location, right in the centre of town. Good to have parking
Room was small and very warm, even with the fan provided
The room was very large and the staff were wonderful.
The room was very dated. Stained ceilings and walls, very large cobwebs all around the window frame. The carpet needs changing, full of stains.
Great location with secure free parking Fantastic breakfast. Freshly cooked - not buffet. Lovely friendly and happy staff.
Too many stairs and corridors Very dated and in need of an upgrade We must have had the smallest bathroom ever - not even space to put a toothbrush.
Centrally located
Unfortunately the kitchen outlet from the extraction fan was located just outside the bathroom/bedroom window, on the second floor; this meant the room was filled with cooking odours/fumes. This was rather unpleasant; and present throughout our stay, despite the fact we immediately closed all the windows. We stayed in a family room - one double, two single beds.
Great Hotel with amazing staff, very friendly and welcoming . Room was a good size and breakfast was fantastic. Highly recommend
Staff were amazing, the room lovely. Quirky (like most of Frome. Good outstanding. We chose to eat an evening meal and it was absolutely fantastic.
Sadly, Frome centre is LOUD at night. Nothing to do with the George, just some very excitable people outside
Great location to Longleat. Nice little town to explore
N-A
Not a lot
The room was very dated , needs tlc and the outside noises made it impossible to sleep
The location was good, the entertainment in the bar was excellent, the staff were friendly and the food was good.
It was a little dated but very clean and the pillows were very hard.
Staff were polite and on the ball
Breakfast on last morning was probably half the size of previous days. And we were nowhere near the last people down
All staff were excellent...... my room was spotlessly clean and was perfect for my short stay......... breakfast was also excellent especially the tea with the large cups!!!!! (A special 'thank you' to Matthew!!!! x)
I am aware that 'lifts' will never be installed. However having to walk up the stairs (especially with bags and a case etc, etc) was particularly difficult as I suffer from Osteoporosis.
great place to stay for a night in Frome; easy access to surrounding areas; safe off street parking; friendly staff; comfortable beds; easy to walk into Frome; good bar/restaurant downstairs
nothing
Look friendly staff. Central in Frome. Drag act was a bonus. Free parking too.
Tv connection in room a bit spotty.
Easy check in, fantastic location, nicely decorated bedroom with toiletries, tasty breakfast and super friendly and helpful staff. I’d book again.
Only slight niggle was the limp fan in the room which was ineffective in this hot weather.
Great location

Perfect location Staff brilliant Breakfast and meal
Room did not resemble photo on website No bedside lamps (asked staff and we were given one for 2nd night) Bathroom had lots of damp Parking is very limited had to use pay and display which although wasn't expensive we'd booked hotel because of room Photo and free parking
Location, staff, breakfast.
Top floor sloping ceiling, veluxe windows, too many stairs for us (50).
Staff were so friendly and helpful.
The fan in the room was to small for the hot weather
Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly. Downstairs pub nicely refurbished.
Room was very tired and not like the photos on their website. Beds were old and lumpy. Furniture very dated and worn out.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely old building. Location in the middle of lovely old town.
Due to the old building a lot of stairs, not a problem for us but perhaps for some people.
perfect place to stay in frome, good food, good staff, rooms very clean, nice beds, all good A+
The location, cleanliness and friendly, accommodating staff
A few bits of chipped paintwork indicate that the property would benefit from some refurbishment
Freindly welcoming and helpful staff. Food of excellent standard. On site parking.
Nothing comes to mind.
Friendly welcome, fab pub!Lovely comfortable room. Already booked our next stay!
loved everything, staff were super helpful and friendly, breakfast was excellent, rooms were clean. loved everything about the George.
there was nothing we didnt like
The location for Longleat was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was delicious good variety of food.
The first night which was a Saturday and it was busy in the hotel and with lots of people coming and going from the rooms with big heavy fire doors there was lots of banging until late into the night and also you could hear every time someone flushed the toilet and ran the tap.
Very central. Wonderful staff when were so attentive to me and my Labrador. Thoughtful touches like a fan in the room for the hot weather.
Can’t think of anything
All the staff were very friendly and excellent at their jobs went over and beyond

Bedroom a disgrace, food good, the two ladies doing breakfast very nice and pleasant, the manager, least said the better, needs training in customer care and service.
Everything, except breakfast and service from the two ladies on duty.
Great food, staff and bedroom. Lovely products and immaculately clean.
Location
Wall paper hanging off the wall in room number 28 Got to breakfast at 9.25 then told by the waitress at 9.35 that kitchen closed. Even though table behind us had just received theirs. Got offered eggs and toast 2 eggs and 1 bit of toast. Had to go to subway across the road to get breakfast
The staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome . The room was smaller than I expected but it was very clean and the bathroom was great. The food was exceptional. I ate in the bar in the evenings and the choice was great and the food was lovely.
I had read about the stairs and luckily I was only on the first floor. The parking is awkward and limited so I chose to park in the public car park 2 mins away. There is quite a lot of noise from the other rooms and doors slamming which is unavoidable. Unfortunately I was woken by someone trying to get into their room at 11.30 pm. When he was unsuccessful he fell asleep on the landing outside my room. I could hear him snoring! I didn't want to open the door as I was on my own and felt quite vulnerable, I tried to call the hotel number but there's no out of hours support. He slept better than I did !
I think the staff were very accommodating and funny. The Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice
The lack of WiFi in the room
Bed was very comfortable, room was very clean too
Food. Having to pay at the bar for each course as you go.
Room was spacious, bed very comfortable & bathroom large and clean. Service and breakfast good and staff frienfly and helpful.
Room & furnishings need a genereral uplifting and upgradong.
Excellent location in the centre of town, 5 minute drive from the wedding venue. Good parking facilities, very safe. Breakfast was excellent
Room was a bit dated and needed a lick of paint as all the walls had cracked paint peeling off. Fine for me tbh but some might not like this. Bed also rolled across the room when you sat in it due to sloping floor
Great location and really helpful, friendly staff.
Good service, good comfortable bar, very central.
Firstly, the staff were amazing!. Wayne, Matteo and all the staff could not have been more helpful. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was great too with generous supply of shampoos, gels etc. Breakfast was excellent too and the location made for a great stay.
we were on a main road and understandably there was a small amount of road noise
Excellent breakfast friendly staff
Fantastic location. Not noisy at all to be staying above a pub and good food served in the evening as well as a good breakfast included.
While there is parking, there is not enough for all guests. When the parking is full, there is a laid car park close by which is free between 1800-0900. This is not so bad. However, I did specifically search hotels with car parks on booking.com when I came across this accommodation.
Olde worlde feeling. People. Breakfast. Access to shops. Beer
Despite asking to be given a quiet room away away from the main road, we were given on on the main road and the windows wouldn’t close, so it was very noisy
Right in the town staff always great
Good location.
No hair dryer in the room. No iron/ironing board. No balcony all of which was listed and misleading in the booking details. Grubby shower curtain clearly not changed between occupants.
Very central in Frome.Excellent breakfast
Nothing
Would have liked to be able to change things that I didn't like instead of them just take ing things out.
Wasn't told car parking was first come first served ,we purposely booked this hotel as free parking was advertised.
Breakfast medium. Location excellent but arrived 1st Sunday of month and was not warned of monthly market and road closures. Difficulty accessing hotel.Staff great ,very helpful. Had two meals which were lovely and service was good
Not warned about stairs. No rooms on ground floor. We were in room 13. Lots of stairs. Age 78 and 81 with heart condition!!!
Excellent service
Uncomgy bed.
Staff were lovely, breakfast was great. Central to everything.
Rooms quite tiered, very hot and the fan we had was very small and didn't really meet the need.
Breakfast excellent, location lovely! All in all a perfect stay all round ✨️ 😊
Well located. Very helpful staff. On-site car park.
Stairs to the upper floors were a bit challenging.
Great value for money comfortable lovely breakfast having a fan in the bedroom was a nice touch great value drinks and food
slightly thicker curtains would be nice that's it
Friendly staff
Wallpaper was coming away from the wall next to the single bed
The bar/dining area was well laid out and had a nice buzz to it. There was Sports Tv on, Ladies Golf, which matched the hot and sunny mood. I had a thai calamari starter (chilli beef croquettes being off ) and then the ham and eggs.A large menu with lots of alternatives. A pint of their cask conditioned blond beer, which I think was called Ozzie, went down very well. I might have named it Sierra Nevada, but with fewer peaks and troughs taste wise... but seriously an outstanding pint !! The staff, particularly the barmaid and the girl serving dinner, deserve a special mention. Breakfast good.
The car park ( and I was grateful for the parking space ) took time to find, access, then park. The room (9, up in the roof ) was spacious and comfortable (quite warm too...but then everything is warm at the moment).I could have done with a Sherpa to take me and the bags up... but we made it.
Comfy bed. Nice breakfast
No lift.
